It's funny that when CD versions in stereo were released I thought it would enhance the Beatles music, big mistake especially with Sgt Peppers.Mono is better,...
The new stereo mix is fantastic. It is so much better balanced and has an increase in clarity when compared to any other stereo mix of Revolver. The bass and drums have real presence. She Said, She Said has some issues where the guitars lost some power in the separation. That really is my only complaint. The outtakes are throughly enjoyable and I can see returning to them. I do my own recordings in my home Protools-based studio, so I enjoy “process” and hearing how the band and producer arrived at the final mixes.
I’ve been waiting for the mono-mono comparison, appreciate that and everything else - this is a really great analysis of the box. Looking forward to my copy. Thanks, Mike!
I think that my problem is primarily with the double-tracked vocals. On those tracks with double-tracked vocals, Giles Martin has elected to hard pan one vocal track to the left speaker and one to the right resulting in a very vague center image of the lead vocal, almost as if the vocal is out of phase. I would have preferred to have the double-tracked vocals combined into a tight center image.
“Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.” Dr. Ian Malcolm on tampering with old classic records.
For me the remix feels like almost an autopsy of the record so you can better understand the instrumental anatomy of the album and can go back to the mono mix and better understand the final product. I don’t see myself going back to the remix the same way I’ll go back to the mono.
Which is why streaming these makes more sense to me. Why spend money on these? I already have the mono box and singles collection and no one has so far convinced me that this is worth $200 for someone like me
I'm purchasing the single album remix only I've listened to the outtakes on streaming service and could not get into them.Once was enough.Price point is over the top
Absolutely agree, The Esher Demos we’re worth the price of admission. It was definitely not a listen once and put back in the box. The 2014 mono boxset, I think you mean? As much as I wouldn’t mind a copy of the 2022 mono mix, I’ll continue to enjoy my 2014 mono box until prices hopefully come down on the deluxe set. I just ordered the stereo remix, and I’m a fan of Giles’ remixes. They’re a nice current mix of the stereo, imo. That said, I do prefer Revolver in mono.
I purchased the Giles mix of let it be from Walmart and was totally disappointed. Paul had John did not sound like themselves nor did original instruments sound natural like the original. The bass was exaggerated and overpowered on the remix which to my ears removed the air and openness in the recording, resulting in a dead, dull and lifeless facsimile of the original.
I enjoy the remix. For me, it feels like Giles Martin dolled up and "fixed" a few tracks to really bring out the life in them, but the ones that were perfect already he left alone. I thought it was a nice, subtle approach, much like his Let it Be remix. I think each remix project he's done has been better than the last!
I Agree with this bloke about the remix,I'm not a Giles Martin mix lover,I think he has ear trouble and he believes the rest of us suffer with it also,This bloke was spot on about remix Sgt Pepper a disaster,No leave alone get another job Giles, something your good at,you ain't at this game
Great coverage. Correction, the mono box was done in 2014 and not 2012. Pretty disappointed that there aren’t any flip backs on the jackets on the new box set. Everything else seems well done, down to the “SOLD IN .U.K.” text. Did you like the remix of Paperback Writer and Rain?
Revolver was my first experience listening to a record in stereo. I was 7 years old. My brother had a suitcase type with detatchable left and right speakers. When I heard the first few seconds of Taxman my mind was blown. Revisiting Revolver 55 years later with the new mix was equally mind blowing. I feel Giles repaired the gaping open space in the soundstage. Very enjoyable for me.
Mike, I appreciate this video. I ordered the CD version of the Revolver box set, and I am very pleased with it. I must confess, I buy the new Beatles box sets more for the packaging than the remixes. Like you, I have so many versions of these albums that I'm suffering from "version fatigue," (if that's a thing!). I listen to CDs with a Pioneer XLR balanced output player run through a Decware tube stage which gives a nice warm sound. I have Klipsch LaScala speakers and the sound is fantastic. I still put on the '66 Capitol stereo and mono vinyls that I grew up with, and they sound great. Even the pops and clicks sound great to me. As George Harrison says in the Anthology video, "I prefer a bit of tape hiss."
"Version fatigue" I rather like that. Yeah I’m doing the same thing. I’ve ordered the CD box set. Maybe I’ll buy the vinyl LP separately if the mood strikes me.
Agree with your take on the new remix. The word I would use is that it’s not ‘organic’ sounding. Bass is too loud on some tracks, vocals are mixed out front, and the new mix of She Said, where they separate the lead guitars, sounds dreadful. For me, the original mono mix is still the best to listen too.
Amazing and people should not always expect everything to sound the same. Especially when they remastered and remix the Albums they have done stop far so that all the songs Will sound better with the equipment and stereo systems that we have today in the Year 2022 vs back in the Albums original release date. I'm sure they had the access to equipment that we are using in 2022 to make it sound the best that they can they would do just that because they wanted every album they released to be the best quality they could give us.
I'm one of those that missed out on the mono box so I'm really looking forward to cracking this one open and give it a listen. Very informative as always. Thanks for the insights.
The issue of repetitive, or substandard tracks on sessions is why I prefer the CD version of any set featuring discs full of alternate tracks so you can program your favorite set.
The new stereo remix is possibly what would have happened if the Beatles had an 8 or 16 track tape deck available at the time! I love that the instruments are now so crystal clear, and panned around the stereo image stage in front, and that the vocals, and main drums are now centered, as they should have been originally. I love it! I have been a Beatles fan/listener since the mid 60s...... As I got older, into the 70s it always bothered me with the old stereo mixes; guitars and vocals on one side, and bass and drums on the other; it didn't sound like any of the newer, 'modern' 70s records I was hearing so I didn't understand why ......; once I found out in the later 70s, I just listened to the mono Beatles albums as much as possible, except for the likes of Sgt Pepper, the White Album, and Abbey Road, which sounded 'proper stereo'...!! I have the vinyl Revolver boxset, but I've only had a chance to listen to the remix so far; I'll get to the mono and 'extras' over the next few days.... After your review, I look forward to the mono; it always sounded amazing all those years ago in my youth - so powerful. I like the 2012 release; and I love attention to detail with the flip-back sleeve.... sadly they didn't reproduce that with the new '22 boxset.... yet with the UK release at least, they went to extra details on the record labels, with the placements of the original PMC and PCS numbers, and the "Sold In UK..." text across the label just below the large yellow Parlophone logo.....but no flip-backs on the sleeves??!! Shame!
Good to hear your thoughts Mike...I bought the box set for the mono as I don't have a copy.. you are my go to guy when I'm considering an album. This review confirms my purchase.
I'm glad you covered this Mike. I was curious to know how this set sounds compared to the 3 or 4 different copies I have of Revolver including the mono reissue, orig US Capitol rainbow 66 release and the Parolophone UK early 70's reissue. I have enjoyed Giles Martin Sgt. Peppers reissue which sounds great, but different. The outtakes are incredible. Revolver is my fav Beatles album, prob fav of all time period. I will likely get that box set.
I listened to the sessions disks a couple of times having downloaded it and already have had my fill of it. I don’t care if i never listen to it again. Overpriced and glad I saved my money. Thanks for your honest review!
Brilliant review 👏 and you definitely know your stuff , I always watch you and I live in England 🇬🇧, I'd like to visit your record store one day , I'm the same as you I still like the mono mix.
Yes, the 22 mono is definitely hotter. I did a side by side comparison with the 2014 mono and the 22 has more energy and spark in it. I’ve listened to my mono revolver hundreds of times and am so excited for this hot cut. Revolver mono is my favorite LP and am so thrilled. The remix isn’t perfect but is light years ahead of the 09 remaster. Thanks for sharing
I remember listening to number nine on the white album & when it came to the part of the dude stepping outside to take a leak and getting mugged I would die laughing. We just kept picking up the needle and playing that again and again and laughing so hard it hurt
Thank you! Great vid. Speaking of the doors, nice to see your collection centered behind you. On the sh forums, a lot of people say the German late 70's stereo press is the one to find, have you ever heard that one?
Awesome, can't wait to pick up the new 2022 vinyl boxset! I have a minty 2-box EMI stereo UK & The 2014 mono, but I'm still grabbing the new 2022 deluxe vinyl set. Hopefully I'll run across some killer black Friday deals. 🤞
I played my ‘66 Capital mono and stereo OPs today and still am thrilled by them. Ringo’s drums on I WANT TO TELL YOU and the opening guitar on HE SAID SHE SAID….wow.
Wow you have a lot of different versions of Revolver. Thanks for your indepth review. I too have mixed feelings about the 2022 remix. It's sounds clearer with more bass and dynamics but it's a totally different record that takes time getting used to.
@@rich.muzzaman 1978 to 1986, I think, in various countries including US and UK. It was just a box set for UK albums that were available separately at the time.
@@ryanb7649 Cheers mate. Based on this video I just bought a 1969 stereo UK flipback cover w/ the original "pink" inner. Sounds very good on my set-up.
Are there any official sources that say the 2022 mono LP is all analog? I’ve heard a few UA-cam channels say it is, but I don’t recall reading it in any of the official press releases. Obviously the sound is what really matters, but It would still be nice to confirm.
I’m glad for you but it’s getting obscene. Having heard your review, I just wish they would release the mono as a separate disc. Getting broke with all these rereleases. I wish they would just keep the essentials in print.
I’ve never listened to the Beatles. They were a bit before I started buying music. That said.. I think I’m going to buy this 2022 boxset. Or if I can find a single copy of the Mono mix that will be fine for me. So is the Mono mix available as a single record? I’m not going to spend a lot of money on this whole boxset. Because I don’t know enough about the Beatles to warrant spending a lot of money. Thank you for the great review. Despite all the commercials. 😊😊
Very enjoyable review thanks. By the way of course The Esher Demos get thier name from where they were recorded - Esher - but (correcting you a little 🫣) it’s pronounced Ee-sha 🇬🇧
Thank god you give this a good review as I've just ordered it today and just watched your review, also got the local hero's and thriller one step coming but god knows when I'll get them 😀
Hey Mike, great video! I wish more reviewers would compare it to the current norm... for example alot of people have never even heard the original mixes (yes i have lsitened but they arent availble for daily lsitening). Before this I only ever listened to the 2009 remasters which is the only mixes available to buy new on vinyl or listen to on Spotify/apple music. In my opionon this new remix maybe sounds weird for people that have had the luxury of listening to original mix of the ablum for years, but for people like me who have only been able to listen to the 2009 remasters for the last 10 years, this mix sounds AMAZING imo. just my 2 cents. Thanks Mike!
I really wish the 2022 mono was available on its own. I can justify buying four LPs for $200 when I just want the mono. May as well just find a Parlophone mono on discogs.
They recut some of the sides for the early 1980s UK mono LPs, with those being mastered/cut solid-state. Sometimes you will get those...sometimes you won't.
On headphones this stereo remix sounds tons better to me than any old stereo version . I do have the original mono record from the 60s it sounds ok throu headphones but this version expands and makes all instruments vocals and drums clearer and much less muddy and lost in mix that the original suffered from. But then again the original was supposed to be played on a box recordplayer . Thankyou for posting
Always appreciate your brutal honesty. My favorite versions of Beatle LPs are the original 1960s Capitol albums for a historical perspective. But those 1970s Parlophone LPs are a great bang for the buck. Thanks again Mike for preaching the truth.🫡
I agree with you! I was lucky to pick up a mono copy of Revolver from England that was that first pressed in 1966. The sound is quite amazing! There's something about the originals that modern day releases can't beat!
I was streaming it this morning, and in my tiny opinion, it’s fatiguing. Nothing I would ever listen to repeatedly. I’d opt for the single disc version if I bought any copy. A lot of this stuff is not really necessary, though it is cool to hear these songs in different formations as they developed in the studio
I haven't listened to Revolver very often but weirdly I know all the lyrics and I can sing every song effortlessly, I'm 70 and have played piano, guitar, keyboards, harmonica in bands when I was young but we never covered any Beatles tunes. This morning it dawned on me and I think It's because Revolver was the first Beatles album I got into on my first LSD trip. It was 1966 and I was 13. Man it was wild I could "see" the music pulsating out from the speakers a swirling mass of colours and patterns totally opposite to the album cover very strange indeed. Yep that's gotta be it now I have to learn how to play it maybe Yellow Submarine is a good start.
I wonder if in 50-55 years people will be re-releasing the shit that's on the radio now. 🤔 I feel sorry for the people that are going to have to buy re-released, re-mastered stuff that was garbage when it came out. 🤣
I loved the take of 'Got to get you into my life' without the brass. That was really cool. I'd have loved for George's guitar or Paul whoever was playing to have had more boost, or have been more prominent. Because the riff was awesome! Excellent review!
Didn't realise new vinyl ought to be ultrasonically cleaned fresh out of the wrap. How do we do that? I've got one mint 80s vinyl that I'd like to get a good digitise of on first play, so I ought to make sure it's clean. Is it a case of sending it off to specialists?
Just get an ultrasonic cleaner.. The Humminguru is pretty affordable (I guess), but if you're handy, you can make your own.. An ultrasonic cleaner w/ 6L tank, some other various bits & pieces and you can put one together for under $200. There's various posts on forums, videos on UA-cam and whatnot, etc.. just search around 'DIY ultrasonic record cleaner". ;)
THANK YOU: for offering a common sense perspective on outtakes/demos/studio takes. In my opinion this type of material is perfect for streaming; I doubt most people truly *want* physical copies of that material. Which kinda makes it filler.
Was so looking forward to the remix, thought mid period Beatles would benefit more than later but to be honest really didn’t care for it. Whatever perceived warts on original stereo mix it still sounds great and will remain my go to
So basically what you're saying is they didn't offer to sell us the one thing we really want: the new improved all analog mono with nothing else for $25.
Exactly. I don't understand why they can't just sell the mono separately. They need to learn from Pink Floyd, and how they arranged Animals. Lots of options, even a blu-ray separately with a surround mix, without charging the white out of your eye.
@@rabarebra You know the state of your catalog is bad when you're being compared unfavourably to the former kings of rip-off box sets, Pink Floyd. There's literally no good reason for the 2009 Mono CDs not to be in print. The vinyl I understand; it was a big project and stampers wear out. But the CDs should be £10 a pop maximum on Amazon for the rest of eternity. I want to be seeing them in charity shops. The fact that the average Beatles listener is subjected either to poorly-remastered stereo that was poorly mixed to begin with, or Giles Martin's unfaithful and overdone remix hackjobs, is a disgrace. I'm glad I own the 2009 mono box and a black triangle Abbey Road so I can safely ignore all these wank deluxe editions consisting of one worthy disc (at most) with a bunch of filler.
I am in Berlin visiting my son I saw a mono Horzu Revolver for $40 in a store and passed on it Should I go back? The new one just delivered to my house. I have the 2014 mono box, blue box and a stereo original
Good to know Mike, I was disappointed when Michael45 said the OG mono was more dynamic as I understood all OGs were compressed. Its easy to confuse surprisingly enough but Im glad you set the record straight here.
Leon-- I've noticed your comments on Michael45's original Revolver video, the most recent one, and now this one. All of them suggest you've seen the parlogram video where Andrew shows wave forms of compression between OGs and 2014 monos. And you want to make sure this objective way of assessing dynamics is understood when these comparisons are done. Fair enough. At the same time, I wonder if there's something more going on than what wave forms can show? For example, when I go to a live performance, it's never a perfect mix or balance. Given my position in the audience, I could hear all sorts of things differently than someone two rows down or even sitting next to me. Which is to say there are a lot of factors that make for the experience of music. And I wonder if pressing a record isn't only about trying to capture the sound perfectly. Are all the elements present and to what degree is a huge factor to be sure. I just wonder if pressing a record is as much an act of translation as documentation. Give me the experience of what it is like to hear the Beatles right there in the space, what did that feel like? It's like Van Gogh's Starry Night-- it doesn't look like a photograph of a starry night, and yet there is an emotional truth in the feeling of the painting that surpasses any such pictures that have been taken. In other words, maybe the best pressing (in terms of conveying the experience/feeling of the music) is impressionistic as much as it is realistic.
@@youwhohear Theres nothing wrong about preferring the compressed version. My only qualm is with misinformation. Its well documented that Beatles OGs, as well as most OGs of the time even in other genres like Jazz, have a compression to them. Its easy to conflate it with dynamic probably because its easy to embellish a sound you like with "positive" words but when the meaning is the opposite to reality that should be pointed out I think.
@@leon9021 i see. you just want michael45 to be more careful when he uses the word "dynamic" to describe the feeling he gets from a pressing that is technically compressed. you just want the right information out there. maybe a better word to capture what he means would be "lively."
@@youwhohear Sure. In my mind, reviews are not best when one necessarily holds up one version but rather just explains the differences between them accurately and gives perspective for who might prefer one or the other, at least when both versions have good qualities. That way one knows more about what they might prefer. Thats very hard whenthe wrong descriptions are used however.
Micheal45 had complete disdain and no experience with original pressings 2 months ago (despite all the comments on his sight to listen to an original if he was going to be relevant - he avoided that until the MoFi issue - it didn’t jive with his hype sticker euphoria) According to him new releases were the bomb. Now since he was so late to the game he is paying big bucks for as many OG as he can find and feels the original always blows a remaster away. I much prefer In Groove Mike’s true long term experience - we both nearly always hear the same distinctions between pressings.
5:09, No they don’t run the old mix through a program to de mix it. They go back to the original source tapes before they were bounced to extract the original track from its original source tape then align all these source tracks into a protools project file. After that they can then remix the record minus all the previous bounce down tracks.
You are wrong. This is not a remix from the stems. They use a computer with AI to pull apart the instruments (maybe using some stems where available) from the tape and create a multitrack to remix the album. There is extensive interviews that have been done talking about this technology.
@Scott Baxendale Wrong. They only had the 4-track to work on. Scott, you are correct how things usually are done, but not with this Beatles album. They do not have any original multitracks laying around. They only got the 4-track where it was bounced to, and that's it. Haven't you understood that they did this remix off of Jackson's AI software created for the Get Back documentary? This AI software takes the 4-track and tears it apart and recreates the missing waveforms here and there. This may for some sound artificial, because it will. There is no way they will get a natural sound when the AI software have to figure out missing information. It may sound good, yes, but not outstanding.
The arm feels like it’s resuscitated… It’s gone from being flat and two dimensional to full and three dimensional… It sounds so much better now. Fresh current crisp
Great review the 2022 Mono sounds fantastic and I prefer it to the 2014. I compared the 2014 mono PB writer and Rain on the Mono Masters 2014 LP and it sounds hotter and more punchy than the 2022 mono EP although both sound very good. I agree the remix is good but its not going to beat the original UK stereo pressings for me, its nice to have them both to enjoy.
Out of curiosity, does the sound of the Mono CD in the 2022 set match the 2022 mono vinyl? Obviously, it's not going to have the all-analog audio chain, but if the EQ / mastering choices are similar, I'll grab the HD Tracks 24/96 version for my digital setup. Thanks!
Mike ' I take it that you did not grow up listening to the Beatles on Capitol Records that is what we had here before 1987 when The Beatles U.K. albums made the CD cut even if Capitol Records butchered those Beatles albums they are still a must own with mixes you do not find on the U.K. albums in Mono and Stereo .
it's pretty spot on, at least in my experience, especially for American pressings.. There's certain etchings that ID the pressing plant, so it's hard to goof that up. European stuff is a whole different ballgame, but still doable.. Just gotta read up on everything and study the deadwax.
I agree with Mike in that the sound of this new disc is off-putting. To me it sounds digital (which it is) and processed (which it also is). Maybe it is all the digital deconstruction and reconstruction that was done to this record, that was not done to the previous Giles Martin efforts. To me the music has lost its flow and sounds mechanical, like it was pieced together (it was). The sound kind of reminds me of early CD releases that had a hard sheen to them. Peter Jackson's new process for extracting certain sounds from a mix may be good for dialogue, but I'm not so sure about how good it is for music.
The stereo copy you like is not in a BC-13 box. That's a one-box (from 1969) and YES they sound great. Made from same stampers as UK first pressing. Oh, then you've got another with a flipback cover and a "pink" inner.
@@TheInGroove That's cool - just commented because the copy you picked up when you were talking about it appeared to be a one-box and that pressing is not what most folks will find in a BC-13 box. A lot of folks favor a solid-state cut that you'll typically find in a UK blue box, so you're not alone. I think they both sound fine.
Oh yeah, PLEASE CONSIDER James Wilsey's (Chris Isaaks original guitarist) 'El Dorado' from 2008. It is so freaking good and was never pressed on LP. Sounds tremendous too! Those are my dream picks. Don't get me started on jazz. The New Jazz label has been criminally ignored. Roy Haynes - 'Cracklin' with Booker Ervin. Mal Waldron - 'The Quest' with Booker Ervin & Eric Dolphy. Ron Carter on Cello. Abdul Malik New Jazz recs. Hank Bagby on Protone. Pat Britt - 'Jazz In San Francisco'. ALL Yusef Lateef SAVOY's! Not sure if you have access to any Euro Jazz titles? Anyway, keep up the superb work. Try and repress the Booker Ervin titles. Did you do 'The Blues Book'????? If no, please consider it. PEACE.....
When it comes to listening to music, my focus is always on clarity. Can I hear everything? Is anything distorted or obscured? Does it sound like its supposed to? For that reason, I haven’t heard a remix that I disliked. I always find things that I hear better or more clearly. They don’t necessarily replace the initial mixes, but they supplement them. If I can say, “wait a minute, is that in the original mix?”, I’m happy. Every time I catch it, it’s there, but it’s hard to hear in the original. Giles either moved it or turned it up a little. Mono for me has always been a little lacking for me, because there’s some things that you don’t hear as clearly in mono and stereo. But, mono sometimes does have things you hear better than stereo, but it’s the exception to the rule. I couldn’t disagree more about the outtakes. Yes, there are multiple tracks of the same song, but they aren’t identical. They all sound different. Nice video, BTW.
My guess. I can only speculate. I think they will provide the mono record later, like they did with the Mono box set back in 2014. First it was only the box. After a while they released them separately.
The original UK mono has all the bass cut below 80 Hz, just so you know. They did that in the old days because people's equipment (turntables) couldn't handle the low frequencies. Now you get the whole frequency register. It is cool to own both mono's, though. The new and old. The 2009 stereo is pretty bad.
I've only listened to the remix a couple of times but what struck me was McCartney's bass was way too loud. The balance of the instruments is indeed better, and the 'mistakes' like when McCartney starts singing Eleanor Rigby with the vocal track moving to the left speaker right after he starts singing El (eanor Rigby), that has been fixed. Having listened to the same stereo mix since I got the album in early 1979, it is hard to listen to the album in a different mix. True that the drums are better balanced and more audible, but it's not the Revolver album I'm used to. A question, what is the difference with the mono version contained in the mono cd box set, the mono version of the more recent release of the US albums on CD, the 2014 mono vinyl that was released separately and this new mono version?
This remix did not solve any of the problems of the eternal debate about which is better - mono or stereo. One or two interestingly reworked songs like Eleanor Rigby don't affect anything, as mono still sounds better. But I liked the outtakes, although expected more variety and Eleanor Rigby's demo, which proves once again that Paul only wrote a fragment of the song.
To someone into classicaljusic this sort of hand-wringing is both interesting and slightly incomprehensible because the entire classicaljusic is like that: no ideal performance, and each performance a separate work of art (or a disaster).
You mean you don't fancy paying 200 for one disc you'll actually listen to? Crazy talk! I think it's laughable that for all the effort put into it, the Revolver reissue campaign fails to actually make the album any more available in mono than it already was, by locking it behind a bunch of superfluous bollocks that makes it just as expensive as a great condition Parlophone pressing.
I hate it when session tracks are ordered in the way the appear on the final album, rather than by when they were recorded. It gives a much better picture of the album taking shape and is way less tedious to listen to
Correction: The Mono Box was released in 2014 I said 2012 in the video.
Yeah, I think the re-issue flow was:
-2009: stereo and mono CD boxes
-2012: stereo vinyl (sourced from 2009 digital)
-2014: mono vinyl (all analog)
It's funny that when CD versions in stereo were released I thought it would enhance the Beatles music, big mistake especially with Sgt Peppers.Mono is better,...
@@Snakefinger1000well... it was recorded in mono and they were all about mono.
My pleasure!
Yeah that’s a pretty weird mixing decision , period. If that’s what he did. Like he treated vocals like double tracked guitars.
Well said.
This is how ALL the remixes sound to me!
Which is why streaming these makes more sense to me. Why spend money on these? I already have the mono box and singles collection and no one has so far convinced me that this is worth $200 for someone like me

Good to hear Mike. I ordered this primarily for the mono mix included with it. That's encouraging news. 😊
The 2012 digitally remastered version of Revolver on vinyl is outstanding!
It's fine, but you're better off getting an early UK reissue like the 76 Harry Moss ones
"It is not Revolver", with this statement you explain why I am so critical with most remixes, thank you.
"Here's some Revolver's ..." LMAO .... love your channel and your dedication and passion. Thanks!
you can listen to it a million times, it still sounds like a Frankenstein.
That’s Baron Giles For You 🤪
Hope you are not referring to the Edgar Winter instrumental hit.
Thx for the review - no need to buy. Have the original- ascollector for 55 years prefer my $1.87 US and UK ones.
Shame!
Blimey Mate you've wrote a book on it,wouldn't waste my time or money myself.Could never imagine dear old John Lennon to be impressed with all this.
Fantastic review! And very detailed of the many variations of this legendary album.
You owe it to yourself to have the single remix on vinyl for $30. It’s that good to my ears. But what do I know
I listened to the sessions disks a couple of times having downloaded it and already have had my fill of it.
Incredible video. would you consider doing this for the past remixes?
When you were mentioning the repetition aspect of the demo discs all I could think of was ‘but The Doors’. And then you covered it 😀
Yes, the 22 mono is definitely hotter.
I got my copy this saturday and Im so happy to have a clean copy of Revolver!
Ringo didn't play the Drums, George Martin had a real Drummer Bernard Purdy or Alan White but not Ringo

Wow you have a lot of different versions of Revolver. Thanks for your indepth review. I too have mixed feelings about the 2022 remix. It's sounds clearer with more bass and dynamics but it's a totally different record that takes time getting used to.
I have the CD version of the set, and the disc with the original mono album sounds really good as well.
Truly that BC-13 stereo copy is hard to beat for original stereo....for several titles. Good news about the new mono disc.
What year was the BC-13 and what country were they pressed in?
@@rich.muzzaman 1978 to 1986, I think, in various countries including US and UK. It was just a box set for UK albums that were available separately at the time.
@@ryanb7649 Cheers mate. Based on this video I just bought a 1969 stereo UK flipback cover w/ the original "pink" inner. Sounds very good on my set-up.
Thanks so much Mike
I have original UK stereo from Help - Abbey Road
Will check my DC-13 box to see what I have there
Thanks for talking about the 2022 mono release, I was wondering about that.
Are there any official sources that say the 2022 mono LP is all analog? I’ve heard a few UA-cam channels say it is, but I don’t recall reading it in any of the official press releases. Obviously the sound is what really matters, but It would still be nice to confirm.
Miles Showell in an interview confirmed it.
Thanks for the HONEST review.
They recut some of the sides for the early 1980s UK mono LPs, with those being mastered/cut solid-state. Sometimes you will get those...sometimes you won't.
I know Led Zeppelin II is a popular one, but curious your thoughts on the zep reissues with companion disc/records
Wonderful review. Meticulous. I'm excited to hear the remix. Wish they sold the 45 separately. Would like to hear that too. Thank you. Great vid
I did a "Revolver Revisited" mix from some of the demos and alternate versions. I particularly liked the "Rubber Souled" Dr. Robert
@@machiel5888 Why would it be unfair to have an opinion?
Awesome video
Thank you Michael
I loved the take of 'Got to get you into my life' without the brass. That was really cool. I'd have loved for George's guitar or Paul whoever was playing to have had more boost, or have been more prominent. Because the riff was awesome!
Excellent review!
Very nice discussion....thanks!

There's various posts on forums, videos on UA-cam and whatnot, etc.. just search around 'DIY ultrasonic record cleaner". ;)
Bought it when it came out, was there from the beginning and in the fan club - who wants all this stuff?
Ok Mike I was gonna ask you about the 2014 Mono version comparison to the 2022.... Thanx for correcting that was about confused .. Cheers!
I thought about reshooting it but figured I would just issue a correction.
THANK YOU: for offering a common sense perspective on outtakes/demos/studio takes. In my opinion this type of material is perfect for streaming; I doubt most people truly *want* physical copies of that material. Which kinda makes it filler.
I think it’s great we have the original mono, original stereo, and now a new mix…
Enjoyed this video, thanks for the review. Could say which brand of clear sealable outer poly sleeves you use as well as the inners? Thanks
I'll keep my OG Parlaphone Australian Mono.
Was so looking forward to the remix, thought mid period Beatles would benefit more than later but to be honest really didn’t care for it. Whatever perceived warts on original stereo mix it still sounds great and will remain my go to
remix loses more than gained.
Curious what your take is one year later re the 2022 Mono RE vs. other pressings? It is a killer pressing.
The box are brilliant. Great fun. Yes We play for best Sound as well. But book and studi takes are fun as well
Hey Mike, are you going to be restocking Animals soon?
The remix and any digital demixing was done from the original 4-track session tapes NOT from the 2-track stereo masters.
I am in Berlin visiting my son
I saw a mono Horzu Revolver for $40 in a store and passed on it
Should I go back?
The new one just delivered to my house. I have the 2014 mono box, blue box and a stereo original
I have maybe 25 versions of Abbey Road and Imagine so I can’t make comments about being crazy. Long live Rock and Cool Jazz too!
I got chest pains when you said you collect all the different plants man, that's some rain man territory
Ya. 246 tooth picks.
@@TheInGroove I respect that though🍺what % of the time is discogs correct with plants and etching numbers?
it's pretty spot on, at least in my experience, especially for American pressings.. There's certain etchings that ID the pressing plant, so it's hard to goof that up. European stuff is a whole different ballgame, but still doable.. Just gotta read up on everything and study the deadwax.
😆
I have an original copy of the mono press(parlophone) I also have one on Capitol and one on apple, the Capitol is my favorite
Great! You are the man.
It’s not a computer but a software. It’s not a string section but a horn section. Reference to

Btw after all is said and done, mixes aside, how do you prefer personally to enjoy this album, mono or stereo?
The stereo copy you like is not in a BC-13 box. That's a one-box (from 1969) and YES they sound great. Made from same stampers as UK first pressing. Oh, then you've got another with a flipback cover and a "pink" inner.
I like the bc-13 over the one box flip back. I feel the Vinyl is a little higher quality.

Mal Waldron - 'The Quest' with Booker Ervin & Eric Dolphy. Ron Carter on Cello.

Hank Bagby on Protone.
Pat Britt - 'Jazz In San Francisco'.

Not sure if you have access to any Euro Jazz titles?
Anyway, keep up the superb work. Try and repress the Booker Ervin titles. Did you do 'The Blues Book'?????
If no, please consider it.

it would be good if you could compare the German stereo revolver vs the uk parlophone
Yes. Very surprised there was no German Apple when comparing the best Revolver pressings
I would like to have the mono but don't really want the rest of the box.
My guess. I can only speculate. I think they will provide the mono record later, like they did with the Mono box set back in 2014. First it was only the box. After a while they released them separately.
I like my orig UK mono and my 2009 Stereo remaster. I don't think I need another version.
Great review of the new box set.
What do think about the 2022 stereo version that just came out?
He just said in the video.
To someone into classicaljusic this sort of hand-wringing is both interesting and slightly incomprehensible because the entire classicaljusic is like that: no ideal performance, and each performance a separate work of art (or a disaster).
Is there a 2022 mono mix single LP on the market that is equal to the one in the box set? I’m not in need of the frills.
It gives a much better picture of the album taking shape and is way less tedious to listen to
Hope you ship mine soon
