Pat Smith is my wresting coach at Blue Birds wrestling in Arkansas. It's such an honor to have him as a coach, he's one of the nicest guys you will ever meet.
I’ve heard quite the opposite. I’m sure he’s a nice guy, but not on the mat. Chris Pendleton said that he was monster on the mat, he said he was vicious. Pat Smith beat Pendleton so bad, he knocked out some of Pendleton’s teeth in practice. I don’t know if I’d say he’s mean, but I wouldn’t call him soft, he’s really tough
Holy cow I forgot how good this match was. I'm used to the magic those Smith boys had on the mat, but Tom Ryan looked so naturally athletic on those takedown counters, and his strength in those crazy positions was ridiculous. I didn't follow enough wrestling back then to see if he did anything in freestyle.
Wow, I have this on VHS at my mom's house somewhere. I haven't seen this since 1991 but I remembered all of it as I watched it today 29 years later. What I didn't remember was I was watching future Ohio St coach Tom Ryan as a wrestler. That's pretty damn cool...
Even though I’m not an OKST fan, I can’t argue with that. The only other family that even had a chance to do that is the Sandersons. However Cael would go on to be a legend, and his brothers didn’t do anything like what Cael did
Please don't repeat this stupid saying. Cheating doesn't have anything to do with trying, but everything to do with integrity of the sport and the individual.
The match is long over with and you are right his back was exposed... but he should’ve got hit first for pulling on the headgear as Ryan went into his sit out. This happened right at the point you are talking about. He’s grabbing the inside of the headgear. Not trying to have a big argument... just playing some devils advocate!
One of our all time great wrestlers, but lately has become a whiny B during NCAA matches! Let the boys wrestle, and stop looking for cheap ways to win!!
Wish they aired the entire match on TV.
This was an exciting and legendary match up.

Hope you're doing well in Arkansas.

Great wrestling by both men -- tremendous match!
Such an insane match to watch knowing what was on the line and how great both wrestlers are

The Smith family best wrestling family ever

5:15 watch him pull his head gear. If you ain't cheating u ain't tryin
Hahaha.. I wasn't going to mention this, but since you did: yeah, Pat was pretty sneaky. :-)

I want to see the semi matches the two years he had Scotty Hovan and went into OT (both times I think)!
Should have been at least two back points for Smith in the 3rd period. Glad he won and rightfully so.
Watch also tho how he pulls Ryan’s headgear
6:08 Gable trys to fly.lol
dan gable is saying " NO WAY NO FUCKING WAY!!" hahaha x)
Epic battle.
Gable said..."No Way! No Fucking Way!" Look at his mouth.
Stanley Charles that's what you call passion!!!!
Can’t watch, audio screwed up
5:27 pat smith should’ve gotten a 5 count almost, was exposed and close to the mat the entire time, at least 2 points

Better than you ever did.
NO WAY that wasn't near fall in that seat belt position.
His only obstacle was Kenny Monday. Pat Smith gave Monday as close a match as he ever had in international competition.
Busavair satiev ask him about him
any videos with the Steiners from this era?
Rick W. sorry. No.
Mark Shawn boo. Lol.
I met tom Ryan at an FCA camp
How was he?
cool
My left ear enjoyed this

EPH 2:8-9 !
The score was wrong this entire match... Smith scored first, not Ryan. The final should have been 8-5
SMITH SINGLE BITCHES
