I have this same generator. And let me tell you, this is a MONSTER. Several people have asked me where did I find something that big and portable. I've had mine just under a year. Only had to use it once or twice for power outages from storms in the Louisiana area. It runs MY WHOLE HOME! No complaints from me. Well worth the money.
Very nice. I have the 9000 series. At first, I was concerned about it not being able to run my heat pump but then I discovered I could install a soft start unit on my heat pump. It not only extends compressor life, but it also makes it possible for my 9000 peak watt generator to start it up. Once it's running, it only pulls 15A. The issue for us is winter outages when it gets down into the 20's. There's no way for it to run the heat pump with auxiliary heat strips on. Those heat strips alone pull 40/50Amps. So for emergency heat, I use a Kerosene heater and the generator can run pretty much everything else.
The one we had before was a 9000, and it was a reliable little beast. We just needed more wattage to run our central A/C and other high demand things. I would highly recommend it!
The max wattage the 14-50R plug can support is 12000 watt continuous (240 volts times 50 amps=12000) and this generator is rated for 18000 watts, 27000 peak. That will make connecting directly to a breaker box challenging as will need to run the 14-50R and 14-30R plugs at the same time to a sub-panel then to the main breaker panel. Not sure if that meets code however. It will run most houses easily however. 5% or less noise is good. Needs to support tri-fuel.
I want to get the Westinghouse 28kW surge/20kW running generator and already decided I'll be doing that exact same thing. Two cords to a sub panel, then have that feed a 100A breaker in the main panel and put an interlock kit on it. I'll eventually get a whole house generator, then use the Westinghouse as a backup in case the whole house generator fails.
The 14-50 is rated at 50 amps though so how are you going to use it to run every single thing in the house without tripping the breaker is the question. I have the Westinghouse 20000(28000 peak) it has two 14-50Rs. The only way to use the full power of the generator, if needed, is somehow run it in parallel. Maybe two transfer switches? Let me know what you figured out with your setup.
When the electrician wired the transfer switch, it has a 60 amp breaker installed. The generator has a 75 amp breaker and by not using everything at the same time, we are able to manage the power throughout the home. It worked great during Hurricane Milton!
It is louder, but not annoyingly so. Kind of like a truck vs. a car. I don’t have the actual dB rating, but it would run outside and we would be inside with doors closed and A/C on so I don’t think it’s much of an issue. I used to have a much smaller Coleman that you could hear all over the neighborhood and this is much quieter.
This thing right here is built tough. I trust powerhorse for many reasons and one of them is durability. So don’t get a Westinghouse or Duromax they’re more complicated and will break something lol

We actually haven’t had it running everything in the house yet, so it’s hard to say. We had a Powerhorse before and it was a great generator. We got this one specifically to run our central air conditioning and some other things in the event of a hurricane here in Florida.
Good Lord, how big is your house? I have a 5500-watt portable that kept my refrig and freezer running and fans going after Jeanne and Francis used my house for a bullseye.. A $100 window AC unit kept the bedroom cool for sleeping. The only thing I did not run was the dryer and house AC. All else worked okay with some power management. Heat the water, take quick shower and turn heater off. Used about 15 gallons of gas per day. 27,000 watts would run my block.
We wanted to be able to run the house AC. We utilize power management for everything else (hot water, well pump, microwave, etc.) We didn’t have plans to do laundry while on generator. We also cooked outside for our neighbors on the propane grill. It is a but better to have it in reserve!
17 gal for 8 hrs is 51 gal for 24 hrs. WTF man! Where will you get all that gas. As for your old gen...Why are you using a 25amp breaker. Should be 30 Amps. To try and heat water (4500 watts) and use the well pump too is crazy. Heat your water with only the Bare essentials on, then turn off the hw breaker and turn on the well. Or better yet, get a battery gen to run the well and charge it with the original gen. The 27000 watt gen is ridiculous. Go ahead and get an automatic whole house gen. We were out of power for 10 days when Michael came thru in 2018. $4.00 x 51 x 10= $2100 in gas. The economics are insane. Get a solar setup with batteries and a modest gen to charge the batteries if absolutely necessary. You obviously have more money than you know what to do with.
I didn’t realize it was so obvious. The generator does not run at full capacity all of the time. We manage the power loads by shedding whatever is not necessary thereby conserving some fuel. The water is only heated in the evening so we can take showers and then it’s turned back off. The well pump is supplied with 220 V power but it’s used intermittently. We have a refrigerator and freezer in the kitchen and a secondary freezer in the garage which we keep running. We usually don’t do laundry during a hurricane so we’re not using the washer or dryer. I selected this size generator to be able to run the air conditioning for health reasons. The original set up was sized incorrectly after we were given bad advice by an electrician. I considered a whole house generator with an automatic transfer switch, but we are not able to bury a propane tank in the yard. We have lots of gas cans that are filled up before a storm to keep the generator running, if need be. We have a smaller generator that can keep the refrigerator and freezer running if we elect not to use the big one. I drive a used pickup truck with a quarter of a million miles on it so I didn’t feel guilty about buying a big generator to keep my house comfortable during an emergency. My neighbors sheltered in my house with their infant during Ian so that made me feel good as well. I’m comfortable with my decision. If we end up using it during a storm I will calculate the actual fuel used and post the numbers for those that have an interest. It’s cheaper to leave and get a hotel elsewhere but my wife and I are “Essential Employees” and don’t have a choice, so we splurged on a big generator to stay comfortable. Hopefully we won’t need it.
We have not had an occasion to use it other than monthly testing. Hopefully the hurricanes stay away this year. I’ll be sure to post an update once we actually use it.
This size gen should only be bought by people living next to a gas station!, maybe with a direct pipeline to the generator. Definitely not for the average homeowner.

How was the noise on the new generator compared to the old one? That is like 2-3 times as much power, so I'm just curious how that is on sound.

We actually have not used it yet! The hurricanes keep passing us by. But I like knowing that I can power the neighborhood!

4.25 gallons of gas per hour 🤣🤣🤣 Absolutely useless.
It ran much longer than that at full load. When you are out of power in a hurricane however, it’s worth its weight in gold.

I have the same generator. My advice, move it every 6 months or the tires will flat spot from the weight.
