This past Sunday, my 67-year-old friend passed away. He was a creature of habit riding his bike around 7:45 am on a rural road when he was stuck by a white truck and killed. The perpetrator left the scene and the police are continuing their investigation. My friend had a wife and two grown children. Listening to Andrew’s Podcast this morning renewed my faith in God. I will go to the funeral Monday in a different state of mind.
Well, not everybody’s perfect. Even great scientists can get something wrong every now and then. Issac newton thought the pope might be the antichrist.
no lol, firstly quoting someone doesn't make you right, nor does a neuroscientist claiming to be a believer verify whether his beliefs are valid or not. he's a smart guy in his own field, but him professing his faith means just as much as my local grocery store clerk doing the same.
Andrew is an all round amazing role model: Excellent scientist, strong athlete and good natured human being. I definitely sense his intention to serve humanity with love in his podcast. Its like his positive and caring intention comes through his content. Now, with his humility and admiration for God, I respect him even more. It inspires me to connect more frequently with my spiritual side and express that which wants to be expressed through me.
@1st-Harmonic did you even read my comment? If a person does not believe in anything like the things you are listing, is that cause enough to not respect them because of it? Get your head out of your ass.

Completely agree. The world needs more teachers with this humility and passion for what they do. If educational systems hired teachers with this type of profile. The world wouldn't have so many problems
Huberman’s argument is one from incredulity. A Muslim, Hindu, Jehovah’s Witness, Mormon, Sikh and Bahai can also appeal to faith. Clearly, faith is not a reliable pathway to truth.
@@Jonas-gl9ke Hindus don't appeal to faith, we believe in invoking the God in this realm itself. That's what the ritual is all about. Huberman exemplifies why humans must be humble about their beliefs and their understanding of science and research. As an agnostic, I really admire his approach to science and, also, the way he approaches his faith. This humbleness and passion for what he does is truly commendable.
There's nothing "humble" about asserting that there's some dude, who created the universe and rules it. Let alone that you're in a special relationship with that dude.
@@MrCmon113 well, perhaps I didn't explain myself correctly. Humble is the one who doesn't affirm or negate things for which he has no evidence or no knowledge of. It is true that negating a premise doesn't need evidence, but the premise has to be valid. E.G: debating what happened before the Big Bang is based upon a false premise since time itself is a dimension which arose from Big Bang itself, so there shouldn't be a before, strictly speaking.

Andrew, I just want to say thank you. You've given me a peace I haven't known for years. Even if this feeling is fleeting I'm still so thankful for it. My journey with faith and God has been marked by doubt, hearing you speak about God carries through to me.
Doubt is a part of the process, God will allow the devil/or demons to do this to you, as a way to test wether you will have complete faith in him, even when literally everything around you is going to shit. God wants to you to be fearless, no matter how bad things are, to have faith in him in a manner/degree that most who don't understand would consider bordering on complete delusion.

This is absolutely amazing and I love the emphasis on prayer. I have been battling a lot of health issues as well as just life events in general, especially in the last few weeks. I began praying for my purpose and asking for a sign of why I’m here. Long story short, I went for a random late night drive last Sunday night. Something I never do. I ended up saving someones life and partly because I had exactly what this person needed due to my own health problems. Paramedics told me she probably wouldn’t have made it if I didn’t pull over. Right place at the right time doesn’t even cut it. I think I got the sign I was asking for. God bless anyone who reads this and thank you Dr Huberman for speaking on your faith 🙏 The world needs more scientists like this.

@@nobeliefisok9174 Listen to the interview and you'll hear Huberman say what they quoted... like a conduit, he later states. Or like a talented athlete goes on to coach a team, sharing the skills or strategies they were taught, ones that came from an outside source and now pass through them to their players.
Although AH makes no mention of Jesus in his experience of praying to God, his desire to “harness care and love” models Jesus (the God-man) of the Bible he is endeavoring to read. As to the life-changing quote from the author of this thread, Galatians 2:20 comes to mind (sounds familiar to the point he is making). The reality of it’s truth in my personal experience has been a source of strength & peace. How? Not sure, exactly. And like AH said, “it works.” I guess that is the point of faith. (Hebrews 11)
I think us in the medical field believe in God more than anyone else. I’ve seen stuff that can only be explained by our Father. I’ve had God takeover my hands and guide me. If we tell anyone they’ll think we’re crazy which is why we’re hush hush about it. I’m glad he’s speaking out 🤲

God has tremendously blessed me and my family with material blessing. I constantly remind myself that my participation in him doesn’t necessitate this. His promise that he works for the good of all those who love him and are called according to his purposes does not require him to materially bless me. We live in a fallen world where Jesus said we will pay a cost, we will endure trials. The promise still stands that God will work it for good. It’s not worthless or wasteful. On gifts and skills I think skills are inherent to the uniqueness of who we are, while gifts are things where he imparts a capability that we didn’t have. I think it’s responsible to be a good steward of gifts and skills but I think the hat trick of God is that when we participate in his plans, he will use the skills and gifts we possess to bring about his glory in a way that the world would not have expected. He will use a skill or gift in us that isn’t what the world would have thought is required for that success outcome. We see this time and again from Moses to Hannah to David to Peter to Paul to Timothy and many more. This was an encouraging clip.
Just Wow! I already respected and found Huberman uplifting and inspiring but this interview takes it to another level. People like me (atheist) do not care whether religious people like you think science is a polar opposite of your religion. I do not have a belief in your god, and I use the scientific method because it works better than any other method. That's the end of it. The scientific methods works really well. If you want to believe in a religion and also use the scientific method, go ahead. But if you conflate the two, such as using the text in an old scroll as equal to a theory supported via the scientific method then your opinion on the matter is no longer compatible with the scientific method. Old texts are not evidence for anything. Take a look at scientology or Mormonism for example. Both have a book that was written in recent history. Are both of these religions true because of that?
"People like me (atheist) do not care whether religious people like you think science is a polar opposite of your religion." - precisely the inverse of what I posted.

The part where you talked about keeping your faith and prayer secret really hit home with me. Growing up in catholic home but a secular world, felt like growing up between meaning and nihilism. It’s been an internal struggle my whole life, but Jordan Peterson helped a ton. Thank you for being so open about your faith.
I can relate, growing up faith was more or less largely personal and private to a degree. It doesn’t help that much if Christian teaching has been misunderstood to varying degrees resulting in a false characterization of Christian faith such as it being “blind” even though it’s literally the opposite.
I sat front row, seeing Andrew in Toronto a short while ago. You can see and feel the kindness and humanity resonate from him. It was a wonderful evening. This is amazing to hear! Dr Huberman’s podcast is one of the many forms of media that has drawn me closer to God. My understanding of the mind and brain has blown my mind 🤯. It’s all so miraculous. Keep reading front to back Dr. H, this is how it works, when the Word of God comes to recollection through those neurological pathways that is the primary way through which God speaks. Praying God will put all of the pieces together for your understanding. Jesus was there in the beginning, if you research the Hebrew text you will see. The Holy Bible is really the instruction manual for this life 🙏🏽 All of the Christian faith practices prime our way of thinking for the life beyond this natural world. Jesus is the way the truth and the life.
I’ve studied Christianity and thought that loving God was commitment to studying and discipline. After listening to this podcast - I just felt the intense direction to lighten up and love and love again. Pray and pray again. I use my mind to love God but after hearing Andrew explain his simple prayer and his simplicity to agreeing that we just can’t control everything and then there’s God. I need God because I can’t control everything. Simple. That fresh truth to me and I’m 73! I recognize fresh when I’m old enough to keep accommodating old and recycled - nope! Fresh is “I can’t control everything!” Like a child I accept the lack of control and pray. “Tank ya’ Andrew!” 😊
Thank you Andrew. Thank you for being vulnerable. Thank you for not being afraid to say what you really feel. Thank you for just stepping out when science doesn't normally do that. You can't see the birth process or how things are structured and not be amazed at creation. You can't explain it. When you go to a funeral and it's spiritually uplifting because you know isn't the end here on earth. That's peace. That's God speaking to you and thru you. And now the platform you have will allow you to share that as a scientist. People need to hear the truth now more than ever. I'm always searching for how to be better and do better and the youth tree so to speak. But when I step back and read the word, hear worship music, and just feel his presence and love...well then nothing else matters. God's got this...let him speak thru you. That's why you are experiencing what you are experiencing. God Bless You my friend.

@@creativeape8994 As Dr. Huberman mentioned in this video, read the Bible. Start in the New Testament (book of Matthew) and take note of everything Jesus says. Contemplate it, wrestle with it, apply it. The Holy scriptures are a fountain of wisdom. A boiled down synopsis… The timeless, spaceless, immaterial, personal, and all powerful being (God) created our universe (time space and matter). He created us as his representatives (image bearers) to love Him, love others, and flourish under his design and purpose for us. Humans were created by God with free will and chose to rebel against God by violating his standards and purposes for us. Because humans violate God’s law (lying, stealing, cheating, adultery, coveting, treating one another poorly, not honoring God…) we become criminals and a penalty/fine is accrued that must be paid. Because God is perfectly just and perfectly righteous, the penalty/fine must be paid, otherwise He would be unjust. Instead of you paying that penalty/fine through separation from Him in a place called the lake of fire, God came down in human form as God the Son (Jesus) and lived a perfect life (never violating the law once) and paid our penalty/fine through his crucifixion and death. Then he rose from the grave and now sits at God the Father’s right hand being given all power and authority. Everyone who trusts in Jesus alone for their salvation, admitting they are sinners (law breakers) and submitting their entire lives to him, turning (repenting) from their old ways and making Jesus Lord of their life are therefore given a righteous standing before God as well as eternal life in God’s presence/Kingdom. That’s the Gospel. Either you can pay for your sins (wrongdoings) or Jesus can pay for them for you. The choice is up to you. God bless you, I pray God illuminates your path and guides you. 🙏🏼 “For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life. These last few months I found the discipline to wake up before work every morning and exercise, before work. After that I meditate. I stacked these two habits. I made sure to do both. To exert myself and to also find time for stillness. Both so important in different ways. After some time of practicing this stillness I was able to fathom praying. Something I have never done as an adult. I did it as a child. It somewhow faded overtime. I do feel that its becoming easier and, for what its worth, I feel changes in my spirit and attitude. @@Supe204 I've been philosophising about this A LOT for many years and I've also taken several different psychedelic substances along the way. And one of the things that I've realised is that it seems like we all have this internal judge within us making us aware of how good/useful of a person you really are for the people around you and that are somewhat close to you, and whatever the level is, is directly linked to your will to live. So one reason many people feel deppressed is because this "internal judge" realise that you aren't contributing enough. If you really think about it, it becomes pretty much impossible to find a scenario where this isn't the case. But you might say, well what about psychopaths? I think that psychopaths are actually the loneliest people on earth, even if it doesn't seem like it, that is how they experience it And the reason they don't do anything about it is because they don't think they know any better, they've experienced life that way since they were very young. One thing you could say is that psycopaths and narcissists are actively supressing this internal judge. However the big difference between psychopaths and a narcissists is that psychopaths have since a very young age already accepted the world/people around them as something not worth fighting for so they fight only for themselves, they've kinda replaced their mental space of "the people around you" with themselves, whereas a narcissist is more actively in conflict with this internal judge which is why they seem so bitter and easily triggered. Because when you start to convince yourself that "the internal judge" doesn't exist you seemingly only end up more bitter and eventually you might even commit suicide. A perfect example of this are all the transgender people, they are ALL narcissists even though they might also be very good people. And MANY of them do end up commiting suicide. Anyway, I think this internal judge IS GOD. It is at least one of the things that many people refer to when they speak of God.

@@torreyintahoe well, he referenced the Bible which provides the most in depth story we have about the designer. Wow. That kind of openness and baring your soul about what you feel and believe takes incredible courage and is extremely touching. Thank you once again Dr. Huberman for being such an inspiration.
I found this video after honestly praying to God for a sign, and it was first time in my life that I prayed so truthfully and honestly with word "help" in mind. My biggest concern with faith in God was scientific evidence based mindset about free will. It was made from studing human brain as a chemist and when I saw that prof Huberman who knows about human mind x100 more than I am -can humbly say that he believes in God and reads the Bible. Whis message just blew my mind and I started crying because more signs beside this occured at the same time in my live. God is really present in everybody!
God is present in everybody. John 14:20 "In that day you will know that I am in the Father, and you are in me and I am in you." We are in him. He is in us.
I'll always be grateful for my university cellular biology professor who said, "Look at the complexities of cellular processes - marvel - there is a God." Thank you, Dr. Huberman, for sharing your faith in God 🙏
i am so grateful for this message! i refer so many of my patients as a therapist to The Huberman podcast and it is my honest belief that healing comes through faith!!!!
What a great message! Most people listening to this episode are doing it in time. It's a great message for men of all ages. We need more role models like this Mr. I will start following your work, thank you.
Which God ? Does He define what He means by God ? Does He identify who God is ? Does He believe Jesus Christ of Nazareth is God incarnate ? God in the flesh ? Does He believe the basic fundamentals of Christianity that man is a sinner and will be judged by God and go to eternal punishment unless He repents and puts His faith in Christ to save him ?
Maybe or maybe not, but whether or not any of that is true we must pray for him. Pray that the Lord continues to guide him to the truth and that through his continued reading of Bible and his own prayer that God in his fullness and entirety may be revealed to him brother.
Love this so much. Thank you for sharing, Cameron, and so much respect to Andrew for his honesty and vulnerability about God and prayer. It's so sad to see when faith and the intellectual life are stereotyped against one another; and so refreshing to see a man like Andrew, who possesses so much goodness and decency, break those false dichotomies with his authenticity.

Science is man's most purified attempt to look at the architechture of God's ongoing creativity and grace. It invigorates my weary heart to learn that Huberman is a faithful man, though it does not surprise me to find this because his faith shines through his character. Of course, then, he would be so willing to proclaim his belief, because he is a truth-teller, one who has no qualms about pointing out fallacy, bias, or anything that could be percieved as such. Brilliant! I am having a greater evening than I was before!
To all christian brothers and sisters, please pray for Andrew Huberman, pray that GOD may draw him near and open his eyes to the truth, he is already reading in the living word of GOD!
"a lot of prayer is about listening." Amen, brother! That got me goosebumps right there, it's so true. When I start praying and I become aware that I am literally speaking to the Almighty God, that created 100 billions of galaxies, the Holy One, that can read my heart's deepest desires in an instant, I automatically start to scan myself and see if I am even worthy of talking to Him. One pastor once said: you don't need to pray for humility in God's presence because in His presence you cannot but be aware of your faults and your lowliness. This I believe is the reason why many people turn away from him, arguing that there is no God, because His existence makes them uncomfortable. That being said, it is also God who exalts us after we humble ourselves before Him. Anyways, Dr. Huberman is completely right here and it goes along with something that Dr. J. Peterson pointed out before: about asking yourself what things you are doing to screw up your life and "life (which is a personal God)" will answer you immediately. Praise God for the Holy Spirit who reveals things to us!
Thank you for having Dr. Andrew Huberman on your podcast and for the open and candid conversation about his connection to God. Much gratitude to you Andrew Huberman for opening up about this and for sharing your strength & hope.
Dr Huberman has been such an inspiration to me on my scientific path, in how I approach questions about the mind and the brain. How wonderful it is to hear his openness about faith after all this time. I don't know if people appreciate how much a scientist needs to contend with when confronted with the question of faith. What it means to belong to the scientific community and allow your personal foundation to be metaphysical, and to disregard the unjustly presupposed dichotomy of the two. Not to mention the inevitable continuous inner dialogue. So much work goes into a life of faith. I commend Dr Huberman for this, among numerous of his accomplishments.
Studies on intercessory prayer are typically inconclusive at best, and some of the people that were prayed for reportedly did worse, due to performance anxiety. Nothing against prayer, but there’s no solid evidence showing it works. Personal anecdotes seem to be examples of confirmation bias, and there’s not a way to reliably demonstrate a causal link between prayers and the positive outcome that followed.
@@fergalg-mu4wd Were you told that God would speack audibly? I dont find that to be the truth at all. i believe that God can confirm things that you thinking or reading but nothing audible. Also is that what made you an athiest? if not that, what was it? id like to help to the best of my ability.

Should the children starving around the world just pray harder? My problem with this is that it's usually privileged people saying this. Not trying to be rude, it's a serious question. Why would God help you with your first world issues when there is immense suffering elsewhere? That is my problem that I haven't found a good answer to. I want to believe but this is a issue for me personally.
@@dotsona07 …funny how we always want to blame God for our evil hearts and poor choices. The children that are starving, abused and being sold into sex slavery (in your own town by the way) are suffering because you are doing nothing to help them. There will be no real ‘peace on earth’ with out Jesus - until we turn to the one and only God that can save us from ourselves…💔
@@dotsona07Prayer helps God to change us for our benefit, not necessarily just for our own needs and wants. Once we see our dependence and need on Him we can see his outflowings in our lives, notably, throughout history through charity, hospital building, giving, being generous, and loving neighbor - all flowing from/inherently Christian principles. The children in the third world need our help as first worlders - God will use us to do just that, if we pray to Him and He changes our wills to be more like His - loving. I'm sure they'll be lots of answered prayer for those children too - we just don't know what those prayers and answers are, and it's our duty to try where we can to help them because all people are made in the image of God and have inherent value - something secularism can't provide.

This is so beautiful. I’ve never heard Huberman speak like this, it’s so rare nowadays to hear people with big platforms talk about their faith.
This comes at exactly the right time. This is what the world needs to hear. God is in charge. We can not do it all by ourselves. We fool ourselves if we don’t believe in God.
But which God?

The part where you talked about keeping your faith and prayer secret really hit home with me. Growing up in catholic home but a secular world, felt like growing up between meaning and nihilism. It’s been an internal struggle my whole life, but Jordan Peterson helped a ton. Thank you for being so open about your faith.
I can relate, growing up faith was more or less largely personal and private to a degree. It doesn’t help that much if Christian teaching has been misunderstood to varying degrees resulting in a false characterization of Christian faith such as it being “blind” even though it’s literally the opposite.

One of the best interviews! Andrew’s take on this is beautiful, spot on, and nice to hear coming from a human of his intellect. Thanks Andrew 🙏🏻👊🏻

A boiled down synopsis…
The timeless, spaceless, immaterial, personal, and all powerful being (God) created our universe (time space and matter).
“For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.”

I recently came in to a big life change. I travel quite a bit and always come up with excuse to why i can’t fit things i need into my life. I have been wanting to explore my connection with God/ nature. To feel the presence of something higher.
Exercise and meditation have become an amazing constant in my life. Maybe prayer will be the next pillar!

I think that psychopaths are actually the loneliest people on earth, even if it doesn't seem like it, that is how they experience it
And the reason they don't do anything about it is because they don't think they know any better, they've experienced life that way since they were very young.
I sensed evil the first time I heard of him. Evil and stupidity. Turns out I was right. Have you heard about his most recent allegations against him?

Yeah but he can't tell you where the designer came from and it's also an assumption that life is random chance.
@@torreyintahoe well, he referenced the Bible which provides the most in depth story we have about the designer. But of course he won't have full knowledge about the designer because Huberman himself is part of the creation. He will have to discern from the blueprints which the designer left in creation, and he will have to apply his reasoning and logical faculties, which Huberman has done quite well.
@@reclaimedrecovery The problem with that is that virtually everything the Bible tells us abut the nature of the universe is demonstrably false. The creation story is false.

Love this. Prayer completely “works.” It’s outstanding how God listens and it so involved in our lives ❤

I'm sure they'll be lots of answered prayer for those children too - we just don't know what those prayers and answers are, and it's our duty to try where we can to help them because all people are made in the image of God and have inherent value - something secularism can't provide.
Dr Huberman's openness is very inspirational to me,that is,not to be afraid to speak your mind and banish the fear of being judged by saying who you really are.I am impressed. Thanks,Andrew!
I’ve always thought I could hear the undertone of real faith in Dr Huberman’s podcasts and interviews. I’m glad to know with certainty the source of his strength and peace! Knowing the Creator of the brain must make discoveries much more exciting and personal! I really enjoyed this interview! Thank you!
