So...Shax's biggest dream is to take the most historically important piece of tech ever discovered, and also one of the most incredibly unstable, and just yeet it out the back of a ship at something. Man, Shax is a man of simple pleasures.
I feel like the dream of ejecting the warp core is one shared by a lot of people, especially security specialists, in starfleet. It's the "Do-or-Die" move in ship tactics, so whoever does it and lives to tell about is automatically a legend in the fleet.
UnIronically the most trek moment, Like season 2, even tho the crew is amid an impending doom, they're still optimistic and show some level of professionalism till the end.
As professional it is to just stand there and collectively chant your teary-eyed commanding officer's name... Made me pretty happy seeing him so eager though, just- don't see why the engineer can't do that alone?

Warp speed is analogous to running as fast as you can on a mat being pulled along underneath you. So, losing your warp core mid-warp is pretty much having the rug pulled out from under your ship.

Mariner's often said Kirk is her hero, but she missed one crucial element about Kirk's success that we viewers didn't miss: Kirk never truly went in alone b/c he had an all-star team at his back (mainly Bones and Spock). Picard was a bit more aloof, as he didn't really have the same "starting lineup" to fall back on that Kirk did, but even he would quickly assemble the senior staff in his ready room when things got tough. IMHO, the only true "maverick" captains were Sisko and Janeway, though even Janeway did her best to adhere close to Starfleet regs when pulling her stunts. Sisko was more of a renegade due to the extreme circumstances he was facing: another potential war between Cardassia and the Federation (courtesy of Eddington and the Maquis), a war with the Dominion that threatened to swallow up the entire Alpha Quadrant, and a millennia-long battle between two powerful celestial beings, with him being stuck smack dab in the middle.
I feel that's actually a positive. Those twenty-something-episode seasons tend to meander, and have a lot of filler. Shorter seasons keeps it tight, making it easier to focus on good stories. They're also much more bingable, which is the common way they are watched now.

Damn a lot of the visuals here where amazing. The Sovereign coming out of warp, the lighting, the ships at warm reminiscent of the rainbowish effects of TOS, the warp core sexily slipping down the ejection chute. the Cerritos slipping out of the warp bubble. So everything.
Seems to me that a captain concerned with the security of their ship should be listening to their security chief a bit more, no? Although he does suggest ejecting their own warp core or targeting someone else's warp core pretty frequently.
This was funny but actually extremely heart warming. The whole damn crew cheering him on the whole way to do the one he always dreamed to do. Shaxs experienced his best moment here. He will.never forget it.
I spent this whole episode pissed off at Boimler for upsetting Shaxs. Then, at the last minute, he pulls this out of his hat and I have to be all *sigh* "FINE. I guess we'll let you off the hook this one time, Bradward. Don't pull this shit again though..."
It reminded me how Worf always gets dismissed on the Enterprise. Turns out, all he needed was a brash Ensign willing to point out when it was time to listen to the Chief of Security.
What you see in this scene is something that's never been depicted before. There are safety systems built into Starfleet ships to safely drop them out of warp, in case of a failure in the warp drive. Otherwise, the only result of a stunt like this would be a debris field a couple of light-years across.
One thing I appreciate is that while Freeman is incredulous, Ransom is just slightly surprised but already listening. Like, Ransom already has faith in this Ensign, so he's going to assume he has a good idea if he's talking up like that

Well EVE Online also got warp drives but they are only used within the system. To get to another system stargates, jump drives, wormholes or filaments is needed

This is actually the SECOND warp core ejection on Lower Decks. Rutherford also ejected the mini warp core on his Cerritos ship model last season.

Well EVE Online also got warp drives but they are only used within the system. To get to another system stargates, jump drives, wormholes or filaments is needed

I think this is the onky time you see the core drop in engineering. Every other time it cuts straight to an outside shot after the command

afaik I know they only ejected it once. The other time it was gone was because it got stolen
@@Synthonym no there were other times. Mainly due to something messing with the core.
and they tachnically had a back up that was never mentioned.
@@matthewkreps3352 Yeah, but it was a warp 5 core according to what little info we have on it(It's in the Voyager tech sheets), which means getting home would now take several thousand years.
