Fellow Stangbros, when I bought a 2020 GT, the first thing I did was drop the brand new tranny and buy one from Calimer. I wanted to be able to abuse it and not worry much. 😅
The 18+ D4 does have weak shift forks. But like I said before we went clutch felt a little funky. Improperly disengaging clutch or improper shift timing can tear up a d4 pretty easily
@@MustangLifestyleTV Is it only the 18+? Ive never heard of that until now, the reason i ask is because i plan on either coyote swaping my 3v, or getting a s550, i dont want any shift fork issues.
I’m ngl that’s kinda unlucky, my tranny has held 500+ with a stock clutch. And yes I may have gone three 3 engines but the trans hasn’t took a shit yet
And that is why you can't be paranoid and scared to mod your car just because someone on the internet broke something. Plenty of boosted cars making North of 700 with a stock trans if they have a good clutch and shifter. You also don't wanna over clutch it because it's grabs harder and is harder on the transmission. 😊
@ericanderson3308 people will look at 100 examples and if 5 of them break their trans they say see told ya so they're just looking for an excuse not to mod
@@midnight347 I'm not looking for an excuse. I'm just not doing it... I'm not playing games with my car for an under 50HP improvement... Thats all but do you...
If i could give any advice go with tick performance for your trans, i had my 2013 mt82 go in for stage 3 calimer build and it was pulling teeth anytime i would message them, the trans has held my 700 hp twin turbo but still has its hiccups
Problem with that is you gotta regear it accordingly because those trans are way taller geared even 373 won't be nearly enough. I would get a calimer gen 2 mt82 trans they had alot better gearing that was better for the coyote and it's significantly cheaper than a tremec let alone a tremec and a gear change.
Why are you asking someone else what you should do with your car? If you like manuals more and the car is in good shape do it. The 18 up had shift fork issues the older 17 and back mt82 had better gearing.
@@midnight347 why not, I like someone who has been around more mustangs option. Iv owned a gen2 with a 6 speed and it was fun, but the mt82 can't hold boost well. The 10r80 does lot better, but still needs to be upgraded but at much higher power. I'm a very indecisive person 😂 so I take people who have a lot of experiences options!
Big bummer, I guess it's a MT82 common problem, in most situations should have gone with a auto 10R80 over the manual MT82 for longevity. Still a bummer, broken trans.
2017 and previous MT82 is far stronger. 18 onward are known for snapping forks. Mine runs similar power, 2016, no issues. Peggles run's 9's, stock MT82, it's fine.
@nickadkins7765 they don't hold any more power than an mt82 does. This is a major misconception it's still gonna need to be built for big power. The gt350 trans isn't like the t56 mag and tr6060 it isn't any stronger than the mt82 as far as power handling. People think tremec = can handle more power that isnt the case in this situation. Very common misconception. A calimer mt82 would be way better than a stock gt350 trans.
People can’t drive then blame it on the MT82. That trans isn’t the best. But mfrs beat the hell out of it. Dude had an issue, and kept reving the car… like bruh chill the car is obviously hurt
Yup I agree ☝️ my 2011 boosted mustang is making 831 to the wheels and still on stuck trans with no issues, bout to turn it up into the 900s hopefully it’ll still hold strong 💪🏼 if my shifts are crispy 🙌🏽
This. Then people use this as "proof" you can't mod with a stock trans even though there are countless examples of them holding up at far higher power levels than this.
This guy seems like a decent dude. But damn man, gorilla shifting that mfer. Only a matter of time when you shift like that. I had a ported CJ s197. Shifted at 8200 every time I drove it and never had an issue
They're really not that bad many have held up at much higher power levels...the older mt82 was better than 18 up too plus it had better gearing. I would do a calimer gen 2 trans
Stock master clutch cylinder is garbage. even on a new clutch you won’t have get good action in the shifts. Bad disengagement and strong arming the shifts just beats the crap out of the mt82
This is a gen 3 thing. Many have held up at much higher power levels. The gen 3 had weak shift forks that is exclusive to those. This guy had issued and kept ripping on it asking for trouble. Can't blame the car there.
That's why you can't use exceptions as the rule. Plenty of people make way more power on a stock trans and it's fine. If you can't drive by all means stay with the auto.
No shit that's like a 5000 dollar setup lol. It's rated for 700 tq while the mt82 is rated for like 400 something. Many mt82 hold up at much higher power levels these 18s had shift fork problems the other models didn't have.
@MustangLifestyleTV or you can just forget that and drive the car like a manual is meant to be. If you're gonna let the car drive for you it might as well be an auto.

Exactly What u said!!! Cuz I bang mine an bye bye transmission an clutch 😢
I 100% believe he’s been forcing it in gear without having the clutch fully engaged. Hands quicker than the foot you can see it

Appreciate it!

That was a great shot on the inside of the car while tuning. Don't see that at all. Always cool to see what you see while tuning.

Mt82 strikes again
Did the dyno pulls in 4th? I thought 1:1 was 5th?
Not on 18 up mt82. They changed the gearing on those this is old news.

Crazy running stock clutch and trans on 2016 with procharger and so far lucky. Hopefully my luck don’t run out . I also don’t do no lift shifts.
