- I hope this works! Part 2, of our Chassis Stiffening project AKA "Frame Brace" kit from Summit Racing. This playlist will be unique, because I'm going to attempt to install this system, without removing the body from the frame. It should give you some ideas, especially if you have an A-Body, B-Body, G-Body, Tri-Five Chevy, or a C10, or any other muscle car that has a "body on frame" architecture. I also get to play with some new tools... a Plasma Cutter and a new MIG Welder, from YesWelder!
This video, "Part 2 of 4, Chassis Stiffening/Frame Bracing Install with Body ON! A-Body, G-Body, C10" we're at the point of no return. As soon as I weld in the front Boxed In section, I can no longer rely on the stock transmission brace, hence the point of NO RETURN. Hope this works!

You are having waaaaaay too much fun with that plasma cutter! Amazing content, as usual.
Ha! Yes, yes I am... might need a plasma cutting support group after I'm done. Thanks for the comment!
Just talked myself out of this brace kit last fall, but now that you've shown the way keeping the body on you've kinda killed all my excuses lol. Thanks Mike
Ha! Too freakin funny... glad I could inspire. Just be prepared for a TON of work. But, the results are awesome! Keep us posted!
I love that plasma cutter!
Ha! Me too! Very addicting. Thanks John!
Nice fabrication Mike, great job, nice and clean!
Thanks Daniel! Hope all is well...
Mike, the other thing you might have tried (at 9:01 of video, re: center part of frame rail - bring the new plate half in behind that structural piece you cut 1/2 out. If you could slide the box section behind the plate, you could use the holes in the original ‘69 frame to rosette weld each half of your gusset plates. Then add weld beads where they overlap at each outer edge. Just visualized that as I got to this part. 😊👍
I love the train of thought. Unfortunately, those existing holes are not on the same plane as the new side plates, almost a half-inch away. It would be difficult to slide the angled side plate in there too... not a lot of room. Again, love the input!
Nice job! I was really looking to learn about the driver's side. This was perfect!
Ha! Thanks Paul!
Great job Mike
Thanks! Much appreciated!
Man it's coming along. I love this project. Great content Mike!
Thanks Brother!
Nice work buddy!
Thanks Roddy!
Actually I think I'd prefer to do it as you have with the full weight on all 4 wheels. Can't wait to see how it rides . Ps. Don't forget to weigh it 🙂
Ha! Thanks Roy! Yep, I weighed it... I'll be discussing that in the last video. (The FINAL Install) Thanks!
Nice !
Ummm, thanks Terry? But, I thought you said you weren't following me anymore? Welcome back. :)
Great video Mike, I to am a POR 15 fan but I have not used the accelerator yet so it’s great to hear it worked not sure if it is important to you but I might have measured the thinner and added it to the paint can’s to help remove all the paint just because it is so expensive or maybe I am just cheap Ha I can’t wait for the next video . Thanks as always ✌️
Thanks John! Interesting idea about getting the last of it out of the can... I might just implement that, next time. Thanks again!
@@FastMonty can’t wait to hear how your bad ass GTO handle’s after the frame stiffening is completed . Hears a thought maybe if you have enough spare time you should start a car club for Pontiac’s ,maybe Monty’s Ponty’s
@@johnkennedy8452 Me too! You mean the FMG Club? You're one of the first members! ha, ha... Thanks John!
Good thing those welds are under the car.
LMAO... for sure! Less grinding for me. Ha, ha...
There is always one guy. At least hes trying get a life!
@@morlandbroussard let's not simp for grown men that can take a joke.
Your on a DIY channel talking trash about someone work that's never done it before. That's some "Simp" stuff. Post some of your work
@@morlandbroussard I don't have time to take actual videos but I'd be more than happy to send you pictures of some of my work through email.
Hi Mike, great job on the install, it turned out great! I have one question, as I know you mentioned how you had to relearn how to drive the car in a later video. Can you please do a video of how the car feels to you on the road? I did see that you did a torsional measurement, but is there a big difference in feel or just a minor one?
Good question Brad... I honestly can't explain the difference, but yes, night and day. Kind of like going from a Cadillac ride to a Corvette, if that makes sense? It just reacts differently to imperfections in the road, etc... Sorry, like I said, really hard to explain. :)
@Fast Monty's Garage
Mike, Thanks for the quick response and explanation, I understand what you mean. I love the Pontiac videos! Your channel has been a great motivation for me on my 64 GTO restoration journey and also very informative at the same time! Keep up the awesome work!!! 👍
@@bradw309 Welcome! Thanks for being a part of the FMG family, and leaving awesome comments. See ya!
Hire someone to come weld for you - cost you a couple hundred bucks. again, butchering a great car
If I can do it, anyone can. That's the point of the channel... it's fine.
You are just butchering everything you touch with that plasma cutter - NOT what it is designed for nor is a sawzall that you keep mentioning. Not to mention you are lucky you didn't burn that car up - again NOT what the plasma is designed for
Yeah, I got addicted to Plasma cutting. lol agreed that a cut off wheel is the way to go. Thanks!
Great job Mike
Thanks Bill!
