- Episode 327 brings back the 632ci Big-block Chevrolet engine that powers Side Chick, my carbon fiber jet boat. The is engine has been temperamental to say the least but I think we have finally turned a corner. With the help of Harrell Engine and Dyno in Mooresville, North Carolina, we have found the problems, upgraded important valvetrain parts and now the engine flat out rips! This video is all about Dyno-testing the engine and getting the carburetors adjusted right so the when the drag boat finally hits the water its ready to race.

OH shit it's Pete! I hear he's real good at doin' stuff!
Same thing I said
9:30 is Majestic
Pete is a ROCKSTAR!
Yeah I have heard that a few times let's freaking go brother 🏁💯🇺🇲
Shreds on that guitar too
Title says no power-adder, but Pete is one of the best power-adders you can get!!!😂
Real good at doing tooning.🎉
Big Facts
BIG Power Pete!!
Pete is a snake?
He has all the "up arrows" lol
Pete is THE MAN!!! fixed the motor and found the leak... he is REAL GOOD and doing STUFF!
Pete is an absolute legend 🤙🏻
#99 jets? Mr. Sam would be proud!
As if there is any other size to use! Always straight to the 99’s.
99's?!?!?!? Hahaha
“ 99!? That’s an 1/8th of an inch!”
I loved this episode and it was great seeing Pete again. I remember a while back you mentioned that you didn't do much boat content because it didn't perform as well on the platform, but I gotta say I really enjoy it and I hope you do more. The Side Chick movie a few years ago was epic
The boat stuff isn’t is popular but I love drag boat racing so I’ll continue to drop stuff about it. :)
@@FinnegansGarage I’m just reminding you again you’d probably love a Cole runner bottom better with a blown BBC. Tons of fun working the pedals.
@@FinnegansGarageHell yes man we are definitely here for it all I absolutely love that you do different projects of all sorts!! We get to learn so much and it's always about horsepower no matter what you're building the motors to put in it's always entertaining to watch keep on keeping on brother love seeing you dropping bangers always!!!
👍👍
I like the boat content also
I built a motor in 2006 with Dart 11 deg big chief heads. All the exhaust rocker bolt holes both the 7/16 and 5/16 ones went into the water jacket. I noticed that when I was putting it together. I put pipe sealer on all the bolts . Never had a problem with them leaking. I would check all your bolt holes or just put sealer on them all as a precaution.
I’m so glad Side Chick will survive a complete drag race weekend now. The amount of stuff wrong with that engine was so great, it’s a wonder you had anything left to FSM-CSI and figure out it needed the magic of Pete!! Great video Mike! You are a great teacher!
A Finnegan video is always interesting whether its a water spring in a bolt hole that goes to a different dimension or having some cylinders fed by a garden hose and another being fed by a fire engine hose. They say you only learn from your mistakes and Finn is teaching us ALOT.
Thanks for watching!
Good Sunday morning, hot coffee, a big block on a dyno, a great start to the day
Yep it's raining here so I can't go out the road and cut donuts 😂
@MVPisME383 Freezing rain here
@@scottgshomewrenching1352 7:45 here and its sunny and 50 degrees :)
With frozen rain, it would make a perfect video so my vote is give it a whirl. lol 😊
I put plumbers putty on all head bolts that go in the water jacket on my race engines! It saves a lot of work and makes it easier to take back apart when you blow the motor!😊
You got the best tuner for the job. Pete Real good at doing stuff.
9:25 Pete's golden hair flows like sunbeams down upon your motor 😍
Finnegan n Pete. Christmas came early. That dyno is about to pop a wheelie.
Pete reminds me of a good friend of my dad’s, Greg. They look like they could be twins, and both are equally smart. Greg was an IT security specialist, and he also played several instruments. He taught me how to play the acoustic guitar and the alto sax. It’s crazy how much these guys resemble each other in both looks and intelligence.
My little boy was making sounds to get Mom's attention but then you guys fire up the first time and he stayed quiet for the whole pull and watch it and listen to it. And happy Holidays
Pete is the most Down to Earth Real Deal bloke ever.
Wish he worked over here in Australia.
Keep being awesome guys
I’m sitting in the hospital with my wife. We just had twin boys and I had to watch my Finnegan’s Garage. I even named one of my sons Michael! I’ve had the honor meeting a few times in a couple of different events, more the most down to earth, humble, and honestly genuine people on the face of the earth.
Congratulations on your twin boys 👶🍼👶🍼
@ thank you
Congrats!
Twin boys? Twin hotrod builds in your future!
Congrats to you and your wife on healthy twin boys
From a twin dad good luck ur gonna need it 😂😂😂
Pete is such a solid engine builder, and his tuning seems to be pretty damn impressive. Most cars he works on or tunes seem to do very very well! HED FTW LOL
I was very fortunate to live within driving distance of Factory Pro Tuning. Marc Salvisberg was a genius with motorcycle engines. I learned a lot from him just by observation. Before making the first pull, he would run roadracing engines at a fast idle until the engine casting temperature (measured with an IR gun at the sump) became stable. About 20 minutes for water pumpers and twice that for vintage motors with air cooling.
Glad you didn't give up on this motor. I've had similar problems back in my day and the frustration is a real deal. Walking away and regrouping always helps. Having great friends with talent never hurts. Definitely can't wait for the next boat video. Congratulations on your success.
P.S. Maybe a new set of heads will make it under the Christmas tree 🎄 this year 🤷.
Pete is the man! Glad he got it sorted out for you👍
Big power Pete !
Attaboy finnegan, we love seein yas out here on the UA-cam hopefully you’re here to stay with these wicked videos and even MOVIES now!
Keep it up finn 💪
Well he's been here for 8 years now so I'd say he's not going anywhere.
More to come!
Getting Pete to look at it was worth every penny for sure .God Bless cant wait to see how the channel turns out now that your full time .
So glad to see this update. Coincidently I just watched all the previous videos on this engine build last week. Keep it cool Finnegan.
Anytime there's a Pete, there is gonna be big power. Cause he's real good at doin stuff. Big Power Pete Harrell 💪
Great episode! I love dyno day! Its your one chance to get everything perfect, no guessing.
Expected the next on the 57' gasser wagon, happily surprised to find out the subject is "Sidechick".... Cool ass boat Finn, I used to pit on a 19' flat w/532ci blown on alcohol. My buddy was an APBA champ for a time #357 D.S.
2 carbed dyno tunes are painful, it will like different numbers in the boat with the scoop on. But good results all round. Well done Big Power Pete Harrell
My dad seemed to be a master at tuning dual carb setups
Big power Pete. I heard he's real good at doing stuff and things
Big Power Pete! 🔥 He's the only Power Adder you need! 😎
I don’t know about you guys but I love watching dyno runs . I’m sure going to miss engine masters 😢 .
Me too. I'll miss Dulcich on both his shows.
All I'm doing watching your videos turning the volume up turning it down turning it up turning it down
Not just me wondering if it's dodgy,... cool.
Same here it’s very annoying and I think it’s because he videos on his phone without a mic.
@@DennisSwanson517 What I'm hearing, is the levels being all over the place, not the source being distorted. And yep, phones and gopro's, whichs are good enough for most things, the Rode and DJI mics people have gotten lately sure do improve it though.
@@PiDsPagePrototypes yes sir I agree. At least the content was good love me some engine dynos
Ya. Finn’s a filmmaker extraordinaire. Don’t care.
ole Big Power Pete, worth the price of admission
appreciate the Dyno cost info.. always learning.
Love the boat content Mike. Always good to see Pete too. I hear that he's real good at doing stuff. Joe has been a great addition to channel too. Hope you all have a great holiday season.
Great seeing Pete,
He’s the horsepower gain no matter what! Man makes power
Pete is the upper crust of our crusty community !!!
Absolutely the best.
Picked up a FSM hoodie and a couple sticker packs for my buddies toolboxes as a Christmas gift to myself and the garages. Hoping the channel continues to do well! Happy Holidays!
thanks for the support!
@@FinnegansGaragesmall contribution but I know where its going and get to watch great content which is cool. Hopefully it helps motivate me to finish a few of my own projects.
Pete’s mane flowing majestically, is all the power added you need!
Great seeing Pete on the job
Engines are expensive but I love your content with Pete. Pete’s the man!!! Btw, my Blasphemi sweatshirt arrived yesterday! Bitchin!
Pete Harrel is the BEST engine builder in the country hands down ! If I ever save enough up he will build me the baddest small block Chevy on this planet ! 418 ci solid roller with the best parts and his knowledge ! Big single carb !
I worked as a racing engine builder on high rpm European engines. A lot of math and simulation goes into those. Valve mass like those big valves is a serious problem. At high rpms the valve bounces on the seat because the seat is too hard. Beryllium-Copper seats help a lot, but they are dangerous to your health. You need a ventilation system and breathing protection, etc to machine them. I worked on Formula engines, running at close to 12k, 15K and 18k rpms.
That's the main reason to go to 4 or 5 valves: to make hp you eventually have to increase the rpm and go to overhead cams, etc. With this architecture, you are limited because of the mass. A one liter stock motorcycle today delivers over 200hp/liter on a showroom bike with catalyst. This engine is over 10 liters, but the gain is not linear.
Harold is real good at doing stuff man that motor had some sketchy shit when he spotted that water I was blown away. That’s why he’s real good at doing shit. Love y’all.
Mike, you should get a handful of lapel mics. The audio here was a bit unbalanced through the video. Some parts where y’all were talking, I had to set my volume way up vs. others. There were parts where I couldn’t hear Pete because he was on the other side of the engine.
Just food for thought.
Mikes old arch nemesis… the valve train 😂. All love brother, that motor is a beast! This motor in the giveaway gasser wagon would make a fun drag week car!
Every video with Pete gets a thumbs up!
Almost prostock numbers without the crazy technology, that's bad ass,
I always knew you were pretty darr good at stuff , now Pete is on the really good at doing stuff train but to be honest yall together ara pretty darn great at doing stuff.
Have a happy New year guys.
Keep the pedal to the floor and rom in the red , just living the dream and im just happy to watch and learn.
So thanks guys
Mike Jones is THE MAN. I have his brother Rick's design software and it is really useful for understanding valve motion and how different engine design parameters affect cam design.
Big power Pete Harrell in the house. Nice
How cool would it have been to have Pete's intro on this video!
I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!
Polishing turds would have fit the bill for this one 😂😂😂
@@ni_wink84 Let's take garbage and make it shine!
My friend picked up his new Engine 2 months ago a 615 cu in Chevy all Aluminum N/A over 1300 hp with a single Carb
that is very impressive.
That's awesome. My buddy has a 429CJ bored and built with some fancy heads that's now 466 cu. in. With one big carb pushing 1200hp n/a in his old Ford mud truck. Thing has 18.5" wide 48" boggers on it. It's rowdy and I seen him smoke all 4 tires on dry pavement like it was nothing lol
I watched the teardown video like 2 days ago thinking it was new and this dropped as I was hoping to see where it went keep up the fantastic work mike
Mike you need to get clip on mics as we can hardly hear when you’re not near the camera. Anyhoo big love from the uk 🇬🇧
The Man, The Myth, The Legend.....Pete Harrell 😎
Petes hair blowing in the wind😂 love it
Great video! Your difficulties help me to learn! Perhaps pressurizing the cooling system and measuring pressure decay after assembly would help... ? I used to pressurize the furnaces I worked on to find leaks, before putting water in it.
Hey man, Pete is the ultimate power adder.
You have a phenomenal customer service team!
Good timing I just watched you pulling it apart yesterday.
If Pete is involved. This old big block is gonna sing!
Mike you and your friends have a awesome show ty and look forward to seeing many more
It's all good Mike, but some of us ARE here for the boat stuff! No doubt about it, Side Chick is hot!!! Love the content but can't wait for another boat race vid!
Pete is THE MAN!! When it come to engine building and turning 😊💪🏽👍🏻🤷
Wow. Great value! Amazing guys. Congrats on the newfound faith in this big baddy engine.
“Big power Pete Harold”!!!!!
He is definitely real good at doing stuff from building engines to making music!!
Watching roadkill on TV and seen this notification pop up on my phone lol. Glad you all are keeping on keeping on!
Oooh snap.. big power Pete with furious finnegan this is sum great stuff 👌🔥💪
I already know Pete got you right! no issues now!
At the start of the video when you said you were done with it, I have been there myself. I was actually so "done with it", that I sold every single piece and part to my engine program. I was so frustrated with so much stuff constantly breaking, and always having to fix stuff, and every time at the race track wondering "what's going to break now?", that I sold everything related to that motor program that I owned. Now, I'm dead in the water. No engine to put in the car, and everything has gotten so expensive, I cant afford to build something to put back in it, let alone the quality of motor I really want. In my case, it was a smart decision, and also a dumb one at the same time.
wish more ppl that make vides would talk about the price of stuff, awesome video by the way n i hope you enjoy the heck out of your boat! best of luck to you!
Prices change too much. Google isn't hard
@ mike finnegan , I just rewashed the forensic teardown of this motor last week and here it is on the dyno, good job 👏
This is such a wonderful commercial for the services of the previous engine companies.
I'm on an Off Shore race boat team and we test in Lake Tarpon, Tarpon Springs Florida. It's a fresh water lake, plenty big without being huge and on the west coast, just northwest of Tampa.
Between Tarpon and Tampa is the town of Tampon 🤣
Great episode glad y’all worked out all the bugs , look forward to seeing you race
I’m really surprised you haven’t gotten rid of those problematic heads and gotten a different set
All these problems blow my mind. At this point it might be easier to get a custom set of heads that just have the cam on the valve, imagine that for an idea.
@@tomstech4390Gotta make content my guy
@@kevinledford8260 Manufactured drama?
I'm so deep into money spent buying the engine that starting over would have taken twice as long and cost twice as much. I figured I'd try one last time to make the heads reliable and after that its Adios MFs.
I hate that feeling of throwing good money after bad. I hope it’s all sorted out. Those heads would be really expensive boat anchors
Once again Pete showing that he is real good at doin stuff
Pete has an amazing attention for details.
What a horse! My 60 F100 with half that would be hillarious on the streets of Melbourne. Best stick with my 302 Windsor. Hope you get some reliability and get another win with T/A.
Wooohooo... boat stuff!! love it! Been missing the drag boat
Well considering thats big power Pete, you damn right it’s going to make some power
People that are good at Doin stuff are my favorite peoples
You know it's going to be a killer video when Pete is on it lol great job everyone
Pete's flow is awesome 👌😎
SFP, Mike! I feel bummed for you about that water leak in the head!😮😞🤬 You have struggled with that motor so much already! I hope Pete can get it fixed, and make it reliable for you guys👍👍👍
Real, real good at doin' stuff!
Pete’s the man, both of y’all educated me ✌️
Just got my sticker packs , red and black FSM hat and the i heart fossil fuels shirt .
Super fast shipping and great quality hat and shirt . Thanks for the great content and sweet merch mike !
Well worth the price, Peter is awesome. When will we see it run?
Nice to see Pete involved.
You better check all the other rocker stand holes because if there is one it's a good chance there are more.
Great vdieo and money well spent. I am looking forward to chapter 2 on this. Many thanks.
Big power Pete Harold. And people are questioning, come on folks
Please make more boat videos when you can. I work on my Jetboat in the winter and it’s definitely positive reinforcement 👍.
Oughta get Pete to write y’all a Finnegan’s Garage tune / music…
Thinkin’ it’s either time for a new pair of heads or have those gone through, either way, by someone way reputable.
Silly stuff like those screwed up / nonstandard plug holes, etc, makes for stuff to screw up and cause bigger problems.
Excellent tech video, who would have thought the rocker stud would an open bolt hole to the bottom of Lake Tahoe? 😆
His title is true. Real Good at Doing Stuff .
Peak Power Pete with the eagle eye! 👏👏👏👏 Good eye Pete! 👏👏👏👏
