    Lisa killing John Arryn is a huge deal and basically the biggest plot twist ever. Littlefinger planned it all: Kill John Arryn and tell the Starks it was the Lannisters => Ned comes to the capital, because he is the kings best friend and the logical replacement. Littlefinger knew about the Incest, so he gave Ned little hints to keep him there and slowly start a war (chaos is a ladder) whilest he had all the players, Starks and Lannisters, in Kingslanding where he was the most important person, because he controlls the city watch. He is the evil mastermind of the story we have seen so far.

      I mean, she wants to get in fights and kill people, she's got to be prepared. That also includes bruising. Being a little girl is not going to make things easier. When I look at it sitting in my living room, obviously my brains like, "no! That's so wrong!" When I think of it from that timeperiod, that's exactly what she needs. Even without the attempting to kill him part. She needs to feel what the bruises are going to feel like on her body, and how to fight through that pain. She needs to know how to protect herself from those kind of attacks. Being a little girl is the most dangerous thing that she could be and she needs to protect herself. Which also includes being taught not to be so hot-headed and impulsive. Which is ironic that it's the Hound teaching her that because he's very hot headed.

    In essence it's revealed in this episode that Littlefinger had a big role in starting the events that caused the War of the Five Kings. He's one of the biggest manipulating psychopaths on Game of Thrones and that's saying a lot since there are a lot to choose from. @Alexander (Nikki said she wants to read them, that's why I'm being very cryptic about this one thing. I'm sure people have already ruined it, but I won't contribute) I think because this is the season where the books and the show really start to divert from each other for the first time, they had to add in a different type of conflict for the Lannister's than what is possibly going to happen in the books. Because the show did not go that way, and we aren't entirely sure how that way is going to go in the books anyway, I think they needed to add some sort of other obstacle in their way. Finances are the easiest way to go. Especially when you're not doing nearly as in-depth or amazing of a story. Full shade. Lol, this is actually one of my least favorite seasons.

    So remember - there was high security at the royal wedding. The entire point of the poison necklace was to smuggle the poison in in such a way that if it was discovered, Sansa would be the one arrested.

    • @oliveira_valeria
      @oliveira_valeria 6 років тому +73

      Plus, it made easier for Littlefinger to make Sansa dependent on him since the crown is looking for her. She doesn't have anywhere to go except stay with him because that damn necklace frames her.

    • @CheddahSlammer
      @CheddahSlammer 6 років тому +6

      I think the original plan was to get her out of their, the only reason Tyrion was blamed was because he was the one holding the cup and because Tywin and Cerci hate Tyrion. If someone else was holding the cup they would have thought that person did it.

    • @chrisf5828
      @chrisf5828 5 років тому +5

      No, there was no relevant security. Nobody strip searched Lady Oleanna, nor was anyone going to. If they were searching everyone for tiny poison containers nobody checked Sansa's necklace despite her having more known reasons to kill him than anyone could have thought Oleana had. For that matter, Oleanna killing him after the wedding but before it was consumated doesn't make any sense from any angle. The wedding was allowed to happen then the marriage was effectively anulled. It's a ridiculous crime.
      Also, regarding security, the necklace guy walks from a boat up to the table to get Sansa and leaves with her without any guards noticing. There was litterally no security. Not one single guard behind the tables. Not one single guard watching the access to the table area from the sea. Not one single guard looking at the guests after the king collapses to see what folks are up to, like leaving the scene.
      It is just a mistake in writing, that's all. These stories are written by human beings who are capable of error.

    • @xajaso
      @xajaso 2 роки тому +8

      @@chrisf5828 IMO Olenna killing Joffrey at the feast makes perfect sense. Margery was legitimately wed to a king, but because the marriage is unconsummated, she remains a viable candidate for another royal (or noble) marriage. Same thing occured with Renly, who's homosexuality was an open secret. Margery's claim that her 1st marriage remained unconsummated is credible, thus she is an acceptable bride for Joffrey. In this patriarchal world, Joffrey dying between the vows & bedding is the best possible outcome for Margery and the Tyrells - all the benefits of marriage to a king without the attendant baggage. Doing it this way also insures Margery's physical safety; no chance Joffrey injures or impregnates her on the wedding night.

    The Hound was teaching Arya a valuable lesson. If you attack someone and you are unprepared and weak, you die. Attacking someone with a big thick armour and a big sword with Needle was dumb. If she did that to a real enemy, he could have killed her easily. The real world is not a game, in a swordfight you win or you die: there's no middle ground.

    The tragedy of Dontos - the 'drunk' - is that he was the last living member of the house of the lords of Duskendale. He only lived as long as he did because Barristan Selmy asked the Mad King to spare the child. They don't reveal this in the show, but the lords of Duskendale kidnapped the King and tortured him for months, perhaps even with sexual violence from the Lady of the hold. When Tywin rescued him the king had lost his mind and they had all but Dontos put to death. Littlefinger could trust him to complete the plot because Dontos had absolutely no one to turn to since Selmy fled. He killed Dontos because Dontos finally had something of real value to buy his way out with: information.

    The Littlefinger/Lysa love triangle drama goes way back. Littlefinger squired under Hoster Tully and fell in love with his daughter Catelyn, while his other daughter Lysa fell in love with him. When Catelyn was engaged to Brandon Stark (Ned's brother) Littlefinger challenged him to a duel and got knocked in the dirt. Obviously Lysa was not happy with this display of affection. Then Brandon and his father died in the drama that set off the rebellion, so to forge alliances Catelyn married Ned, and Lysa married Jon Arryn. So it was easy for Littlefinger to use Lysa's love for him to get her to poison her husband, and she didn't help the Starks even when Catelyn asked because she was still jealous. That's why she thinks Littlefinger is sleeping with Sansa, because she's Catelyn's daughter (and she looks like her -- both Tully sisters and Sansa have red hair).

    Margaery is basically waving her power in Cersei's face. She knows the Lannisters need this alliance. The Tyrells are the second richest family in Westeros. For Margaery to become Queen is something they need so they can join their houses and their power against the Crown's enemies. That's why Margaery is fearlessly taunting Cersei by calling her sister or mother. She knows her power here.

      What does Jamie pushing bran out the window have to do with Jon arryn's death? Someone explain that to me and why it's relevant to this discussion? Why would bran being pushed out of the window have anything to do with the Lannisters innocence in the nonsense of Jon Arryn's death? Seeing as though comment is about the Lannisters innocence in the nonsense of John Arryn's death, I'm not sure what it has to do with Jamie pushing bran out of the window. The original poster should not have to write an essay over explaining everything. We're discussing the Lannisters involvement with John Arryn's death in this entire comment section, not just the replies to this comment. Jamie pushing bran out of the window literally has nothing to do with the Lannisters not being responsible for Jon Aaron's death. It is not relevant to the conversation. What you guys want to do is be upset about something so you found it. Because Op did not write out a bunch of words explaining things that we are all not talking about, you guys got offended. Read between the lines for once. Saying that the Lannisters are innocent of this one thing does not mean that they are innocent of anything else. There's no way it could be interpreted that way unless you want to be upset about something.

Remember that Ned was the younger son at the point of his fostering, so the idea was for him to find a place in the world as a warrior as he was not supposed to become lord of winterfell. Think of it as like going away to boarding school or college.

      Furious Magpie: It worked in that respect as well. Robert's rebellion started when Aerys the mad king demanded that Jon Arryn execute Ned and Robert and send him their heads. He refused and became the first great lord to rebel against the crown, immediately 3 of the great houses were in open rebellion.
      Jon was also the man most responsible for maintaining peace in the realm after Robert won the throne, he worked hard to placate the Dornish and talked them around (Oberyn tried to continue the war after King's Landing fell; he wanted to crown Viserys).

    My Dad taught me never hit a girl, my mother taught me; if the girl is big enough to throw a punch at you, she's big enough to take a hit, as long as I didn't strike first.
    A girl was beating up a friend, I stepped in and I didn't strike back and felt embarrassed later, when my mom got home and saw my face, is when she gave me that lesson.
    Arya was foolish enough to do that ;she's old enough to take a hit.
    Sandor was quite measured.

      @@The80sWolf_ "they"? are women another species to you now? Why would equality make it ok to hit women? For one thing, it's not ok for people to hit anyone. It's not ok for men to hit men. I agree if someone hits you first you can retaliate, but in general equality shouldn't automatically mean 'I can hit every woman I want' and if the first thing you think when people bring up equality is 'Great! Now I can go around punching women' then something is wrong with you.
      I know this is kind of off topic for a Game of Thrones thread, but I hate how people equate equality between the sexes with being allowed to expend violence at every turn. Arya, in this instance, deserved retaliation for her actions, because of her actions. But she doesn't deserve automatic violence because she's a woman/girl who wants equal treatment. The person who throws the first punch in anything other than self defense is almost universally seen as the asshole, no matter who the recipient is. If you hit women just because you can
      (and apparently want to), makes you an asshole.

    Sorry, Steven but it doesn't make any sense. Littlefinger said something like: you didn't notice something missing. The only way she could notice that jewel was missing is if she saw it intact. If the jewel wasn't there in the first place how could she know that there was jewel there before? 😉😂

      it's pretty obvious when you buy a necklace brand new and you notice there is a jewel missing...
      and steven actually does make sense in that if they did have a different way to get the jewel into the party they would still need to put the necklace on sansa AND have her wear it to the party in order to frame her for it.
      where steven doesnt make sense is why would they arrange a different way to smuggle it in and risk getting caught when they could just use sansa to get it in and take the jewel off later.
      this is where I dont really get the "high security"... sansa has the most reason to kill joffrey... why wouldn't she be the most patted down and watched person there?

    • @digitalthunder9927
      @digitalthunder9927 6 років тому

      i also don't understand why LF would tell sansa about the necklace... if she's smart she would realize she was used and that they intended to frame her if it went to shit... why would you even need to tell sansa about the necklace and risk her understanding that? he could have just said yes, I killed Joffrey and I'm setting you free... let's go.

      @@@digitalthunder9927 - Probably for the same reason he told her the story of the Mountain and Hound when he 1st met her at the joust tournament. He's gambling, but by sharing these damning secrets with Sansa, he's establishing a mutually assured fate for the both of them. He set this whole mess in motion and pegged Sansa from the start as someone easy to manipulate, and assessed her value to him from very early on + he's a pervert. He's gaining her trust by seemingly putting his fate in her hands, when really, it's quite the opposite. He's had his hooks into her from day 1... such a creep.

    This series is just amazing, and the reveal that Lord Petyr Baelish/Little Finger was behind everything from the start is such a mind blowing curveball. He is the reason Jon Arryn died, he is the reason the Starks were told that the Lannisters were behind it, he was the one who betrayed Ned, he was the one who got Joffrey killed.... every step of the way he was behind the curtain pulling the strings. Kind of impressive, even if he is a self serving piece of sh*t, lmao.

      Petyr Baelish didn't create his own house, he just changed House Baelish's sigil. And "first of his name" is a title for rulers, like Queen Elisabeth "the First" of Britain and King Christian "the Fourth" of Denmark. It doesn't symbolise Petyr Baelish in any way. He wasn't the first Baelish as you imply, and he's not king... The episode title refers to Tommen, who is crowned "King Tommen of the house Baratheon, first of his name" at the beginning of the episode.

    The necklace was there to smuggle the poison in, so that Lady Olenna could get the Jewel and put it into Joffrey's cup. If someone would have taken the jewel out of the necklace to give it to Olenna the day before, the whole thing about giving the necklace to Sansa would have no point... exept they wanted to frame her. Or Olenna could have taken a jewel from her own necklace or ring. In fact, if someone had the idea to check all jewelery for poisonous jewels right before the wedding, then Sansa would have been in trouble. And all she could say for her defence would have been, that she got it from Ser Dantos.

    Fun Fact: Robin Arryn is supposed to be Robert Arryn. But to reduce the confusion, they named him Robin in the show. Robb Stark and Robert Arryn are both named after Robert Baratheon, as Ned and Robert were both fostered by Jon Arryn at the Eyrie in the Vale. They both loved Robert greatly.
    There's quite a bit of history there betwen Catelyn, Lysa and Littlefinger. Rewatch those scenes and listen closely.

    Great episode as always you two! Just want to touch on a few things. I know others in the comments have explained these parts already but I could talk about this show for hours. haha
    1. If you remember when they first arrived, Robin Arryn was asking Sansa about Ned, Catelyn and Robb. He asked her if they had died and he then mentioned that his father Jon Arryn was also murdered by the Lannisters.
    2. The comments made between Lysa Arryn and Petyr Baelish. Lysa was talking to Petyr and she said roughly, That she (Lysa) was the one who poured poison in her husbands (Jon) wine at Petyr's orders. She then mentions that Petyr was the one who also asked her to send the letter to Catelyn, telling her and Ned that Jon Arryn did not die from getting sick. He died at the hands of the Lannisters. That letter basically started the entire conflict between the Starks and the Lannisters.
    3. The scene between Arya and the Hound. I know you guys are very sensitive and protective over Arya but you must remember, she is not a little girl any more. Yes at this point she may only be 12-13 years old but age is different in this time period. 14 year old children bare children and get married and can, as we have seen, also sit on the Iron Throne. Also Arya is arguably eve more of an adult then Sansa is at this point. Her and the hound have a connection. She says he is on her list and that she will kill him one day but that does not mean they don't work well together.
    She is certainly learning something new about life and fighting and surviving everyday and that is directly because of the Hound/The people she has traveled with. Also if you think about it, she just tried to kill him. A larger sword or a weaker part of his armor and she would have shoved it straight through him. The backhand was more of a, "this is what you get for trying to stab me yet I'm going to give you your sword back anyway". It was a perfect tough love situation and it really will only make her stronger as a person.
    ------------------------

    When you factor in everything as Nikki says, it does not make sense. Little finger wouldn't point out a missing gem if that gem wasn't playing a part in the poisoning. If it had been missing from the start then this jewel would not be spoken about at all. Yes I concede that it is possible for the jewel to have been missing beforehand and it "makes sense" that it could. However, your point only makes sense when you selectively ignore parts of the story.
