I've been watching Palm Royale and the main character loves this drink.
Uncle Pete made us all ice cream grasshoppers at our family Christmas celebration.
A blender full at a time.
Adding a tablespoon of fernet branca ala jeffrey morgenthaler really improves it imo.
Sounds terrific! Love Fernet!
The addition of barspoon of fernet and a dash of Aztec Chocolate bitters is my go to.
@@ACoBildo 👌
@@ACoBildo Awesome!!
Never tried one, but I am liking the ingredient list, so... I'm in!
same
I've only made one, and I had to substitute whole milk for the cream. It was amazing. Honestly, full-fat cream may be too much.@@m444ss
First drink I ever tried. Mom and Dad let me try one when I was about eight. Thank God your version isn’t puke green. Thanks, might actually give the Grasshopper another try.
This beauty sounds delicious Cara! I can't believe that I have never had a Grasshopper! How can that be?!! I will definitely make one! Terrific video!! Cheers! 🙂
Old drink indeed! My Ma isn't a drinker but ordered one a few yrs ago for her taste memory of, as she had tried before. She didn't like 😂
It's funny to me.
Ha, for some reason I never realized more cream would actually make it less sweet. I like the version where you stir creme de menthe and creme de cacao together, then add cream as a separate layer on top
Raj's drink of choice on "The Big Bang Theory"
I'm going to try one with just 1/4 oz. cream de menthe.
Mmmm. I haven't one of these in a long time!!!
Love the spec! Tried it today - very creamy and actually...addictive. Cheers!
love it, as former barista and bartender, there is a non alcohol version you can make at starbucks that is the same idea..matcha, Java chips, and a pump of classic syrup, frappuccino of course.
I also did some time as a Starbucks barista!
"Spence: How did they finally get to you?
Sam: They gave me a grasshopper.
Spence: What's a grasshopper?
Sam: Let's see, two parts gin, two parts brandy, one part Creme de Menthe..."
Ronin movie 1998.
I think, among a certain demographic, that quote is by now inseparable from the cocktail.
I just wonder...where on *earth* did the brandy that Sam mentions come from? This version doesn't include it. The version in my copy of Cocktail Codex doesn't include brandy. Not even the version in my copy of the Wines & Spirits volume of the ancient Time Life Foods Of The World series has it, although some of their cocktail recipes are outlandish (egg white and cream in a French 75‼️⁉️ 🤬). The only version I found that used brandy was one of five (!) variations listed in Difford's Guide, the "Gustings Grasshopper".
@@christopherreed4723 For me it's just one of those "if you know, you know" kind of movie scenes. Like James Bond's quips about the quality of the brandy and the serving temperature of Dom Perignon in "Goldfinger", Paul Giamatti's hate of Merlot in "Sideways" or my personal favourite, the 1783 Hennessy brandy sequence form "Highlander": ua-cam.com/video/T8dVElW3chk/v-deo.html
A Stinger is a mixture of brandy and crème de menthe so it may have been a blend of the two 😊
But...but...a Stinger isn't a Ronin reference. It's a Gorky Park reference! 😄
I've made Grasshopper many times but I ONLY use Creme de Cacao and Creme de Menthe ( screaming green ofc xD ) and no cream.
(Both from the fridge, mixed and shaked, then served in a glass with one big icecube I then remove right before given to the guests)
Did not know it was almost made with cream, thanks for sharing it!
We use to drink a few of them every drinks night for dessert and called them "Liquid After Eights" :)
Ooh yours is like a cross between a Stinger and a Grasshopper - delicious!
Love it! Grew up with these back in the 60s, alongside Brandy Alexanders - always nice to end a meal with a boozy dessert cocktail. Thanks for the updated version.
Love an Alexander too!
I ordered this at my 21st b-day dinner celebration. I thought it was very tasty then. Haven't had one in years, but this video made me want to have one again. The other cocktail I ordered that night was a Rusty Nail. Didn't like that one. Never had it again. Maybe it's time to give it another go.
I usually make a Rusty Nail more like an Old Fashioned, bump up the whisky and use the Drambuie as an accent - maybe try that 😊
@@BehindtheBar - good idea, thanks for the recommendation
What a beatiful glass!
grasshopper jumps up to the bar, bartender says, we have a drink named after you, grasshopper says, you have a drink named "Bob"?
🤣
like this drink but too sweet & heavy. will try your version. thx!
Great! Just jumping out of the Glass 🥰😬
