helpful video. On an 08 e60 528i, the clearance to snake the video feed into the trunk is very difficult. It was hard to see what technique you used because a coat hanger diameter much smaller than the yellow RCA fitting. I think it might be helpful to zero in on this step as it is in a tight space with little light and visibility and could frustrate the DIY community. What I found helpful was to use a coat hanger and bend a small loop at the end inside the cabin and pinch the a black RCA wire loop so the wire itself and not the RCA yellow fitting is easily pulled through into the trunk. I will link some photos if possible for the DIY community to follow this method.
You guys really know what you doing, that is a sick upgrade that makes the car way more modern than it already is. I’m from MA area lmk if y’all tryna get paid helping me with some mods I’m trying to do for my car.
Hello Evan, Nice video on how you can install a back up camera on your 2008 BMW 5 series. I’m really happy you were able to install a backup camera on your BMW like how every car has it today in this generation. Backup camera wasn’t there in cars back in 2008. Anyway, I do drive a 2008 BMW 528i 6-speed manual transmission with a clutch pedal. It drives very nice. I do have a backup camera on my car but it’s a portable solar Bluetooth backup camera bought from Costco. Although that camera is still very useful. But the screen is hooked on the vent with a clip. The backup camera is not on the main screen. So the camera doesn’t work on the reverse gear. The camera turns on as soon as you start the vehicle or you wave a hand in front of the screen to make it stay on. The camera stays on for a minute. I would love to install the backup camera how you did on your car but to me it seems a little complicated if I were to do it all alone. What I mean is removing parts from the trunk all the way to the front of the car as well as making sure the wire is covered and tucked inside. I’m little bit capable of doing that but I am also afraid I might mess something up. I’m not a mechanic myself. I would rather have you supervise me while I install the backup camera like how you did on your BMW. But hey great job on installing your backup camera. You will be a good mechanic for electrical stuff on cars someday buddy. Take care😊
Hey man, it really looks harder then it is. Especially taking off panels is mostly very easy because BMW uses "their" plastic ribbits a lot for them. They are really easy to remove and the wiring is very easy too (also for people with very little electrical knowledge) and if you are still uncomfortable, there are plenty of guides on the internet (with really good pictures). You can for sure do it alone (just don't stress yourself, do it on a weekend, take your time), but you can also ask a friend to help you. You can't really do something wrong with all the info available. :)
Are you sure there isn't a place to plug this in, in the trunk? You shouldn't need a new head unit. Factory head unit is able to run the camera. And all the relative modules are in the trunk. Program it in, with protool, and done.
Hello thanks for the tutorial.. I have my 535 2010 question I need to buy a new radio or...I can use my oem radio (without camera) I will appreciate your answer
When you turn the wheel and the camera lines turn with it.... is that a function of the camera itself or is it part of the CIC and would would do the same with other reverse cameras?
are you sure with your setup that the cam really does not get power the whole time? usually it gets its power from the rear light (when rear gear is in), but you did not use power from backwards light.
Should work on manual transmission. I think you need to run the "reverse signal" wire tho (because there is no way the unit knows your in reverse I guess).
@@EvanGoyuk thanks again, will try that and see if it works. According to the manufacturer, powers needs to come from the reverse light, otherwise the camera could overheat by having constant power feeding it.
@@EvanGoyuk Thanks for the fast reply friend! I will buy the camera first, thinking about buying a new unit when some more time passes, just got my e60 for a week. Great tutorial, subbed!
There is a retrofit kit for the X5. So i think thats the only thing you could use (you probably need to diy the camera to the trunk) with the original system. From what i know tho, it is expensive and ofc coding is required.

Finally a well explained tutorial! Thanks!

Does a 2007 530xi Head unit have video input plug?
Hello thanks for the tutorial..
I have my 535 2010 question I need to buy a new radio or...I can use my oem radio (without camera)

Really good video 🇬🇧
Hello ,
Plz can you make us a video on how to install a turbo timer on the e46 plz .
Thank you
Great demonstration...
Great job 💯
When you turn the wheel and the camera lines turn with it.... is that a function of the camera itself or is it part of the CIC and would would do the same with other reverse cameras?
Part of the CIC/CCC.
My aftermarket display shows the moving lines, and I haven't put in my camera yet.
It's just a black screen with the lines.
Will this work for my 2010 BMW 528i that doesn’t have a backup camera originally?
are you sure with your setup that the cam really does not get power the whole time? usually it gets its power from the rear light (when rear gear is in), but you did not use power from backwards light.
work on camera focus otherwise thanks great tutorial
Dope!
This will work for my 2006 e60 M5?
Yes
Does this AVINUSA unit work for both front parking and backup cameras? Thanks
can i install in e60 2004?
Does it work on manual transmission? Mine is e60 2004
Should work on manual transmission. I think you need to run the "reverse signal" wire tho (because there is no way the unit knows your in reverse I guess).
What would the reverse signal wire connect to?
How's the sound quality on the unit btw? People used to complain about that in the past.
Sound quality is pretty good
hi. Can I have the link or site when I can get the camera? thanks
got it
How does it get to move with the wheel, is that with a special head unit or additional module?
The android headunit has it
Hi, thanks for the video. Quick question about the live red wire, where did you guys grab the power from?
There’s a wire that comes off the radio labeled for reverse camera
@@EvanGoyuk thanks for your prompt reply. I meant in the trunk. Did you guys tap for power into the reverse light at all?
I don’t believe so I think just ground and power comes from the front
@@EvanGoyuk thanks again, will try that and see if it works. According to the manufacturer, powers needs to come from the reverse light, otherwise the camera could overheat by having constant power feeding it.
@@1973rhidalgo Did it work?
Does this work with the original Idrive system or do I need to buy an Avin system to make the camera work?

I am sorry I mis read your question, you need the Avin system for the backup camera to work
@@EvanGoyuk No problem, thanks for letting me know tho, almost bought it haha. Do you know a camera that works on the original BMW system?
