    I had to come back and say I just visited Cali for the first time a few weeks ago and made sure to hit this road because of this video! Granted it was in a rented cage (and I later made the mistake of going down the Nate Harrison Rd...), but still, happy to have seen this road first hand!

    lmao I love the speedometer in the bottom right. I just kept watching it and laughing. Keep ideas like that coming. It's refreshing.

    OMG! You're really good at this leaning thing...my biggest fear. The only 2 times I rode Palomar, I was scared out of my mind...good thing the road was clear of most traffic that day. It was a real eye-opener and even as slow as I rode it, I felt like I could do anything after that. Nice vid!!!

    Awesome video as allways Nick! Love the multiple camera angles! I've been drooling over the new GoPro Hero 3's specifications, and I'm seriously considering getting one. Being able to remote control it via it's wireless remote or a smartphone is a very smart idea on their part!

    I love Palomar Mountain! Never done it on my motorcycle but I've done it a lot in my car. 78 east out to Julian is a pretty great road, too.

    What you stated has variable involved. The right gear is designed to reduce the injuries involved with blunt force trauma. Not completely eliminate injuries, but to reduce them.

    I ran the Dunlop 211 GP-A tires at Buttonwillow last time I was there with a 190/60 rear and they were by far the best track tires I've ever ran.

    Back protectors? Chest protectors? Airbag suit? Neck protector? You can buy special pants with hard hip protectors? All suits come with padding and protective armor which in a good suit will cover the full length of arms and legs. You might get a couple bruises, maybe even a fracture or broken bown, but nothing completely serious unless you go off a ledge or a car runs you over. I had a buddy that crashed into a guardrail doing 80 and he only fractured his ankles. He's out for a couple weeks...

    A lot of people think wheelies on the street make you a squid. Some people even think dragging knee on the street makes you a squid. Both of which can be done safely or dangerously, in my opinion. Ride smart!

  • @RedlineScream
    @RedlineScream 12 років тому

    Surely Quicker Until I Die, that's what squid means to me. It's an attitude, and as far as I'm concerned, attitude is one of the most important things out there. There's no place for pride or ego on the road, or on the track. Wearing gear is only a fraction of the No Squidding ethos..

    that's true. i was filming my buddy last week and he lowsided into a guard rail. he was wearing boots, helmets, gloves and a one piece. he was doing about 80-85 and he hit the guard rail head first. when i got over to him i knew he didn't make it...i did cpr anyway and unfortunately we couldn't get him back. but honestly, he died doing what he absolutely loved more than anything else and i don't think he would have wanted to go out any other way

    If someone were to say wear all the protective gear but do wheelies occasionally would that render them a squid? it's just to much damn fun...I can't stop myself lol! I even did it on my friend's 250 he let me borrow for a couple weeks haha

  • @Ro6entX
    @Ro6entX 12 років тому

    Oh to answer Dan's question. I'd rather wear full gear in any weather then wear non-protective gear. I made that mistake once and it was pretty painful (this was years ago too).

    You obviously don't realize that there are sometimes dangerous factors involved in motorcycle accidents that the rider doesn't control. Even if you're "riding to the conditions" there's still chance of getting into a serious accident and suffering injury. Most of the time it's injury that could be avoided by wearing the proper gear. No matter how selfish you are (and you seem very) there are still going to be other people on the road so you need to respect and prepare for the unknown.

  • @nickgnaime
    @nickgnaime  12 років тому

    A squid on a motorcycle has many different definitions...but it almost always describes an unsafe, an unprepared, and/or an uneducated rider.

    No amount of gear will protect one from blunt force trauma.

  • @TraumahawkTV
    @TraumahawkTV 12 років тому

    We're not forcing people to wear gear. We're just implying that it's a better decision. Obviously people are allowed to make their own decisions in life. I would rather myself and others wear gear, as in the chance of an accident there would be less injury.

  • @Mikes1800
    @Mikes1800 11 років тому

    What about these items? Are you saying they will prevent your death on a bike? I suggest you read the latest NHTSA report. Good news, rider injuries are down. The bad news, rider fatalities are up from 2010 to 2011. Projections for 2012 show a continued increase in fatalities. Based upon the average number of miles traveled by every type of vehicle on the road, in 2011 as a rider you were 30 times more likely than a passenger car occupant to die in a motor vehicle traffic crash.

    Sorry, man. Have to call bullshit on this one. It depends on how much force, of course, but had I not been wearing gear the other day when I went down, my face and shoulder would've been broken. It can't hurt to wear gear.

  • @Ro6entX
    @Ro6entX 12 років тому

    Cool video again Nick. I read a post from you few days ago and you said something about going down so hopefully you were okay. I gave you a Get Well mention in my video yesterday, hope you check it out, let alone the others. Okay, that's it for shameless self promotion by me lol.

  • @Mikes1800
    @Mikes1800 12 років тому

    Call it whatever you like. I made no comment regarding the wearing or not wearing of gear. I simply stated a fact, not an opinion. And judging by nickgnaime's response, an obvious one.

  • @Mikes1800
    @Mikes1800 11 років тому

    If you had taken 3 minutes of your time to visit my channel and another minute to check out one of my videos (of which I have hundreds) you would realize how ignorant your comment was and perhaps not have embarrassed yourself here. Or not.

  • @nickgnaime
    @nickgnaime  12 років тому

    Don't thank me. You're missing the point.

  • @Mikes1800
    @Mikes1800 12 років тому

    Not much of a discussion if one can't state facts without eliciting a violent response. The opinions expressed here perpetuate a myth that wearing gear somehow makes one bulletproof while engaged in risky behavior. It also belittles those who choose not to, for whatever reason, by calling them names like 'squid'. I do not look for agreement or acceptance, certainly not from one who suggests I get a kick in the teeth. I simply stated an obvious fact, one you have already acknowledged. Thanks.

  • @lifeisgood070
    @lifeisgood070 12 років тому

    To be honest, it's not like he is going door to door trying to convert peoples religion. He just posts youtube videos & tries to sell a product that I think helps unite our community. His expression is simply an opinion. He doesn't give long lectures about it. He doesn't constantly make vlogs about it. He just posts a picture and videos of twisties. It's pretty hard to get offended at something so moderated. Best of luck to you.

    Great video, you direct a standards for motorcycle videos with positive energy, check out my last video on my channel, im interesting of yours opinion.

  • @nickgnaime
    @nickgnaime  12 років тому

    Of course it's an obvious fact. An 18 wheeler will crush your head even if you're wearing a helmet. However, any person that brings up that fact during any discussion about how a motorcyclist should or should not wear the proper gear is worthy of a kick in the teeth. That's also a fact. Have you laid a motorcycle down? Do you understand that your saying things like that and expecting agreement/acceptance might harm people that haven't?

    494andrew you need to realize that you are being more hurtful to the conversation of gear than you are being helpful. Many people will see your argument and think you are against wearing gear. That's just how it is. If you argue that gear isn't going to save you rather than gear is a good idea, you are sending the wrong message...no matter how logical you think you are being. Be a positive influence on anyone reading rather than a nuisance to those of us trying to make a positive impact.
