i was talking to my ''friend'' about bands, i told her to look up bowling for soup, the next day she came up to me and said '' why do you like them, they're not even hot?'' i was just like well i love this band not because they're ''hot'' but because they make me laugh and just feel amazing when i listen to them. I no longer like the person who said that...
I'm sorry but you can hate on me if you want. I actually find One Direction's music to kinda suck. Maybe its just me, but I find there songs to be annoying.
Every time I listen to this, I can't help but this of the time I told my ex that it was BJ week and she didn't understand, so I told her it meant Bon Jovi, and she asked what Bon Jovi had to do with her period. XD Makes me laugh every time.
Lmao she was super innocent. I was hanging out at a friend's place, and she was supposed to come to mine later. I texted her and asked if she was coming over later and she said "yeah, but we can't have sex". I responded "Oh, is it BJ week?". She replied "What's a BJ?". I showed it to my friend and he said "My god. Tell her it means Bon Jovi." so I did and she responded "What does Bon Jovi have to do with my period?" XD
I used to listen to this back in the 60s... Brings back memories. A Message to Future Generations, Don't let this song die. It's November 2021, let's see how many legends are listening to this masterpiece
quem está aqui ouvindo porque lembrou do mini cd da coca cola curti ai. tempo bom e o tempo esta passando rapido hoje eu tenho 32 anos eu era criança juntava as tampinhas pra ter esses cds rs
60s and 70s really take the cake, honestly. If you made me pick between those two, I'll take the 60s. Beatles, Stones, Doors, Jefferson Airplane, the Dead, Hendrix, Joplin, Dylan, Iron Butterfly, and so many more. I realize some of those bands carried on past the 60's, but I refer to their early work.
Bowling For Soup never meant to say that they play punk rock in this song. The video just talk about some guys that are being "punked" and ask for help saying:"Can someone please save us from punk rock 101?" and stop. C'mon guys don't be stupid, you all know that BFS play pop punk.
It kind of seemed like they were stereotyping punk rock bands and just bands in general, not claiming that they produce punk rock-type music. Music is about being yourself and expressing who you are. It's not about what you wear or what hair style you have, and that's what I think they're trying to get across here. Music these days is more superficial than expressive (some prime examples being scene kids listening to punk-core or screamo bands; if a "scene" or "emo" person wants to jam out to some pop, let them). Bands are defined by labels, not music, and I think that's precisely what Bowling for Soup is fed up with. It shouldn't matter what genre the band is under, or what genre they're considered (if they're not signed to a record label), as long as you like them. :3 But that's just my opinion, don't mind me~
I know it sounds more like pop but it is technically rock. Also you're right they are simply making the point that most artists today just use a template for whatever type of music they are making.
Zack Lemerond oh, well thank you for letting me know. :3 also thank you for agreeing with me and taking time out of your day to reply to my comment~ ^w^
No you don't. The point of the song is how bad Punk has gotten with people thinking it's something that can be taught. It's an attitude, not a fashion.
Major Denial the point is actually how genres take themselves too seriously. This band has made an artform out of poking fun at pop culture, including their own music genre for 20 years now. See the song "I'm Gay" if you need more evidence.
What happen to good music on the radio? Back then like the early 2000s maybe lots of good music were being made at that time now music on the radio is just the same pop music and love songs and shit like that
Well, you see, what came before you is dumb and old hat, a remnant of a bygone age that should stay gone. That which is newer than you happens to be terrifying and concerning, not something that should be so wholeheartedly accepted by the world at large.
it all dumb down. kids that are born after the millennial generation are dumber than millennials. they like mubble rap because they do want to learn to play an instrument or learn to write lyrics that make sense.
It's literally not punk if you're A) being taught what to do or B) conforming to a higher system... This song is making fun of people like you who want to conform to a nonconformist movement

HR TheFlameBladesWielder Yeah, I think that they're Punk Rock, but if I had just said Punk Rock, I'm sure a bunch of people would've flipped their shits and I'm not in the mood to argue with people over music xD
Synthica:) I don't know, I can somewhat agree with Avril, but not really with FOB. FOB is without a doubt Pop Punk. Centuries is, Novocain is, The Pheonix is, The Mighty Fall is, American Beauty/American Psycho is, Uma Thurman arguably is, and those are just a few off of the top of my head. Either way, I'm talking in their primes.
I mean I'm kinda in the middle because I love Bowling For Soup and Marianas Trench, but if you listen to the lyrics of both songs, this one is more about the label "punk rock" and pop 101 is more about how to write a basic pop song. Both songs are great in my opinion, but like I said, I may not be one to judge.
oh my god more trenchers :D and yeah i was thinking about this too when i listened to them and saw the scene where they both point at chalkboards that say "pop music 101" and "punk rock 101". Wonder if this song was Josh's inspiration possibly?
Why do people obsess so much over punk sub-genres, like street punk, pop punk, hardcore punk. Sure they sound a little different but they all have the same roots... Bowling For Soup probably wouldn't be here if it wasn't for The Sex Pistols or The Ramones. This is just my opinion.
Punk as a lifestyle means do what makes you happy and fuck what anyone thinks about it! And if you claim to be punk then you shouldn't care if this is punk or not!
This is as punk as you can possibly get - in the sense that they were a part of a new wave of very self referential punk in the early 2000's that happened to gain mainstream success because it was so fresh at the time. Yeah this style may seem corny or even maybe trendy now ? But this band DOES deserve respect and punk credibility, whatever that even is lol in my opinion. They spoke the truth and self criticized and broke down the punk image and label while also representing it, which to me is very punk. This point in pop punk sorta owed some of its popularity to the parallel wave of self awareness happening in the media, and in films and television in general - see Austin Powers, Shrek, etc. it was a time to reflect on the enormity of one's own pop culture, and it all kinda stemmed from the rising popularity of the internet as well. And these guys weren't the first to criticize pop culture, but to criticize their own culture while most punk bands were mostly criticizing the government and the war (obviously those bands were necessary too) felt pretty fresh at the time. Just my take on this band lol I grew up with them and love them, so I'm inherently biased also.
This isn't making fun of 90's Punk Rock (Like Bad Religion, NOFX, Frenzal Rhomb and Early Blink-182, Green Day, and Offspring) But 00's Pop Punk fans who think fashion is what makes you punk. the line 'He Listens To Emo, But Fat Mikes His 'Hero' ' (Fat Mike being the lead vocalist of NOFX and owner of Fat Wreck Chords) states the wannabe 'Punk Rockers'
Where is this pawn shop where I can trade in a skateboard for a drum kit?!
Yeah, why go buy a $1000 drum kit when you can just buy a $100 skateboard and go get a used one! [Note: I have no clue how much a real skateboard costs, I've never really been into that stuff.]
+Zachary Volt a good board usually will cost $160+ so your not to far off
+Zachary Volt I got my skateboard for 160$ but I bought all the parts separately but you can get a decent complete one for like 80$
I traded a bike that was given to me for a skateboard..now just to find where to trade for a drum kit...

Man, gold NHL 2004 memories :)
The Bon Jovi line never gets old.
"Did you just say that?"
The vocal melody in the chorus of most of their songs is veryyyy similar if not the same. I love it!
this is back when music vids were freaking awesome

I know right?
Tbh I just found it because of this post. But it's great
Yeah.
Check out more of BFS's work.

Good times. Never gets old
She works at hot topic
His heart microscopic
She thinks that its love but to him its sex
He listens to emo but fat mike's his hero
His bank account's zero
What comes next?
Same song different chorus
It's stupid, contagious
To be broke and famous
Can someone please save us from punk rock 101
My Dickies your sweatbands
My spiked hair, your new vans
Let's throw up our rock hands for punk rock 101
She bought him a skateboard, a rail slide, his knee tore
He traded it for drums at the local pawn shop
She left him for staring at girls and not caring
When she cried because she thought Bon Jovi broke up
Same song second chorus
It's stupid, contagious
To be broke and famous
Can someone please save us from punk rock 101
My Dickies your sweatbands
My spiked hair, your new vans
Let's throw up our rock hands for punk rock 101
Don't forget to delay...on the very last word
Seven years later he works as a waiter
She married a trucker and he's never there
The story never changes, just the names and faces
Like Tommy and Gina they're living on a prayer
Did you just say that?
I just said
It's stupid, contagious (same song different chorus)
To be broke and famous (same song different chorus)
Can someone please save us from punk rock 101
My Dickies your sweatbands
My spiked hair, your new Vans
Let's shoplift some sweatbands for punk rock 101
Essa foi a primeira música que escutei deles, depois disso virei fã 😅.

i was talking to my ''friend'' about bands, i told her to look up bowling for soup, the next day she came up to me and said '' why do you like them, they're not even hot?'' i was just like well i love this band not because they're ''hot'' but because they make me laugh and just feel amazing when i listen to them. I no longer like the person who said that...
So this girls logic is that every band has to be a fucking copy of One (wrong) Direction
What a lode of bull 3 of them are hot
@@tommy25185 even if they weren't, they actually make good music unlike most singers
Daniel Holowaty BTSM seems to be the modern equivalent
I'm sorry but you can hate on me if you want. I actually find One Direction's music to kinda suck. Maybe its just me, but I find there songs to be annoying.
I never thought I would cry back punk rock.
But listening to hip-hop and pop music today I wish this shit would come from the radio...
Every time I listen to this, I can't help but this of the time I told my ex that it was BJ week and she didn't understand, so I told her it meant Bon Jovi, and she asked what Bon Jovi had to do with her period. XD
Makes me laugh every time.
Lmao but were you really trying to hint at a bj but had the backup with it actually being bon jovi week?
Lmao she was super innocent.
I was hanging out at a friend's place, and she was supposed to come to mine later. I texted her and asked if she was coming over later and she said "yeah, but we can't have sex". I responded "Oh, is it BJ week?". She replied "What's a BJ?". I showed it to my friend and he said "My god. Tell her it means Bon Jovi." so I did and she responded "What does Bon Jovi have to do with my period?"
XD
What happened to Billy Joel?d
You mean Billie Joe 😉
+Cody Skeels Good point, but I mean Billy Joel too 😋
I used to listen to this back in the 60s... Brings back memories. A Message to Future Generations, Don't let this song die. It's November 2021, let's see how many legends are listening to this masterpiece
I knew this song back in the 30s! And its still one of the best songs ever made! 🤘🏻🤙🏻

Amo ♥♥♥ essa banda tinha que vim fazer pelo menos um show no brasil :(
I've always loved how he explains the flow of the song in the song 🤣
I cant believe this song is over 10 years old already! :o
about to be 20 years old
This song makes me sad because this is the best period of rock. Not hating on new rock, although new pop sucks
+ThePupster:3 No. I think the 70s was the best period for rock.
60s and 70s really take the cake, honestly. If you made me pick between those two, I'll take the 60s. Beatles, Stones, Doors, Jefferson Airplane, the Dead, Hendrix, Joplin, Dylan, Iron Butterfly, and so many more.
I realize some of those bands carried on past the 60's, but I refer to their early work.
hey kagami
+ThePupster:3_Undertale maybe you meant to say pop rock, pop punk, or alternative rock.
+Maxwell Ya, sorry :)
Bowling For Soup never meant to say that they play punk rock in this song. The video just talk about some guys that are being "punked" and ask for help saying:"Can someone please save us from punk rock 101?" and stop.
C'mon guys don't be stupid, you all know that BFS play pop punk.
"never meant"
ok i'll leave
These guys are amazing, like their music they’ve got some great tunes.
Ill always love this song
But that's just my opinion, don't mind me~
I know it sounds more like pop but it is technically rock. Also you're right they are simply making the point that most artists today just use a template for whatever type of music they are making.
Well said
its called hardcore not screamo
Can we thrust this comment into everyones face when they start listening to this song so we can get past the "THEY"RE NOT REALLY PUNK" comments ~_~
Zack Lemerond
oh, well thank you for letting me know. :3
also thank you for agreeing with me and taking time out of your day to reply to my comment~ ^w^
i wish punk rock 101 was a real class!
Shado is part of the problem...
shado sake I don’t. Punks about doing your own thing. Not a lesson plan
@@HowDoIMakeAUsername ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ty
Just saw you guys today in London! Awesome show!!!
They wrote this song when teenage me walked the earth, not knowing that 15 years later it would become adult me’s anthem.
What happen to good music on the radio? Back then like the early 2000s maybe lots of good music were being made at that time now music on the radio is just the same pop music and love songs and shit like that
That same music is still being made its just not on the radio anymore. Its called pop punk, look it up.
Grizzly Bear don't compare this to pop-punk
Well, you see, what came before you is dumb and old hat, a remnant of a bygone age that should stay gone. That which is newer than you happens to be terrifying and concerning, not something that should be so wholeheartedly accepted by the world at large.
magicalpancake64 There was a lot of bad music on the radio in the early 2000s.
it all dumb down. kids that are born after the millennial generation are dumber than millennials. they like mubble rap because they do want to learn to play an instrument or learn to write lyrics that make sense.
2019 and is my favorite music
good skating tunes in my teen years, so thankful for bfs

It's literally not punk if you're A) being taught what to do or B) conforming to a higher system...
This song is making fun of people like you who want to conform to a nonconformist movement
20 years ago this punk rock classic song came out! It definitely stood out!
Wow I first heard this in zoom and never knew what was being said and now I can see it’s clearly punk rock 101 🤣
I wanna go to punk rock boot camp
No you don't, the point of the song is to not want to go there.

BFS, Sum 41, Avril Lavigne, hell even FOB- those are some punk pop/rock bands
5SOS isn't Rock, nor is it punk- It's just pop
HR TheFlameBladesWielder Yeah, I think that they're Punk Rock, but if I had just said Punk Rock, I'm sure a bunch of people would've flipped their shits and I'm not in the mood to argue with people over music xD
Avril Lavigne is no longer pop punk and neither is fob
Lol just listen to the song and stop bringing 5sos into shit.
Either way, I'm talking in their primes.
jesus if you dont like them or their music stop complaining. just listen to the music you like and leave bands like 5sos out of it.
Still wanna know who the girl at 1:00 is.
Did you just say that?
While scrolling, read this as he said it xD
In their album, Songs People Actually Liked, he says, "Did you just say that again?"
That's the version of the song I first heard so hearing this makes the pieces fit together XD
i said its
stupid,contagious
To be broke and famous
5SOS needs to go to punk rock boot camp. I love them so much, but they claim to be punk rock when clearly they are not.
5SOS Punk? Dafuq? They had like two covers of songs by pop Punk bands lol.
You like that crap?
It's a joke they make xdd I like experimenting with music :33
I love them hah. That's their little joke. It gets brought up a lot with my friends and we're just like "yeah no they aren't punk rock" xD.
there a terrible band
My Dad: would you want to go to a military camp during vacations?
Me: would it be like the punk rock 101?
My Dad: ... Why are you like this
I got you bro haha i would say the same haha
These guys are always killer. One of the best.
Punk is supposed to be about fun. Pop punk, hardcore punk doesn't matter yet some ppl are so obsessed with being "real punk" like calm down
Nostalgia
I'm a born again Christian but when I see Fat Mike dance with his guitar I shed a tear for punk rock 0:17
For the record I've been looking for this song for years.
Mariana's Trench kinda copied this with their new song "Pop 101"
This is just my opinion.
that guy at the end... the one who didnt run, he sir is a Bro
R.I.P
1:42 nothing changes but the faces, the names and the trends! High school never ends!
Punk as a lifestyle means do what makes you happy and fuck what anyone thinks about it!
And if you claim to be punk then you shouldn't care if this is punk or not!
Agreed.

2017 present, im so happy I grew up during this time all the music then meant something to me
