Nice idea. Been watching your videos for a lot of years along with a few others. I'm not the best but can do most of the basics, however I just like watching woodworking. So thanks, keep up the good work mate.
Great addition to your Moxon vise. I recently bought your Cosmanized Moxon vise kit. I'd like to incorporate this addition when I build it. I need one dimension though. What is the distance from the top of the vise to the top of the pin board when you have it clamped in the vise? It's probably not crucial, but what do you recommend? From there I can work out the rest of the dimensions.
Nice solution Rob. I will be adding this when I build my Moxon vice. To make it even simpler, instead of the screws on the back to hold the top piece when not in use, use another piano henge to fold the top piece back in the down position. Still use magnets between the 2 upright pieces so the top doesn't try to fold down when in use.
Rob, can you do some dowels or something on the bottom of the moxon vise that line up with the dog holes on your bench so you don't even need the clamps?
So glad you posted this. Thanks much. I purchased the moxon vise last week and immediately found this problem frustrating. Thanks for solving it for us!
Just as an aside. The UA-cam Algorithm really likes it when people hit the like button and leave a comment. So if anyone wants to promote a channel they like then go for it.
I added a heavy shelf on mine, flush with top of the jaws behind the back jaw. The shelf also serves as a platform to chop the dovetails on when covered with a bit of plywood to protect it.
Efficiency is intelligent laziness..... This is good. I have seen your method using the plane and the boards to set height. I had wondered about making a little L thing like what goes on top of the board in this jig to make sure the board in the Moxon vice is plumb and square to use for the old way with the hand plane to set height. If I was to try it by feel, it would most likely be off by a tiny bit always...Yes, I know you can never idiot proof anything because as soon as you do, some one invents a better idiot..... This comes close though.
Well, I have watched your 3 videos on making this, though I only skimmed through the live edition. You have changed it in every video you have done. Are there any finalized plans or video?
Hey Rob, loving the content, as always! Question - have you had any issues with Trend diamond plates being out of flat? I recently purchased one and had to send it back because no matter how long I tried to flatten the back of my chisel, it wasn't working. I took the chisel to my granite stone and flattened it with sandpaper, but when I returned to the Trend plate, it was out of flat again. I'm hesitant to buy another Trend stone now, although their customer service is excellent. Any suggestions for an alternative?
Hello, i ve been wandering for an hundred years why ppl love that "moxon vise" version you Can not do dovetails with. I m please you offert this solution. It takes less room than my moxon vise.
@@liquidrockaquatics3900 In a way it's sort of both. The bottom is fixed to the Moxon vice with a piano hinge while the top part comes off to guide the work into the tool, in this case the vice. So it's sort of a "Jigsture". Hey Rob! Sell 'em... it's the new Rob Cosman Jigsture. LOL.
Rob, while you are really flowing in the shop, what do you do with bits of waste and offcuts, or shavings from your planes? Do you have a bucket to just brush off the waste and keep rolling, or what. Also, what scraps do you personally decide to keep? Do you throw them out or sort them at the end of a project once you don’t need a grain match?
Rob, what size cups and magnets (strength) did you use? This is a great update to the Moxon vice. I have found a great storage idea for sawdust and small pieces of offcut wood. I use small, labeled, glass craft jars with their lids screwed under a shelf near your workstation is not only handy but a significant utilization of empty space.
Good idea. However having it fixed so close to the vise may cause a problem when making a taller chest of drawers. Having the support where it can be slid to the back of the bench for longer chest sides or forward next to the vise to accommodate shorter lengths would solve the problem. I like the idea of magnets also.
HELP!, Rob I need your help. How would I make a flat raised panel cabinet door, shaker-ish, with a small 1/16-3/32" reveal around the panel? Basically a shaker door with the panel flush with the outside face of the frame and a small reveal around the panel. Using hardwood (cherry in this case) for the frame and panels.

Good deal. Much more sophisticated approach than the big block of scrap I've been using with my Moxon.

Very creative with the stick tape!
Not to mention the jig. Nice job.
Very creative ideas. Nice work, Rob!
Thanks
Great information as always.
Classy hinge!
Brilliant
Good show!
Very clever

Another ingenious idea to make cutting dovetails easier. Thank you for sharing! Take care👍🏻

Well it took a little while to come up with a solution since you were first asked about this but it was well worth the wait. Great bit of engineering.
Brilliant! I just finished making one for my moxon vise. I put a strip of cork on the top for extra grip.
So glad you posted this. Thanks much. I purchased the moxon vise last week and immediately found this problem frustrating. Thanks for solving it for us!
Thanx for the idea Rob! Was having that issue this afternoon while cutting dovetails! Definitely going to upgrade my moxon vise !!👍🏻
Great idea Rob, thanks for sharing sir.
Excellent, as always, Rob and will be adding this as well. Thanks very much!
Thank you for a really good idea to add functionality to the Moxon vise.
Pretty genious! His abilities and the things this man comes up with....
Brilliant as always Professor Cos.
Absolutely perfect solution! I've been struggling with various ways to make a support for dovetailing. This is a winner!
Very cool solution.
That's a great idea, Rob~! I will definitely be adding this feature to my "Cosman Moxon Vise". Thanks much~!
Great idea. Thanks, Rob.
Fantastic idea. I love a functional, clever idea that utilizes magnets.
where did you get the magnets & cups? Cant seam to find them...
Nicely done Rob. 🔥
Now you’re getting fancy, Rob!!!👍🏻👍🏻
What a great solution.
Great solution. Thanks
Nice idea. Mine has a small bench behind it similar to Katz Moses. Also added the ability to stand it on it's back so I can clamp pieces horizontally.
A very well-made and informative video. I plan on modifying my Moxon Vice later today.

Awesome idea! I ordered the hardware from you, can't wait to get it! I plan on building my vice into the table
Brilliant idea! Thanks

We stopped selling that for that reason, now have ours made to our specs.
@@RobCosmanWoodworkingI had the same issue. 😡
@chris-C8 I had similar issue with dmt stones, bought a cosman plate a few months back and so far it's been great!

@@RobCosmanWoodworking Thanks Rob! Just purchased it from your site😀
Love it! Man that 5 1/2 been through it!!
Can/will you provide name/link of magnet supplier along with type/size/strength please?
1/2 by 1/8, in a cup and we buy them from Woodcraft.com

WooHoooo A new Cosman video. Always makes my day. So is it a jig? Or a fixture? I say fixture. What say you?
I say a jig. A fixture is “affixed” permanently

What does Rob mean by "cup and magnet?" Those magnets that come with a recess and hole for screws or does he do something different?
What variety of wood is it on the drill press fence?
Figured maple, thought that would get some attention! :)
Wow

offering this as a purchase on the store?
I copied this same idea from Mike Pechovich from Fine Woodworking for use in a regular vice. I dont use a plane on edge anymore.
