You're correct about the bat plant. Mine thrives all year round outside and it can get below zero degrees Celsius here in Aus. The white bat plant is the same, but much slower grower!!!!
Article: These are the 9 hottest rare plants you should get in 2024! Also article: a specific 800 year old bonsai tree 😂 This was extremely funny, thank you for sharing. I'd love more of you making fun of this AI nonsense
I'm one of the bonsai collectors out their and i wanted to shade a little light on that particular bonsai style. The sculpted part is dead wood carved from the living plant. trees living section is the outer rings of the plant and you can remove part of the outer rings in vertical strips and the rest of the tree will stay alive. The price tag is not about the species but the time care and age of the plant. A Master bonsai artist care and training of the plant will also add value to the bonsai. thanks again for all your great and fun videos.
As a younger bonsai nurseryman, it is encouraging to see such a resurgence of appreciation for the craft. I am two years into an apprenticeship with a traditional Japanese studio and it is as hard - and fulfilling - as it seems lol
The only time it'll be worth $300 is when the leaves are the size of your head. I got one from a friend as the nursery she was at was going to to toss it because the plant was too big to sell for $20 (I'min Australia so $20 is cheapest I've seen for). It's incredible how big they can get, I'm impressed with this one, the leaves are as big as my forearm but have plans to chop it as it's so top heavy it'll fall over and snap on it's own without the right support. Definitely a plant you want to grow on a moss pole (and since this one wasn't it was in danger of breaking anyway.)
Cacti collector here! Haageocereus tenuis is super rare because it's nearly extinct in situ, but the price tag is a bit of a hoax. It was picked up by news outlets in the US.
I suspect some Etsy dealers just overprice large specimens to sway people with not a lot of context. Obviously a newcomer won't buy a $2000 monstera albo mature speciman but it makes $50-$100 cuttings seem a lot more reasonable. The sellers fully well know that nobody's going to buy that plant at that price. I think it's well known that some restaurants do this to their menus, start with their priciest item to set the standard.
Hey Kaylee. Here in central Florida there was a local nursery giving away bat plants for free to every person who attended their Halloween event. Small plants, but....FREE. GIVING THEM AWAY....
in 2023 the Monstera Peru was officially categorized and it’s *Philodendron opacum* So call it a Peru if you like but like Rhaphidophora tetrasperma, don’t call it a Monstera.
Prostate is in reference to its growth pattern. To prostrate yourself is to bow down. In Tibet the Buddhist pilgrims walk towards Lhasa and with every step they make one step, bend to their knees and stretch out and lie face down (prostrate themselves) get up and repeat.
Strongly believe that for both azlanii and tortum they meant the variegated ones (tortum is listed for around 8k right now), if the article checked recent prices spiritus also might be referring to the variegated plant. They just don't know the difference between variegated and non variegated :)
I was reading an article the other day about the HOTTEST houseplants for 2024! First on the list was Hoya pubicalyx and I laughed through the whole article. I'm in the US and I can't even give away starts of my pubicalyx. PPP were also on the list, it was hilarious. I appreciate your roasts so much! Thank you for sharing!
Lmao at the typo in section talking about haageocereus tenuis. Came across an article referring to is as “prostRate” (minus the capital letter for the missing “r”). Plagiarism is bad and spell check is our friend, people. Lol
I don't know why but, "Can you imagine bringing your plant collection into your vet going like 'What do you make of this?'" has me laughing SO hard. Just imagining that scenario and the "Let me Google that for you" look the vet would give you, hahahahahaha
I mean, they could have saved the whole article by stating that these plants had those insane price tags at one point, but they are easily found and inexpensive now so it’s a great time to get what once was impossible to have. But obviously they know nothing about houseplants. This is why I watch UA-cam and don’t even google anything anymore. So much crap out there.
I paid a local lady 25$ for a cutting of her PPP and before i picked it up from her, I found a plant in store for 15$, so I had two within a week of looking 🤷
Bat plant $20 bucks, beautiful marbled pp $20 bucks azlani $20 bucks I paid @ big box haven’t seen in a hot minute tho. Spiritus cheap TC now. I have 2, 2foot tall tortum I paid $30 is fast grower! Big box store. I don’t do orchids and sure as shit wouldn’t pay more than $19.99 lol ;) I also don’t do bonsai lol don’t know many who do as they generally like being outside. Cactus don’t like me especially ones with a prostate 😅😅😅I have 2 monstera Peru and paid like $20 I’ve seen the variegated Peru for less than$40 each all prices are USA I sure as hell hope a new plant person doesn’t fall for this shit!!! 💩 thanks for sharing and a good laugh!!! ❤
I'm in Australia🇦🇺 New indoor plant mum here of only 18months and recent new sub. This has started my day laughing 😀😆🤣😂. Obviously AI generated list. Kaylee going through this list with her opinions and expressions so funny! Especially the prostrate cactus 😂😂😅 2of the plants I have bought in the last 6 months. The pink princess for $18 and the Alocasia azlanii for $5.50 . Just a little different then the AI list prices. 😂
I got an azlanii for $20. I did happen to kill it but that’s on me. left it too close to my window when it was 20°F outside and it for sure wasn’t humid enough for it.
Happy New Year Kaylee Ellen and Ben! Love your videos. Hope this year is going to go your way! I can't wait to try your fertilizer. Hope it will be released in USA soon. Any idea when? a guestimate?
Would love to confirm vets dont know anything about houseplants, because i work at one, and i had an image of your living wall as my desktop background in the surgery and the vet asked me if it was cannab!s 😂😂😂
Okaayyyyyy! I didn't know I needed to see this today buttttt it was needed for my soul! Kaylee your reactions are priceless and I love your pure reactions.. 🎉🎉😂💚
I remember buying a Tortum in a local garden centre and I had a similar exchange with the person m at the till. I think they were shocked at the price which from memory was £20. 😂
I don't know if it was Alocasia Azlanii, because they never label their plants properly, but I saw a few Alocasias matching that picture at my local grocery store for 14.99, so clearly that list is a little bit inaccurate lol
The Haageocereus tenuis is (was?) listed on a website for that price but it was short for "we wont sell it to you" according to the owner. Some cacti can be ridiculously expensive because they are slow growing, so if you cant a 50yo saguaro in your backyard you will pay the price. Fortunately most of them are easy to propagate by seeds and you can buy the rarest ones for pennies. BUT other cacti cannot be propagated by seeds. Hybrids, rare mutants or extremly rare species (know from a single autosterile individual) can still be very, very, very hard to get.
Errr 'bout that orchid.. never heard of it, but google says it's real. To me it looks like a generic (and dare I say rather boring.. sorry) Cymbidium from the flower shop that you can get for 25 Euros or smth.. so yea 🤷🏻♀
I have noticed when stuff is out of stock on ebay they put stupid prices on them which may explain some of the prices. I have heard of a lot orchids being that sort of money. If I remember correctly they were not hybrids. They can be a pain to germinate seeds and propagate, and they may have been wild. These are 20 plus memories and I've been asleep since then hence the vagueness. I do remember being told people were spending over a million on ming vases in Asia on their quarter of a mill plant and being very shocked. There is so many crazy misinformation crap online
great video! could you do a video on how shops and people with huge collections deal with pests and what actually works at making a collection pest free? I swear I've been dealing with fungus gnats for ages and I can't murder them no matter what. thank you

This is a great laugh.... and call me crazy but that Obliqua photo looks like Kaylee's very own plant from when she had the Orb. I only say this because of that dinosaur skeleton ornament....bUuuut I can be wrong.
I can't find enough information about this orchid! Articles about it insist that it has "nine petals and sepals" unlike usual orchids. Okay? I think the person who wrote it is misinterpreting the etymology of “philodendron”… “…derives from Greek: 'philo' means 'love' or 'affection' and 'dendron' is 'tree’…” It seems like they are interpretting LOVE and HEART to be the same?
Home Depot here in the USA are selling the Pink Princess for $20
😅😅😅 a creeping prostate cactus sounds fcking terrifying tbh 😂😂
You're correct about the bat plant. Mine thrives all year round outside and it can get below zero degrees Celsius here in Aus. The white bat plant is the same, but much slower grower!!!!

that's amazing I only practice bonsai as a hobby
I would like the author of that silly article to write my obituary!🤩
i think they meant to say prostrate wich means it has a "crawling" growth habit
Pink Princess $300. 😆 Our local grocery stores had 8" pots for $24.99 early November & on clearance for $9.99 by Thanksgiving. 🤣
But the $300 one cost $300!
Right 🤣🤣
Lmao.... I totally love your responses 😂

The article is from a Cambodian lifestyle section of a Hong Kong website. I wonder if this is in HK dollars, since they use the same $ symbol!
Absolutely. When you do the conversion, the prices make sense.
I think the spiritus that sold for 9000 was the stolen one from the san diego botanical garden and then sold before they could figure it out 😮😮😮
I don't know about Timbuktu but in florida I can get half of these "rare" plants for 10 Bucks and I still pass on them. lol
lol just got a 7-8 inch pink princess for 14.99 cad at Home Depot lol, an azlanii I got last year at that Home Depot for 7.89 lol
Saw a variegated pink micans on Etsy for 10K the other day-I’m convinced people with prices like this are just money laundering at this point.😅
Not least of which because pink micans is chemically induced like pink congo. SCAM.
Variegated tortums are going for quite a bit in the US right now maybe that’s how they got those numbers
omg the new office is so cute
I bought an Azlanii for $17 last summer.
I suspect some Etsy dealers just overprice large specimens to sway people with not a lot of context. That cactus bit was hysterical, I laughed for days 😅
Hey Kaylee. Here in central Florida there was a local nursery giving away bat plants for free to every person who attended their Halloween event. Small plants, but....FREE. GIVING THEM AWAY....
Was it Tacca or Bat faced Cupea? Both get called the Bat plant
It was Tacca@@angeliamccutcheon5107
I own a garden center in South Florida and we couldn’t give them away.
That orchid part is actually true. It is to this day still a very very expensive ranging at around $200,000
I've been growing orchids for several yrs and agree the prices should not be that high especially since there's tissue culture.
@@eltonfan62 absolutely!
Kaylee- “it’s my cats wanting to get in the door”
Me- “well let them in” 😂😂
I saw a young Spiritus Sancti before Christmas for $14.99 at a nursery 😂🇨🇦
The Philodendron Tortem is at Big Box stores now for $20.
in 2023 the Monstera Peru was officially categorized and it’s *Philodendron opacum* So call it a Peru if you like but like Rhaphidophora tetrasperma, don’t call it a Monstera.

my pet rabbit is called teddy as well and when you called your cat, my bunny looked up all confused, searching for the one who said his name 😂
I have indoor, 100% free-roam, litterbox trained bunnies too. Super fun!❤
A large pink princess with good variegation in 2021 in the US would sell for $1000ish.
Lmao at the typo in section talking about haageocereus tenuis. Came across an article referring to is as “prostRate” (minus the capital letter for the missing “r”). Plagiarism is bad and spell check is our friend, people. Lol
I'm in the US and I'm pretty sure I can find one in a 4-6" pot for maybe $50 tops. And thats a generous guess
I don't know why but, "Can you imagine bringing your plant collection into your vet going like 'What do you make of this?'" has me laughing SO hard. Just imagining that scenario and the "Let me Google that for you" look the vet would give you, hahahahahaha
Indoor plant nursery stores are closing left and right here in the USA. Too many stores and price drops causing them to go all poof…
😂😂 This is funny. Love how they picked 9 plants and then crammed in a bunch at the end 😂😂
"prostate" made me spit out my drink i was not expecting that 😂😂 and the mishmash monstera section was the cherry on top
Philo SS having heart shaped leaves had me in stitches, yelling 'it has what now😂' god help us all with this ai generated nonsense
It was to be expected, but damn the fertilizer sold out fast on Amazon.
I think every plant that article mentioned can be purchased in Florida for under $100 somewhere, somehow 😂
Got my tortum from a big plant store in Sydney a year ago for $13.98. to be fair, it hasn’t grown much, but it’s still alive.
Prostrate in botany is defined as a growth habit where the plant grows along the ground.
I got a decent PPP at the hardware store on clearance for $4 US. LOL Prostrate is a bad word to typo
I paid a local lady 25$ for a cutting of her PPP and before i picked it up from her, I found a plant in store for 15$, so I had two within a week of looking 🤷
Prostrate to lay flat or grow across the ground. Prone up right, standing up, growing vertically. Prostrate not prostate
This made me laugh a couple of times 😂
Bat plant $20 bucks, beautiful marbled pp $20 bucks azlani $20 bucks I paid @ big box haven’t seen in a hot minute tho. Spiritus cheap TC now. I have 2, 2foot tall tortum I paid $30 is fast grower! Didn't know I was crazy rich! My tortum was 7 euros for a descent plant (like potsize 9 cm).
I'm in Australia🇦🇺 New indoor plant mum here of only 18months and recent new sub. This has started my day laughing 😀😆🤣😂. Obviously AI generated list. Kaylee going through this list with her opinions and expressions so funny! Especially the prostrate cactus 😂😂😅 2of the plants I have bought in the last 6 months. add the Tortum to the $5 list at Bunnings
Ha ha... hilarious ...
I got an azlanii for $20. I did happen to kill it but that’s on me. left it too close to my window when it was 20°F outside and it for sure wasn’t humid enough for it.
I nearly choked on my coffee when you came across the “prostate” in the article 😂
Happy New Year Kaylee Ellen and Ben! Love your videos. Hope this year is going to go your way! I can't wait to try your fertilizer. Hope it will be released in USA soon. Any idea when? a guestimate?
At its peak, an Obliqua sold at auction for $38,000 US. By far the highest price ever recorded. It's true.
Obliqua would make more sense but not peru
Kalyee always looks so well put together, love the hair
I got my tortim at Wal-Mart for 19.99. I was really surprised to see one.
Kaylee, I think you missed your calling as a narrator! 😂
I'm still laughing at the cactus bit 10 minutes after watching this... 😂
BUMMMMMMER!!! I thought the jump to Amazon meant outside the UK… 😭😂 will still be patiently waiting!!
The article has the same depth as a junior high school book report.
Would love to confirm vets dont know anything about houseplants, because i work at one, and i had an image of your living wall as my desktop background in the surgery and the vet asked me if it was cannab!s 😂😂😂
Your newer style of merch is SO FREAKING COOL!
Okaayyyyyy! I didn't know I needed to see this today buttttt it was needed for my soul! Kaylee your reactions are priceless and I love your pure reactions.. 🎉🎉😂💚
Hii! Back again, askig about your orchids ❤
And then you hit us with the prostate cactus 😂😂😂😂😂
Got mine ppp from a garden center for less than 20 dollars. Varigation is shit, but at least there is pink lol
If it's AI it might be picking up prices in different currencies from the internet and putting dollars behind them.
The tortum at a green house in Canada is 14.99 😂
I can't wait to try your plant food. I'm in Canada 🇨🇦
you can actually get pink princesses in grocery stores for 2 euros a piece in poland 😭
I must know, what lighting are you using in your background of this video? It looks amazing!!! 😻
I remember buying a Tortum in a local garden centre and I had a similar exchange with the person m at the till. I think they were shocked at the price which from memory was £20. 😂
Ha ha. I got mine for free from a local seller who couldn’t get rid of it. I bought some anthurium and she just threw in the tortum.
I don't know if it was Alocasia Azlanii, because they never label their plants properly, but I saw a few Alocasias matching that picture at my local grocery store for 14.99, so clearly that list is a little bit inaccurate lol
I just got an adansonii mint for $15. Insane steal!
16:01 I am dead ☠️☠️☠️☠️😭😭😭😭 that was fckn hilarious, I lol’d and spit out my coffee !😂😂😂😂😂
” it does say that, I swear it does say that”
They need some serious fact checking.
The Haageocereus tenuis is (was?) listed on a website for that price but it was short for "we wont sell it to you" according to the owner.

At one point on 2021 they were around 300-500. But I NEVER saw one for 1k
The tortum philo is literally $15 at my nursery 😭😭😭😭😭
Lol I bought my Alocasia Azlanii for 3€ 😂
The bonsai and orchid seem like they could actually be legitimate.
I have noticed when stuff is out of stock on ebay they put stupid prices on them which may explain some of the prices.
I have heard of a lot orchids being that sort of money. If I remember correctly they were not hybrids. They can be a pain to germinate seeds and propagate, and they may have been wild. There is so many crazy misinformation crap online
Pink princesses with good variegation are like $15 on Facebook marketplace lmaoooo
Cat hair nose-I feel you! It’s part of my daily routine waking up to de-fur the end of my nose from my babies 😜
obliqua is still super expensive over here though, etsy's pretty much the only option. they just aren't here
great video! could you do a video on how shops and people with huge collections deal with pests and what actually works at making a collection pest free? I swear I've been dealing with fungus gnats for ages and I can't murder them no matter what. thank you
Prostrate not prostate!!!! Meaning to lay flat, as on the ground. OYE!
Hahah my tortum cost me fifteen quid.
Prostate willy cactus 🤣
I’m seeing this article hosted by a Hong site. Also, the author appears to be Cambodian. So, is it possible they were so lazy and irresponsible that he/she wrote it in Cambodian (Khmer) or Chinese, then translated it to English for the rest of Hong Kong and/or whoever else? For example: the word “fenestration” translated to Khmer, then back to English is “festival” haha and “fenestration” translated to Chinese and then back to English is “open window” 😅🤷🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️
Also, maybe the money is in a different denomination.. I have been to HK and the ratio to the US dollar is wild…
Pink Princess $1000HK = $127.87US
Alocasia Azlanii $300HK = $38.36US
Spiritus $9600HK = $1227.60US
I’m just fascinated by how horrible the article is lol
I think you might have got it 😊
This is a great laugh.... and call me crazy but that Obliqua photo looks like Kaylee's very own plant from when she had the Orb. I only say this because of that dinosaur skeleton ornament....bUuuut I can be wrong.
She inserted the pic while talking about it, since only an Adansonii was shown originally in the article on Monsteras.
Do you have any experience with Philodendron Mayoii or Mayoii x Squamiferum hybrid? Looks very pretty.
I just got a tortum for 24.99 lmao the prices are unreal they are portraying
I wonder if folks will repopulate the spiritus in the wild now that we have the capability
Probably not. They have the opportunity with a few plants (silver sword is one endangered in the wild one I immediately think of) but haven't so far.
No way that crappy cymbidium orchid went for that much moola.
I can't find enough information about this orchid! Articles about it insist that it has "nine petals and sepals" unlike usual orchids. Okay? So somewhere there has to be a photograph in which the flower structure doesn't look like a normal cymbidium? Or a diagram? It all feels very emperor's new clothes to me.
I think the person who wrote it is misinterpreting the etymology of “philodendron”… “…derives from Greek: 'philo' means 'love' or 'affection' and 'dendron' is 'tree’…” It seems like they are interpretting LOVE and HEART to be the same?
That haaaaair, though! 🔥
TLDR RE: the orchid: I'm pretty sure it's just a very complex, intergeneric hybrid, and that's the "manmade" part of it.
Prostate, or prostrate...big difference ;)
😁
😂. Very good, thank you Kayleigh
I’m nearly certain that this article made sense in another language but they tried to just directly translate it to English… and it is an epic fail.
And I bet the prices are also in another type of dollar.
I've been wearing your merch like i get paid to do so lolol
