From Emmy Award-winning executive producer and creator Seth MacFarlane (FAMILY GUY, “Ted,” “Cosmos: A SpaceTime Odyssey”), THE ORVILLE is a live-action, one-hour space adventure series set 400 years in the future that follows The Orville, a mid-level exploratory spaceship. Its crew, both human and alien, face the wonders and dangers of outer space, while also dealing with the familiar, often humorous problems of everyday life. The ensemble series stars MacFarlane as the ship’s Commanding Officer, Ed Mercer, and Adrianne Palicki (“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Friday Night Lights”) as his ex-wife, Kelly Grayson, who’s assigned as his First Officer. Additional cast members include Penny Johnson Jerald as Dr. Claire Finn (“24,” “The Larry Sanders Show”), Scott Grimes as Gordon Malloy (“ER,” “Justified”), Peter Macon as Bortus (“Shameless,” “Bosch”), Halston Sage as Alara Kitan (“Neighbors,” “Goosebumps”), J. People shouldn’t be promoted based on time served. It should be by merit.
This was a very pointed put-down of the infamous scene between Bill Cosby and his son Theo. "Why can't I be like 'regular people'? Why can't you love me if I'm not a doctor or a lawyer, but because I am your son?" Warm applause from studio audience. Cosby replies "That's the DUMBEST THING I've ever heard! I brought you in this world; I can take you out!" Audience bursts into hysterical laughter.
The Orville did a real paradigm shift last night. Not everyone can be in command, be brilliant, be better than everyone "regular." And The Orville says to Gordon that they love him anyway and he is one of the best pilots in the fleet. And THAT IS OKAY! They love Gordon just like he is. Not everyone can be a Mensa member. And they, the regular people, are still worthy of love and respect.
Great for young people who feel defeated by life because they're not "the best" and so they think they are total failures in life.
Dr. King said "all work has dignity." And Dr. King was right.
It feels like they not as much showed him that he can't do it, more like that he wouldn't want to do it.
ALL of you are FUN characters to follow. You really captured the genre. WELL DONE. Kelly is a great actress, perfect timing with her lines (could say that about everyone so far though, lol). Love your show guys.

He'd be ths Orville equivalent of Captain Merrick. One week into his career, he'd turn a primitive planet into ancient Rome.

There's nothing to fare out for lieutenant commander
Here's a scene that somebody should figure out how to create. Maybe in the new Orville series. Or maybe in one of the new Star Trek movies that would be coming up or any science fiction for that matter. A spaceship has to get caught to close to ensure some gravitational waves. The results of which would be violent expansion and contraction of space-time. That would look pretty cool to see someone being shaken like that. Maybe the evil villain can be launched into the gravitational field of a couple of orbiting neutron stars or black holes. Or maybe the Orville can escape from a gravitational field like that.
I'm just saying that would be a really great scene. All right I'll leave it to the rest of you directors are writers to do the rest you have the idea

He did fail ... not cut out to be a bridge officer of the line ... just as Troi wasn't, or Dr. Crusher for that matter. Those latter 2 were just nods to the Secular progressive PC crowd. If you''re good at something, or the 'best' at something, that's quite enough to hang your hat on, Gordon.
