Is there anyway you can make a list of the basic tools that you will need to do a mod like you are talking about & then a second list of one's that would make it easier but aren't necessary at the beginning?! When you want to build your own watch at the beginning you are already goingg to have to buy the watch, parts, etc then you will need to get the tools to take apart & rebuild the watch, so it would make it easier to know which tools are necessary & which ones that you can hold off on so it is not as expensive at the beginning or if you just don't have the knack for it & are stuck with all these tool's that are going to go to waste?!
Very logical and sensible advice. And since you are a very experienced and respected mod builder, first time modders would do well to listen to your thoughts.
Working on a watch that has been professionally assembled you see how it should be done and all the parts are compatible. If you buy individual parts they may not go together correctly, something might be missing or (this has happened to me) the movement may be loose in the case and flop around when you try to set the time or wind the watch. It is also good to start with a correctly sized stem which you can copy if needed. Basically modding a watch allows you to copy the work of the experts.
Great video, glad to see some love for the SRPD. I love my SRPD, and I really want to get into modding. A sloped bezel/insert and domed sapphire crystal, and maybe even an orange minute hand. But anyway, great tips. Really enjoy your videos, keep up the great work
Really appreciate your content! I am doing my first mod project…an srpa75k1 into an skx titanium case with custom hands and a custom black yacht master bezel insert. Do you know any good tutorials you can recommend me for taking the watch apart and then putting it back together in the new skx case? Lol TY!
Hi ,.. truly enjoy your videos - I have a Citizen Prodiver BN0151-09L and I was wondering if the parts are interchangeable. I had a bad fall while skating and scratched the glass and bezel. Parts for this watch have been impossible to find. I dont mind getting a different bezel and glass.
Good call on these, if you can find one cheap enough the 7002 is a solid option as well. It's a good watch and can easily be upgraded with an nh35, sapphire etc and parts from the skx can fit it as well.
@@LumeShot never thought of that, might make things a little bit more difficult to find a compatible dial. I must have a got lucky when I found a dial for mine
Hi buddy. My first proper mod was a SNK393 which, when it arrived, was too small, like a ladies' watch. I put it into a dive watch case, modding the hands as the originals were now too small. Now I get an idea of what I want a watch to look like, I source the mov't (usually a NH36), then the case, dial & hands and work from there. It would be interesting to see you work like this on your commissions if possible. Love your vids, especially when your OCD comes out :-)
Would love to buy the Seiko SRPE07, and change either the Chapter Ring or Ceramic Bezel Insert to a lumed one. Can’t find anywhere that would sell mod parts for it
I recently picked up a SRPD51K2 for a really good price, I’m looking to mod this watch but… I want to keep the OEM look. I can’t find currently any 5 sports models that have a blue dial with gold/rose gold hour markers/logos. How hard would it be to remove and replace the current silver hour markers with new OEM ones?
I started with fairly cheap Seiko 5s, 7s26 movements, from India. At the time there were many available at low prices so I wasn't too worried about messing them up. Interestingly the watch in the 3rd picture at the beginning (with the 3 o'clock crown), I've modded 2 of these, they're begging for a hand winding NH35 or 36 movement and a nicer dial and hands. Why Seiko didn't make them with a more interesting dial and hands in the first place I don't know.
I need some help. I want to mod my watch, but I can’t find out if the parts readily available are going to match it. It is an SRPA59K1. Does it have the same dimensions as the SRPD models?
Would like to mod the black and gold Samurai think it's srpb55. Does anybody make a red ar crystal for it? Wanna call it Akuma Samurai also red MM hands and hand painted blood red chapter ring.
How is he so hot tho I literally would've just said buy the islander watch get some cool dial and hands replacement and you're good that's all the modding for those Also..! They're just the seiko skx parts But telling people they're more to a certain watches parts range in what you HAVE to mod is pretty unfair and seems unreasonable with the srpd and I'd rather not support those sprds to tell seiko we don't like their decision
Thank you WatchCrunch for sponsoring this video! www.watchcrunch.com/LumeShot/posts/the-best-seiko-to-mod-for-beginners-7409
Are there plans to transition to an app for watch crunch?
Hello 👋 I was wondering price points for custom mods, I really like that green spiraled seiko mod, do you have a approximation for the cost?

This is cool man! You’re a young dude. I’m 50, so to me you’re young, and in a great position to inspire young dudes. Great topic.

My favorite piece, even though i own swiss ones. There's something truly Epic with the SKX that's Legendary, I can't explain it.

Thanks!
Really good suggestion. They're now really affordable considering the sales on them at the moment
The green seiko mod with the Milgauss seconds hand is so cool
Great work you do. Your an inspiration to us all.
Thanks for the video, very helpful for what I should look for and why!
Great Educational Video...Lume always puts out educational videos..good job Lume !

Brilliant. I'm just getting into modding and have an srpd I'm going to mod

The 7002 has a few quirks... one being that the case is a true 4 oclock crown so most dials wont be compatible as a simple plug and play

Great Channel mate !
Hi. please make the content about the latest tools list that you use in present. Thank you 😁
New subscriber sir from, Philippines😊 i really love to see those watch mod but sad things is, i dont hav a watch 😅
Thank you so much for the video, can these mod watches be used while beach, or diving? Once we mod a watch what is the water resistance?
Absolutely, always pressure test them though!
Are you familiar with the emperor tuna? There are a few with the NH36 and I'm interested if they can be modded with the NH34 to make a GMT?
Is it okay to buy a cheap replica watch and use the case and that movement??
I wouldn't recommend that
@@LumeShot any advice and why not
Can you fit a VH31 movement into Turtle or SKX case? 👍
Do you have a recommendation on what parts to start to mod on a SRDP?
Do you have to remove SRPD bezel to swap the crystal or is it the same as SKX?
Hey i want to start modifying seiko watch, what do i need?? like tools etc and where can i get parts ofcthe watch
Just in time. I'm itching to do my first mod. Where can I buy a real Seiko dial? That is my question.

4:50 What is the jelly wiping the hands?
Where can I buy this?
What watch are you wearing in this vid ?
I am also curious about this one!
I have black srpd79, is IT the watch you rallonge ajout?

More room for me to make them interesting 🙃

Orient Mako's and Ray's are a great watch to start with too.
Might not be as easy to find parts for those
A second hand watch is a good idea.
Can you use a screw down crown with these as I know the srpd does not have a screw down crown ?
Nope, I have a video regarding SRPD / SKX part compatibility so check that out!
Could you press a threaded crown tube into it?
Cool channel
Can i order from you?
Would like to mod the black and gold Samurai think it's srpb55. Does anybody make a red ar crystal for it? Wanna call it Akuma Samurai also red MM hands and hand painted blood red chapter ring.
I could I get ahold of you? I have a Seiko 5 I would like to have modded.
Shoot me an email!
If you are a perfectionist, the old Seiko 5 line is probably a better idea.
How is he so hot tho

Watch it in 1.5x speed. Wastes less of your time.
Removed my comment and replied on watchcrunch instead.
Hey Michael, I haven't deleted any comments so its most likely done on youtube's end. They have a tendency to delete comments for whatever reason.
