@John Fusco 😂😂 You make me laugh your hate is through the roof! Keep it down a little! Let me educate your deluded self a little bit...You talk of written language and by that, I know you mean English. We wrote in our own language and because you don't understand the complexities of these languages doesn't mean ain't no written records. Talk about massive structures, look at the pyramids of Giza in Egypt built by the ancient Kushites, the Great Zimbabwe palace which was built without the use of mortar yet it's a massive structure that stands to this day....and if we want to talk about the clothing you're just a stupid man who just speaks out of hate and not logic, silk can never be moderate clothing to the Savana climate hence they resorted to wearing animal hides which both protected them from the harsh climate and thickets. Royalty and nobles would wear leopard skin which is still exquisite and very expensive to this day! Talk about the courage to kill a leopard, you Europeans without a gun couldn't do shit! So sit down and drink a lemonade!

It's good to see somebody acutally celebrating 'black' history that isn't purely about black people in 'white' countries. Africa has a rich and diverse history of its own. But if you bring slavery into the subject, Africans have always been far greater slavers than Europeans/Americans ever have.

He's talking about the Portuguese who tried to colonize modern day somalia after they had basically taken over other swahili city state south of the ajuraan somali empire. The somalis met then in naval warfare and defeated them. They also fought against another somali kingdom called adal who are located in modern day somaliland, djibouti and large parts of modern day ethiopia. The somalis where at war with the ethiopians and the Portuguese came to assist the ethiopians so they could get a foothold in the area. Both sides lost and won battles but for the most part it was in favour of the somalis who had ottoman assistance and they where pushing deeper and deeper into ethiopian territory almost end ethiopia as we know it today. However it all came to a halt when the somali king/general imam ahmed was hit by a stray bullet which lead to the somalis falling back out of ethiopian territory.

"Africa was THIS before Slavery" continues to list empire's that existed in close proximity of India, Persia, Egypt, basically anywhere close to the Mediterranean and Red Seas and Persian Gulf. All surrounding kingdoms have records of owning slaves from the empires listed. That means even the empires listed either sold slaves to the surrounding empires, or were conquered by the surrounding empires. And the Kingdom of the Zulu, ruled by Shaka himself, wasn't even mentioned.
Only Timbuktu stands out as having been mostly neutral and a city of academia all the way up until the sands of the Sahara spread and choked out it's agriculture, which I believe didn't happen until the 1600-1700s.

@@Mista_Terrific81 the Greeks and Romans enslaved the same peoples as every other Mediterranean empire, Persia included. There's too much documentation on that. Caesar defeated Shakka Zulu and made Shakka governor of the Caesar's wheat-growers in Zulu-controlled Africa, and Caesar expected servants, slaves, and eunuchs as part of annual taxes/tribute paid to the Emperor.
Serfdom was also magnitudes worse than Chattel Slavery, and Europe experienced the same, if not worse, oppression under serf laws from their own rulers that black slaves experienced for a few hundred years, and serfdom existed for well over a millennium. Read about the Kingdom of Aksum that existed around 100BC, the first of all Kingdoms to have existed. It was located around modern day Ethiopia, Egypt, Eritrea, Sudan, South Sudan, and Parts of Yemen. The Ark of the Covenant was thought or believed to have been located in the Chapel of Axum (in the City of Axum). This is why the Kingdom of Aksum (original name) was also know as the Kingdom of Axum. God bless Africa.

@Patient Devil That's true. I've heard plenty of people refer to Egypt or North Africa in general as being a part of the middle east because a lot of the people that live there are Arab. However, that doesn't mean they aren't African, and Arabs are an ethnic group, so who's to say that there aren't any black Arabs?. Africa is such a diverse continent it's a shame they try to cut it up as North Africa and Sub Saharan Africa (aka the "black" part).

It's bloody ridiculous how unknown the history of sub-saharan africa is in the Western world. All we learned about it in french school was when we colonized that part of the world. It's horrifying. There is so much to learn about besides the horrible things we did. Those empires and cultures were so interesting. I feel like if the world really knew about it, they'd be more respectful of Africa and its greatness.
