As a Zimbabwean and a direct descendant of the House of Gorajena(White vulture) from the ancient Kingdom of Mutapa, I can say I feel happy that the Rozvi Empire was mentioned here. However, the term Rozvi comes from the Shona term Kurozva. The kingdom was called Rozvi not because they just plundered but because of their military prowess! They had never lost a war or battle from waring with local kingdoms to the Brits and Portuguese. They were just a formidable warrior state!
I would've wished that you showed the sizes of all kingdoms. But otherwise a fantasic video.
I wanted to say the same. I guess the problem is that for many of those the size of their empires might not be exactly traceable, and possibly also varied a lot over time.
@@PauxloE That's the case with most social entities before established borders, and even with them it might as well been 50/50. Only recently with countries, for the most part have we gotten it down.
In desert areas the problem is also that teritory itself is meaningless. What the kingdoms and empires controlled there were the known caravan routes, the cities and oases. The teritory around them was huge, empty and not really controlled by anyone. In that sense, you could draw arbitrary circles to delineate these empires.
True he did only Ethiopia but with the same borders as today and that was incorrect one can simply search on internet and see so many maps of Aksumite Kingdom and Later Abyssinia Empire to Ethiopia and how the borders changed. He failed to mention that Ethiopia was a modern Name too and that it never existed under the Solomonic dynasties. so much false information at the last part of the video.

Nowaday, some tribe's member residing in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman and Kuwait.
Aswad al- Ansi (الأسود العنسي) (meaning: Black Man of al Ansi tribe) actually was a name of a leader of al-ansi tribe in the past, he is a self-proclaimed prophet and proclaimed his prophethood toward the end of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad when Muhammad became ill after his final pilgrimage to Mecca. He is also known as Abhala bin Ka'ab (عبهلة بن كعب). Most of Muslim nowaday would known him as a fake prophet as the Quran proclaimed Muhammad as the last prophet in Islam and the revealation of the religion is completed upon Muhammad's death. But if theres one thing he is remember in history, when prophet Muhammad get ill he lead the al-Ansi tribe to invade Najran and most of Yemen. He attack the city of Sana'a and Shahr (ruler of Yemen and son of Badhan) was killed in a battle against Aswad. Aswad married Shahr's widow and declared himself the ruler of Yemen. He changes his title from Prophet of God to Rahman (the Most Merciful). His rule of Yemen however was short-lived. Fayruz al-Daylami, a Persian Muslim and companian of Prophet of Muhammad was sent by Muhammad to put down his rebellion. Aswad was attacked and killed by Fayruz al-Daylami. Learning of the Prophet Muhammad's demise, the follower of Aswad continued their revolt under the leadership of Qais bin Abi Yaghus. I just want to say there have been older kingdoms than the kingdom of ghana. The first recorded king from Axum was around 10BCE and before that there was the Kingdom of Kush in modern day Sudan. And even before that there was the Kingdom of Kerma which was established around 2500 BCE.
I was referring to West Africa. Sorry if I didn't make that clear.
He just meant it was the oldest in the video, since he restricted himself to listing only dynasties that existed in the medieval or modern periods there won't be any that died out before about AD 500. Really great to see this. As a descendant of the Gbelegbuwa I, Oba of Ijebu Ode also known as Awujale it is exciting to see the Yoruba Kingdoms top tier of this count down. Some descrepancies are argued regarding who is Apex whether Oni of Ife or the Oba of Benin and whether Ijebus are fully Yoruba or an ethnic people of their own. Very very interesting stuff
There's no apex. That's an European thing but one thing is for sure. The throne at ife which was the throne oduduwa ruled was respected by all, even after benin grew independent it still maintained ceremonial ties to the ooni(oghonenuhe) as a source of authority. In the 20th century a figure of the ooni of as uncovered underneath the old oba of benin palace.
As for ijebus, I'm one myself specifically ijebu-remo and I can say we're fully yoruba. I mean is it decent from ife in terms of migrations and the monarchies, food, culture, spirituality and even language albeit a dialect but very much intelligible with other dialects so therefore we are a subgroup like manh others.
The sudan links came out of a time when there was hysteria in connecting african kingdoms to North Africa or the middle East and because of politics of superiority the the past awujale published that story and the current one upheld it too. Asides from this there's absolutely no doubt we are yoruba
The narration is actually correct and its right, but the arrangement is not valid, due to not knowing that the Ooni of Ife is actually the direct descendant, palace and the acient crown of Ooni Oduduwa where all other Obas are traced to, including Alake of Egba, Alaafin of Oyo, Alaketu of Ketu, Olupopo of Popo both (today's Benin Republic), Omo N'Oba of Benin (Oranmiyan, the grandson of Oduduwa/son of Ooni Ogun) and Orangun of Ila (who's actually the first child of Oduduwa). Every other Obas are one way or the other the bore child/children by one of wives of Oduduwa or Ogun e.g Oluwo of Iwo is one of Oduduwa's wives, or family migrated from with crown from the palace Uhe/Ule-Ufe or Ile-Ife. Theres no reason to check apex among the Benin and Ooni, its direct understood that Oranmiyan the founder of Benin is son of Ogun and grandchild of Oduduwa. Benin just want to re-write history, by using the methodology of Oduduwa existence as direct from God to Oke Ora in Ife Wara or Otu Ife, before arriving Ile Ife to become the 3rd Ooni (not even the first), that Oduduwa actually came from them in Benin as a prince and then appeared and was made Ooni (thats nonesense). Meanwhile, the 16 families in Oke-Ora from 4 crown family of 16, among the families was next that introduced Oduduwa as 3rd Ooni. These 4 families are Giesi, Lafogido, Oshikola and Ogboru. Ooni Sijuwade was Ogboru line and this current Adeyeye Ojaja II is from Giesi line.

Interesting that you only picked the Alouites from Morocco. Historically I would think Almoravides, then Almohades then Saadines then Alouites. @@nohaylael8335 yea, that was what I thought since that's how I read it, but I'm sure the critics would say you're a pro-royal family that's why.. lol. I guess at the end of the day, everyone to his or her own opinion..lol
Great work! I'm waiting for the Oceanic (Pacif Ocean) dynasties: the three dynasties of Tonga (Tui Tonga, Tui Ha'atakalaua, Tui Kanokupolu), the Royals of Hawaii, the Ali's of Tahiti, the four Ali'i of Samoa (which are unexpectedly occupying the elective office of O Le Ao O Le Mao of Samoa Indipendent State from its establishment in 1962 to nowadays....). A fascinating world
Hello love the video amazing
Oramiyan is the grandson of ODUDUWA himself he was sent to the kingdom of Benin to settle a fight
ODUDUWA was the founder of the kingdom of IFE the OBA of the OYO kingdom and Lagos are all direct dependant of ODUDUWA himself
I am from the Yoruba tribe
Oranyan also founded Oyo
Oduduwa didn't form the kingdom of Lagos, it was the Benin kingdom that established the kingdom of Lagos.
@@ValyrianCode kind of true. Lagos was already inhabited by the Awori people who claim descent from Ife. Benin during their era of warrior kings invaded lagos which at that time was a Geronocratic confederacy and after a series of wars implemented a puppet oba although the elites of the formerly Awori lagos and their red pepper farms were left relatively untouched.
So where did Oduduwa come from? Am sure only the Benin kingdom can answer this not Ife (youroba). Oranmiyan returned to home in Benin not the other way round. This whole story has been greatly twisted by youroba people to grab Lagos. Ife kindom people and especially Benin kingdom will tell you the real Benin empire. How there you write off the Ife kingdom.
@@onekesi1934 where Oduduwa came from seems difficult to answer although maybe somewhere around the Ora hills is a good place to start. As well going off of one sources oral history on a topic is a fools errand no matter where you do it especially in Southwestern Nigeria theirs tons of conflicting oral histories on tons of different stories going off of just Benin kingdoms story when theirs atleast 5 different oral histories on what happened that conflict eachother. I dont know what the Aworis of Lagos have to do with the origin of Oduduwa though. Personally ive seen enough evidence from multiple sources for me to draw doubt on Benin's version of events although all it can ever be is doubt.
Al Moahides Caliphate in Morocco is the bigest in the African history
@Вхламинго
Ottomans is Turkish not African
@Вхламинго
What weed did you smoke??
We are Talking about AFRICAN Kingdoms lol... do you have Brain??
The Ottomans only Ruled in Northen Africa (Except Morocco) but it did do any ifluences in African Culture, about the Europeans, these only stole Resources Nothing else...
Are you from these Turkish Nacionalist or Something??
@Вхламинго
What Arab Kingdoms are you Talking about??
Most Moroccans Dynasties are Amazighs (Moorish)
Go read History before you insult Someones, other wise you Make yourself a Fool lol...
These Vassals were Ruled by TURKS not Africans...

The Zule Dynasty was Small and Tribal but it still Qualifies as one of the Greatest Empires in the World because of Shaka and his War Tactics.
I was just recently thinking that Africa was the continent I know least about and then I see this video was released, perfect timing, out of curiosity, has there been a video focused on the linguistic groupings of African languages on this channel? That'd definitely be worth a watch.
Middle eastern empires based in Africa, Egypt, and Carthage how do you not know much about it??
@@joshruelas8435 Well, it's true, I do know a bit about all of those things, but that is still North Africa focused, compared to my knowledge about Europe, America and Oceania my Africa knowledge dwarfs in comparison due solely to the fact I know little about sub-Saharan cultures!
Very interesting! More African content please!
Morocco 🇲🇦🇲🇦🇲🇦
Very good video once again, thank you so much for it! I may make some changes in the top ten, but I definitely agree with the top three this time.
very nice video, liked it... though 704 years and area of covered were a bit left undiscovered. moreover Abyssinia which means also Ethiopia dates back before 900 which is also queen Saba was the founder for the house of Solomon 9th/10th century until 1974( main lines still exist) but Zagwe,Axum,Gonderign,Tigriegn and other dynasties all come from that point. but i learned alot about other nations history thank you
Thanks for doing African History 🙏🏿
I am surprised nothing from medieval Egypt/North Africa made the list. Fatimid Caliphate is easily in the top three. 4 million squared km area. and it's much more influnical on the world stage.
Fatimids were not African though. These videos are based on the origin of the dynasty, not the land they controlled.
@@UsefulCharts Makes sense, but you should have put that in the criteria so that people won't misunderstand you. However, if you ask for my opinion, I think it is objective as to who is "real" African and that can lead to a lot of uncertainties. Some, for example, say that the Ethiopian Dynasty originated from Yemen and The Alaouites who are on your list are also Middle Easterners and so on. The Fatimids are certainly from the Middle East but they lived for generations in Africa.
Fatimids are also Quraysh since they are descended from Ali and Fatimah. He included the Quraysh in the Asian video.
@@user-hh2is9kg9j one of the few comments on this video that didnt make me facepalm.
@@joshruelas8435 not a very high bar, is it?😅 but seriously I think semantics can really blind people from the abstract reality of things.
Great video and production and I appreciate u gave shoutouts to other history channels
Great video today keep it up your doing amazing job
I mean, it's Ethiopia isn't it? They even have rastapharians worshipping them!
Im subscribing, the bloke derserves support, really enjoying the vids
Why no Egypt? Love the video btw
He said he was restricting himself to medieval and modern history and the only Egyptian dynasty which ruled only in Africa in that period, the Muhammad Ali dynasty, ruled Egypt independently for less than 30 years
I think this was supposed to be mainly about sub sharan Africa
@@Turtle5454 No, style is right. This is about the Medieval and modern. Morocco is in North Africa.
@@Turtle5454 ignorant and idiot .
What is wrong with yo he literally said the period is from middle ages to modern era Egypt was under colonial rule for the past 2000 year so the last Egyptian dynasty was at least 2500 and that is antiquity not midevial so start reading a book before you talk shit.
Excellent video with very original content! Thanks!
Gonna write down that Oduduwa guy for a possible future video. Mythical kings turned divine always have fun stories behind them
Oduduwa is from igodomigodo present day benin city...the kingdom of benin empire Was betrayed
Shouldn't the Egyptian and Nubian dynasties be considered here, or are they too ancient?
Too Ancient
He stated in the video that this list will only consist of dynasties from the medieval and modern periods.
Not the ancient era.
The solomonic dynasty is almost as old as Nubian but was still considered but even then these countries have long been dead and don't really exist any more cause thy didn't have a continuous lineage i.e.egypt has been ruled by Persians, ottomans, berberis, nubians, the British, french(napolean),Greeks, romans and a lot more diffrent Arab nations so it doesn't belong on this list and when it comes to nubia it is not traced to a single point it includes Djiboutii, ethiopians,Eritreans, sudanease,Somalia so it would be odd to trace it easily
Very interesting and worthwhile video.
