  • Geomechanics is the study of how soils and rocks deform. Sometimes the Rock fails, in response to changes of stress, pressure, and temperature as well as other environmental parameters.
In the petroleum industry, geomechanics tends to focus on rocks, but the distinction becomes blurred because unconsolidated rocks can behave like soils.
Geomechanics field has developed over the last 10-15 years and the application is across the life cycle from Drilling, Reservoir and Production Engineering Discipline.
So, what is Geomechanics used for in the exploration and production ?
Max, Min and Vertical stress orientation
    Mud Weight Window
    Wellbore stability
    Hydraulics Fracturing #hydraulicsfracturing
    Sand Production #sand
    Compaction and Subsidence
The application of geomechanics for revitalizing mature fields is imperative and will affect activities such as infill drilling, compaction mitigation and refracturing

Looks like it's been prepared by someone who knows their subject and then edited by someone who has no idea about it. It goes from very simple to very complicated in the same viewgraph.
