- The Reds have hit some historic home runs, but after careful deliberations and ripping of MLB owned video footage, these are what I'm calling the greatest home runs in Reds history.
Of course Jay Bruce' famous walk-off Home Run to send the Reds to the playoffs is on this list, but not to be forgotten are Tony Perez and Johnny Bench historic home runs.
Also, Ron Gant is on this list. So that's a thing.
Here we are, the reds most memorable home runs of all time.

Johnny Bench and Lee May hit back-to-back homers to help the Reds close out Crosley Field history on a winning note (5-4) on June 24, 1970. Bench also hit a dramatic homer in the last game of the 1972 NLCS to tie the game, which they won a few minutes later on a wild pitch. Johnny also belted one on the night set to celebrate his career in 1983.
Yes, those would make my top 5 list as well as the back to back homers by Bench and Foster to tie game 3 vs the Phillies in the 76 NLCS.
I'm so glad you listed Tony Perez's 1975 World Series Game 7 homer off Bill Lee as number 1. Perez absolutely drilled that ball out onto Landsdowne Street, and it helped the Reds win the wonderful 1975 Series.

Yes, I think Todd Frazier HR derby doesn’t belong in this list. Exhibitions aren’t really that impressive. Bench in 1972 NLCS game 5 belongs in its place.

I have been a Reds fan since the late 1960s, and one of the top five home runs for me was one that pinch - hitter Hal King, whom the Reds had recently acquired in a trade, hit off Don Sutton with two outs in the ninth inning in the first game of a doubleheader at Riverfront on July 1, 1973. The home run off the right field foul screen won the game, and the Reds came back to win the second game and cut the Dodgers lead to nine games. The King home run turned their season around, but I have not been able to find a recording of it.
Your're absolutely right. But, of course the most or best "in history" these days means "what I could get video of," or "what I can remember."
Wow that's a memory. I remember hearing that home run on the radio and don't think I ever saw video of it. I recall another Tony Perez walk off Home Run against the Giants in I think 1976 probably. I want to say a 3 run shot down by 2 during the first game of a Friday night Twi-Light Doubleheader.
What about...Hal King's 3 run homer in the bottom of the 9th that gave the Reds a 4-3 win over Don Sutton and the LA Dodgers. It was July 1st, 1973 and the Reds were 11 games out of first and one out away in game one of a double header at Riverfront Stadium from being 12 games out (LA was in first). Tony Perez led off the bottom of the 9th with a double and after a pop-up and a strike-out, Walter Alston walked Johnny Bench intentionally (he was pinch hitting for Dave Concepcion) to bring the potential game winning run to the plate. Hal King pitch hit for Bill Plummer and took Sutton deep. The Reds then got on a role and wound up winning the division by 3.5 games. They were 39-37 entering that game and went 60-26 the rest of the way! Hal King was in his first year with the Reds and coming into the game he was 1-12 with that one hit being a home run on 6/20/1973. He walked in his first at-bat on 6/20 and then homered. From there he went 0-11 until that homer on 7/1. That year, Hal would have 8 hits at the major league level and 4 of them left the yard! He would only have 9 more hits in MLB after this huge hit that turned a season around.

This one I remember the most. I think he was one of only three Reds to make it to the red deck, George Foster and Kevin Michell, I believe, did it also.
5th game of the 72 playoffs against the Pirates..Bottom of the ninth Pirates up 3-2..Bench homers to tie it...I was there I was 12 years old..I thought the stadium was going to collapse! That roar of the crowd nearly lifted me off my feet! I've been to many sporting events since and have NEVER HEARD OR FELT ANYTHING EVEN CLOSE TO THAT!

Even though the Reds lost in the playoffs to the Mets, in 1973 the Reds had four big homers. On July 1, 3rd string catcher Hal King hit a pinch 3-run game winner in the bottom of the ninth off Don Sutton to win 4-3. At the time, the Reds trailed LA by 11 games.. In Game 1 of the '73 playoffs against the Mets, Rose hit a homer in the 8th off Tom Seaver to tie the game 1-1. And Bench hit a game winner in the bottom of the ninth to win it. During a Game 3 loss, Pete Rose got into a fight with Bud Harrelson setting off a barrage of projectiles thrown by Mets fans. In game 4, Rose came through with a game-winning homer off of Harry Parker in the 12th to send the series to Game 5.

Pete also sad that he would hit a homerun against catfish hunter they ask rose before the game about catfish he compared cat fish Jim mcandrews not really saying anything bad about cat fish catfish didn't like the way pete said and the media took off with any way Pete said I hit a homerun off of him and the first pitch of the game rose stuck it in the outfield seats now that is what I call a dandy he said and did it remarkable

I saw Bench hit a grand slam in 1980 against the dodgers in the bottom of the 8th on a 1-2 count against Rick Sutcliffe. Someone needs to tell this guy Reds history begins before 1990.

I'd add Johnny Bench's game-tying homer in the 9th inning of the 1972 pennant playoff and Hal King's 1973 shot that brought an unexpected victory over the Dodgers - a start of their comeback to the division championship.

I was at the Giants game where Doggie hit the homer in the bottom of the 9th. It was the first game of a nighttime doubleheader--and they brought in Jack Billingham to pitch the 9th, where he promptly gave up a home run for the Giants' 13th run to make it a 13-9 game. The Reds won the nightcap 5-0 behind Freddie Norman's 5 hitter (I believe).
Here are two HR that come to mind for me. Joey Votto's walk off grand slam on Mother's Day 2012.
The other is Adam Dunn's walk off grand slam against Cleveland in 2005 or so....

As others have mentioned, Johnny Bench's home run to tie in the 9th against Pirates in final game of 72 playoffs is absolutely #1. Cesar Geronimo hit one earlier in that game that is more important than half the one's you included.
I would have included the back -to-back home runs by Bench and Foster in the playoff win over Philly in ‘75 or ‘76.

Then why was Griffey's inside the park shown when they lost 96 games that year? and no Gennett was the first ever Red to hit 4 home runs. This is the most memorable home runs not important and Gennett's 4 home run day was pretty damn memorable. Plus you said not multiple in a single game yet they showed a few clips of multiple home run days. Did you even watch the video??
@@ImBlisty checked on the Mike Cameron 4 homer game, he was with Seattle when he hit the 4 homes on four consecutive at bats. Two of them were in the first inning.

There were a couple of Lynch HRs during the 1961 season. I realize you don't have film of those but the history of the Reds is a lot older than 1975. Bench in the 1972 LCS is a pretty big one too.

My faves off the top of my head are Eric Davis grand slam in the Big Payoff Inning so the person would win the car. Joe went nuts. And then of course Davis in the first inning of game one against the A's

Its hard for me to believe that one of Foster's 122 dingers in '77-'79 didn't have some kind of meaning. Maybe the one he hit into the upper deck?

If you are going to mention the network broadcaster's speculation about Perez getting signaled about the pitch, which is untrue, you can see Bench is just standing there, not signaling at all. Bro', Bill Lee threw his curveball a lot, the epheus ptich as you called it, was actually thrown by Tiant, not Bill Lee.
Perez had struck out to Bill Lee earlier in the same game, with Morgan and Rose Laughing at him in the dugout. Perez told them then , innings earlier than his home run, paraphrasing here, if Lee throws that slow lobbing curveball S*** again, that he would rip it over the Green monster. Perez often "called his shot among teammates". In the top of the 6th before facing Bill Lee again, with sparking pacing and Tony "Doggie" Perez getting his bat out of the rack, Perez asked Sparky what was wrong. Sparky "Damn it Doggie, it's the 6th, of game 7 and we're still down 3 nothin'." To which Perez replied " Don't worry 'bout it. Jus' get someone on base. I'm going heet' a bomb." bench doubled and then Perez delivered on his promise. The speculation was total b.s. on the CBS broadcaster group. Lee lived and died off his curveball. No signs were needed as Perez was waiting for it.
You must add Game 5 NLCS 72, bottom of the 9th to break Pittsburgh's hearts, by Bench of course, with young Reds Play by Play, Al Michaels.
In the 72' world series Bench hit a homer off Vida Blue to give the Reds the lead in game 6 and they won that game.
Btw, How about something on Frank Robinson in the late 50's and early 60's, or Vada Pinson or Gus bell or Ted kluzewski?

1975 Reds starting pitcher Don Gullet hit a homer late in NLCS game 1 to ice it against Pittsburgh.
In Game 3 of the 75 series, there was 6 total home runs combined with Reds and Red Sox. Reds won in extras , Geronimo, Concepcion, and Bench all went yard.
Perez hit 2 homers in game 5 of the 75 series to put Reds up 3 games to 2.
1976 NLCS Foster and Bench back to back home runs in the 9th tie the game, which they went on to win.
1976 world series, Morgan's homer to beat the Yanks and start us off to a sweep. How about Danny Driessen who hit for the cycle as the first ever national league D.H. in the world series? Which includes a home run to help beat the Yankees.
Surely in 1979 there is a clutch homer against the Astros and Dodgers as the Reds defeated them for the Division title. Such as, if you can find it, on September 11th, Astros still had a slight half game lead on the Reds, and were leading in the 7th, up 7-6, and Conception (Who knocked out 16 dingers that year) hit a clutch 2 run shot, followed by a bomb from Foster for good measure. The Reds won that night and the next, taking the division lead, but the Astros stayed on their heals, though the Reds held them off for the division title.

You forgot the homer Pete Rose hit off Candelaria in Game 3 of the 1975. NLCS with two out in the eighth and Rettenmund on first to put Cincy up 3-2. Then Morgan hit a double knocking Candy out of the game. Reds went on to win 5-3 in ten innings.
A few of the greatest since 2000. Back to back to win the 76 playoffs? Bench’s 2 to close out the Yankees in the 76 World Series?

The video has too much explanation/commentary and basically doesn't show the home runs. Yet with all the talking, doesn't even mention the Griffey Jr. Inside the park was inside the park. Leaves it to our ability to notice it.
