Thanks for the mention Ash. As you say ran the whole marathon in a pair of Skinners. I had a pair of Injinji trail toe socks underneath. The crowds also pulled me through towards the end. My right leg was painful after about mile 18/19. Ended up running/walking. Kind of jeffing 🤷♀️. It was mostly when the crowds were calling my name that I ran. Crowds were indeed brilliant. I’m definitely up for another marathon, especially London. Have entered the ballot so will see.
Still revelling in the energy of the crowds they were so incredible. Well done on completing the marathon in your Skinners - THAT IS AN INCREDIBLE ACHIEVEMENT 🙌 Good luck for the ballot for next years LM too. I’m having a rest from training and going back to running purely for pleasure, as soon as the ultra is done next weekend. Well done on getting it done (as Ben Parkes would say) 😁
Ive come across and subbed from mark g channel. Love to find new running channels. First off congrats on achmtually beating the system and getting into london. Secondly you done it ❤
Actually I saw some of the live interview you did with Trail Running Phil - Phil Begnett a month or so ago. You've reminded me I need to catch the rest of that. I'm doing the Shires and Spires Ultra with him this weekend😃🏃♂
Luckily I got a brew before I started the video, so I was well prepared for the What Went Wrong section! 😁 Had a tear in my eye when the crowd got you going again. Hopefully you don't need them for the ultra mate 👍🏻🏃♂️ Best of luck!
Thank you Mark, glad you were brewed up to enjoyed the video. I know what you mean I was getting a bit emotional talking about how the crowd helped me to push through - still not sure how I got to the end. Then took me about 40 minutes to walk to the nearest tube station afterwards, and Jodie wasn’t too happy about driving home from the big smoke because I couldn’t control my legs very well to drive 🤣 Hopefully all goes well for the Ultra - I really hope you smash ‘The Spire’ too. You’ve put in some real effort for the training and you know its going to be epic on the day. Less than two weeks to go I’m so looking forward to your video after mate 👍
Congratulations Ash, you MUST do another one. Catch a ferry to Guernsey next year, that’s a great marathon and not too far, you’ll love it. I’ll see you on the start line!
Huge congratulations Ash!! That was a sufferfest and you powered through. Fantastic job!! Also, I just found your other channel and subscribed! Can't wait to watch all those vids.
Thanks Todd! It took a lot to get through that run 🏃 😬 but all good in the end. And thanks for subscribing to the Beau Luna Edvantures, labour of love that RV conversion is for sure! 🤣
Absolutely epic stuff, Ash! A great display of both character and cojones to push on through to the finish when all seemed lost! I might have got something in my eye when the crowd spurred you on and you got some much-needed family hugs 😢
Cheers TJ, I know the crowd were just incredible!! I was getting a bit emotional just explaining what had happened in the video. I was so up for the marathon I couldn’t believe the way it went at the end 😬 not so confident about the Ultra now - it’s going to be an interesting one for sure. Be nice if the weathers good 🤣👍
@@skinnylegsbarefootshoes Ash, I think the Ultra will be an altogether different experience entirely - not only can you take heart and learn a few lessons from a brave and gutsy marathon performance, but I reckon the varied terrain and therefore technique, will help you. If you're not planting your foot in the same way every single time, then as long as you don't get silly then there might be less chance that an injury could build up. Take some pride and inspiration from yourself too! I don't mind admitting that you've single-handedly inspired me to work harder to get over a long and debilitating injury and start running again. If you can do that for me, you can certainly do that same favour for yourself 😊✊
@@TJ_into_the_wild Thanks TJ that’s a wonderful comment and I really appreciate you taking the time to write it. It’s absolutely fantastic that you are running again too, I didn’t know you’ve had to take some time out. It’s horrible when you want to do something- like going for a run but your not able to - so CONGRATULATIONS on being able again 👍👌🏃🦶 You’re right about the Ultra being a different kettle of fish than a road marathon. So looking forward to spending a day in the countryside with a bunch of like-minded people running through pretty villages. When I signed up for it I was thinking ‘Right, I’m going to train like crazy, run it in barefoot shoes and smash my previous time’. With what happened at the marathon I’m now thinking I’m going to go and enjoy myself and if I get to the end and it’s any quicker that’s great 😀 Alllllso (longest reply even warning) your UA-cam name TJ Intothewild, have you seen the film ‘Into the Wild’? Freckin love that film! Just finished reading the book too, I don’t read a lot of books, but that one caught my eye and was very interesting 👍
@@skinnylegsbarefootshoes I think that's eaxctly the right attitude to doing the Ultra! It's a fine line between pushing yourself to get a good time and running for sheer love of it. I get the feeling you'll enjoy this one! I've had achilles tendinitis for the last 2 years (caused i think, by wearing 'normal' footwear for most of my life). Thankfully, I'm very slowly and carefully getting back in the game, and I repeat what I said - you've been a big inspiration and have helped me more than you know. Ah yes - Into The Wild! I read the book back in the 90's and saw the film when it came out too. Both had a profound effect on me, espcecially as I'm a lifelong outdoorsman. Really glad you enjoyed both too! My name on here and on Instagram (the only social media i'm on) is dedicated to the story 😊
Well done on getting through the marathon. On the glutes the run lunge is good to open up the hips. Also the single leg wall squat has been very useful for me to activate all the muscles in the leg at the same time. Got a cold last week, so on a run break at the moment, with a 20 miler trail race in the U.K in June, so hope to get back to training for that soon.
I hope you’re feeling better soon mate. Thank you for the advice too 🙏 I really struggle with moves like Pigeon and lizard - anything that tries to stretch the outside of my legs and hips, so I’ll give the stretches a go that you say. Thought I’d done ok with adding stretching and yoga into my training but it obviously wasn’t enough for this distance on the road. Good luck for your 20 miler in June 👍 I should be heading to Spain and Portugal in our campervan at the end of this month, but it hasn’t got any beds or a kitchen yet 🤣 I’ll have a bit more time on it once this Ultra is done. Where are you based? Are you coming to the UK specifically for the run?

Hey Phil, I ran it in old Adidas racing flats called Adizero Sub2. Should have done it barefoot shoes. Was all set to run in the Vibram Five Finger V-Run but my big toe sits on some part of the toe area on my right foot and gets uncomfortable running over 10 miles in them. Which is real shame as they would have been perfect otherwise.
@@Phil_J Could we’ll have had something to do with it. Maybe I overstrided or my body just wasn’t used to the cushioning. I know if I did one again I’d do it in barefoot shoes, but I’ve got no plans to do another one atm
