I was born there. It has lots of Mormons. I used to clean the stake center that was torn down where the temple now resides. This was back when they PAID people to clean their buildings. We poor Mormons in the area could get jobs cleaning church buildings. Now, instead, they have ornate temples, and buildings are cleaned for free by members via rotating callings.
Cleaning the buildings provided jobs for moms that was flexible and could be worked while their kids were at school helping families get by. Now they want you donate to their stock funds and work for free.
@@Thomas123-c1v cleaning your own room is presumably going to benefit “you” almost exclusively. The church has literally billions of dollars and could hire the cleaning done, which would support cleaning crews in the community.
@@jessicamertz1454 Really? Cleaning your own church for your own Sunday meetings does benefit you, your neighbors, and your church community. Swing and a miss. Do you cook your own food? Why you could support an in home chef crew in the community if you hired that work out because you probably have more money than 80% of the world. Swing and a miss. Why do you care- do you clean your own church building or are you here just to throw up dust on this conversation?
Thousands of people come to see this display on the evening of this event every year. It is always so beautiful and such a positive representation of the diverse cultures in this area! People wait in line for hours prior to the event, it is so popular. I really feel bad for those who visited this year.
One more tidbit of info I learned tonight: one of my friends works at this college. All employees were instructed to ensure all building lights were turned off, including shutting down laptops, so as to not distract from the display. When this friend walked through the luminarias that night, she said the lights from the temple completely ruined the experience.
I’ve lived in Farmington for 32 years. I look forward to the display every year. I grew up LDS and we would all help at the stake center by making luminarias for the stake center sidewalk and parking lot to complement the display. We would have hot chocolate at the institute bldg and then walk the display together when high school/college age. I was so disappointed this year. The backside of the college was beautiful but the front facing the temple was not the same. Made me sad. The church had a lot of talks with SJC before the temple was being built and SJC, among other things agreed to stop serving alcohol at business functions and special events. I would be surprised if the luminaria display didn’t come up.
I feel like I have PTSD over the losing of night skies. JK not JKing. At the worst, my neighbor had 56 lights on their house all year round. About 12 of them were flood lights. Now they are down to 2 of the floodlights and 3 bright driveway lights on. I live on over 1 acre as do all my neighbors. We have completely lost the dark skies of our back yard. It is distressing at this stage of my life.
Heber limited the Smith’s sign to 30 feet with very specific lighting requirements unlike the temple that was allowed 212 feet lit up like a wedding cake. Signs are far more regulated than religious buildings.
I'm sure they will cry persecution when people complain.
Always!
No end of persecution.
Despite NO END OF ADVANTAGES, CONCESSIONS, AND CELEBRITY SYCOPHANCY.
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Gauche Is GAUCHE. 😢
And most always, LESS IS MORE.
Please send this to Fairview’s mayor.
I would think temple lights at night, really disrupt nocturnal wildlife.
That was one of the concerns that was brought on the Fairview town council meetings regarding the temple there.
Yes, that's what the residents of Camas, Washington are upset about. The proposed temple would be directly under one of the major avian flyways.

You sound like my kids... you have money, cars, etc.... and I HAVE TO CLEAN MY OWN ROOM!

You are correct, the open house has not happened yet.

The girl on this podcast to me resembles Carol Makita… anyone, Bueller…?
Oh my, MCDONALDS sign is too bright for my neighborhood also, so make a video or two, right?
You seem to be equating the garishness of a McDonald's sign with the garishness of a lighted temple. You get a cookie...
McDonald’s wasn’t founded by a pedophile.
