- Outlaw Run at Silver Dollar City was both RMC's first ground-up ride and first wooden roller coaster. This terrain coaster has a wonderful setting on a wooded hillside and rips through its course. Outlaw Run has a fantastic first drop, many great airtime hills, and three inversions. But is it still smooth?

outlaw run changed my son's view a feeling towards coasters.. . We are now addicted to coasters ., mostly thanks to Outlaw run!! this ride will leave you in tears and smile's .

I rode Outlaw Run for the first time this year and boy was I impressed. I have been on 12 RMC's, and
Outlaw Run is #3 for me behind only Steel Vengeance and Lightning Rod. It is my #6 overall coaster. Everything about it is really good and you get to ride it a lot because of what you said, the location of the coaster and it just doesn't get lines.
That's one of the biggest reasons I love Silver Dollar City. The marquee ride is always a walk-on even on a holiday weekend.
I went on this coaster last year! It was my favorite in the park by far.

I grew up in that area and visited SDC many times over that time. I never had the courage to ride coasters, other than Fire in the Hole that is. And my time was before Outlaw Run was in existence. I met my wife in WA state back in 2011 after a career in the US Navy's Submarine service, then onward to a final career as an industrial robotics engineer. Come to find out, my wife is a "coaster enthusiast, so we take a trip to Silverwood in ID where I ride my first wooden coaster. I'm hooked. On a trip back to the Branson, MO area, I finally get to introduce her to Outlaw Run just this year, 2023 and wow, what an incredible experience that was. Can't wait to return for a few more rides. On another note, RMC has replaced the track at the coaster in Silverwood so time to see how it compares to my first ride.

I rode Outlaw Run at night two nights ago and it was amazing!! Don't get me wrong, I was super scared but I was sooo glad I did it once I got off the coaster. I also got to see the fireworks when we were going up the lift hill. It was such an amazing experience. I highly recommend it.
Outlaw Run at night is incredible.
U made me appreciate this ride a lot more, I can start to see some of the crazy hype this ride gets although I do think some still overrate it a tad
I know you value pacing and that's this coaster's biggest strength.

I went on it for the first time today and it was insane. Loved everything about it and didn’t find it rough at all. Hence why even after leaving the park I’m still looking at videos!

One of my favorite coasters, what a ride! My first night ride was so shockingly dark that I reached out to make sure my nine year old was still in the seat next to me. Even with the park's GPS map app I had a tough time finding it, I laughed out loud when you panned down to the tiny "Outlaw Run" sign on the fence behind the giant Barn Swing entry. Rarely ever had to wait more than 10 minutes to ride it, so I guess it terrible layout and signage worked in my favor.
Night rides are legendary.

Rode it a couple days ago and I absolutely loved it! The airtime was so strong and the pacing was phenomenal. My personal favorite element is the drop when it goes under the lift hill. In my opinion this is the best airtime moment of the ride. I also talked to a ride op that said they got new wheels that made it not as rough. Didn’t feel rough at all to me.
I found it smooth in both 2018 and 2020. I love this ride.
Definitely going to sdc next summer, this looks incredible. Glad to see your subs growing at a faster rate! You'll be at 2k very soon.
Outlaw Run alone is worth it, but Silver Dollar City is one of my favorite parks.

Outlaw Run is such a master class in pacing and speed retention, and also has one of the best finales to a coaster. I kind of like that the ride isn't entirely glass smooth, the slight roughness I feel is what gives it the heart of a wood coaster.
I agree I don't mind the little shuffle it has. The sound it makes accentuates the ride's already crazy speed.

Silver Dollar City as a whole is amazing, but this is the star.

this coaster is my number two. Love it, and I rank it just one spot above the other RMC I have ridden Twisted Colossus. Never thought the ride felt rough. I love how fast the ride felt, (especially since I was riding in the cold.) and the ride being on the shorter side did not bother me because I would just get right off and do it again because there was no line. And its by far my favorite current night ride.
This thing flies in any weather.

Topper track has returned with the retrack of Mine Blower. Apparently, if the customer asks a client for topper track, it will happily be provided.
(Edited: The 208 track will go above the wooden layers, which will serve a similar purpose of topper track.)
208 is a different stack that is more steel.
I was there last week! I love this ride, this is definitely in my top 3 RMCs (mostly because of nostalgia) but still this ride hauls ass and doesn't let up until the final brake run. It's a little bumpy but it makes it feel like a genuine wooden coaster. I rate this ride (12/10)

Excellent review, and my thoughts exactly! It's hard for me to accurately explain why I love Outlaw Run so much, but you did the explaining for me. I lined this up for coaster credit # 100, with huge expectations, and I was still blown away. The question is, are you going to the ACE event in mid-November? I'm probably going, pending my work schedule. I still haven't had a night ride on this, and that needs to happen.
I can't go to the ACE event in mid-November. My family wants to celebrate Thanksgiving together and we all agreed to self-quarantine for 2 weeks leading up to it so we can.
I'm eying a December trip for their Christmas event so I can get more night rides.
I've only rode it at night. 2 times. It's about the limit of my fear. The drop that is. The rest of the ride isn't too scary.
Now if I can just find the guts to get on Time Traveler.
And I should have by now considering I freaking work at SDC!
This is more extreme than Time Traveler.
My personal number 5, not a dull moment and it's got some intensity. I have it just over Lightning Rod.
I prefer Lightning Rod myself, but both are among the best paced coasters in the world and share equally great settings.

I went to Dollywood Yesterday and Almost got on Lightning Rod since I happened to be Pigeon Forge that day. However it was closed for reasons you already make a video on
I'm sorry you missed out on Lightning Rod. Outlaw Run is 80% of Lightning Rod without the downtime at least.
edit on my original thoughts, rode it again today: still my number 2 and basically my opinion is mostly the same but one major difference, there is one spot on the track that is absolutely brutal, there is this pothole 2 thirds down the first drop. It’s brutal on your back if your on a wheel seat. So we just sat in the 2nd to back row and mostly alleviated the issue. all the others bumps I have no problem with. They give the ride character and that wood coaster feel.
I usually ride in non-wheel seats. I wonder if they'll add any steel track like Lightning Rod.
Oh also sorry pot hole is not in the right word. There a no such thing as literal pot holes on coasters. It’s the riding wheels slamming back into the track.
i rode outlaw run about 20 times over two days. After day 2 my thighs actually began hurt because of the airtime on the s hill and the hangtime on the second barrel roll haha, it was totally worth it tho
I went even crazier during Olde Time Christmas. On the second day I was there, this was the only major coaster open so I rode it a lot. I got over 100 rides on this coaster in 2020 even though I went to the park four times total.
After my first ride this year, I couldn't help but think "this isn't quite Lightning Rod"... but after a few more laps and some incredible night rides, it was pretty clear that the ride is still amazing in its own right. Videos don't do this ride justice, that first drop is definitely longer than how it looks on POVs
I find most POVs always make drops seem shorter.

Silver Dollar City posts the temperature limits online for their rides. You should have a good chance to ride it if you can get out there!
I've not yet been to Silver Dollar City, but it's' "best attraction" might be Time Traveler. While I've only ridden Steal Vengeance and Twisted Colossus; I might be wrong but feel safe to say: Of the four Wooden Coasters RMC built: the best two are Wildfire and Lightning Rod, with Goliath and Outlaw run tying for third place. (Goliath is better but WAY too short!)
Time Traveler is great, but it doesn't have the non-stop intensity of Outlaw Run. I love the layouts on the wooden RMCs outside of Goliath.
@@CanobieCoaster I actually meant to say that SV and TC are the only two RMC's I've ever ridden; I've ridden at lest 86 coasters in all; 11 of which are wooden. Of the 4 wooden RMCs I think I'd like Wildfire the most.

Just rode it for the first time today. Best night ride and probably best wooden coaster I’ve ridden. The only issue I have with it is the lap bars crush the ever living hell out of your thighs

Do not ride it in the dark if this is your frist time riding Outlaw Run it will mes you up I did ride it in the dark this was my second time riding it the frist time was in the day light when I Wrote it in the dark I came up feeling like My spine was whipped like a bullwip cause there is no way to brace yourself on the ride. Maybe I'll give it another try in the day light if I can Figure out how to brace myself on the ride.
Riding in the dark is part of the fun.
No way. I rode this the year it opened and it was a 100 times more rough then than it is now
I'm glad it's smoother.
I'm an operator for outlaw run, it's still a smooth ride after the drop in row 12 there is a pretty big bump, we don't call it a pothole but it's smoother than most wooden rides. It also depends on the day there are days it's smooth and days it's rough, I probably rode it about 300 times last season and am missing it so much.
Wow I never knew that the son of beast loop was made of steel. I guess that explains why people always say it was the only smooth part of the ride
I never rode Son of Beast, but multiple articles pointed out the loop was steel.
I think when ppl say the loop was made of steel they were referring to the supports, spine and ties, cuz the rails are either wood or steel that looks exactly like wood

Outlaw Run. If you're nervous about Time Traveler, ride towards the front for the first time. The drop in the back is the craziest part on Time Traveler.

It's possible. The article I saw said the Son of Beast loop was made of steel, but that could have referred to the supports.
Either way, I still don't consider that coaster successful in light of how it tore itself apart.

I would have rather seen the first inversion on the joker instead of that 1st inversion on the coaster

Outlaw Run beat Hades 360 by 2 months.

Coast Rider's shin guards are far worse than any other out there.
