Technically the Yellow Submarine Album is in the set. They put the tracks on the mono masters lp. It was the first time they ever released the mono mixes. It just doesn’t have the George Martin score from the film.

Buy the CD Box Set Mono. Sounds much better then Vinyl, digital doesn't lie / anyway, the source for the Vinyl is digital for sure because the master is a 2009 Remaster with digital equipment within. Do you think, that would be better in sound? - Giles Martin puts everything into Apple Logic Pro & Protools Digital Audio Workstations mainly on an iMac, Macbook Pro or the new MAC Pro with excellent AD/DA converters.

Bought this for 300 €, shipping included, in 2014. One of the best purchases of my life. Around the same time I bought a UK first press of Abbey Road and an early US press of Let It Be (gatefold, non-laminated). I got almost everything The Beatles have released on vinyl, AAA, save for a couple of tracks that are digitally sourced because the original tapes were erased in 1962 or 1963. I paid some 400 € for the whole thing and I don't regret one bit. It's one of the holy grails of my relatively humble music collection on physical media.
Great review! I’m SO glad I ordered one of the Beatles mono box sets in 2014. No details were spared, even the old Parlophone label on “Please please me”. It also sounds phenomenal, and are probably the best sounding versions of the mono Beatles records, and the book is killer! Thanks for the excellent review!
The Geek = The Beatles are an iconic very special band in many ways.- The fact ( not alternative facts! ) that I listen to the FAB 4s Music from my childhood till now is mind-blowing. I like so much diff. styles in music but the Beatles are never boring. - For Example: I am doing an Electro Album with much instrumentals, some vocals - I hate boring simple house-music, it has to be psychedelic or / and melodic in a reduced way comparing it with "normal" song constructions. - But when I lose my feeling for how put my electronic tracks in order on an album, The Beatles help. Listen to the white Album, Sgt. Pepper or Abbey Road and I am inspired from a complete different kind of sound. - In the end it's not that different - it's only music, which is my Life. Always a joy to read your comments. Cheers ... you do a great job! 👍🏿
So happy for you getting this collection. Like you I wasn't really into mono Beatles, but very much appreciate these new versions. You really can't say enough about the packaging and the book that is included. They really did a top flight job with this set. Thanks for the preview.
Hey Mr. The Geek - I 'm mainly always with you, reviewing Beatles Recordings. - Only I bought the Mono Recordings as CDs. - My personal opinion on Vinyl vs. Digital is: Digital never lies, Vinyl could bring some noises & artificial disfunctions to it on the physical way. - Anyway, a Vinyl Record is a Masterpiece in terms of size & feel to the big big hardware, I was grown up with. - But sound wise the digital CD or even the new MP 3/4 algorithms are hardly to separate from the higher solution CD versions. - I am in the music producing process for 25 years now, starting very young.- I am a true "middle-ager" starting at 1965 hearing "I want to hold your Hand" with only being 4 years young & I was blowing away from that energy the "4 Headed Monster" (Mick Jagger) was spreading to my ears. From that moment I am a hardcore Beatles Fan. Waiting for Giles Martin to remix ( not remaster!!) Revolver, Rubber Soul etc. I love the power sound of the mono recordings especially on Revolver & With The Beatles. The drums is in the middle (Bd. / Sn.) - It is great to hear this music in mono. - George Martin once said: "We needed 2 to 3 weeks for the Mono Mixes of an Album, 2 to 4 days for the Stereo Mixes." - Though this music is mainly made for Mono Music. - But I will be very satisfied, when Rubber Soul would have a great new Giles Stereo Mix - I am waiting ... ;-)
Great review! Could tell you had fun doing it. The Beatles have a way in bringing out pure joy in people. Anyway, IMO, The Beatles Mono LP Box is the crown jewel of the entire vinyl revival! I mean this box set looks & sounds great, and is cut 100% pure analog. Get one before they are gone!
I was really impressed with that book too when I got the set. You can get your daily exercise just getting a record out of that heavy box! The foam inside the box is just the right kind to repair 8 tracks too (if you're into that).
The Beatles are (and will always be) the standard by which all rock and roll bands are measured. Fittingly, this mono reissue campaign is the standard by which all others will be measured.
My favorite part about the box set other than presentation as a whole is how much fun it is to sit down and listen to the original 1st pressings that I have of these albums versus the new 2014 mixes that were made for this boxset. I would give it a 10/10. If you are a true Beatles fan and you wanna experience them all in mono without paying thousands upon thousands of dollars to hunt all of them down in the uk, this is the second best option.
As always, great video and great buy too! Got mine about two weeks ago and I'm absolutely blown away by the sound and the whole quality of the box set. Such a pity that they haven't put as much effort in the making of the Stereo-Box.
Excellent video ! I got the Beatles mono vinyl box set in 2014 ! It’s one of my most treasured items in my collection ! I had the same trouble with the Magical Mystery Tour Album book . Part of it came apart from the staple
So glad you got to this and that's a bummer about the inner to The Magical Mystery Tour. I think I cracked mine open once to play it but I haven't pulled it out since. I do agree completely with your assessment. Now I look forward to individual album reviews. At least ones that you may not have hit on before.
When the Capital 'Magical Mystery Tour' album was officially released in the Uk (1976) they no longer stapled in the booklet - It was slipped inside the front sleeve instead.

MMT is meant to be stored with the spine towards the bottom of the box, so that this doesn’t happen.
My brother gave me The Beatles U.S. Albums Box Set on CD. What's great about it is that it has the mono & stereo versions of every album up to (and including) Revolver. It also has the album Hey Jude aka The Beatles Again AND The Beatles Story. The album covers are faithfully reproduced in a CD size format--down to the Butcher Cover. (A common complaint about this set is that it isn't the original "muddy" U.S. mixes; it's new mixes George Martin did specifically for CD from the '80's--and that's fine by me!) Then I bought The Beatles Stereo Box Set on CD. This includes ALL of their studio albums and the Past Master CDs...After that, I did a lot of research to determine which were the essential Beatles albums to own on vinyl in mono. By essential, I mean which albums sound the most different from the stereo albums; which mixes are the most unusual: #5. Rubber Soul. #4. Revolver #3. Magical Mystery Tour. #2. Sgt. Pepper's... (some swear this is the only way to hear it) Note: The Sgt. Pepper's Box Set includes the mono mix on CD. And #1. The Beatles or The White Album. Some mixes are so distinctly different that this almost feels like an alternate White Album. If you buy only one Beatles album in mono, get this one! If you buy any of the mono albums, you are going to get the original UK packaging (faithfully reproduced) and the recordings are from the original master tapes--unlike the stereo versions. If I were rich, then I'd go ahead and get everything on vinyl. But I'm happy having almost every Beatles' track on CD (in mono & stereo) and then adding my favorite stereo albums and the most unusual mono mixes on vinyl. I'd also recommend investing in a good pair of headphones, like Sony's MDR-V6. (Retail: about $50) I think it's the only way to really enjoy mono. But, at the same time, in stereo, you can have those fantastic birds in "Tomorrow Never Knows" flying through your head, too...Think of it this way: Any Beatles music you buy will (if you take care of it) AT LEAST retain its value, but there is also a chance that it will increase in value. In other words, it's an investment that you can really enjoy. Other albums you might want to add to this collection: The Anthology Series; Let It Be...Naked; Yellow Submarine Songtrack (some unusual mixes here) & the 1+ CD/DVD Box Set (with all of the videos).
It would be cool to hear your thoughts in a review of an old Deep Purple album, one of the Mk. I lineup albums like Book of Taliesyn or Deep Purple III. They are criminally underrated in my opinion.
Hey, this video was stolen for a Chinese knock off ad on Facebook - I would take some action against the thieves. I took a screen shot but cannot post it here
@@shaide5483 I borrowed both the 2009 mono CD set and mono vinyl set from my friend and compared. the CD remaster is absolute trash compared to the vinyl masters cut directly from the original tapes. there is no comparison. CD remaster sounds muddy and the vinyl is crystal clear. I ended up buying a mint condition vinyl box set off discogs because of the stark difference. but of course, that was a lot more money compared to the CD box set.
Great review. I ultimately didn't buy the box only because I don't visit The Beatles nearly as much as I used to and already own the mono CDs - if I was a teen again when I was super into them, it would have been a miracle.
I think the mono masters was called originally Past Masters, which was included the B sides of single"s, and the whole Long Tally Sally EP. It was issued in 2 CD-s (or tape) black from Love me do, to I"m down, and white from We can work it out to You know my name. I don"t have a record player, but it reminds me to a better world... :) I have the all Beatles LP"s in CD, and the two Past Master"s. Thank"s that you show us this LP collection! :)
Awesome set! Got it a while ago for $200 from Amazon. At some point in 2016 Amazon had a pricing error and they were selling it for under $100! Some people got them at that price.
I like the mono albums. I have all of the Beatles in stereo on Vinyl and CD, but only have the mono album box set on CD and would like to own the vinyl box set to complete my Beatles album collection
Dude, great channel and great content. I just found out about your channel this week and I'm obsessed, watching a lot of videos everyday. And this mono lp box set is a true beauty. Congrats!
I'm a little late to the party. Great review! I bought mine at Reckless Records in Chicago and remember sitting on the train with this heavy box on my lap(including 2 apple t-shirts)...these are the UK pressings as the Beatles released them. The Beatles White Album was the last album released in mono by the Beatles. Magical Mystery Tour was the last album released in mono in the U.S. Thats why its in this set but the actual release in the UK was released as an E.P.(Extra Play). The Beatles were always present for the mono mixing not the stereo mixing with the exception of the White Album. Listen to the differences between mono and stereo...start with the White Album. Have fun!
Great review. Thanks! I have been thinking about getting this for a while. The book looks really cool. I have the mono sgt pepper and mono masters separately. Great channel and videos!
I own this, it’s just as amazing as he says, I also picked up the individual recent stereo reissues of Yellow Submarine, Abbey Road, and Let it be to put inside the box to get that full discography collection feeling, along with that 3 LP set and book it really feels like a complete Beatles experience.
With this box set, you get that foam insert that keeps the LPs from moving around in the box. Coincidentally, once you remove the foam insert, you have enough room to add in the stereo LPs for Let It Be and Abbey Road. I went with the European pressings of those LPs from 2012, which beat the USA pressings in quality by a wide margin. As others have pointed out, you don't really need the Yellow Submarine LP because all of the Beatles songs from that LP are already presented on the box set in true mono mixes (not fold-down mixes). The only reason to buy the Yellow Submarine LP is if you want the George Martin instrumentals. By adding Let It Be and Abbey Road to the box set, you technically have every Beatles recording released during their career, with the exception of three songs: Ballad of John and Yoko, Old Brown Shoe, and the single mix of Let It Be. You'll need the stereo Past Masters for those... or hunt down copies of the singles (none of which are hard to find).
mjanovec there is also plenty of room for the Yellow Submarine album. Those 3 albums fit perfectly in the spot left by the foam. I don't think that was a coincidence
I can now say with quite some confidence. Mono is the only way to listen to the beatles. Whereas the stereo versions and loud and flaring. Mono is perfectly balanced and very easy on the ear. Hearing lucy in the sky with diamonds in mono is nothing less than a revelation.
Great producers and engineers still mix for mono, whether the recording is in mono or stereo. Many clubs and spaces that play dance music use mono audio systems and the music has to work in mono. Mixing for mono is... Genius. And forever...
odds are they planned ahead and made the box itself bigger (or the same size as the stereo set) so you can add the remaining stereo albums to that set by taking out the large foam piece. lots of other box sets do this as well.
Recently ordered Mono Masters on vinyl, I already have Revolver in mono from these masters. One day I want the entire box set, but I am happy to own the records I have from this set
It's an amazing box !!! The Beatles's music in mono is cool and interesting. I love the presentation and all of the box, great quality. The size could be a Little bit bigger but it's ok, it's so good.
I have the Mono Cd box set and I love it, my only gripe is it doesn’t have Get back and Abbey Road and the 2 songs missing from Mono masters , the Ballad of John and Yoko and Old Blown Shoe.
I feel better about my seventies MMT stereo pressing. The book was separated from the staples holding it in, too. IMO, mono is better for listening if you’re not able to sit and listen to it through headphones. It’s great for when you have to work around the house and want some music to listen to. Stereo is better for hearing everything that was put into the track, the stereo separation helps you hear things that mono can obscure.
So I wasn't lucky enough to score this when it came out, and I haven't been able to find the set for under $500, but I would love to have it. Just wanted to throw in another quick observation about the "Mono Masters" compilation that is included: we are missing a couple tracks that were present on the "Past Masters" compilation from the stereo box, including "The Ballad of John and Yoko," as well as "Old Brown Shoe," the latter of which is one of my favorite tunes from the end portion of the Beatle's career. These tracks weren't released on any of the UK albums, so in order to get these, you would need to find a copy of "Past Masters" in stereo, which would be a bit redundant as all the other tracks are included on "Mono Masters."
Yellow submarine was released in mono, but only the A side, the B side came in stereo anyways so they put the songs of A side on the mono masters 3 lp album
the mono versions are the REAL versions of their albums up to sgt pepper, those were the ones they worked on. the stereo versions were like unfinished afterthoughts, like "ok... sure, make a stereo one too", they were not even present during the stereo mixings. they assumed everybody was going to listen to the mono versions, both at home or on the radio, they never anticipated the stereo mixes to be "main default" ones. I wish the stereo ones were out of print and eradicated from the face of the earth!. the mono versions should be the only ones avaiable in any format.
No, man, it’s not. Go for the Mono Box. That is the best. Don’t take it from me, byt for the four guys who wanted their music released in mono most of the time...
Not as great tho, just is not as great as they were intended to be mono, I like the stereo to, but the mono lps, are the way they were intended, that's all folk's!! 🍁leif
As engineer Goeff Emerick points out in his book, The Beatles themselves were involved in the mono mix of Sgt. Pepper, but not the stereo mix. I guess they didn't realize that stereo would soon become the standard.
I don’t have the Mono set yet, but I do have the Stereo Set and it was done very similarly to the Mono set. I hope to get the Mono Set soon. Great review and totally agree with u it is worth it. Thanks for the vid.
Wonder if they sell the book seperately? Also check out McCartney's book 'Many Years From Now'. It's a fascinating and brilliant insight into his life as a Beatle -- and puts you inside their circle in the 60's. :0)
Mr. The Geek - As well I am a analytic listener as a producer, composer, arranger, own studio. - I hear all kinds of music when those fit my feelings & soul. - I am living in the north of Germany & Berlin,, having a lot contact to European Countries including Brexit-UK ( I hope, in the END they will stay ), to Brasil, Canada, Australia & USA with doing electro dance music - I'm personally not in the billionaire range of producers but I do Indie-Gtr. Stuff as well with Rickenbacker Gtr.s & German handmade Guitar manufactures - I love synthesizers as well, very different electronic / TechHouse stuff, Pop Music (when it comes my way...and I like it !! ) - I never use Autotune! - There is so much diff. beautiful music on this planet, that I hear from Beethoven, Beck, Apparat, Royksöpp, Crystal Method (US Electronica), German & French Electro / Techno, BEATLES in the first place & many different styles ending on Hungarian folk music or celtic music. - I love music, end up!
Check out the Kinks in mono next! I got it for pretty cheap on Amazon w/ the Bob Marley lighter boxset and had an excellent weekend when those came in (I really forgot how freaking good the Kinks were)
I love The Beatles and collecting them, so I’m more than likely to pick up any of their releases. I got the Stereo box set a while back and I ended up buying each Mono record on its own. I actually prefer Stereo, I just like Stereo in general, so that’s why I mainly go to Stereo. Plus, Sgt. Pepper’s, Magical Mystery Tour, and of course The White Album I have always thought the Stereo version sounds better. MMT in Mono has less psychedelic effects and The White Album in Mono sounds like a rushed job.
I heard Revolver from this set and there is little treble above 5khz on it. It's problematic because the original recordings certainly had more top end sparkle when they were new as can be heard on any of the stereo remixes. Basically what you get here is a lesson on how original tapes age over time and how important it is to make safeties every few years to preserve the sparkle.
This set is legit. You will be pulling these albums out to enjoy with your kids and grandkids. Get it while it's under 600. The first box set my guests always comment on is the Beatles mono box.
Incl. Revolver it was mixed in mono with high priority, said George Martin - alive - years ago at first side, needed 2-3 weeks for mixing, for the Stereo Mixes they needed only 2-4 days - no one had Stereo Equip. till the 1970s. - Even the source for the vinyl is digital at least ....!
You criticise a mono box for not having the last two stereo-only albums and the mono fold-downs from YS? How does that work? Other than this, a great video.
I bought it a month ago as well from acoustic sounds, cost me a lot more then I hoped but I guess it was well worth it. If you haven't got it you definitely should get one soon because when I bought it a bunch of the guys at the Steve Hoffman forums were buying up back up copies and they were out of stock at amazon.com. I haven't read the notes on the mono masters sleeve yet but I read through the book as I listened to the albums and it was a pretty good book to read though I'm not sure if it's quite as good as the Stereo box which I bought first. Personally I think it's one of the best if not the best vinyl box set you can put your money on.
I don't have this box set but I do have "Sgt. Peppers, rubber soul and revolver in mono. They are absolutely fantastic quality. I'm am probably to casual a fan to buy that box set but it's super cool looking.
Aaron Z I bought the records piecemeal and one of the first I got was Rubber Soul. It was astounding how good it sounded and it sold me on this reissue campaign. Enjoy!
The Mono Masters LP actually has the unreleased mono mix for the Yellow Submarine album and it’s Side One! Nobody cares about Side two so most people and I would say it’s only 2 missing albums
Nah I don't think they actually attach those books anymore in magical mystery tour. Because I got the stereo 2012 version brand new and it was the same but if you look there is no ripping or any sign of it actually being attached and coming off. I just don't think they actually attach them anymore because they know it's a flaw and they always come apart.

Ngl but I like mono but I am really in for a stereo box set because it has all the beatles albums
"I am hard pressed to find it, now, for under 300 dollars"......ahhhhhhh, the halcyon days of 2018
As always, great video and great buy too! Got mine about two weeks ago and I'm absolutely blown away by the sound and the whole quality of the box set. Such a pity that they haven't put as much effort in the making of the Stereo-Box.
I'm slowly becoming a Beatles fanatic, so one day I can see me getting both box sets. I always liked them, but not like I'm starting to.
Hopefully they release a set like this again. Missed out on this set unfortunately.
SAME! i dont get why you can easily buy the stereo versions in any record store, but the mono pressings are nowhere to be found at a decent price...
@@Mildon44 the stereo box set is hard to find here in the Netherlands as well. Cheapest one I've seen is €700,00 on Amazon.
I can't thank you enough for the record! and the autographed photo Dude u rock.
Hey, this video was stolen for a Chinese knock off ad on Facebook - I would take some action against the thieves. I took a screen shot but cannot post it here
I bought the CD version back in 2012 which cost £170 then. Now our record player is finally repaired, I need this in my collection.
It’s going for $800 - $1000 now...
Buy the CD set if you want Mono, but can’t afford Vinyl. Simple.
@@KevISKo0l I’m recommending the CD versions to those that can’t afford the Vinyl version
Some people got them at that price.
whoa
That was an amazing box set. I would definitely want to get and add it to the collection
Hey... coincidentally I was just looking this up yesterday!
I own this, it’s just as amazing as he says, I also picked up the individual recent stereo reissues of Yellow Submarine, Abbey Road, and Let it be to put inside the box to get that full discography collection feeling, along with that 3 LP set and book it really feels like a complete Beatles experience.
It was a must to own this collection. It really worth it
I still have my Let it Be Album I got given in 1970. Well my kids have it now. It's good to pass it on to a new generation.
I bought mine on 2016, it´s a really beautiful piece of history. Actually this box set is totally SOLD OUT!
On the Original White Album the Beatles Name and the Number were Embossed. Nice Set and a Great Introduction to their Music.
I had a US import MMT I bought new in '74.
Yes...the booklet pages DO detach.
Help! mono mix was the biggest revelation for me, the mono mix is fantastic.
I have the CD mono box. Also excellent quality, and doesn't take up so much space.
Totally digging your show from Sydney.
Keep them coming.
Cds are boring nobody wants em
0:59 a bottle of Slivovitza (plum brandy) in the backgorund (the bottle in the middle). Greetings from Slivovitza region in the EU! :-)
My copy of magical mystery tour has the book inside of a sleeve instead of on the cover but mine is pretty new
So I wasn't lucky enough to score this when it came out, and I haven't been able to find the set for under $500, but I would love to have it.
Great review! I've been eyeing this for a while now but like you mentioned the price keeps going up and up.
You can buy 3 major Beatles Album in 16 Track Stereo Mix = SGT.Pepper, WhiteAlbum, Abbey Road. I guess next is Revolver + Rubber Soul
I bought the Stereo box set years ago. It's just as great
No it's not though....
The mono vinyl set is the best...
🍁leif
But that was sourced from the digital files used to make the 2009 CDs. This is analogue all the way.
Magical mystery tour was an ep in the uk the. Lp came out in 1971
As engineer Goeff Emerick points out in his book, The Beatles themselves were involved in the mono mix of Sgt. Pepper, but not the stereo mix. I guess they didn't realize that stereo would soon become the standard.
Man, I love this channel! Great review, love the Beatles.
I don’t have the Mono set yet, but I do have the Stereo Set and it was done very similarly to the Mono set. I hope to get the Mono Set soon. Great review and totally agree with u it is worth it. Thanks for the vid.
Shane Rod Don't forget that a lot of radios were only presented in mono, so Stereo was more niche and thought of as a fad while Mono was the standard.
Just discovered your channel. Fantastic videos! I love this set. It's a bit pricey but a nice collector piece for any fan.
The Yellow Submarine mono trax are unique to the box set as they are on Mono Masters set and they are the real unreleased mono mixes. Read the book.
There are tons of Beatles fans kicking themselves these days for sleeping on this box. Me included.
Nice video! Just one question: Where's the album: "LET IT BE" ??? :>(
Check out the Kinks in mono next! I got it for pretty cheap on Amazon w/ the Bob Marley lighter boxset and had an excellent weekend when those came in (I really forgot how freaking good the Kinks were)
Awesome Video! Love your enthusiasm. I've got the CD version - now I wish I had spent a bit more for the Vinyl Set ... ;-)
Have owned it for a few years now. Perfect.
The Beatles in Mono è l'album boxset della rock band The Beatles pubblicato il 25 dicembre 2009 dalla Apple Records.
Can you order the booklet on Ebay without getting the mono albums???
Awesome box set! I got my hands on a Sgt. Peppers mono and I think it sounds better then the stereo mix
Maybe because that was the mix The Beatles personally oversaw. See my other comment.
Love the period decor. Being a talk show host is in your future dude.
Great video as usual Vinyl Geek. Keep them coming.
Hope they reprint them soon. I only got Rubber Soul and Revolver separately because everything else is OOP 😣
We're up to $2k for this set now and it's scarce. Anyone who bought it a couple of years ago is really lucky!
I don't have this box set but I do have "Sgt. Peppers, rubber soul and revolver in mono. They are absolutely fantastic quality. I'm am probably to casual a fan to buy that box set but it's super cool looking.
Aaron Z
I bought the records piecemeal and one of the first I got was Rubber Soul.
You lucked out with the good looking sleeve. Mine was in perfect condition except the sleeve but I demanded a big discount because of it hehe.
Plain and simple, excellent content.
I hope they rerelease this because I want it so bad
Also, this box set is better than the CD equivalent because as you said, they went back to the original master tapes which they did not for the CDs
Of course they used the original master tapes for the CDs! A flat digital transfer was made from the tapes and that was used to make the CDs.
I need this, I have the CD version though
Sir , can you do Beatles MFSL LPs box set review . Thank You and have a nice day .
