And also there is something that I read in the comments which pointed out an excellent good point even if it means doing a life action remake of Dragon it would not be more relevant to make a more faithful adaptation of the original book to instead of making a realistic copy and paste of the original film because all I know the 2010 Dragon film took a lot of liberty compared to the original book because for an anecdote in the book the vikings do not hunt the dragons on the contrary vikings give little dragons to children when they reach a certain age as a sort of rite of passage to adulthood and in the book the dragons speak it's not animals and the giants and in fact the thing is that the little dragons become bigger and bigger as the story progresses so it wouldn't be more interesting to adapt that to the cinema rather than doing a bit of copy and paste of the 2010 Dragon film in RTX like what Disney did with the Lion King
Exactly. The books are really good and the movies are not faithful adaptations of them. So having a closer re-adaptation of the Hiccup books is a better idea than this
“Wow! Dude, Berk Island!” “I love Dreamworks so much!” “Yo, Gobber! It’s Gobber! That’s Insane!” “Can it get better?” *insert celebrity name* “It can get better!”
I knew you would talk about this because I know you are a huge How to Train Your Dragon fan and your opinions on live action remakes so it makes sense you to make a video about this as for me I am hoping its fine but I am worried about it at best it could be mid were its like ya it is not as good as the original but you can have fun with it and let's hope it is not as bad as Dragons the nine realms.
It looks SO good! Everyone complaining about it I guarantee is going to watch it at some point lol. It’s the same director as the original trilogy and he cares too much about it to make it soulless.
I wonder if Dean Debois knowing that Dreamworks and Universal Pictures will do it with him or without, made him go for this live-action project so he could make sure it's not shit. How the live-action HTTYD will justify its existence other than Universal Pictures wanting money and promotion for their new theme park, we will see during the movie premiere. At the bare minimum, they will have to expand threads or add new ones so it is not a copy of the originals. We know they don't have to deal with the obligatory 90 min screentime otherwise the kids get bored. So I imagine with an extra 30 min screen time, they could have added new plot points, character development, or do the setup for Hidden World that didn't exist in the franchise till HTTYD3 happened. I don't want them to go for a nihilistic and illogical ending HTTYD3, to be honest. Live-action adaptations prove to be the toughest kind of movies to make. You don't adapt faithfully, close to originals and you get criticism. If you do that, people criticize it is a bland movie copy. You are damned if you do it, damned if you didn't We can have the creators change the source material but we can get a horrible result. LoTR fans send their regards.
I don’t understand when people don’t like it when live action Remakes Change the story but at the same time They don’t want a Copy and paste of the story just in live action You cant have both
@theforcedragon3781 How about the changes they made in Harley Quinn's origin from "Batman: The Animated Series" in "The Batman (2004)"? It follows similar guidelines but has a different take on the events.
stephen spielberg's ET with Drew Barrymore or Owen (Chris Pratt) and Blue (Raptor) from Jurrassic World more fit in for the comparison of the connection between real human and creature like Toothless and Hiccup. The only similarity with the Lion King is only the shot-for-shot we've seen so far in a one minute's teaser trailer. The Lion King wasnt really a live-action since they werent using real creatures at all, so its not apple to apple with HTTYD. And fans are like... Either this has to be as good as the OG or better, but judging only from the teaser, I think they're doing it towards right direction so i'll watch it for sure ❤
Open my first watch of the tralier i only noticed one or two minor changes in play out e.g. when hiccup frees toothless the eye is no longer opened behind tip of the wing
Jesus Christ why does everyone think that it's going to be another soulless cash grab just because it's a live-action remake. Not every live-action remake of an animated movie has been fucking bad. I am so goddamn tired of that fucking narrative
Creative incest is still disgusting even if there's less defects. All this money, time, and thought behind the scenes of a How To Train Your Dragon live action remake could've gone into a new movie like How To Train Your Dragon once was.
I mean minus Jungle Book I can't name a good live action remake. Lion King, Aladdin, Little Mermaid, Mulan, Beauty and the Beast? All horrid. Pete's Dragon was very mid I guess but I wouldn't call it good. The difference is Jungle Book really fixed the story issues the og movie had and made the whole thing incredibly unique. All the live action remakes have done since is utilize people's nostalgia to convince them to watch it. They could spend so much time making new content or, heck, they could remake HTTYD to fit the book's better, but instead it's just soulless cash grab after soulless cash grab.
I agree the live action How to Train Your Dragon is live action The Lion King all over again. That said, I'd sooner watch live action How to Train Your Dragon than live action Snow White.
If they wanted to be original they should base a new movies on the book series. Don't get me wrong I love the movies they are great, and they hold a special place in my heart. But the book were way better had better characters, better motives, better plot, better character development, and better dragons. People are burnt out on live action remakes I doubt its gonna go well.
Look I'm going to be trying to watch it For the fucking dragons Dats it We getting what these guys might look like if they were real I AM NOT MISSING THAT
Paint by numbers remake with the OG charm taken away. All I wanted was the dragons to look cool and it's VERY mixed. They missed up the Nadder, AND the Zippleback They also added the Rumblehorn for no fucking reason Don't forget. The Nine Realms was the last HTTYD media to come out before this, and before was Homecoming. Those 2, combined with this trailer, gives me ZERO faith in this film being good
Speaking of HTTYD media, remember this one HTTYD mini movie called "Book of Dragons"? I use to watch it once when I had that HTTYD DVD sampler from one of the General Mills cereal boxes and it was pretty good as I also enjoyed it just as much as I enjoyed the original HTTYD trilogy, and the tv show Riders/Defenders of Berk on CN too imo :)
Yeah, I am so not interested in seeing the HTTYD remake, or Lilo and Stitch or anything. They didn't need to exist and are just made for mainstream audiences that look down on animation as kids stuff. Sadly, these soulless live action remakes aren't going anywhere, but I'm just going to ignore them for the sake of my sanity.
I don't get why they changed the cgi for toothless :/ like, I feel its good enough to be in live action. Just look at some of the like "behind the scenes" where theres mixed reality with toothless. It works perfectly already.
The teaser definitely doesn't do the film any favours for it's first impression. I am cautiously optimistic about this film and I do think it could be a good remake. But at the same time, filmmakers and actors have lied about their films before so, we will need to take everything about the film until it's released with a grain of salt like you said.
Something that I’m a little on the fence about, but could be viewed as a minor detail is the cast is mostly English(UK), so the accents of the gang might not be American (I would even take Scottish over English), but hey I remain optimistic 😂
@ oh I’m completely aware, however, Jay’s accent is not too different to the rest of the kids in the movies, since depending of which province they are from, a Canadian and American can almost speak in the same accent, I know since I am Canadian, and since he’s from Ottawa, their relatively similar
@@matityaloran9157 oh yeah, I was skeptical of beings able to enjoy Hiccup due to not having a fitting voice, but it pretty similar, their’s not the clear distinct nose voice of Jay that we’ve learned to all love, but it should fit the character
Personally, I love the way the dragons look here, they gave Toothless back his stripes which is a win in my book. I'm pretty optimistic about the film, the cgi looks really good and the sets look gorgeous. As of this stage, it's too early to make proper judgements. In truth, they will never recapture the same magical feeling of the original so I'm hoping they try something different. Whether that be a change in the story or tone. The soundtrack sounds far more 'epic' which is pretty interesting. Maybe ot will focus on the darker undertones of the original, more of a look into Hiccup's mental turmoil. I'm actually excited to watch the trailer when it comes out. At the end of the day, it's best to keep an open mind. It's too early to tell just yet.
Faithfully adapting the book would be something different that they could do and make a good story in so doing. This trailer doesn’t look like that’s happening at all
1. DreamWorks not you too you're BETTER than this 2. I think Dean decided to direct it since they'd do it anyways and he wanted to salvage it as much as possible
Honest question I think how to train your Dragon is too recent to get a remake especially since it got sequels and a spinoff sequel series which People weren’t police about I will admit to see Gianna Toothless looks pretty good idea but that’s basically it what’s this and we’re going to give life action remix to Shrek Kung Fu Panda Megamine or heck even Madagascar
I'd say, just stick to the animated films. I just hope they don't do the same with Kung Fu Panda, and screw up the twist that there's no secret to being the Dragon Warrior.
Ngl, It's already bad enough that I as a fan of both studios equally (*but mostly in the old days.) had to put up with that overwhelming "Disney vs. DreamWorks" trend of unfunny and stale edits and memes when that all started with movies like Turning Red and Puss In Boots 2 even if either of them weren't much of my favorites, and now I had to put up that same situtation with HTTYD and Lilo & Stitch's live action remakes especially when both the original Lilo & Stitch and the original HTTYD trilogy were both my favorite animated movies as a fan of both DreamWorks AND Disney?? Ay caramba, I may not care about Disney's live action remakes and would be forced to accept defeat with DreamWorks beating Disney and all? but HTTYD getting a live action remake's where I draw the line, once I'm done watching Dog Man next year? I won't looking foward to anymore of Universal's DreamWorks projects as that also includes Shrek 5. Instead? I'm just gonna go back to watching my old DreamWorks favorites like the 2D and Aardman movies along with the original HTTYD trilogy,Over The Hedge, and Captain Underpants, just like how I did as a Disney fan with my old Disney favorites too like whenever it's the Pirates of the Carribean trilogy or Jetix. Anyway, I'm gonna go calm myself down by watching more Sonic 3,Mufasa, and The War of the Rohirrim videos and also figure out how to get some merch from those 3 movies I'mma be seeing for Christmas this year, y'all have a nice day lol.
These are just the same shots from the original…but not as good. Say what you will about Mufasa, at least it is an original story (although people are upset it’s not the exact same story from licensed books from like the 90s, originality is kind of a flipflop between if people want it or not).
It still feels like a cop out when you take into consideration that this a live action of a 3d animated movie. I bet you they just took the bones of the animation for the dragons and slapped a hyperrealistic skin over it. Someone's gonna do a shot by shot of the original vs this trailer someday and it'll be the exact same movements
Do you want to know a bangin remake that also features a dragon? Pete's Dragon. The original Pete's Dragon is a pretty fun movie with excellent animation on Elliot the dragon, but the acting is pretty bad from most of the cast, most of the songs aren't great, and the story just isn't all that compelling or engaging. The remake fixes all those things, makes it not a musical so it has a more serious tone (not that that can't be achieved with a musical) has good actors, an engaging and compelling story, great visuals, it's just a good ass movie. Remake very flawed movies, not movies with few flaws. Fix the issues, put an interesting spin on it.
maybe im a bit too positive, but it looks great, it would be amazing to see what they can do with the CGI, HTTYD is a childhood Memory for me, and at the same time i despise live actions and see them as soulless cash grabs as he said, but i think this one is justified, i think Dreamworks needs that Boost after what happened with Disney buying them and nearly screwing everything
watching this trailer has given me vibes of The Lion King 2019 remake all over again even seeing CGI tootless of the Dragon looks cool But I'm not to excited for it

let's say to disney that this is how to make a live action, with characters that look like the ones in the cartoon!
Who let him cook
Now one trilogy I'm really hopeful to remain awesome is the spider verse trilogy
I’ll be honest, it could look a hell of a lot worse.
Wow I can't believe we are geting a HTTYD live action movie before gta 6
Even if it's just a 1 to 1 remake, it looks really good based on what we see in the trailer, I'm cautiously optimistic
So having a closer re-adaptation of the Hiccup books is a better idea than this
“Wow! Dude, Berk Island!”
“I love Dreamworks so much!”
“Yo, Gobber! It’s Gobber! That’s Insane!”
“Can it get better?”
*insert celebrity name*
“It can get better!”
It's too soon, the franchise came to an end in 2019 and now we're getting this remake and likely remakes of the sequels if the first one is successful
I'm sure DreamWorks themselves have no business involvement in it there just here animating the dragons
i have high hopes for this movie
and it has gerad butler in so i gotta watch no matter what for stoick
Ngl it looks pretty good so far cgi wise. Hopefully it’ll be good
I knew you would talk about this because I know you are a huge How to Train Your Dragon fan and your opinions on live action remakes so it makes sense you to make a video about this as for me I am hoping its fine but I am worried about it at best it could be mid were its like ya it is not as good as the original but you can have fun with it and let's hope it is not as bad as Dragons the nine realms.
0:33 For a second I thought that was footage from the animated movie because of how much Toothless looks like his 2010 counterpart.
DreamWorks is copying Disney now!
That’s what I said lol
I'll admit that Toothless looks pretty good here. Otherwise, I'm not bothering with this remake.
Can't wait for your Disney Couples ranking video btw.
You are damned if you do it, damned if you didn't
We can have the creators change the source material but we can get a horrible result. LoTR fans send their regards.
I am optimistic but have my concerns.
Where did I say I don't like it when it changes the story?
@ my apologies I shouldn’t of assumed
@@ThePrincessCH True Yeah I agree. Idk how The larger fanbase would React to that tho
I am very optimistic about this
This feels like I’m watching a OUAT episode
@@noenya8047 How about "The Untamed" or "Mo Dao Zu Shi"?
So we're just getting the same movie but in live action? why bother watching?
I like it more than Dragons: The Nine Realms so far. At least Toothless looks really good.
stephen spielberg's ET with Drew Barrymore or Owen (Chris Pratt) and Blue (Raptor) from Jurrassic World more fit in for the comparison of the connection between real human and creature like Toothless and Hiccup.
It's looking fantastic to me 🤷♂️
Im probably not gonna watch or like the movie, but i am interested in the remake music
Yeah they have.
Creative incest is still disgusting even if there's less defects. All this money, time, and thought behind the scenes of a How To Train Your Dragon live action remake could've gone into a new movie like How To Train Your Dragon once was.
Tell that to Disney
@Dragonindigo245 Cinderella was a good remake as for the others. Ehhhhh
And you may be right about this new remake
I agree the live action How to Train Your Dragon is live action The Lion King all over again. That said, I'd sooner watch live action How to Train Your Dragon than live action Snow White.
Honestly, I hope the live action remake will be better than the wreck that Dragons: Nine realms became.
Look I'm going to be trying to watch it
For the fucking dragons
Dats it
We getting what these guys might look like if they were real
I AM NOT MISSING THAT
Paint by numbers remake with the OG charm taken away.
All I wanted was the dragons to look cool and it's VERY mixed.
They missed up the Nadder, AND the Zippleback
They also added the Rumblehorn for no fucking reason
Don't forget.
@@monster-mecha_enthusiast_2002Yep. I've watched EVERY canon HTTYD media
I got the 2 pack with that old game card when it first came out
@@GojiraFan-in9oo Nice.
I don’t know if you saw this but does toothless tall Look longer to you guys
Don’t care looks f’n amazing.
You care since you commented
Screw Mufasa I'm way more excited for Sonic the Hedgehog movie 3 for this holiday season hope it dominates in the Box Office
I'm worried it'll be retelling the same story from the 1st movie
Honestly you were kinder to this trailer than I was. I do hope the movie is good but yeah I won't deny this teaser did disappoint me.
The original movie starred a Canadian
@ oh I’m completely aware, however, Jay’s accent is not too different to the rest of the kids in the movies, since depending of which province they are from, a Canadian and American can almost speak in the same accent, I know since I am Canadian, and since he’s from Ottawa, their relatively similar
@@jacobboomhower2539 True, though the actor from this trailer seems to do a pretty good Jay Baruchel impression
This trailer doesn’t look like that’s happening at all
Sooo, you gonna watch Invincible Fight Girl...?
1. DreamWorks not you too you're BETTER than this
2. I think Dean decided to direct it since they'd do it anyways and he wanted to salvage it as much as possible
I think this live action remake is gonna be suck and it’s going to ruined my beloved DreamWorks childhood
No it’s not. You’re just whining.
@ no I’m not 😥 i’m just asking and it’s true or not yet and Jeffrey
The CEO of DreamWorks
Is getting like bob Iger
@@williampj3573 I was referring to you saying that this film will ruin your childhood. It can't do that.
@ well we just have to wait and see
See I was right or wrong
The trailer was released too early too soon.
3:09 Fair point, Dragon Evolution was the absolute worst
Let them COOK
I’d rather stick with the OG How to Train Your Dragon movie. In fact, You know what they SHOULDVE done? A live action Prince of Egypt Movie.
So far its looking excatly like a disnry remake. Also hating the hoodie this "hiccup" is in.
Honestly, this movie is doing was most live action remakes get really really really really wrong.
The CGI looks actually good.
Don't watch mufasa save the money for sonic3.
Ok
