You might be lightyears beyond where you are but at the same time you'd me lightyears ahead without all the experiences (both positive and negative). And at the end of the day, experiences are what make us who we are.

I too have a micro adenoma I had no clue I had it I quit sleeping and gained a ton of weight. Tried losing weight and training would absolutely level me. I was finally diagnosed a year ago this month and since then dropped almost 80 lbs and have added a lot of weight to my lifts in the past year. All that being said it was great to see someone else that has been down that road

Interesting philosophy on training Brian. I like the idea that the physical part of training is just a method to test your mental fortitude and build character. I've never really thought of it that way, and I kind of like it. And lets see an update of the facility, show us how it's looking!

Great video. One of the things I respect the most about you/your channel is your consistent good attitude and that you focus on real things that will actually improve a persons life if they listen. I hate to lump people in a category , but man if I see a video and a dude has a flat brim on his hat , I pass every time ! Incredibly powerful message in the first half of this video. Absolutely loved it and watched multiple times. That is a genuine expansion of perspective on the traditional explaination of "getting your motivation internally." I find that I enjoy the way I look when I lift, but im too attatched to it, and sometimes find it the reason I lift. It is the whole mirror sesh after a workout deal. I already feel the satisfaction of getting better, and thats the feeling when you hit a pr, but I couldnt neccessarily put my finger on what that feeling was, starving me of my ability to focus on that and make it a driving factor. This video brilliantly explained and realized the obtainment of pure challenge as a worthy goal. Just the need to improve, not for internal validation, but for a respect to being alive itself and appreciating potential and the range of emotions and feelings life gives you as a responsibility instead of just a privelage. We are not nihilistic cellular meat sacks just floating around this earth without purpose, so get under a facking bar and lift, BUCKO!

Great Q&A as always. I found it very interesting how differently we experience competitions and the time in between events, yet the nerves leading up to it are the same. I wonder if it is because you are at a level where there are expectations and your business needs a certain level of performance, or if it is just due to your level of patience. I personally love the time in between events where I can watch other competitors for technique ideas, talk about training, and soak in the knowledge, but that may just be due to me being a weak novice still.
    Keep up the great work!

Dude I'm glad to hear that your tumor is under control and your doing well!
If you haven't, you should check out the Calgary Barbell chanel. They put out quality content and Bryce is super strong. Mainly power lifting focused but they train out of a strongman gym.
But... they are in Canada so maybe not the right direction for your colab tour.

Hey Brian! Fan from WA here and enjoy seeing my state flag in many of your videos!
I'm following the conjugate method you laid out in one of your videos (antagonist giant sets, 3rms, 80% volume work, etc.) and it has helped my big 4 lifts noticeably. But in addition to those I want to get stronger in weighted dips and pull ups but realized I haven't improved in weight or reps yet.
I think they are the two best upper body movements one can do so it would be great to get some more insight on those. Thank you!

Could you please address nutrition and weightlifting at mid-age? As I am getting closer to 40, muscle soreness, fat loss and overall recovery becomes much more difficult (and most advice you find online aims toward guys in their 20s)

    • @joshjohnston7388
      @joshjohnston7388 7 років тому +4

Luis Samaniego yeah man. I'm mid 40s too and really have to adjust my expectations. Keeping body fat down isn't one of my problems, but making gains without living on the toilet and feeling like crap all the time from dihesting all that food all the time is. Seems like the only advice not aimed at the under 30 crew has to do with lower volume, longer training cycles, training submaximally, and only testing 2 or 3 times a year (because your building cycles last so much longer). Yeah, i can make gains faster on 3800 calories a day, i just feel like crap all the time and walk like a pregnant woman.

Yea, a lot of these videos are geared toward the 20 something crowd but I think the 40 something crowd is growing. Guys are becoming empty nesters, divorced, or just tired of being weak and want to prove that being mid-age doesn't mean your life is over. Rudy Kadlub co-owner of Kabuki Strength started powerlifting at the young age of 55. I don't know of any channel's with content on/like this???

Hey man, obviously it's up to you and your wife...but think about having kids sooner rather than later if you've ever considered it. The body doesn't age well in this regard and there's nothing you can do about it. It's also very rewarding and will expand your life (it's the ultimate chance to help someone else grow). Plus the world needs more people in it with your mindset (oh, and you'd be good at it). Just a thought.

Honestly, I'm not sure how well he'd do. The guys in his weight class are all taking something and deadlift 100-200 lbs more than he does - I mean, Larry Wheel competed and didn't win his weight class, and he's a world class powerlifter. If Brian thinks he could kill it, then go for it. Despite my reservations I'd love to see him compete :)

I was 15 when it happened and fit enough to just lie around for a few weeks then go. After giving birth and becoming inactive at 25 I began to have issues. Improvement with karate at 32 some regression kept in check by adding hockey goalie at 38 and lifting at 39. Regression after TAH last year having trouble with deadlift squat since. 43 now want to go hard but I'm afraid. Sorry for the long story I would love your take!

6:00 can I put in my opinion on staggered grip on deadlift? Other than your lats not engaging fully, your traps get pretty imbalanced. I'm pretty sure Allen Thrall has a video on why a staggered grip is not the best and a hook grip or straps at heavier weights is probably a better idea. IMO axle deadlift should be the only deadlift with a staggered grip.
