I agree but you also have to consider that she is an older woman who was raised in an extremely conservative, patriarchal brahmin community. Even if she said those extremely sexist stuff in the happiness project, her life is a rebellion against patriarchal prejudices, even if she doesn't realise it herself. Or maybe her saying that is her diplomatic (albeit problematic) way of navigating through a still sexist society. We need to give credit for that.

What he meant was since both of them know malayalam what is the need to show off in English. That's it. There is nothing wrong in speaking english, malayalam or any other language but the problem is with language chauvinism where one language is considered to be inferior to other. We are not living in colonial era, Jaya.
