Christopher Kugel game came out on xb1 and ive killed a few moose with it and 2 bears. It came out for xb1 like a month ago and i got it a few days ago
Me and my friend didnt know about spine shots and were hunting bison with the .243 and one of the ones we killed had something like 42 shots in it when we harvested it lmao
One thing I would really like to know, is how the ammunition affects the game. In which cases do I want more penetration and when do I go for expansion instead? More penetration when I aim with low calibre guns at big game because I need to get through thicker flesh (shooting a moose with a .270 for example) and otherwise expansion? Or is it more a matter of what part of the animal you are shooting at, with skull and spine need high penetration, while aiming at softer inner organs benefits from high expansion instead? I am kind of at a loss about how this works in the game. There are at least two ammunition types for all the weapons, but the game does not really tell me which of those is better for what situation. If you do a video about where to aim at and place your shots on the game you hunt, you could maybe explain this as well.
If you are primarily going for lung shots (unless you want a guaranteed 100% quick kill bonus every single time, you should be going for double lung shots), and as long as you're shooting at animals within the effective range of your weapon (below the range where the projectile begins to lose kinetic energy and thus killing power), then use the soft points. If you are primarily going for skull/spine shots, shooting past the effective range of your weapon, or using a caliber of weapon that would be considered underpowered for the animal you are hunting, use the polymer tips for the increased penetration. Soft points will give you a greater initial damage when you shoot an animal, as well as a higher ticking bleed DoT, but suffer from decreased penetration, and thus aren't really suitable for skull/spine shots, or for use against larger animals than the caliber is designed for. Polymer tips will give you less initial damage and subsequent bleed DoT, but have higher penetration and shine in skull/spine shots, and for use on animals larger than what the caliber is designed for. It's not a case of polymer tips being an upgrade to soft points, it's more that each has a specific situation that you'd use them in and outside of that situation they don't perform as well. I'll be covering all this as well as shot placement in a future Hunter 101, so keep your eyes peeled for it. Good question!
Thank you so much for that elaborate answer. That really helps me a lot. Looking forward to you next videos! They have been both entertaining and educating so far.
After a long browse through the Steam Discussion forums, and asking a few questions I learned that stats listed in game for the Polymer and Soft-point rounds are actually reversed. The Polymer tip has quicker expansion, but less penetration, and the soft-point has more penetration but less expansion. You can read this thread for more info: steamcommunity.com/app/518790/discussions/0/1368380934284661669/?ctp=2
In the game polymer consistently get's better results over soft-points regardless of range or where you shoot. Polymer also has a greater chance at getting multiple vital hits than soft-points due to higher penetration even though it's supposed to be the other way around. Basically if you want maximum damage and stopping power you always go polymer.
Totally agree with you on the .243. I bought mine, a short bolt action varmint type gun, as a backup to my .270 but pretty much use it exclusively now because it's so easy to handle. Great for most hunting.
I saved up for the 7mm first, which served me quite well and is still my go-to for a lot of game, then got the .338, which is better for Elk and Moose (and European Bison, but I rarely go to the German reserve). To be honest I kind of wish I'd gone for the 45-70 instead as I'm finding my favourite animal to hunt at the moment (and also one of the better animals in terms of money reward) is black bear (fun to track, $1000+ per kill) - 9 times out of 10 I'm hunting them in very dense brush where the shorter range doesn't matter, but having the quick follow-up shots would be good as sometimes they don't go down straight away, or they will even charge
They're so close on realism, yet still get several annoying things wrong on many of the firearms in this game... If only they'd done just a bit more research and got it right.
You forget it's a video game. Compare the classic to the call of the wild and you can tell they added more video game like features such as the skill points.
I feel like I might have the old version, because my weaopn menu looks much different. It doesnt show the ammo I have loaded and what I can take down with it, like on the video... how do I upgrade?
Loving the series so far, really helpful. A topic I would really like to see is the proper way to hunt each animal, ie. how integrity etc is calculated, how exactly lures and calls work etc, have you considered touching that topic?
That is planned for one of the later videos. The goal is to go over basic topics in the beginning, and then make our way to progressively more advanced topics and techniques. Thanks for the feedback!
As far as i know are those triv sights not bugged, you need to aktivate them on most weapons by pressing your mouse wheel (or which key you have to toggle the scope off the weapon)
Kinda late, but what is the difference between a 7mm Empress Magnum and the Regent? Empress is just premium and not locked behind rifle score from what the game shows, but I could be wrong.
I've been playing this for a while but I'm still sorta new to it but where abouts would I find some boars I've been looking and the deers and foxes are a bit boring at this time thanks if could help mate
I've personally taken 180lbs white tail in PA with a 30-30 at 250 yds. It drops a lot more then a 30-06 or 7mm obviously but you can easily make a humane kill out to at least 300 yards with it on medium game with proper shot placement
They really screwed up with the 270. It's in a position that's useless. It's too strong for black tail and too weak for moose and elk. It's pointless carrying around because if you come across a coyote or black tail you won't get the integrity bonus. I've just stuck with the 243 and 7mm the entire game. They need to fix it so it's as versatile as in real life
You sure can, you can turn off all footprints, tracking elements, and animal call overlays. Footprints and blood will still show up, but they won't be highlighted any more.
Here's a thing I either missed or haven't been told. The 0 - 4(5) animal vs gun categories, are confusing. Because sometimes you get punished by shooting an animal that should be in the category your weapon/ammo is, how come?
thx you helped me out a ton. im playing on the xbox one and sitting here for an hour thinking about 7mm vs 30-30. integrity on the 7mm is trash for what i hunt but its cool cuz like you said i have the starting weapon for that.
I have hunted with a 30-30, if you use lighter grain higher power rounds (150-130 grain depends on your twist rate and barrel length) it works well at a maximum of 200 yards. It has around the same ballistic performance as a 7.62×39. It would be cool if you could adjust bullet weight and powder to make rounds in the game more effective.
great video. I think you're very right. I use the base 243 still a lot, works well and free ammo. And got 7mm which works well for me. Good tips in general so won't really spend money on a 270 and 338 maybe.
Hi I recently got the game for ps4 and I updated it and now it's saying I'm not a user with access to the game and I can only play online but I don't have wifi at home , any idea on how to play offline ?
The dev team is fairly slow about fixing bugs. That being said, you get fantastic value for the money with the game and it's well worth picking up. If your PC can run it, I would suggest that platform since console seems to be lagging behind in terms of patches, bug fixes and content.
Crazybacon 996 i got it a few days ago. It runs well but sometimes it breaks. The ATVs are still really glichy especially in multiplayer. There are plenty of other glitches that are less fun but overall its definitely worth it especially to play with freinds cooperatively with the occasional competition. I game shared with 2 of my freinds that wanted the game so we can play together and cuz they really wanted it too... I waited like a year for it to come to xb1.... Worth the wait.
Hey MtnManGames, is there a guide for the different scopes? I always wondered if one could utilize the Mil-Dots. Also: Is there a source that explains the exact spooking distances if you are being seen or heard? Like full circle = 100 meters, small circle = 75, half = 50 etc. I am unable to find anything like that unfortunately. Thanks in advance!
Ok. Yards or Meters, pick one. You speak in yards but your game is showing meters? FYI, in the Store, under Ammo is where the effective ranges are shown. But still, i give you a thumbs up, You don't babble and give sound advice and accurate insight. Thanks for the upload!
Great video, very informative. Waiting for this game to drop on Xbox.. confident I will do well with info and tips received. I noticed in the bottom right of Ur screen, when u switched rifles there were different ranges.. so I guess that would be the effective range of that rifle.
Did they buff the lever action rifles since this video. I lure hunt ALOT. With the round tip 30-30 ammo. I am single shotting 100 % Integrity Elk with it and single shotting Bull Moose with a spine shot at about 80% quick kill if i need to. Still at no more than 100 yards or whatever though.
I’ve been dropping moose, and deer with the .243 Winchester! I’d prefer the 6.5 Creedmoor in real life though. My favorite rifle caliber in real life is the 30.06 Springfield and they should totally have this in the game. Hopefully they add many more calibers, 300 Winchester Magnum, 50 Beowulf, 375H&H, .338 Lapua! Also muzzle brakes, and suppressors and a high powered air rifle, and black powder rifle should be added.
I heard of this game~ but did not know if i should buy it or not idk if its a good game i live in Arkansas and go hunting alot but dont like to during winter
Only with in-game currency, Mr. Robot. As you kill and harvest animals you'll gain rewards in the form of experience, weapon skill points, and in-game currency; as your weapon skill increases, it unlocks higher-powered weapons, and you can then use your currency to purchase them in the in-game cache. No real money is involved in the unlocking and purchasing of weapons or gear in this game.
Great video, a good guide, but I would argue a little about placing the 7mm above a 338, I have shot a 338 and it won't drop as fast as said, at least the load I shot didn't, also, if 338 had more drop then why would snipers use it over a 7mm. Not saying 7mm is a bad cartridge, just that a 338 is most likely a better choice. I may be wrong, it really just comes down to powder, bullet weight, how the bullet is made, and what's shooting it.
It's uncommon, until recently there wasn't a factory gun loaded in it, so it was almost impossible to buy ammo unless you load it or know someone who does
Dat Sniper i ran into the same issue for the .30-378, no store carried ammo for it. You could still order it online very easily. I had to end up selling my .243 WSSM because they only do limited runs of ammo. And only one company makes brass for the .243 WSSM. The brass alone is $2-$3
You can get a 270 completely free... if you go on the Savannah map in an online server you get the 270 completely free because it's the starting weapon
Soft points, polymer tipped, and Hollowpoints expand when they hit the animal. Monolithic solids and FMJ do not. For field and other open, long shots; you'll want a standard soft point or a polymer tip. You'll get better penetration. For closer situations like timber or thick brush, you'll want a Hollowpoint because they hit hard and they dump the majority of their energy into the animal and usually don't go past the second shoulder.
I've used the .243 for moose and bison in the game the moose is harder then bison but bear are easy kills if your using the .243 aim for the spine of bigger game if you break the bone it'll die quicker the. Shooting it 10 or 12 times trying to get a double lung or heart shot.
This game is ridiculous where is my .50 BMG to hunt squirrel with?
McChicken OOF 😂😂 same tho
McChicken your a badass
And what about my 500 S&W magnum to hunt rabbits with. This game is terrible.
What about my atom bomb to hunt ants with
What about my moon to kill cockroaches with
Very good channel very few channels give tutorials that are actually good and don't get annoying so you are definitely a hidden gem
Thanks for the feedback!
And he gets right to the point
They need to add the 30-06 to this game
Crockett Buck and a .308
Crockett Buck and a 300wm
And just for shits and giggles .50
Crockett Buck they should I hunt with a 30 ot 6
I think they will add more shotguns like side by side, semi-auto or single shot and more animals like pheasants, rabbits, ducks and geese
So, whens the AR-15 Style Rifle going to be added
lol it would have a 0 integrity bonus on everything
I mean the m1 is pretty fast when you have recoil control perks.
Jd It’s a .22 base often used for deer hunting. Basically the .223 in game with semi auto fire
That would be nice, better than a pellet gun😂
@@jd1780 not really, a ar with 6.5 creedmore is a good all around deer gun
This was exactly what I was looking for, thanks for the great vid.
You're welcome James, I'm glad I could be of service!
The .270 will NOT give you 100% integrity bonus on fallow deers.
here i am shooting moose and elk with the beginer rifle like a noob...
Hey, you can take them down with the .243! You just need to have pretty much perfect spine shots from an elevated angle.
Christopher Kugel game came out on xb1 and ive killed a few moose with it and 2 bears. It came out for xb1 like a month ago and i got it a few days ago
This game makes the 223 look like a bb gun. It can kill pretty much any deer in North America
Christopher Kugel same here xD
Me and my friend didnt know about spine shots and were hunting bison with the .243 and one of the ones we killed had something like 42 shots in it when we harvested it lmao

Best guide I watched about the weapons in this game! And boy how many I watched... good job and big thx man!
The two that I carry are a .270 & the 7mm sometimes the bow also for quietness.
I just want to know which weapon has the best Range? Also the 338 is called Rangemaster so I thought it will reach further.
What is the difference between the 7mm regent and express or is it the exact same
Good guide. Thanks! :-)
Hey man, thanks! That means a lot coming from you!
MtnManGames I have used a 30-06 since I was nine
HooCairs TheHunter I am new hunter what I have to buy first?
Totally agree with you on the .243. I bought mine, a short bolt action varmint type gun, as a backup to my .270 but pretty much use it exclusively now because it's so easy to handle. Great for most hunting.

TRUMP 2020 I wish they made the 45-70 have a lot more power
You forget it's a video game. Compare the classic to the call of the wild and you can tell they added more video game like features such as the skill points.
It’s probably just for balance.
they ever going to add the Sharps rifle like in Quigley down under?
"hunting red fox can suck it" ...yup ;)
Hate hunting those little buggers!
Nice to have a review with reality as well. Thank you.
I feel like I might have the old version, because my weaopn menu looks much different. It doesnt show the ammo I have loaded and what I can take down with it, like on the video... how do I upgrade?
Bartosz Goskowski This was recorded in an older version of the game. The UI has since changed.
that sucks, the older version looks simpler
I have a question are those 101 guns with dlcs or without
JUST GOT THE GAME AND AM LOVING IT ! I had questions about the guns and you've answered them , I subbed and notifications on, good video ty so much !
270 + poly tip works well for everything. Good for all kinds of game, both short and long range. Also great to not have to reload after each shot!
243 is great for moose if you get the polymer tips and go for spine shots
Loving the series so far, really helpful. A topic I would really like to see is the proper way to hunt each animal, ie. how integrity etc is calculated, how exactly lures and calls work etc, have you considered touching that topic?
That is planned for one of the later videos. The goal is to go over basic topics in the beginning, and then make our way to progressively more advanced topics and techniques.

Mountain Man Games Nice to hear :)
They should add a 308
As far as i know are those triv sights not bugged, you need to aktivate them on most weapons by pressing your mouse wheel (or which key you have to toggle the scope off the weapon)
How does accuracy work like is it the holding your breath or how far it shoots or what
Just happened to stumble across this channel and I'm glad I did! You should definetely do some more gameplay, you earned yourself a new subscriber :)
how to reach this menue you are using? can´t find it .. or is it gone now?
Just picked this up on PS4 yesterday and have been checking out your videos very helpful can’t wait till I can unlock the 270 with a decent scope
It's only me or those gun sounds are lightyears better than we have today in the hunter? Looks more powerfull.
Why is the .270 in Classic a relatively weak rifle (which doesn't mean it's bad) but is comparable to the .45-70 in COTW?
Kinda late, but what is the difference between a 7mm Empress Magnum and the Regent? Empress is just premium and not locked behind rifle score from what the game shows, but I could be wrong.
I've been playing this for a while but I'm still sorta new to it but where abouts would I find some boars I've been looking and the deers and foxes are a bit boring at this time thanks if could help mate

Same as you. I go for 7mm. Use the default rifle till i get to buy that rifle. Totally worth it and it my go to rifle
So can you have every rifle with you when you go hunting or do you have to hunt a certain thing?
Christmas Ewok Theres a weight limit. The more you weigh you are slower, louder, and easier to see (backpack)
Posty Maloney oh well
The bullets show the effective range, not the weapons. Great video bro. Thanks for posting, def learned.
The .243 rifle will get you 100% integrity bonus on red fox if you use the soft point ammo
They really screwed up with the 270. It's in a position that's useless. It's too strong for black tail and too weak for moose and elk. It's pointless carrying around because if you come across a coyote or black tail you won't get the integrity bonus. I've just stuck with the 243 and 7mm the entire game. They need to fix it so it's as versatile as in real life
Great guide, soothing voice. Thanks for the tips. I'm skipping buying the 270 for the 7mm on your preference. Keep it up!
Might want to give 338 a chance, knockdown is the most important thing in a hunt, also most hunts I've seen people won't shoot past 150 or so.
What reshade is that??
We used the 243 for polymer tips for moose
Just started playing this game very good video
Is the 7mm a 7mm-08? I’m confused
can you toggle all the shiny way points, and footprints off? I want to play it as purist as possible
You sure can, you can turn off all footprints, tracking elements, and animal call overlays. Footprints and blood will still show up, but they won't be highlighted any more.
that sounds painful....
Hidden Emperor yes
I'm a bit late but I'm curious, are there any new weapons? It's March 2018 and I'm downloading this on Xbox one.
Here's a thing I either missed or haven't been told. The 0 - 4(5) animal vs gun categories, are confusing. Because sometimes you get punished by shooting an animal that should be in the category your weapon/ammo is, how come?
happy they finally made a reeeeal sucessor to the other NON arcade hunting games loved the ooriginal series
Typicaly the effective Range the rifle has is the middle range of the three ranges you can change it to!
thx you helped me out a ton. im playing on the xbox one and sitting here for an hour thinking about 7mm vs 30-30. integrity on the 7mm is trash for what i hunt but its cool cuz like you said i have the starting weapon for that.
Great video bro...no wait! Awesome video!
they putting muzzleloaders in this game
No idea, but I sure hope so! Some more weapons would be lovely!
xXxSavageEmpiorxXx Blankenship the need mosolaters
I like the .270 simply because it’s bolt action. I’m not a big fan of the one shot and then no chance at getting a second shot with the 7mm
looking for a ballistics report, bullet drop, windage.is there any?
I have hunted with a 30-30, if you use lighter grain higher power rounds (150-130 grain depends on your twist rate and barrel length) it works well at a maximum of 200 yards. It has around the same ballistic performance as a 7.62×39. It would be cool if you could adjust bullet weight and powder to make rounds in the game more effective.
The .223, as of Medved, is also the only rifle that's ethical for musk deer.
dude, these are great! thank you
You're welcome!
great video.
Which 7mm is better?
Nathan Arnold they are both same only difference is the color of it
Hey Mtnmangames I'm thinking about The hunter call of the wild. Should I get it or should I wait till most things are patched?
The dev team is fairly slow about fixing bugs. That being said, you get fantastic value for the money with the game and it's well worth picking up. If your PC can run it, I would suggest that platform since console seems to be lagging behind in terms of patches, bug fixes and content.
MtnManGames I have the xbox one s so should I wait a while and see if it gets better or just get it and see what happens cause I don't have a pc
Crazybacon 996 i got it a few days ago. It runs well but sometimes it breaks. The ATVs are still really glichy especially in multiplayer. I like how they give the choice of buying the .223 in case you can't buy the .22 DLC pack for PS4 and Xbox one for small game hunting.
.223 was in the game first lol
How awesome would a 17th century wheellock rifle be in this game?
Ok. Yards or Meters, pick one. You speak in yards but your game is showing meters? FYI, in the Store, under Ammo is where the effective ranges are shown. But still, i give you a thumbs up, You don't babble and give sound advice and accurate insight. Thanks for the upload!
Just got the game on Xbox. Great series of explanatory video. Great work dude. Now to get the 2 fallow deer at the cornfields.😕
Full of information, thanks a lot.
The 7 mag and 45-70 are power houses
The 243 is a lil pearler IV takin moose down with it
Great video, very informative. Waiting for this game to drop on Xbox.. confident I will do well with info and tips received. I noticed in the bottom right of Ur screen, when u switched rifles there were different ranges.. so I guess that would be the effective range of that rifle.
i assume this guide is still valid now in 2019
Federico Zanolin ehhh, essentially. For a more updated guide I would suggest watching Zaggidk or Flinter.
Or even JaxyBeard. He’s also very good at giving advice and guides.
"It will give you 100% integrity on fallow deer".

It's a fun game, but don't expect lightning-quick responses to bugs and game issues from the dev team.
Wow this looks completely different than the current version.
Yeah, the game has been through some UI revisions since this video was made.
Polymer tip 270 lung on bison I track them avg 200yrds
Might need to remake this vid now that all the dlcs have come out
Do you have to pay to unlock weapons?
Only with in-game currency, Mr. Robot. As you kill and harvest animals you'll gain rewards in the form of experience, weapon skill points, and in-game currency; as your weapon skill increases, it unlocks higher-powered weapons, and you can then use your currency to purchase them in the in-game cache. No real money is involved in the unlocking and purchasing of weapons or gear in this game.
Hey guys I have a great computer and can run all settings in ultra yet my game looks very poor compared to streamers...any help?
Thanks for the video :)
The 270 does not give 100% integrity on fallow
Great video, a good guide, but I would argue a little about placing the 7mm above a 338, I have shot a 338 and it won't drop as fast as said, at least the load I shot didn't, also, if 338 had more drop then why would snipers use it over a 7mm. Not saying 7mm is a bad cartridge, just that a 338 is most likely a better choice. I may be wrong, it really just comes down to powder, bullet weight, how the bullet is made, and what's shooting it.
Dat Sniper just got this game today, but isn’t the 338 on this game a 338 win not a lapua? I haven’t unlocked it yet so I’m not so sure
yeah, i've never even played it, but I havent shot lapua, what I was shooting was edge
Dat Sniper I’ve never shoot an edge, or know anyone in this area that has one. I own a couple Lapuas and they have some recoil to say the least
The brass alone is $2-$3
Good video and good info thanks!
Comment on the 30-06 if you have DLC content!
Doing a great job man 👍🏻
Interesting fact is that the 45-70 is used fo hunting moose, bison, buffalo and even elephants in the real life
The only thing that gets me is that the 45-70 is a lot more powerful than a 270 and arguably more powerful than the 7mm
Lol I use the .223 to take down anything from Roe deer to Bison
My first gun was a ruger American in 30-06
They still hasn't fix the tru-vision on 30-30 :(
shoot anything at the base of the ear and it will go down in less than 2 steps ,no matter what you are shooting.
Thanks for the info!
My 30-06 has four inches of padding on the stock and it has no kick at all and it knocks the deer over
John Roehrig mine has padding and I use a 150 or 180 grain
You can get a 270 completely free... if you go on the Savannah map in an online server you get the 270 completely free because it's the starting weapon
Can you explain the ammo types? For complete hunting dummies))
Trespassers W That's coming in a later video about proper shot placement.
308 is my go to for deer irl
