  • In this video I will go back to the basics. My youtube journey really started with buying and making miniature kits. And as a book lover, I decided to make another book-themed one hehe. I’ve completed a few book-themed kits before, but this is currently the most detailed and elaborate one I’ve done so far. I’m now really tempted to design and make one from scratch…thoughts?
    Also a huge thanks to CuteBee. For this video, CuteBee let me choose a dollhouse or book nook kit to make. No payment was received, nor is is there any commission arrangement. I have personally already purchased and made many kits from them previously 😝.
    Prior to this, I purchased almost all of my kits from Amazon (and a large number of them are from the official CuteBee Amazon store XD), but it’s nice to get a discount from time to time. However do compare the final prices and tracking services included before you purchase!
    Items used in this project:
    *Eternal Bookstore kit (from the official Cutebee amazon store): amzn.to/3QqtnMx
    *Self healing cutting mat - amzn.to/3j9M1tO
    *Craft/modelling knife - amzn.to/3WaHPrS
    *Tweezers - amzn.to/3Yxn1gq, amzn.to/3YqWTU9
    *Precision scissors - amzn.to/3W9ON0k, amzn.to/3Fl21QU
    *Craft awl - amzn.to/3Ps84I3
    *Glue applicator - amzn.to/3FoHN95
    Note that I have bought and tried all of these items myself. Since I am an amazon associate, I will also earn a small commission if you purchase from the links above. You are more than welcome to purchase elsewhere, especially if you find a cheaper price, or if you prefer to support smaller local companies. I always advocate for supporting what you believe in and always comparing and being careful when purchasing online :)

    There have been some comments concerning counterfeit products. After doing some digging, I noticed that Cutebee has released a statement on its website with details on how to distinguish real products from fake ones. The safest spots to purchase will be from the official Cutebee store or the official Amazon Cutebee store. Please be very careful where you purchase your kits!
    If anyone reading this has accidentally bought a counterfeit, if you would like to share any details, please contact Cutebee so they can file an infringement complaint.
    Note: there were also concerns that Cutebee’s product is the bootlegged version. Cutebee has stated that this product was something that took them two months to develop with their design team, and they have the relevant certificates, patents and copyrights.
    Now that that’s out of the way, please enjoy your time making the kit (and also watching the video 😆)!

      Don't be naive, cutebee are resellers. It's ROLIFE that manufactures most of these, there are other manufacturers but I'ma gatekeep. FYI there are no "counterfeit" of these, they all come from the same place, just bought from the same manufacturer and resold.
      Also there's nothing wrong with resellers as you wouldn't find these products if it wasn't for resellers advertising in the firstplace, theyre priced higher as it costs a lot for them to pay for FB ads and such.

It was hard to know which to go for so I picked a mid-priced one. The one I ended up with has quality 3D push-out wooden pieces but the instructions are an impenetrable photocopied sheet, so i conclude i got a bootleg (for which the product page no longer exists on Amazon btw). What tool did you use to fold the papers into a book? I tried manually folding them and it was a big miss. Helpful tips; 1)use a Q-tip or the screwdriver provided to roll the maps really tight, 2)dry fit pieces first of course, 3)use a Wood Finish Stain Marker pen to color the back of some of the pieces that might peak out. I used mahogany, not an exact match but it's close enough. The backs of all the pieces are not stained so I colored some of them.

    • @azukibeanhobbies
      @azukibeanhobbies  Рік тому +3

      Thanks so much for the tips, especially for the Q-tip one, I’ve been trying to roll the papers up without them creasing xD. I don’t have any of those stain marker pens yet, I usually use staining gels for raw wood, but markers will be handy for the edges. For folding the papers, I used a pointy craft awl to score the paper before folding and it makes folding so much easier.

    I made this and it was a lot of fun! Just realize this isn’t something you can whip together in a couple of hours. The most tedious part is making all of the books. The instructions were clear but this video really helped, especially with the lighting. It comes on lettered panels-A,B,C,D,and E. So when the instructions talked about panel F I was a little dumbfounded. Turns out the instructions were wrong and F was actually A. Another fault to the kit is that the battery pack is in the back, a very inconvenient spot. It took me three days to complete. It’s beautiful!

    • @azukibeanhobbies
      @azukibeanhobbies  Рік тому

      Thank you! I’m glad this was able to help you with the incorrect instructions. And I totally agree with the battery being at the back. It’s a bit annoying having to take the entire book nook out of the shelf every time to turn on the lights. I made a book nook that’s (not a kit) after this, and I decided to put the battery pack on the top!

    Hi! I'm about to start this very kit myself. I saw your glue recommendation for Deluxe but I was also wondering how long you leave each glued piece to dry or if you use clamps to keep the glued pieces together while they dry. I've never crafted anything like this before so I'm looking for all the tips I can get! I will definitely be referencing this video as I go along because you did a masterful job!

    • @azukibeanhobbies
      @azukibeanhobbies  Рік тому +2

      Hi! Thank you for watching 😊. Deluxe glue is pretty strong so no need for clamps. The waiting time is not that long, the label says it dries in 30-60 minutes but I’ve never actually timed it myself, I usually move on to the to the next piece and by the time I’m done with that, the previous piece should be ready. It’s also quite flexible, so the pieces can be manoeuvred a bit even after drying (as long as you don’t but too much glue otherwise the bond might be too strong)
      Also some of the pieces are very delicate so please be very very careful! I’ve broken a few of them as I was too hasty, but they can be very carefully glued back together. Have fun making this kit!

    Since I first saw you make this kit a few months ago, it's been in and out of my amazon cart. During that time, I started doing 1:12 scale dollhouse rooms and thought I could just make my own. However, now that I have experience messing around with putting wood boxes together and spending the mortgage money on well-crafted pieces on Etsy, I'm starting to think it would cost me the same, if not more, to make one myself, compared to buying the kit. This looks pretty intricate, but I see it as a personal challenge. I guess I could add a few of pieces of my own. My primary concern is whether the lighting will be too hard to put in. Thoughts? Thanks.

    • @azukibeanhobbies
      @azukibeanhobbies  Рік тому

      Hi! Kits are a good starting point as it contains all the basic pieces you need to complete it. All the pieces of these book nook kits are made of wood and are pre-printed and pre-cut and don't look very realistic when you view them up close.
      If you prefer a more realistic-looking book nook, you could make one yourself, but it will take considerably more time and effort and possibly cost (if you buy separate supplies instead of using what you have at hand).
      The lighting that comes with the kit is many times easier than doing it yourself. The entire kit has been designed to make the lighting fit and unnoticeable, whereas making your own book nook, you will need to figure this out.
      In my next video, I make my own book nook that's not a kit, so maybe you can have a look and see which you prefer :)

For this kit though, all you really need are a cutting mat, the batteries, glue and exacto knife - most of which you already bought :) and the wood stain pens are a good idea for filling in the edges of the pieces.
      Most book nook kits also come with a tiny screwdriver and mini sandpaper filer - I can’t recall this 100% since I used a different one in the video, but I believe this one does as well. Will you be sending the gift directly, or will you be receiving this first? If you receive this first, you can check if it comes with the screwdriver.
      Also, I recommend only buying this from the Cutebee store, either from their Amazon store or directly from them. There have been lots of people who bought bad quality bootlegged versions of this particular kit.

      I did! It looks really nice! My bookshelf doesn’t have space for books anymore 😂. I’m currently working on the next big project atm and it’s taking all of my time 🥲. There are a few kits I want to do, but just can’t get to it right now. Hopefully I can fit one in between the next big projects :)
