Now I know how my Dad feels when he constantly talks about how he misses the 60s and 70s when he was growing up. I really miss the 90s and early 2000s. This song really takes me back
I was watching Len’s don’t steal my sunshine, The thing I notice most watching these older music videos....no cell phones. Even if it’s a music video people are just interacting with each other even the background people. I really think it’s not just nostalgia people were happier back then.
i was thinking the same, everything changed so much, i miss the 90s early 00s
Same here
100%. I was born in ‘89 and really miss 1997-2004.
same here. im a 37 yo that misses the good ol days.
Music is the closest thing we have to a time machine
True

Do you feel emo you might delete that comment later?

Can I heart this comment?
I’m 34 years old with a wife and 2 kids and listening to this song takes me back to my early days of high school when life was simpler.
I'm 34 too no wife or kids but still playing PunkRock....

Yellocard, All-American Rejects, Simple Plan, Bowling for Soup, Fallout Boy, Good Charlotte, Green Day and so many more loved bands. Am i the only one taking a trip down musical memory lane?
We're here bro
Nah i do it all the time at least twice a year. It usually starts with this song and then it just snowballs. I like to listen to a song and then when the video is over see what songs are suggested after the video and choose from those see where it takes me. Ah the high school years can't believe it's been 10 years already.
sean costa I do the same thing. I spend hours doing that. But I did learn to be careful about clicking suggestions when I accidentally ended up watching a stripper. So be careful or you will end up on a different side of UA-cam. (Unless that is what you're trying to do, if so more power to you. lol)

This song just brings back a Special feeling of Nostalgia you can’t explain. Ya just had to live through it. Viva the early 2000s 🤟
Deadass bro! It seemed like everything was so simple back then.

Every time I listen to this song it just takes me back to my naive, ambitious teenage self ready to take on the world. I miss those days.

The drummer and violinist are going so hard. You love to see it.
It’s been 21 years, and I still wonder if the couple in question were ever “together for one more night, somewhere, somehow”
I’d like to think so.😊
Yellowcard: The band that proved that violin is a fantastic compliment in pop-punk.
After the yellow card, many Japanese bands recruited violinists.
Look up The Dambuilders. Joan Wasser mixed electric violin into indie pop punk (aka Grunge) in the early 90s
I remember listening to yellow cards first album before Ryan key lol man did it sound different and the violin just didn't fit in lol
Also backflip
Fuck yeah it did!! He used to do back flips off the speakers at the live shows!!

I really miss these days
There's a place off Ocean Avenue
Where I used to sit and talk with you
We were both sixteen and it felt so right
Sleepin' all day, stayin' up all night
Stayin' up all night
There's a place on the corner of Cherry Street
We would walk on the beach in our bare feet
We were both eighteen and it felt so right
Sleepin' all day, stayin' up all night
Stayin' up all night
If I could find you now things would get better
We could leave this town and run forever
Let your waves crash down on me and take me away
There's a piece of you that's here with me
It's everywhere I go, it's everything I see
When I sleep, I dream and it gets me by
I can make-believe that you're here tonight
That you're here tonight
If I could find you now things would get better
We could leave this town and run forever
I know somewhere, somehow we'll be together
Let your waves crash down on me and take me away
I remember the look in your eyes
When I told you that this was goodbye
You were begging me, not tonight
Not here, not now

This song is legendary. I mean this is one of those songs that takes me back to a certain period when life was easier to deal with and genuinely more fun. This one will never be out of my playlist.
Reminds my childhood memories the great times
The instruments resting on “we can leave this town” in the last chorus is one of my favorite parts of any song. All the tensions builds up into the vocals and releases when the instruments come back in on “and run forever.” So good.
Electric violin 🎻 🤘
Love it🤘🤘
I thought the same and I remember that part makes me love this song so much. The build up is well planed and executed!
Gives me chills every singe time.
I hear this a lot in pop punk songs but this one is the best. Not sure if there’s a musical term for it? Early 2000s music was so great

Never underestimate the power of nostalgia.
It’s amazing to see that everyone in the comments is born in the late 80s and early 90s, reminiscing over their teenage years when they listened to these songs at the time they came out.
I’m 2006 born, and having dug all the way down the pop punk rabbithole for a huge amount of time now, I have this sort of pride to be able to say in the future, that just like you guys 20 years ago, I’ll also have passionately listened to this music in my teenage years, nowadays, kind of carrying a heritage from the last generation.
Even though I myself have trouble see it, there’s a whole bunch of guys like me out there. 2000s pop punk is still alive, people. It’s even reminiscing, nowadays.
I also weirdly have some kind of melancolic attraction to this period, feeling you were so lucky to live during that time. Even though I don’t fully know what it was like back then, I wish so bad I could’ve been a teen at the turn of the century, skating to blink, Good Charlotte, Yellowcard, and all the pop punk crowd. The simple suburban atmosphere feels warm and reassuring, when the American Dream was still alive.
All that to say, I think I feel you guys.
I would like to say that I was born in 1998, and from China, I met YC when I was in primary school, they are not very popular in China. I can only say that I am very lucky, extremely, absolutely.
Indeed. I'm the same age as you and I identify with everything you say :]
This is the comment I was looking for.
Being born 98 I still can feel it but I wish was born late 80s high school in the 90s would been so fucking dope or even just high school in the mid 00s

Who else has been on an early 2000s music binge? I was a teenager when this came out. Life sure was alot more fun back then. Now in my 30s life is mostly work, bills, stress and existential dread haha. Atleast we always have the music to take us back. :) Sending good vibes to everyone

For all the people saying they wish they were teenagers when this music was big, or that they'd known about it when it was:
There's nothing to stop you picking up a guitar, screeching at the top of your lungs till you can sing, and writing lyrics to pave an even longer path for some of the greatest music out there!

I never noticed before, but it actually changes with how many times he repeats the scenario. at 1:08 it has a 2, and at 2:39 it has a 3 on it. I've watched this video for like 10 years now and just now noticed this.

I just found an old postcard from a friend in my childhood. She demanded I go listen to track 16 of Now 16 in her postcard lol. I was surprised to remember this was the song. She passed away years ago, and I never got to say goodbye to her; and I'm crying now, listening to this song and thinking about her. I hope she can hear me listening to this song, and that she can know that even after all this time she lives in my heart.❤
This song is the easiest way to have your whole life flash before your eyes. Just pure nostalgia. Summer nights. Lake days with friends. Hanging out at your "spot" in your hometown. School dances. That 1st crush. The one who got away. Girlfriends/boyfriends of the past. That realization that you're getting older. This song is just the pure definition of nostalgia.

Rock is poetry 🤘💫👹💥💖 ❤supreme power
Long story. I have a brother 6 years older than me and when I was 7 this song came on the radio while we were driving. I had only heard it once before on MTV so I didn’t know the verse but I remembered the chorus easily. I was mumbling through the verse my brother was like “Don’t sing the song if you don’t know the lyrics” all smug like and that exact moment the chorus hit. I got right in his face with the biggest smile I’d ever had and yelled “IF I COULD FIND YOU NOW THINGS WOULD GET BETTER!!!” and proceeded to sing the whole chorus. The satisfaction I felt that day I still remember randomly sometimes. One of my first ups on big bro. Also lucky my mom was there so I had witnesses 😎
I remember that morning in 2004, when I woke up, turned on the tv and discovered this band and this song, that’s really changed me forever and now I’m 32 and still loving this song ❤
Hearing stories like this from people who had the “American teenage years” especially in the early 2000s is cool to hear. Hope you’re doin well well bro

I'm 64 and think is a great song. Especially since I found out that the song isn't about Ocean Avenue but Ocean Boulevard, a 15 or 16 block boulevard in Atlantic Beach, a beach town of Jacksonville. Cherry St is in Neptune Beach. In the 70s I was growing up on Ocean Blvd near the 15th St ramp to the beach. This song takes me back in so many ways. I'm feeling 14 instead of 64.
As a guitarist/singer... I never managed to find a drummer that can shape my music like that. Dude went so hard. Awesome!
My sophomore year of high school this was the #1 song in the country. I had the lyrics of this song posted on my AOL Instant Messager profile.
TyronBash, punk rock was the mainstream music style in the early 2000's that rivaled pop artists like Brittany, N'Sync, BSB, etc. and gave a lot of people a great alternative music genre. Punk rock (even popular punk rock) was much better than pop and I'm very thankful for songs like this.
That's adorable. I did the same, except for posting lyrics on my Live Journal, lol.

+zstJ FINALLY SOMETHING ORIGINAL
Was 15 when this came out in 2004. Damn ten years, I'm old as fuark now I'm 25. Midway to that 30's oh yeah that's where I'm going awesome.
shit has it been 10 years already? Lol that elementary school nostalgia, I'm 20 now
Dude, you're very young! Now I'm really old, 26. I remember this song on MTV. I liked it a lot.
All yall got nothing to complain about I'm 28!
Pfft! 28? Kiddo! 😆
Woot 23 here =P
The drum beat in this song is 🔥 🔥
Was with a girl in Foster care growing up over 20 years later I still cry to this song
I completely forgot about this band until tonight. I haven’t thought about it in like 10 years. It’s crazy how much of a different feeling I get when I listen to songs like this, and it’s not even a feeling I necessarily desire, it’s just a noticeably different feeling. A nostalgic feeling, a feeling of remembrance, of a different time. It’s crazy to think how much time has passed from when this song came out
Amen to that
this music will never die
hey man as an old fuck i just wana make you aware....that shit dont stop. almost everything you love will someday be twinged with feeling and meaning. but its good. i promise. usually anyway lol. enjoy it man
@@xAlexZifko thanks man
I recommend going down memory lane of all the forgotten things from your youth. It’s a bit sad, but definitely fun to relive your life through songs, movies, and pop culture from then
"Those violin lessons will never be wasted honey"> said some mom somewhere. 15 years later. "I can play violin guys" .........
"Ok do your thing at the chorus"
haroldfrogspawn bro lmao
LMFAO for real
OH MY GOD! this brings back so many memories of being in highschool and having great friends by your side and life being simple. Everything and everyone was so Innocent and pure back then. Man i miss the 00s! Wish i could go back in time and relive those days.
Almost 2024 and this never gets old.
so much nostalgia. hella boss song. it reminds me of malcolm in the middle.
Same
Haha bro this reminded me of Malcolm in the middle heavy. This song is for all those 90s kids. They don't make punk rock bands like this anymore.
Oh my god!! I remember hearing/seeing this song on MTV music videos all the time! :)
back when MTV actually had the channels name, they should put MTV back to what it use to be and make another channel called RealityTV and put the stuff that's on it now to there...
Me too!!
Yeah. Also Fuse! God, I miss when MTV and Fuse was good.
Rob Brown II yup
My cousin introduced me to rock with this song on my grandma's computer back when they could only download music via lime wire
A few years ago my friend Scottie died of a heroin overdose. Blink-182 was his favorite band. At his rememberance get together we were all drinking and telling stories about him and someone put this song on. The entire room broke into song and we held each other singing in unison. It was a really beautiful moment. When the song ended we all just stood in silence for a few moments and started crying. I'll never forget that night.
R.I.P
@@thatshowiroll5369 stupid auto play changed the song while I was typing my comment. This was supposed to go with Adams Song lol not Ocean Avenue

20 years ago today.....this song was released. Where does the time go. 😥 I was a freshman in high school.
I'm 30, this was the first song I had on my mp3 player in middle and high school. Still possibly my favorite song from the 2000's era.
Ahh I’m 27, brother is 30.. remember listening to all these jams while brother and his friends were playing computer and ps2. Such nostalgia
Same here

Someone please tell me you're watching this in 2024 and just now realized the number on the back of his jacket changes with each day he re-lives. I can't be the only one.
fell in love with yellowcard when i was like 12 i think. they played this video all the time on the N. this entire album is great.
Violins in punk music. I couldn't ask for anything more
Anyone else notice how the drummer absolutely killed it in this song?
My highschool best friend and i lost contact at 18. This song always feels like a hug from her. Whereever you are Erica.. i love you babooshka😊

There will always be a place off ocean avenue. Long live Yellowcard!
Yeah I watched this in 2021. No regrets.
36 now and I wish I could go back to teenage me and tell me don't rush to grow up, love the music and make the most of life.
I went to Denver for some Xmas shopping on Thanksgiving weekend last year. My love and I stopped in downtown at Icehouse Tavern for some pizza and beer. The place was getting loud and active and they had some good tunes going. Once this song came on everyone screamed and they all sang along. Ngl I sang my heart out with them, it was a nice treat to hear and one that I remember so well because that’s how good this song is. For a moment I believed in magic again, thanks Colorado :)
Epic!! How I wish I could just walk in to a pizza parlor and have the same experience ❤
I could listen to this, Blink182 (with Tom), Sum41, New Found Glory, Good Charlotte, Lit, and AAR all day every day for the rest of my life and totally be happy. Best generation of music in my opinion for a good time and happy feeling.
I like to think he whole Universe was created just to produce the music of the early 2000s
Michael McCurdy How can you guys not include Simple Plan in this
and green day
Michael McCurdy happy for sure. But the best decade talking about music was the 90's. Others would say the 70 but the attitude is in the 90's
Yes and simple plan ;) I am sure some are missing but will think of them later ;)

+Kaitlyn haha, i partied A LOT and never took school all that serious. ended up not graduating and I had only 4 months of senior yr left. ended up getting my GED. :P
