  • Welcome to Reactionize, where we're on a quest to react and review every single Def Leppard studio track ever recorded, including some live recordings, b-sides, and other rarities. So step inside, walk this way, and get ready for Reactionzie!
Take what you like if you like what you see! In 2022, Def Leppard released Diamond Star Halos, quite possibly their most diverse album to date, but one song in particular felt like it could have easily landed any Def Leppard album since their debut album in 1980. That track is the Rick Savage penned, 'Take What You Want'. Originally written as an acoustic tune, 'Take What You Want' became an anthemic rocker built to be played live.
Are you a fan of Def Leppard's 'Take What You Want"? Comment and let us know your thoughts.
Cheers, enjoy Reactionize, and as always...ROCK ON!

Agreed, such a pleasant surprise, especially for the old-school Lep fans who have been clamoring for a return to their early sound. Ironically, Savage wrote it to be acoustic 🤣 Cheers!

Sav wrote the 2 best songs on DSH! This song absolutely smokes. 🔥🔥Has a Rock Rock vibe intro. The riff is something Steve Clark would be proud of. Just a fantastic song, they need to do more of this.

Due to family issues, I have missed your earlier reviews so I have a lot of catching up to do. I have always liked Sav's take on the music. He still has that rock sensibility along with the ability to write ballads. When interviewed, I always noticed a key word from Sav was "melodic." Sav was the principal writer of Hysteria too. When I first heard Take What You Want, I was so excited because it represented a return to rock roots with sophistication even though I did not know who wrote it.
I watched several interviews with Pete Woodroffe who produced four Def Leppard albums. ua-cam.com/video/hzLuzk3HdT0/v-deo.html Link is to the first interview.
In one of the interviews, he praised about Sav's work ethic and his innate knowledge of music. Joe once said about Sav is that he did not talk much but when he did, he was usually right.

First and foremost, I wish you well. Thanks for watching and for the insightful comments. Sav definitely is the silent leader of the group. I read that Joe and Phil can often disagree and Sav often steps in as the peacekeeper. Where Joe is the engine, Sav has the map of where to go. I love his writing style. Each of them brings something different to the table which is what makes them so much better as a collective unit. All the best, and hope you're enjoying the series! Cheers!

@@2TEN90 I love this assessment. "Joe is the engine. Sav has the map of where to go." Dynamics in a group are very important to its cohesion and success. Both Joe and Sav call each other their best mate. That is the glue behind over 45 years of success..

I'll be honest, I never pegged Viv as a lifer for Leppard when he joined, especially with his pedigree and the bands he played in prior, but 30-plus years later, he's been here twice as long as Clark was in the band. I wish he would get involved in the writing a bit more, almost non-existent on Halos. He's so talented and can really take a solo to the next level. Cheers!

@@2TEN90 This! Sometimes I feel as though Viv is coasting with Def Leppard while he pours his talents into his other projects. I was hoping he would add another dimension to the group through song writing.

Another killer tune...can't wait to get to it! Has a 'Photograph' vibe and a big chorus; the perfect recipe for a classic Lep tune! Cheers!
