one of my all time favorite memories was being a little boy and i was in kindergarten on my birthday, and i really missed my family and didnt want to be at school and suddenly i heard my dad calling to me , he came to pick me up early, and we went home and megaman x2 was on the table, it was brand new at the time. he knew i was crazy about the first one and he saw the second at the store and knew id love it. i freaked out lol. i loved my dad so much, he passed away when i was 6, so i dont have alot of memories of him, but that one always stands out and makes me happy/nostalgic/tearful and everything.....every time i play x2 i always think of him :)
@@renzo_kookin4208 - That is simply amazing! While it’s not a game, I have a similar experience. 3 years ago, my grandfather passed away. At that time, I was just starting to explore some of Johnny Cash’s music beyond the big ones. He was a massive fan of Cash as well. He passed while Ring of Fire was playing on the cassette mixtape I made for him. I was there as well. I couldn’t touch that tape for at least a year. Now, I can listen to that song. But I still tear up everytime I play that song. I miss him dearly, but I treasure the memories I have of him. Time is too damn short. I get where you’re coming from. That was an amazing story!
@@TheRogueMaverick thank you so much for sharing that. i totally understand. i really appreciate hearing from you, and i know your grandfather is proud of you and still with you watching over you every day
@@renzo_kookin4208 that's a really awesome memory to have of a father you lost too early. He clearly loved you if he payed attention of what games you liked.
Btw you get longer explosion cut scenes if you kill the Mavericks with their weakness. Therefore to shorten the boss rush you should use the X buster on the killing blow to shorten their death scene.
Hm.actually,I wouldn't say it's completely false.if you kill Wiresponge with the slicer, his animation really is slightly longer.he literally gets chopped in half.takes a few seconds for the explosion to happen.as far as the other bosses,I never noticed any changes.I've beaten this game hundreds of times. But,then again,I could always still be wrong.
@@Neo_Shadow_X well the devs put that in on sponge as an easter egg, but dino was saying that for ALL mav explosions, and that is not the case, wheel gator's explosion is longer by 2sec due to lag caused by the waves on the water slowing down the snes processor. lots of explosions and moving water is too much for a 16-bit system...
Fun Fact : You can get the Arm Part without the Strike Chain but doing a really precise dash jump. If you want to try it, I suggest doing the jump and just mashing the X button like crazy so you can automatically jump on the wall if you do manage to make it.
It's super hit or miss, and actually this was how I realized that this level will reflect the time of day. I spent so much time trying to make this jump once, that when I finally got it and moved on with the level, it was night time!
This is a fun quirk of the SNES X games. You can use the knowledge on how the wall jump spacing works to reach seemingly unreachable things, and yeah, that arm part is one of those. An easy way to maximise the use of the wall jump spacing is to hug the wall completely and wall jump from it (not a dash wall jump), then when X is furthest away, he should be within 1 or so pixels from being able to catch the wall again from it's furthest point, so just quickly tap forward and wall jump again to barely catch it and maximise your jump distance. That or just line X up so that his toe is touching the wall while standing, then wall jump, whatever works for you in the given situation.
Wheel Gator is my favorite stage of all Megaman games, love the concept of jumping around a giant tank machine stomping trough a city. The boss is annoying tough, yeah.
I actually found an easy way to beat Wheel Gator. Don’t get hit by the wheels and also when he’s standing shooting the blades, watch how they move and then move in a way where you don’t get hit. Basically, study his pattern.
Just wanna say that you've come a long way since the all inclusive X vids, J. I think being "analytical" should be about having genuine reflections with your relationship with media - positive or negative - rather than nitpicking in either case for the sake of thinking you're above what you cover. And it's been great seeing you carve your own reviewer path ahead of that sorta stigma. It's been really fun hearing you cover history, lore and what you find interesting in a game with such natural enthusiasm. And at great consistency lately too! Proud to be a sub, you deserve it.
About the CX4 chip. It's not a chip on the SNES, it's a custom chip made by Capcom integrated into the cartridges. It handles a bunch of unseen tasks, but the most obvious ones are the wireframes like you mentioned, as well as sprite rotation, as you can see with Crystal Snail for example. It was again used in X3 for the same purposes, although I can't recall any blatant sprite rotation in that game, although a different team actually handled that game anyway, so there's that too. Also, the Shoryuken doesn't 1 hit kill like the Hadouken does. It does 8 or 16 health per frame or something weird like that, so it's entirely possible to only graze a boss with it and it still be alive.
Doesn't it handle extra-large sprites (intro stage boss) and extreme screen warping (Wheel Gator boss room liquid, charged Crystal Hunter) as well? I know MMX3 uses some of the former. And the team behind MMX3 also handled all the Game Boy Mega Man (Rockman World) games except for the second one. All the MM games they did have similarly brutal difficulty.
The CX4 was basically Capcom’s version of the Super FX chip to put it in the most basic terms. The Shoryuken needs 3 hits (or frames if you prefer) to kill a boss. The reason for this is that it’s Ken’s 3-hit version of the Shoryuken that was first seen in Super SF II, hence the flames and gigantic horizontal distance traveled.
Fun Fact about this game IT IS THE SAME AGE AS ME literally this game came out when I was born I just feel so connected to this game also CONGRATULATIONS ON 100K SUBS J
While I’m of the belief that Serges is Dr. Wily, it’s also my headcanon that the other two X-Hunters all have voices of Austin Powers villains - Agile is Goldmember and Violen is Fat Bastard. Change my mind.
Give the Zero Project mod a try for the upcoming X3 review(maybe as an addendum). I consider it as a directors cut of X3. 100% playable Zero, Zero also doesn't have just one life. It also takes into account new cutscenes written just for Zero in areas with dialogue.
In response to the end of the video I totally get it. When I first got my 3ds about 5 years ago I played and loved both x2 and x3 on the virtual console. However, after watching reviews about the games over the past couple of years I noticed people didn't enjoy those games as much as x1 like I did. It starting making me second guess my opinions on these games that were so important to me. But after playing through them again I realize that even though opinions are mixed on the games I still love them just as much as I used to.
I'm not sure if you knew or if someone pointed it out, but that hidden passage in bubble crab's stage with that single pickup is one of a couple places you should stand still and use a fully charged silk shot. It'll fill your subtanks in seconds. Thanks for all the great content over the years, J. Hard to believe I've been subscribed for 5 years.
One interesting thing I generally don't see people comment on when reviewing X2 is that if you do collect all of Zero's parts, the "fake" Zero that appears is actually something of a foreshadowing of things to come, since the design is actually the exact same one as his black upgraded body that is unlockable in later games of the series, and it's the only time you get to see a 16 bit version of this design, which I always personally thought was pretty cool
@@jonesthemoblin1400 ...........Maybe so, but I still think it's a cool detail anyways. Also, you forget: it was actually X4 to have a black Zero as playable first, not X5
As for the "negative to sound analytical", that is a phenomenon I've ran into a lot (and been guilty of myself from time to time). It seems like whenever someone shows joy or excitement over something, we tend to view them as "dumber" or "naive", while someone who is a pessimistic cynic is seen as wise and more "real". And I think this is a very pubescent way of looking at things. What I mean by that is that kids usually have no shame in what they love, and they want to share that love with the world, but teens tend to go the opposite direction and define themselves more on their dislikes than their likes. And I think, since being a teen is an awkward metamorphis into being an adult, the first thing a lot of teens do is they reject everything they perceive as childish and go "No. I'm way too mature for that kid's stuff." And, in a (ironically) very childish way, they play pretend to be adult by acting as what they *think* it means to be an adult, which is often a very shallow view, due to lack of experience. And since kids are optimistic and, let's face it, often pretty gullible, adopting a cynical view of the world is the easiest way to distans themselves from that and showing "I'm not a naive kid anymore." Both sides the extremes of the golden ratio, where the true "mature" realistic analyst lies, who can see both the good and the bad in things. Because, as Stephen Colbert put it; "Cynicism masquerades as wisdom, but it is the farthest thing from it." And all the greatest and most successful coaches knows that you need to focus on the positive; "This works. You did good there. That was a great throw/punch/whatever." Because knowing that we learn and improve incentivises us to continue. Yes, it is important to recognise the flaws in the things we love, and you can learn a lot from failure. But, if you analyse it correctly, you can learn a lot from what works as well. One of the bests advice I ever got is this quote from the late, great Bruce Lee: "Take what works, discard what doesn't, add what's uniquely your own." Anyone in a creative field, or in sports, or life in general, can benefit from that outlook. Also, the whole "negative critique is seen as more refined" this is not a new phenomenon. Voltaire makes fun of it in his novel Candide from 1759 with the character Signor Pococurante, who owns a large library, a gallery of art and a beautiful garden, but can't enjoy any of it because he only sees the flaws. So yeah, he is perceived as wise. But his life is incredibly dull because he can't enjoy anything. I'm very glad you realised that as well. There is too much bad stuff in the world as it is, and we shouldn't turn a blind eye to it. But let us also celebrate what we love and share that joy with the rest of humanity. And I thank you for doing that. Cheers!
I wouldn't call it the fault of actual pubescence so much as conservative adults overly shielding their young children from transgressive media while themselves scoffing at entertainment with kid appeal because they see kids, and thus entertainment for kids, as necessarily unsophisticated, resulting in kids being confused and/or antsy to enjoy the "good" stuff. Also, growing up is often associated with being realistic, and thus that gets conflated with real world-styled entertainment that kids are assumed to find "boring" for being mundane. And many tend to focus on the negative not just to balance out the positive, but to ensure that things faltering isn't overlooked as they ought to be at at least a certain minimum level of quality overall to be acceptable, thus negative thinking is valued more than positive thinking by those people while others consider them crazies losing sleep over trivialities. But, yes, there's no shame in enjoying stuff "appealing outside of your age" as long as it's not for actual bad reasons, and you need to identify the negative to know where to improve, but also the positive to know what to sustain.
In Megaman X4, you should try getting the Arm Parts without backtracking with destroying cannons, then come back to the left, it will spawn, use invincibility, and get up as fast as possible.
I'm surprised and curious to see why you changed your opinion on X2, that's gonna be interesting Edit: Congratulations by hitting 100k, you deserve it because you really improved, and it's great to see you're being more positive in your videos, you are awesome Fun fact: if you don't damage this boss (10:20) his cocoon will keep getting bigger and bigger until he also emerges from the cocoon, I don't see how this strategy can be practical, but I think it's a neat detail
I remember watching the old videos, not long after they came out. I liked them, I watched all of them, but after a while, something wasn't sitting right with me. It's really validating, stumbling on this channel again, and finding you expressing exactly what was bothering me about them back then. I'm glad to subscribe.
Congrats at 100k J you truly deserved it. If I'm sure x2 and x3 were the first mega man x games I've ever played and probably the first mega man game I remember playing. I actually prefer this one over x1 for a lot of small reasons like starting off with the dash and the overall greater scope of the game and even though the power ups seem to be less powerful I find this games power ups to have more utility like using the strike chain to get the arm upgrades or using power ups to affect the weather in wire sponges stage. Also the magnet mine and sonic slicer are also really good weapons. This game ROCKS!
J, the comment at 28:00 is so powerful and inspiring. A problem with a lot of social media companies is that they reward people for being angrier than they usually are, and you just rose out of that pit with that comment. Thank you for your wisdom.
X2 has always been my favorite in the series in spite of its minimal flaws, so I’ve never understood why so many reviews have been either neutral or negative. I’m glad that this video exists. It just goes to show that just because something is in the shadow of what came before, that doesn’t mean it should be seen as inferior by default.
Impact and originality get rewarded more than objective quality. It's why the original versions of Metroid and Metroid II got a lot of love even though they objectively suck and are now obsoleted by their remakes and why so many Sonic fans wrongly prefer the entries with 2s in their names to their corresponding predecessors and followups. Unless the 2 game in question is Rivals 2, which IS superior to Rivals 1.
I actually knew about the overdrive ostrich thing about losing his wings because it was in the x2 manga series, with an added bonus that storm eagle was his commander and he fights x to avenge his death in x1
respect for admitting your faults about raging for the sake of raging. That style of reviews were all the rage back in the day and it's understandable why you were that way as well and it's great to see you reflect on how much you've changed since then
High quality shitpost at the end. But damn, it's really telling I haven't watched your old stuff in a long time because I can barely remember much beyond you saying ZX Advent sucked and getting a lot of heat for it, even to this day. Even forgot the whole "A Crack In Time isn't long enough by my standards" thing. Still, it's great that you've grown out of being super nitpicky even with games you love, because that kind of thing is pretty cringe ngl.
Yeah, this new style of reviews is what made subscribe to this channel again. After the whole ZX fiasco I didn't want to be around here no more, and I'm glad that J improved a lot.
I agree with this comment 100%. It's amazing that he stopped being super nit-picky with the games he loves to play so much, because as you say, it is very cringe.
Not sure when i started watching, but it has been a good while. Honestly, i loved witnessing your growth! You've given me hours and hours of entertainment! Feels like listen to genuine reviews of stuff i grew up with. Not something scripted for views, but just giving out your two cents. And people change dude, remaking these reviews adds more of yourself! Which is why i think all of us are here for haha
I love X2, but I always felt it was a bit rushed, the final level is just Magna Centipede again, with the first level song, and the soundtrack, while still great, is not nearly as good as X1. Most the songs are much shorter in length, and the second castle music is my least favorite castle song in the series. X1 and X4 are my faves, with X2 in 3rd place, and X6 is a broken piece of trash but I love it, with all its flaws.
Zero died for your sins. X2 is underrated and better than X4! The X-Hunters, the first Zero fight in the series, dual buster shots, a kickass intro stage. It's perfect... 🥰 So what if they recycled that lame Magna Centipede level, and if the music is A+ instead of S+??? In X1, the final level with Sigma, is literally just a short climb up to the boss. And Vile is unbeatable in his ride armor, what a fun boss, am I right? X2 doesn't hold your hand and give you a farming station to heal your subtanks on the last level.. No, you get gude and work hard for that victory, like Zero said you would. 😎
@@smashmaster521 Painstakingly.. Also with multiple tries, because those Nightmare enemies will not stop coming until you not only kill them, but take their nightmare orbs. After that, you are free to keep trying and dying to get over those spikes, without the worry of Nightmare enemies returning and hitting you while your ducking down, and dying to the crushers. It's hard, but not as hard as the first castle boss, The Morher Box.. with no armor or heart upgrades, that boss is a true Nightmare. Over 5 hours I spent, trying to kill it as X with no upgrades of any kind. (except Jumper)
I liked the final level because that was the base where the X-Hunters were watching X in the beginning...but geographically speaking it doesn't make sense because it's in a totally different location than the North Pole. I'm really not sure how they reconciled that. And X2's intro music is amazing, love that they reused it. Pure hype.
The reason for the short songs in MMX2 is because they're actually really melodical and has a lot of feelings. The songs with longer length tend to be the repetitive ones and making MMX2's music repeptitive would just make it sound like it loops unless you add another chorus or verse to which would make it sound too long as if its a song but it's supposed to be a video game music
While I still kinda prefer X1 more just for being standard, X2 is an darn amazing sequel and one of my favorites of the Mega Man franchise. I don't replay it nearly as often as I do with X1 or X4. But it certainly live up to expectations to let me replay it enough.
I've been waiting for this! My favorite Mega Man X game! This game managed to fix all the issues I had with the first one: -Being able to quickly farm my sub-tanks with the Silk Shot charged shot in some hidden spots. -More versatility on item collection (did you know that you can get ALL the heart and sub-tanks WITHOUT a single armor part?), being able to get all the armor parts in ANY order and you're no longer forced to get them (I hated that in X1!). -More explosive set-pieces. -And more balanced (albeit a bit slow) bosses. Seriously, people tend to overlook these improvements and focus only in the inferior aspects (I rarely use the special weapons in the Mega Man games so I really don't care and music is a more subject topic). Capcom really wanted to improve and streamline the sequel and, in my opinion, they succeded, unlike Mega Man 2.
For those wondering how to get the Magna Centipede Sub Tank without the Arm Part: you have to hoof it to the area just before the ST so you can destroy a purple block fast enough for another block to not hit it and keep going off the edge you usually jump from to reach the ST shaft. Being on that block then will let you catch the shaft with a dash jump+Strike Chain if necessary.
Ive watched all of your previous mega man x vids and enjoyed them. The fact that you can make such long ass videos and keep me engaged the entire time just shows how good of a job your doing bro. Keep up the great content and congrats on hitting 100k.
While I generally love the X series, when looking back on all of the games, I think that X2 may be my favorite. I loved the inclusion of optional bosses to fight to get Zero's parts back, how certain stages had grinding rooms, the air dash, the Morph Moth Battle, Overdrive Ostrich theme (one of my favorites, I could listen to it while on a brisk walk).....it was also one night in a Toys R Us when I was introduced to the full Mega Man series by playing through Flame Stag's stage on a Kiosk, something I would never forget. I felt like the other X games, I played (X1 - X6 and Xtreme 1 and 2), had sticking points that this one didn't have too, just a wonderful entry.
Just a comment regarding Capcom not crediting their workers. Head hunting was a huge thing in the 90s for video games. Artists, composers, programmer, all of them were highly sought after. This is why in most Capcom SNES games, if there are credits, they are made up names. You'll notice this as a trend in most SNES titles that came from Japan. These companies valued their workers, and the work they performed. It might seem sketchy or shady, but contrast it to Epic, EA, Ubisoft, Blizzard (companies that view their devs as expendable), and so on, and it makes sense. They wanted to keep their workers, because they knew the work would be exceptional if they kept the teams they had.
Yo that secret area mentioned at 13:50 isn't just a health drop. Charged up the silk shot weapon and it'll fill the area with health capsules instead of trash. Makes filling sub tanks super quick and easy.
@@blazikenkj The developers of Dread, MercurySteam, has a policy of not crediting anyone who works on a game for less than a quarter of the game's development cycle, which is very stupid and arbitrary.
Yooooo, you finally reached 100k subs mate! Been watching this channel for a while (I think around the time you and Exo did the Mega Man & Bass review I think), and experienced the original X Retrospective, the DCAU reviews, and even the ZX Advent review. It's just great to see you continue to grow as a content creator and perfecting your craft. Thanks for all the entertainment you've brought to me. You deserve this milestone for sure.
That was a really cool transition right there. The only special weapon you'll need the lawn mower 4.0 from manscape lolol. I know totally not Mark had a cool transition with one of his drawing videos but dear God this takes the cake
I love X2 so much because of the zero backtracking. But once you learn and master the Neon Jump, that opens so many cool tricks like getting the Moth heart without the Crystal Hunter or getting the Shoryuken from underneath (aka the cool way). Also, if Moth's Larval Form absorbs enough trash (it takes a couple minutes), it will get huge and then break on his own. And the charged Magnet Mine can get huge if you absorb enough enemies and keep the MM with you the whole time. Just so many fun, unnecessary things. This was another great re-review.
Ok, normally I would skip through sponsor segments, but that transition from the special weapons to the sponsor segment was just so good that I felt like I had to watch through out of respect for that segue. Good stuff.
@8:09 holy crap. I'm 32, been playing this game since the 90s, and have always backtracked to this stage to use the boomerang cutter on that heart tank!
Speaking of the explosions, it’s weird how X’s death animation is the exact same as the original Megaman and all the classic Robot masters in all the 6 2D games, but the Mavericks instead have those long and slow explosions.
I mean, it's effective, and imagine how painfully annoying it would be to wait 50 seconds for X to explode EVERY. SINGLE. TIME you die, anything longer than near-instantaneous would be too much for such cases.
The bosses dying that way instead of the classic way reminds you that this is a more serious Mega Man era. You're literally a killer. Even more so than in the classic era when Mega Man was conflicted enough about fighting other robots. Now his more advanced self/counterpart is confirmed to be taking actual lives.
Dude we need a top 10 video from you please. I gotta know the amount of megaman videos in them lolol Love the last part at the end with the voices of the Mavericks lolol. Congrats on 100k, well deserved
bro THANK YOU!! It's almost like you saw one of my comments regarding X2 on another video or something because we literally had the same sentiments. In almost every other X game, X starts off kinda weak and timid and works his way up to being badass by the end of the game. X2 he was badass from the very beginning. Not just the motorcycle intro, but another of my favorite parts is how the x-hunters are watching him on screen and are like yeah this guy's a problem, acknowledging how strong and dangerous X is instead of taking the typical villain route and underestimating him. X2 is also my favorite of the series. It has a certain charm to it that X3 just didn't have
Regarding what you said about Capcom not crediting the developers - this is actually something Atari was also very obnoxious about. They made a point that their games were "property of the company" and actively tried to dissociate the art from the artist. They also generally had a policy against making sequels, though that wasn't always strictly followed. There are GDC talks (I think the Paperboy one is relevant?) where some of the actual original developers were able to come forward and discuss their contributions & decisionmaking while designing and programming those games.
That's actually a result of copyright law changing at the behest of the largest publishers out there in America. Midway, EA, Activision, and many others have similar issues with the developers being said to be 'workers for hire' which prevent expanding on characters they create for who they work for. Until copyright law changes (hint: Disney won't allow it) we won't get better developer input or fan made sequels that improve on the games legally.
IIRC, one of the reasons that they didn’t like crediting people was that they wanted to keep their competitors from poaching their best staff. By not crediting developers, competitors wouldn’t know who to entice away from Capcom. However, I can’t be 100% sure about that as it was basically just a rumor when I heard it.
@@Xenobears That's actually a labor dispute issue. Since publishers didn't want to pay developers more, they kept pay a secret. Without unions and such, this practice affected gaming by weakening developers in bargaining power. But poaching does occur such as the head of the Yakuza franchise moving to Tencent because they offered more money and possibly less stress.
I was here for the X2 content but your talk by the end of the video made me want to root for you further, my friend. Keep up the content creation. We live and learn and I look forward to more of your vids
this game is amazing for casual players as well as for speed runners, this is by far the most technical megaman X game and the gameplay experience depends on the player skills
Great review & thank you for the strats. I didn’t realize that you could still do the boss order so long as you beat the respective X Hunter if they’re there.
@13:50 That is a secret area. If you stand in that cave where you find the health orb and charge the silk shot, youll draw in a giant stash of health. There are a few areas in the game where you can do this. Theyre anti grinding zones for filling up your e tanks.
Something you mentioned in your last video on this topic was frustration in having to do half of Magna Centipede's stage again for the final level. Issues with reusing another stage as the final stage aside, I wanted to point out the X-Hunters needed a place to monitor X from their base, and the chairs and "crystal ball" in Magna Centipede's stage were the facsimile. That's the impression the game gave me, anyway. Cheers for the retrospective!
I introduced the majority of my friends to the X series back in the 90s. The shock & awe in their demeanor was priceless. I remember searching every corner of every stage for all the items. Writing passwords and crossing my fingers I could unlock Zero somehow. X3 let you choose him but he was way too fragile to risk playing for very long.
I quite like spin wheel and slicer actually, the former is a great path clearer and the latter is good at hitting through twisting passages. The thing I really like about X2’s weapons though is that they have niche but handy use cases-charged slicer for example can be used to kill the wall-closing robots before they even start
I am really glad you've changed your attitude and approach to making videos to where you're actually being yourself and giving your honest feelings and opinions on games. Rather than trying to be so critical and analytical to the point it's really forced. I do still like your older Mega Man videos but it was sometimes kind of hard to watch when you say you love a game a lot but then be so overly critical on the smallest details it genuinely made me question if you even liked the game. I'm glad your be yourself in your newer videos now. I can really feel the love and passion you have for these games this time! Also congratulations on getting over 100K subscribers J!
I always wondered if I was blinded by nostalgia for loving all megaman games because I was lucky enough to be born in the 80's and rented them as they came out. But this is great to hear you played them in 2015 and loved them. There is hope for future gamers hahaha
You know, I subscribed during your MGS Retrospective and did notice a slightly negative direction you would have in some of your videos before hand. With that said, I always thought your love of the games was obvious, just from your willingness to go back and play through what you and an entire generation of people would consider timeless classics. You’re killing the game now J. keep on rocking Congrats on 100K!
in the hidden area with the health drop in bubble crab's stage you can charge morph moth's weapon and it will attract a ton of big health drops, making it perfect for sub tank refilling, there's a similar room in crystal snail's stage
Your comment about about your attitude to making these videos as opposed to the older videos is great. It's great hearing about your love for these games, and also feel the whole angry reviewer thing is played out at this point. AVGN still is great, but even he has changed how he behaves, doesn't just kinda rage out as much. Not explaining what I mean that we'll, but really enjoyed the vid anyway. Im getting kinda old and games like this on the SNES were my childhood games back in the 90s, and I never get tired of hearing about them. Good stuff.
Glad to hear you've mellowed out and become more comfortable with yourself. You're being you rather than the persona you feel you have to be because "that's how UA-cam works". Good on you. :)
I think it's very common online for people to find it easier to be negative than positive when taking about media especially. Good for you for overcoming that! I enjoyed this video a lot.
I've only ever played the first 4 mega Man x games, and I think the 2nd one is my favorite, not sure exactly why, but it's just really fun, and I really like the music in this game.
I personally find X2 tied for my favorite X game behind X4. I definitely prefer it over the first game. The bosses with their weaknesses are still pushovers.
11:14 Funny you said that, because one of those kids who helped creating two Robot Masters in the Classic Series (Dust Man and Crystal Man) was none other than Yusuke Murata. Who is now known for being the official artist for the One Punch Man manga.

Btw you get longer explosion cut scenes if you kill the Mavericks with their weakness. Therefore to shorten the boss rush you should use the X buster on the killing blow to shorten their death scene.
Holy shit is that really true. I never would've noticed. How many x games is this true for?
that is completely false.
@@Justincredible83 ah,ok.yeh,that definitely makes sense.
But in this series aren't they all the 'X' button
Wait, the dash jump ISN'T the intended way to get the arm part!?!?
It's multi pixel perfect, it's so exact, it's possible but unless you're speed running it's probably not worth the effort.
Wheel Gator is my favorite stage of all Megaman games, love the concept of jumping around a giant tank machine stomping trough a city. The boss is annoying tough, yeah.
I love how fast-paced the stage feels. It flows so well, you don't even need that much skill in order to just tear through the whole place.
the music is a certified underrated banger, I went to a party once with a boombox and played it on full blast, complete jam.
I also love how the stage sky goes from daylight to evening the longer you're in it. Love the attention to detail lol
That was actually shown in this video, where Flame Stag survived with around half his health.
@@CarbonRollerCaco It probably does handle those things, yes.

Give the Zero Project mod a try for the upcoming X3 review(maybe as an addendum).
I consider it as a directors cut of X3. 100% playable Zero, Zero also doesn't have just one life. It also takes into account new cutscenes written just for Zero in areas with dialogue.
He actually loves and played Zero Project already. He covered it in his original review of X3.
Hey you hit 100k congrats J you deserve it 😁
Well done. You have grown and become as strong as Zero hoped you would. 👍
I'd say it's less foreshadowing and more of a reference. I doubt Capcom was planning X5 to have an upgrade to Zero back in the X2 days.
@@jonesthemoblin1400 ...........Maybe so, but I still think it's a cool detail anyways. Also, you forget: it was actually X4 to have a black Zero as playable first, not X5
@@matthewkuscienko4616 Yeah but black Zero wasn't an upgrade in X4, just a palette swap. It wasn't until X5 that black Zero became an upgrade.
@@loregasmic That's true, but I wasn't talking about it specifically being an upgrade for him in my last comment
I'm way too mature for that kid's stuff."
And, in a (ironically) very childish way, they play pretend to be adult by acting as what they *think* it means to be an adult, which is often a very shallow view, due to lack of experience.
And since kids are optimistic and, let's face it, often pretty gullible, adopting a cynical view of the world is the easiest way to distans themselves from that and showing "I'm not a naive kid anymore."
Both sides the extremes of the golden ratio, where the true "mature" realistic analyst lies, who can see both the good and the bad in things.
Because, as Stephen Colbert put it; "Cynicism masquerades as wisdom, but it is the farthest thing from it."
And all the greatest and most successful coaches knows that you need to focus on the positive; "This works.

OMG congrats on 100K 🎉🍾🎈 2 days ago you were at 99k
Congrats on 100k!
If you love X6, tell me; how do you beat Metal Shark Player's stage as Zero?
Perfect video to watch in class when bored
17:21 Capcom felt that this song was so good, they should re-use it MMX 6
Ironically, Bubble Crab's stage music was so good they decided to reuse it in X5 for Duff McWhalen's stage.
I've been waiting for this! My favorite Mega Man X game!
This game managed to fix all the issues I had with the first one:
-Being able to quickly farm my sub-tanks with the Silk Shot charged shot in some hidden spots.
Your a monster
lmao the Bubble Crab short is perfect
Ive watched all of your previous mega man x vids and enjoyed them. The fact that you can make such long ass videos and keep me engaged the entire time just shows how good of a job your doing bro. Keep up the great content and congrats on hitting 100k.
29:57 - This is Art. XD
INCREDIBLE SWITCH TO THE SPONSOR LMAOOOO
I usually skip them but this time it was so good I couldn't skip it, you won lmaoo
The first time an ad placement has ever got me out of all the videos I've watched over the years. Flawlessly done sir
Yo that secret area mentioned at 13:50 isn't just a health drop. Charged up the silk shot weapon and it'll fill the area with health capsules instead of trash. Makes filling sub tanks super quick and easy.
11:35 hits kinda funny after what happened with Metroid Dread credits
What hapened
@@blazikenkj The developers of Dread, MercurySteam, has a policy of not crediting anyone who works on a game for less than a quarter of the game's development cycle, which is very stupid and arbitrary.
Yooooo, you finally reached 100k subs mate! It's just great to see you continue to grow as a content creator and perfecting your craft. Thanks for all the entertainment you've brought to me. You deserve this milestone for sure.
The opening cutscene after you hit start in X2 is my favorite opening to any action game.
Yeah, what's even weirder is that this death animation also carries over to the Zero and ZX series
It might be because X is technically a robot master, so he dies like the robot masters. Meanwhile the X Bosses are reploids, so they die differently.
Dude we need a top 10 video from you please. I gotta know the amount of megaman videos in them lolol
Love the last part at the end with the voices of the Mavericks lolol.
It has a certain charm to it that X3 just didn't have
Other than Maverick Hunter X, X2 is my favorite in the series. I wish we had a Maverick Hunter X2.
Congrats on reaching 100K. You really have improved so much since those older reviews and this video proves it.
Happy 100K J Reviews
Congrats on 100k subs dude! You deserve it!

Pokedex entry 1023: Burntotheground: the burning pokémon. It burns stuff to the ground with it's burning fire.
Congrats on reaching 100k my dude great video

Yeah... please don't do that again, have mercy.
Congrats on 100k
I always wondered if I was blinded by nostalgia for loving all megaman games because I was lucky enough to be born in the 80's and rented them as they came out. But this is great to hear you played them in 2015 and loved them. There is hope for future gamers hahaha
You know, I subscribed during your MGS Retrospective and did notice a slightly negative direction you would have in some of your videos before hand. With that said, I always thought your love of the games was obvious, just from your willingness to go back and play through what you and an entire generation of people would consider timeless classics. You’re killing the game now J. keep on rocking
Congrats on 100K!
in the hidden area with the health drop in bubble crab's stage you can charge morph moth's weapon and it will attract a ton of big health drops, making it perfect for sub tank refilling, there's a similar room in crystal snail's stage
31:10 Best moment in the video. Hands down. Made me laugh so hard. 😂😂😂😂
Was just wondering when this video was coming out.

Protip: While you're on the ground or ascending, the boomerang curves up. It only curves down when you're descending.

You can get there with a regular wall dash jump too, but it's very tricky and also probably not even intended.
I personally find X2 tied for my favorite X game behind X4. I definitely prefer it over the first game. The bosses with their weaknesses are still pushovers.

Funny you said that, because one of those kids who helped creating two Robot Masters in the Classic Series (Dust Man and Crystal Man) was none other than Yusuke Murata. Who is now known for being the official artist for the One Punch Man manga.

Dangit now I gotta listen to the X2 ost again. Brb
You absolutely blew my mind with the no backtracking order and how to get the stuff.
Your self-awareness at the end was super refreshing. Loved it
