And for that matter Marko himself is classically trained and fronted for Taro a band he formed with his brother. And if you check out her solo career footage live at woodstock Poland she shows real range and power covering Muse's Supremacy. She is a mezzo soprano with a warm round chest voice. That high note in Supremacy would blow the roof off, were they not on an outdoor stage. The other thing you will see with 20 years experience is how she owns the stage. Her power over the crowd. She calls her fans her winter storm. Now metal especially Symphonic metal is a sound they created together after hearing Tarja sing. They started in 1996 and this was October 21, 2005. Last show of ONCE upon a tour. 9 years together. And since then her discography, and work outside of just music is incredible. Also much more than just what you hear in Nightwish. I also have to point out she isn't an opera singer but more Chamber music suited but that is deep dive into differences not usually known by the general public. Classical music you can try the whole Beauty and the Beat concert. In addition she has a side project called Outlanders. Electronic music with guitar and drums. Guest starring legends in the business. With videos shot in the Caribbean nation of Antigua. Or her blue grass versions of 2 classics with the Finnish hillbillys Steve N'Seagulls in their Seagull's Nest. Helps to know the band's founding members are from Kites Finland a rural area along the Russian border. So they took the girl out of the country but not the country out of the girl. One thing to note about this performance, Webber himself labeled this his favourite non stage version.

Marco sounds a lot of more sinister but so does Tarja, it's the Gothic Metal Phantom of the Opera not everyone needed but that the world deserved :)))
I have seen The Phantom Mange quite a few times at the theatre. I really love that musical. Still, the Nightwish version of that track is my favorite :-)

I understand that you come from a different world but I'm going to make an argument that for musical theatre and even opera to continue to thrive that new arrangements and new approaches, including infusing metal into the mix, is essential. I say this as someone who has only come into symphonic metal in the last few years (so I don't have a particular bias towards metal) but who has been basically bored to tears by traditional musical theatre and sick of the tired old tropes and scores of opera (although Malcom McLaren's Carmen and Madame Butterfly managed to spark some excitement). So, to see Nightwish, be it with Tarja and Marko or Floor and Henk, reimagine this is refreshing. This is what the future of musical theatre could be if anyone is paying attention. BTW, I know this will probably be seen as heretical, but I think Antonio Banderas' performance of this song as the Phantom is the most snooze-worthy of them all.

If you want to hear Tarja on a Nightwish song, stay with this show and try Wishmaster, The Siren, Nemo, Over the Hills and Far Away, or the show closer, Wish I Had An Angel.

This version is my favorite, the pairing of Tarja's rich dark classical vocals and Marko's rough heavy metal vocals created pure magic! My very close second favorite version is Tommy Johansson's!!! He takes on both parts and masters both!!! 😊

I think you were unnecessarily critical. In my opinion, this song is just as good as the Floor+Hank version in Dutch T.V. (I'm not saying it's better), but at the same time it's completely different, more metal and darker, and the peak at the end is exactly as it should be.
This is the absolute best rendition to me! But opera is one of the top three on my hate list. however i got one eception on two of the three! In this casse it's how they work of eachother and the fact that the phantomm actually seem to have a character. in all the other versions he's just background noice.
I really love that you said that Tarja doesn't sing full opera because even though she trains in the classical world she "departs" a bit to do it her way. but everyone says that she sings very "opera" and it is not like that. if you want to listen to Tarja singing a real aria I recommend: mein herr marquis etc if you want to listen to Tarja in recent times (she uses more vocal resources) I recommend shadow play in her show circus life live (she plays the piano too) or more symphonic metal I recommend stargazers or ciaran's well (I can get you the link if you want). I can also offer you something with house or electronic music or some Christmas music or dark Christmas music. Tarja is very versatile.

Your comment on Marko had reached the top of his peak tone, I recommend you rewatch it without focusing on Tarja. Even the vocalists of Phantom, Hank Poort of Netherland, was impressed and copied Markocs style because it's ao menacing. 2 - Nightwish has released the remastered official version of Nightwish' The Phantom of the Opera with Floor Jansen and Henk Poort during live show in Netherland. You should react to that also. Henk Poort was the original stage Phantom in Netherland.
That's THE only Siren, Tarja Turunen❤ This was Fall, Helsinki, Finland 2005, "End of an Era" Tour concert. I was 18 then, I'm now 37. This was the last time we heard the Siren, the Viking, the Pirate, the Vampire & the Zombie all perform together. I'll never forget it... Beautiful venue, beautiful country. There are not many, but some Flour fans who all but want to erase Tarja, so they bully reactors who give her any kind of attention. That’s one of the reasons why they’re giving you so much grief about Marco. Actually I’ve heard other reactors comment Marco may be a bit too heavy so you’re not alone. Me? This is my fav version, but I don’t expect it to be everyone’s. And I’m not under the impression that any singer is perfect.
Floor and Henk Poort just recently (like less than a month ago) performed Phantom of the Opera with Nightwish at a concert. I think you will really enjoy that performance.
