      Vision and dental are health care needs!! They should be with regular Medicare, then if you have a supplement, not Advantage (which sucks), they would be covered. We need to advocate for Medicare to cover dental and vision as health care needs.

      @@carolinemarie44 I switched to baking soda tooth paste years ago and love it! Unfortunately, I have terrible teeth... I think it is hereditary. Baking soda goes a great way to balance your PH in your body and make it more alkaline vs acidic. when your body is acidic you can't fight diseases.
      I used to get Bronchitis all the time. When I start to get sick or run down, I put a little baking soda in water and drink a few glasses a day or during the week.
      If you want to try something fun, go to the drug store and get the PH strips. You can test the Ph levels in your mouth after drinking coffee or wine, vs eating food that help your PH balance like cantaloupe or cucumbers or celery. You can do the same with water and baking soda. Drink coffee - test our Ph and it will be bright yellow... very acidic. Drink the baking soda water or eat a cucumber and test again; the strip will be bright blue - more alkaline!
      There are books on having a more PH-balanced diet, but honestly, I know I can't stick to it 100%. I still love my wine, cheese, meats, and breads. But I suppose everything in moderation! 😀

My mom is on the plan and is currently with my sister in FL. It covers her nationwide and covers all her medications - she is on about a dozen. NOTE: There are also many MAPD plans (Medicare Advantage with Prescription Drug) that are PPO plans for $0 premium per month. That is precisely the reason people should avoid Medicare so-called advantage plans like the plague. You are giving up your traditional Medicare and going back into for-profit insurance companies. It’s very difficult to get back on traditional Medicare. If you go straight into a Medicare (dis)Advantage plan, you are surrendering your only chance to be on a supplemental without discrimination for pre-existing conditions. Yes, there’s that glaring exception on traditional Medicare enrollment that requires people getting off disadvantage plans to go through underwriting and hope there’s an affordable plan that will take you with all your healthcare needs. Don’t fall for the cheap and inadequate vision, hearing, dental come-on plans. Look at the restrictions such as where you might go if you get a cancer diagnosis, how you have to appeal the denials, does the plan really have as many providers and specialists as they claim, what happens if you are away from home and outside of your plans geographical limitations. Also, it’s critical to remember that Medicare (dis)Advantage plans are only set for one year. They can and do raise deductibles, eliminate covered conditions or add-ons, lose providers all year long, and various other changes that you are locked into unless you change plans again. Traditional Medicare plans are far more static and stable. You can use it anywhere in the US and all of the territories. Traditional Medicare plans are administered by the government with a rock bottom overhead/admin of only 3-7% with everything else going to patient care. There is legislation, stalled in the House, that would deny the huge insurance monopolies the use of the word Medicare for their for-profit plans. You have actually given up Medicare if you are persuaded or deceived into shifting to a disadvantage plan.

All the other areas you mentioned I already knew are covered. BUT the items that older Americans really need are NOT covered: refractions, eyeglasses (not regarding cataracts), hearing aids, dental, annual medical checkups. How many elderly people do you know that their teeth are rotting and need filled cavities or their teeth are falling out and then they need dentures? How many elderly people need stronger and stronger glasses? How many elderly people do you know who are losing their hearing and need hearing aids (NOT just a test for it)? And how many elderly people would just like to have an annual checkup? It's great that Medicare covers so many things, and YES if you're super sick or need surgery....I'm not knocking that. But what if you're relatively healthy. If you are healthy, all your medical bills are through the roof for all those basic things that Medicare does NOT cover. End of rant.

      @CalvinMorris-cf8jk So many people ask this question. I don't know if my answer will satisfy you, but dental and medical insurance have always been two separate categories of coverage. They were never combined. Major medical insurance, whether through your Employer when you are working or if you have an individual policy, does not cover dental expenses,. Never has. Employers often buy and/or offer this extra benefit through a dental insurance plan, and people can buy individual dental plans. If you are on Medicare, you can take a look at a Medicare Advantage plan with Dental benefits. While this is not the only reason to look at a Medicare Advantage plan, it certainly is a great perk! NOTE: If you are considering an Med Adv (MAPD) plan, I've done some videos on the the difference btwn Med Adv vs Med Supp and RX and another on how to find the BEST Med Adv plan.

      Yeah these plans DO NOT cover when someine needs full dentures. I find this appalling on Medicares part as your teeth being bad and in need of full dentures affects your heart health. I can only surmise Medicare does NOT care that you worked hard all your life paid into the system all that time and they still dont cover many major health issues as such as dental issues. And yet you have to pay a large amount per month for Medicare even after paying into the System all your entire life youre still paying....and oh lets NOT forget the additional expenses for a Part D policy yet you have to meet a large deductible first which goes up every year to even greater expenses and then if you do meet deductible well then in order for you to still NOT receive good help from the Part D plan you pay dearly for each month already then already finally meet the expensive yearly deductible well lets just throw you over into thus gigantic donut hole for the rest of the year so they can get by with still not paying real benefits out for you. I am not sure why so many people are saying Medicare doesn’t cover anything. Are you on original Medicare or in a Medicare Advantage program? I had cancer right after I went on Medicare in 2019. I have original Medicare and selected a Supplement G. I originally had three diagnostic procedures, a hysterectomy, multiple CTs, 5 weeks of daily radiation and four months of chemo the first time around. Two years after the first time I had a recurrence. This time I had six weeks of radiation, multiple CTs and an MRI, a very expensive test to determine if I had cancer in my blood, and ongoing infusions every three weeks. Throughout this ordeal, I have paid $0. If I had still been working, I would have had to pay for 20% of all these things IF they were approved by insurance. Medicare Advantage programs are run by the same insurance companies that handle corporate insurance. They can turn down whatever they want. I thank God every day I chose the right insurance or I would have thousands of dollars in bills.

And yes, if you were on your Employer group plan, you would most likely have a big deductible, coinsurance, and an annual maximum out of pocket in the thousands! (kind of similar to an MAPD plan.)

      I would say I had not paid my 240 deductible. So I ca understand why they would want that amount.
      Unfortunately, I don’t have the money to pay it outright so making payments to local hospital. But I’m not going to pay all rest of them.
      I have been on social security since 2008. And I have never gone to the hospital Not even once. Now there trying to stick me with almost $1000 or more.

    What about Hospice care? I have been on Hospice, but because I didn’t die in the timeframe allowed by Medicare & the Hospice group; they have dropped me & only gave me a 30 day notice to find a telemedicine doctor. I’m bedridden & extremely ill, in devastating pain, have no strength to handle this transition & don’t know what to do. I’m almost 71 & need help!! 😢 I don’t understand why Hospice is primarily for people with chronic COPD & or a disease such as cancer. They don’t seem to understand that chronic pain can also lead to death. So, in a very short time, I will have no care, no medication & no doctor! I suppose that is one sure way to make sure that I die!! It’s really a shame. The doctors I had been seeing advised me to get on Hospice, & now that they dropped me; they refuse to take me back as their patient. I have serious issues with my insides, but the doctors said I am too weak & in too much pain to endure the tests. My neck, shoulders & back & now my extremities are in devastating pain. I have chronic Hypertension, chronic arthritis, & breathing problems. I too was diagnosed with COPD, but even being on Oxygen, when I try to get to the bathroom, which is only about 4-5 feet from my bed & to the lavatory, by the time I get back to bed, I’m gasping for breath, which causes a panic attack & causes my blood pressure to go up extremely high! I also fell many times making the pain even worse. I really need help!! I don’t understand why people like myself can’t get the help we need!! I only have a short time left on Hospice! Please let me know if you have any suggestions or advice that can help me in my current situation. I would really appreciate any help!!

Even when they started embracing the concept of Wellness and Prevention, the answer is to 'take this pill' to prevent the condition. Drugs seem to be the answer for most conditions and/or to prevent them. Glasses how many elderly do you know that don’t need glasses not very many. Dental can be very expensive when you go to a dentist and have a cavity you’re shelling out hundreds of dollars, there are many things that Medicare will not cover that have been needed to be covered for many many years. I don’t understand then you’ve got people that are abusing the system and getting things covered that elderly would love to have covered. Social Security checks are not helping people pay for housing and utilities and insurance. People on Medicare are struggling daily, just to pay their bills. Let alone have to pay all these extra charges. Something is wrong with the system. It’s up to the government and obviously they don’t care.

      @gloria7997 It is rather amazing how few plans cover this. It is sometimes available on Medicare Advantage plans, but it seems to me that it is a hard benefit to find. I did get some insight from my Aetna rep regarding the one plan they offer that offers this. The insurance company must hire services - reliable services - that will take good care of their clients; pick them up on time and take them to their Dr's appts. But they went through several agencies in our area that provided horrible services and it was just a nightmare for all involved. One should figure there must be a better way - maybe give seniors a Reimbursement so they can cab or uber or get someone to take them.

    Minor clarification. It is true that the cataract surgery that Medicare pays for will not remove your need for corrective external lenses (the surgery replaces your natural lenses with permanent artificial ones called intraocular lenses), but there are higher grades of intraocular lenses that can correct your vision to some extent if you have an amenable ocular condition. I had cataract surgery last year at age 66, paid a bit extra, and do not need external lenses for reading or for driving. I believe that Medicare will pay for the amount of the basic procedure (after paying your deductible) and the surgeon may agree to do the enhanced procedure if you pay the extra somehow. So one option to consider is to get the surgery done while you have the income to cover the enhanced procedure since, as they say, if you live long enough you will become a candidate for cataract surgery.
    As to the rest of it, every little bit helps I suppose, but like most government programs it helps a few very well and many not too much. Take care of yourself.

    I’m on Medicare because I’m disabled. Age 62. I pay $167 for base Medicare A&B, $375 for part G supplement, and $75 for drug coverage. This is per month. On disability. After working almost 40 years. I had Obamacare the two years before and I’m still paying off $35000 in copays and deductibles from this. My Obamacare premium was $1000 per month. I’d really like physical therapy massage. I have a bone disorder and need my joints manipulated to keep them from fusing together.

      @cbhealthinsurance3621  15 днів тому

      @slc1161 I'm sorry you have so many bills from the Obamacare plan; these plans were designed to have a True Out Of Pocket maximum (TROOP), which has gone up over the years. In 2014 these were around $6k for a Silver plan.; today might be closer to $8500/yr. So I'm wondering how the $35k came to be in just 2 years. Where you out of network? Or something wasn't approved?
      The good news is that WHEN you turn 65, you will have a 2nd OEP (Open Enrollment) when you can buy a supplement GI (guaranteed issue) and the price will be WAY LESS.
      In the interim.... between now at age 62 to three years from now when you turn 65, if you can't swing the premium for the supplement, you could look at MAPD. You can do this during the annual open enrollment Oct 15th-Dec 7th.
      Again, when you turn 65, you can buy a med supp GI regardless of your health.
      So food for thought.

    • @cbhealthinsurance3621
      @cbhealthinsurance3621  25 днів тому

      @wendyf8262 Right! Hearing aids are not covered by Original Medicare.
      Many of the Medicare Advantage plans offer some coverage for hearing aids, but it does vary by plan. Having coverage under a plan does not mean the hearing aids are free. The 'better plans' have a copayment per hearing aid, it can be as much as $500-600. Other plans may only give a discount like you got.
      Keep in mind a pair of hearing aids can run $5-6k. So while it might seem high, paying only $2k is a huge discount. Which means your discount could be 60% or more. That is significant.
      I don't know which you have - Original Medicare or a Medicare Advantage plan.
      When my Dad was alive he paid over $5k for his hearing aids; no discount. My parents were on a tight budget and had to set up a payment plan.
      Medicare should really look at offering more discounts or benefits, especially to lower income people who might not qualify for Medicaid.

I ordered the glasses in December 2023. The glasses were delivered to my doctor in January 2024. I personally tried acupuncture decades ago to help with my immunity; unfortunately it didn't help me, but I found other things that did. I know many people have said wonderful things about the benefits of acupuncture. As far as getting more sessions, I wonder if this is like PT. Medicare will pay for physical therapy for a limited number of sessions. The goal is for you to get better and stay better! If there needs to be more sessions, it can be approved. But generally speaking, if you are not getting better and progressing, Medicare typically won't continue to pay indefinitely for PT. I'm going to venture to guess this might be the case with accupuncture. You may want to ask your Accupuncutrist (is that a word?) They might know better if Medicare has ever extended or allowed more sessions.
