In case you’re wondering... So the mini bag + bones with a silver foil thing over the blue part. The pharmacy peels it off and pops off the vial top and add the together. We use it in hospitals because the bag is good for 15 days once connected before tubing is attached. so if the nurse doesn’t use it then it can be reused for another patient. I’m not sure why you’re home med company would send it it to you.... especially if you guys know how to mix meds yourself....

I remember when this system first came out, many years ago. The nurses were being trained on it in the hospital when my dad was on it. I remember one old nurse cursing about it when she couldn't get it to work. Such wonderful memories! Good luck!
On day 2 of 6 week home infusion. Doing a 24 hour pump for first time. My nerves have been shot doing it each time because it's so new. Thank you for posting this. It's such a comfort to know your not alone. Many blessings. 🤗❤️🌺

The only thing I can think of is that, as you know, a suspension has to be mixed. I think what they've done is a completely closed system to avoid mistakes and/or keep it sterile. Just a guess. 😀👋
Yes, it is about a closed system. There are so many ways to contaminate the solution in a transfer system. That is why I was so glad you are at home. Hospitals =noscomial infections. Hang in there and adjust. 😁

Wow I never seen that kind before. The nurses always made me use the darn pole what a hassle the way you do it is awesome. I love it and it makes so much sence. Mary and Peter you both figure things out together, so nice to have the s eccond opinion and the seccond person to just be there to help seccond set of eyes. Lol your both so funny I love watching you.
When I was on home IV the command adhesive hooks above my head to hang bags/balls was GOLD!!!

just did a bit of a google on "the mini bag+ system".It is what's called a closed sterile intervenous system, apparently, it is a system used to eliminate the risk of un-sterility, which can lead to line infection and possible sepsis.

The mini bag plus is great you have mix it at home due to stability issues! Once you mix the powder of the drug in the solution it’s only stable for a few hours!

Mary, a year or two ago, you said your lung bacterias were resistant to antibiotics. So , are these new types of antibiotics? Or are the doctors just trying the same ones again?
What's the difference between oral and IV antibiotics? Obviously you take them differently but if you're taking an oral antibiotic already, couldn't you take the other one orally? Or why not do both via IVs? I hope I don't sound ignorant lol I'm just curious

Tip from a nurse who has to use these dang antibiotic bags 10x a day- if you pump the bag quickly by squeezing and don’t wait for the air to reload it’s super quick. Hope that makes sense!

The home health care always used to send IV poles for my daughter, too! We have so many of them in my basement that I posted 𝐅𝐑𝐄𝐄 to good home online, but no one wants them. Do you have a place where you drop off access medical supplies? I can’t find a place that will take them.
Maybe Médecins Sans Frontières will take them? In Germany they don‘t take meds but I imagine it poles could be useful for them! Or a hospice in your area?

I am gonna say all the packaging is to keep things sterile. Many people do home ivs and could be a severe immune deficiancy situation like maybe last days with 24 hr nurse care or hospice and really need things sterile. Hoping the full dose does good things for you.
I work in pharmacy and one of the reasons why they provided you with a mini bag plus is because certain medications has a short stability only good for 24 hours after reconsutition. So instead of them delivering to your house multiple times a week. They have done it this way. There are a few more that I know of,but I will leave it off there..
Want Don't but they were able to do it the other way with the eclipse balls for the same medication over the past week, just on half the dose!
@@eafj90 different doses can result in a different expiration. Like I said before there are a lot of reasons why they choice that system.

I think this kind of bag is for people that aren't familiar or don't want to have to mix it, maybe cause they are afraid to make a mistake and all.
It can be scary to handle medication when you're not used to it! :)

Why not sell all those coolers and icepacks for the cost of shipping plus a bit extra to compensate you for your time, effort and gas to take it to the post office.
In our community, we have a "put and take" where people can drop off things they don't want or need and anyone is welcome to take what they can use at no charge.
Some people make a nice second income selling what they find there.
Some people have a problem with that, but most of us are just happy to see our castoffs helping others.
I'm a nurse and we use the same drug admin kit...it is quicker and less room for errors is why they package it....but would be better for you to have the balls as would be more portable I think...
I HATE flow rate dials!!! We used them a lot in ER veterinary medicine when we didn't have enough IV pumps. They're a pain in the booty 😂😂
I have used those with my husband before and the whole time you were trying to mix that I just wanted to jump in show you. They make it easier for people with no medical experience at all, but yeah in your situation so not necessary

Doesn't it just get to you that they seem to make it so hard with these medicines? I asked them once why they did not just combine them already. They said because some are used for other things and makes it more expensive if they do that. OH well...we get by don't we :). I remember when all those piles of individual injections of blood thinner came in and I thought omg and felt over whelmed at first. So we keep all that out of my bed room and in another space. Trisha B bc she can’t clear her lungs properly so infection sets in making her need antibiotics to try to get rid of the infection.
Because CF patients produce tons of extra mucus which harbors infections that are hard to get rid of.
