    Two best pieces of advice that work for me:
    Keep your phone and your laptop out of your bedroom. Don't wake up and immediately scroll on social media or look at porn (yes, there are people that do this, just like how there are people who wake up and play videogames or smoke pot).
    Open your curtains and get sunlight in your eyes. Teach your brain that it's time to move.

    The no cold water after hypertrophy training is a new concept to me, and it makes total sense. Have started to hear a few people talk about the reasons why, it’s really interesting when considering how common an ice bath is post workout for athletes. Thank you guys for pushing out great content!

    • @tonyk174
      @tonyk174 Рік тому +27

      Well it’s simple, if you are taking a cold shower, your muscles will literally shrink. I remember when I did couple series of various push ups, realized I am late, eent to take a quick shower and after that shower I looked I didn’t ate for the whole day. Even though 5min earlier I was pumped.
      There is some study which claims that muscle grow is slowed approx by 20-25% when you are taking cold showers right after working out. So preferably wait some time or take cold showers earlier that day before working put or next day.
      You mentioed athletes, cold water or icing is causing the quicker recovery, which is more important than the muscle grow.

    I take daily medication before bed for severe chronic migraine (I've had since birth, it could be intracranial hypertension caused), and unfortunately one of the side effects from it is eight hours of drowsiness, so in the morning I am never perky and ready to go, it takes an additional hour or two for the medication side effects to wear off. I'm 60, I work out every day, weights, cardio, pilates, but I typically can't do my workouts until about 5:00pm due to my medical condition. I usually get up at around 7:00am, I have a small software business that I run. My home office window has the sun streaming through it every morning which is nice to wake up to.

      Going to the gym after work can actually prevent you from getting a good night’s sleep, making it harder to do anything the next day. I think if I’m getting enough exercise water, stimulation, rest and food does it matter if I read in bed in the morning ? Some times I get up early and sometimes I lie in. Sometimes I need more sleep so … I’m averse to rigid rules for how to live.

      Caffeine blocks adenosine receptors in the brain. You should wait 90-120 minutes for the adenosine to “dissipate”. Other wise once the caffeine wears off and the receptors are unblocked the residual adenosine will cause a crash.

    Any suggestions for single parents of a small child (too young to leave alone) with a full time job and a dog?
    My day starts at 5:30, letting the dog out, getting ready, packing lunches, and getting my 7 year old out the door to school by 7:20. Then its work, pick her up from school, homework, (sometimes soccer practice or youth group), getting my daughter to bed, doing the dishes, preping for the next day, and collapse. I barely have time to shower. I try to hike on the weekends with my kiddo when she doesn't have a game, but then its back to the grind.
    I've had to give up working out and I miss it so, SO much. At this point, working out is practically impossible. I can't even imagine having enough time to hop between a sauna and cold bath all day. It sounds like something only rich people and pro body builders can do. I know it won't always be this way but I'd be thankful for some genuinely helpful advice ("you have to make time" is NOT helpful people who are legitimately slammed during a particular stage in life).

      Yeah but isn’t it just so relaxing to get that extra sleep? I’m 35 and get told I look younger often. I sometimes wonder if it has to do with being a lazy bum and sleeping in a lot. I don’t work a nine to five and I’m typically off more than 2 weeks a month. It’s anecdotal but I really think lack of stress, sleeping 8-9 hrs a night, and collagen supplements are key to staying younger looking.
