      Hi, one question please, I am about to paint my FZJ80 in Raptor liner and I am wondering - different textures, subtle or rough... is there any difference in durability or strength or is one better for off-roading than another or is that only matter of taste preferences? And one more, I would do raptor liner on the inside of the doors and door steps too and I am wondering will it be able to close the door as it suppose to be due to rough surfaces of textures?
      Thanks in advance

    I have a 54 year old pickup that I am restoring for me. Inside the bedsides that are technically wide open for salty water, mud and dirt to find a home. We all know what happens next. Thanks to the design, these are unbolted, turned upside down, cleaned to bare metal, neutralized, sanded, wiped with W/G remover.
    My question is, if I use a high quality epoxy sealer for base protection, can I spray the black Raptor liner over it during its open window after it flashes off?
    I understand as it is a belt and suspenders approach providing twice the protection, at least in my mind. But, this is my last build, a daily driver that I can use to make the short trips monthly in a vehicle I am proud to own. Thanks for any feedback. I will be using this product on the cab floor and bottom of cab as well. ASE Master Tech since 1978-Retired

      @MrMrsregor 5 років тому +2

      @@Jonathan-tb6fm i would not worry about lines or streaks, just make sure to have everything *very well prepped* and get good coverage. i sprayed my custom bumpers, the interior floor, and under side of a jeep cherokee xj using 2 kits and the gun that was supplied. i followed the instructions and also used the "upol acid 8" (acid etch primer) to cover any bare metal before the bed-liner. i am not a great painter, but this was so easy because the texture and thickness of this paint covered up my imperfections and it is not very runny. prep is the key to good adhesion. i am now about to use my 3rd kit to do the axles and a other little odds and ends. i would love to also do the exterior if i had the chance

    Hello... I want to spray Upol Anti Corrosive Expoy Primer on my truck that I sanded down to the metal and then I want to spray Raptor liner on top of that with a "Fuji Industrial Spray Equipment PLATINUM-T70 Fuji 3005-T70 Q5 Platinum Quiet HVLP Spray System" I want to use the Fuji spray system for the primer and the Raptor liner. Getting proper thinning of the paint to optimize atomization through the Fuji system will be key. Have you heard of a Zahn cup or #4 Ford cup? In order for a paint to spray properly through an HVLP sprayer I understand that it should be thinned to where it flows properly out of a Zahn or Ford cup. From what I understand the Upol Anti Corrosive Expoy Primer should shoot well out of the Fuji Spray 1.8mm tip without any reducer. It's the Raptor liner that is thicker and will need to be reduced. I am planning on using using "Restoration Shop / Custom Shop - UR70 Medium Urethane Reducer (Gallon) for Automotive Paint and Industrial Paint" and wait until the ambient temperature is appropriate before I spray. I would greatly appreciate any tips or insights for what I am trying to do.

      Hi Bruce, Raptor can be overpainted with Raptor indeed. When overpainting, prepare the surface as follows;
      Raptor should be allowed to dry for 24-hours. Abrade with a fine abrasive pad to create a matte surface. Clean and degrease. The surface is ready to paint. Hope it helps

    hi guys I'm looking to underseal my 3 mitsubishi l400 delicas. there about the size of a lwb pajero. just wondering how many litres per vehicle I should expect to use and also can I inject this into chassis members or should I use waxoil? many thanks

    • @UPOLRaptor
      @UPOLRaptor  7 років тому

      Hi Shane. A 4L RAPTOR kit provides approximately 125 sq. ft. of surface coverage, so it’s possible that one kit would provide sufficient coverage per vehicle but you may be cutting it close depending on the underside contour. If you need a little extra, you can also purchase individual bottles with our 1L RAPTOR kits (UP4801, 4802, 4803, & 4804).
      As far as injecting it into the chassis - it will depend on the type of equipment used to inject it. We have never tested it in or for this application. Waxoil is much thinner in viscosity than RAPTOR is. Plus, it is not a catalyzed product and for this reason, we cannot make an informed recommendation.

    I want to spray the bottom of my fiberglass “stand up paddleboard” any ideas on if this will work well for my application? I realize it may add some extra drag but I’m not too concerned about that as I am being able to just beach the thing on shore without being hyper vigilant and worried about scratching, dinging and or gouging my board.

    • @UPOLRaptor
      @UPOLRaptor  5 років тому

      Hi Ricardo, Raptor will work fine for this application. The board will need to be thoroughly degreased then abraded with P180 abrasive .Any hard to reach areas will need to be scuffed with a fine scuff pad.Once abraded thoroughly degrease and apply Raptor according to TDS.

    A year ago...before hearing of raptor liner...I sprayed bed with por 15 liner. I blasted bed to bare metal, sprayed DuPont etch primer, primer sealer and then 2 light coats of por 15 using 1 gallon for the 2 coats for Chevy 1500 bed. Waited a day or 2 between each product.... Cause doing after work before dark and didn't want to apply too soon and have something like this happen. But Next day and for about a week the liner started cracking and some spots flaking off. Can I sand that liner a bit and spray raptor over top? Or would you suggest I try spraying another coat of their liner to cover cracks and chips and hope it don't crack too? Or what's your advice? Thanks

    • @UPOLRaptor
      @UPOLRaptor  6 років тому +1

      Hi Joe. RAPTOR has not been tested for compatibility with POR 15 or any other products made by other manufacturers. To play it safe, sand down to the primer or bare metal again. Remember to apply an etch primer, like U-POL ACID#8 Acid Etch Primer, to exposed bare metal areas and an adhesion promoter, like GRIP#4 Universal Adhesion Promoter, to hard to sand areas, like cracks and corners. Follow the included instructions or you can find the TDS here: www.u-pol.com/files/11598/up0820-SDS-EN.
      Be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for all products. Some products must be sanded before applying additional coats or another coating if it's been sitting for more than a few hours. Most products are developed to be used one right after another with a short flash time of a few minutes between coats, not days later. You may need to sand between coats if you choose to wait days between coats. That could have been your issue.
      Good luck, and if you have any other issues or questions, you can reach us here on UA-cam, via email at sales-us@u-pol.com, or at (610) 746-7081.

    Quick question. I just applied raptor inside of my jeep. It has an aluminum body. I sanded with 80 grit. I forgot to spray the acid 8 though. Should I scrape the liner off and do over?

    • @UPOLRaptor
      @UPOLRaptor  7 років тому +1

      YES! RAPTOR does not adhere directly to Aluminum, so you will have adhesion and durability issues if not immediately, sometime in the future. I'm sorry to hear that you'll have to redo your work, but it will be worth it when your RAPTOR application is fixed by using the ACID#8 first.

      Hello Jared, nice project! You can scuff the plastic with grit 220-320 and apply an adhesion promoter (U-POL GRIP#4). Then wait for 20 minutes before applying RAPTOR. You can check our RAPTOR Website for more information on the application: www.raptorcoatings.com

    I have a 6x10 trailer I want to use this one. the 2 sides and the floor. I want it to be as thick as Line X. you mentioned it was a thinner product than line x. do you have a different variation of this product that is thicker that can be applied with a gun we can buy with it?

    • @UPOLRaptor
      @UPOLRaptor  7 років тому

      Hi Bobby. Yes, RAPTOR is a thinner product compared to LINE-X, but keep in mind these are two very different chemicals. With RAPTOR, you can achieve a durable, scratch, chip, and chemical resistant surface at a fraction of the product thickness (and cost) of LINE-X.
      It is not recommended to apply more than 3 coats of RAPTOR (with a 60 minute flash in between coats). More build runs increase chance of solvent entrapment and product failure and will not significantly increase the durability of the product. Basically, you get more for less! Once you RAPTORize it, you won't go back to "those other guys"!

    • @UPOLRaptor

      Hi D Con. Each activated liter of RAPTOR will cover approximately 31 sq ft of surface area. A 1 liter kit (#UP4801) may be cutting it a bit close so - just to make sure that you don’t run short in the middle of your project, I would say that 2 of the 1 liter kits would be enough for your main project with some left over for anything else you may want to coat and protect. Additionally, when working on bumper covers and trim panels, which are generally TPO plastic, GRIP#4 Universal Adhesion Promoter is required to ensure proper adhesion.

      Hi Curtis, it will be more resistant than normal automotive paint for sure. You are right, the HVLP gun gives a smoother texture so it won't be as resistant as thick RAPTOR. It all depends on how you use your vehicle really, but RAPTOR, even applied with an HVLP gun, will be more resistant than normal paint.

      Hi ZABKAK1976. You can add additional coats at a later date, but you'll need to do some prep work. You can follow the original instructions: Remove loose material, clean, degrease; sand the application area; etch primer any exposed metal or use adhesion promoter on any exposed plastic; mix and spray! RAPTOR will adhere to itself after a bit of mechanical adhesion (sanding), so as long as you don't expose any substrates below, you won't need to primer anything.

      Hi Chief.
      Depending on how you spray, it should take between four and six 4L kits to spray the entire outside of the truck. Before you purchase, check your local distributor's return policy to see if you can return unused, unopened kits in case you purchase too much. RAPTOR has a 60 minute pot life once activated, so be sure to mix only as much as need at a time so you can use within pot life as well as return any unused product.

    • @UPOLRaptor
      @UPOLRaptor  7 років тому +1

      Hi VatoLocoCarpenter. Chrome presents some challenges. We cannot guarantee adhesion but reasonable results can be obtained if one of the following is used:
      1) Good - Grill - Sand the surface as well as possible, apply two coats of GRIP#4, allow to dry then apply RAPTOR. This technique was used by one of our sales men last year on a Toyota grill and it worked quite well.
      2) Best - Bumper and Grill - Sand the surface as well as possible, apply epoxy primer (following primers guidelines), than apply RAPTOR.
      Another option could be to sand and apply 2 coats of ACID#8 and then apply RAPTOR. Note that this has not been fully tested, so test in an inconspicuous spot first.

    would a 6 gallon 150 psi be able to do the job and i see alot of people in shops that 70 to 80 gives better coverage?

    • @UPOLRaptor
      @UPOLRaptor  7 років тому +1

      A 6 HP compressor that generates 150 PSI line pressure should provide sufficient air supply, but is dependent on the application equipment / gun (Shultz type or gravity feed HVLP) used to apply the RAPTOR.
      As far as atomizing air pressure - that is completely dependent on the look that you want to achieve. Higher air pressure generates higher atomization and produces a smaller particle size. 80 PSI seems high but if 80 PSI provides the texture and look that you find pleasing - go for it. Do a small test spray before you begin your project, and experiment with different PSI settings until you find the look you’re looking for.

    • @UPOLRaptor
      @UPOLRaptor  7 років тому

      Hi Zachary Harmon. One 4L kit of RAPTOR sprays about 125 square feet. Depending on your application technique, 4-5 kits should be plenty. If the distributor you're buying from accepts returns for any unused, unopened kits, buy more than what you think you'll need, so you don't have to run to the store mid-project. You can also purchase 1L kits (UP4801-4804) if you need a little extra but not a whole 4L kit.
      The grit sandpaper needed for you application depends on the substrate. For help choosing sandpaper and in generally with your application, check out the TDS here (sand paper on page 2): www.u-pol.com/storage/app/uploads/public/58e/fbb/ee5/58efbbee58741636085280.pdf

      You can buy the tint from your local automotive paint supply store, and they should be able to help you color match. When you go to your local automotive paint supply store, be sure to tell them for best color match results, Tintable RAPTOR requires a urethane single stage color. If you choose to use basecoat, ask your paint supplier to leave the binder out of the formulation so it is pure pigment. The final color will appear slightly lighter than the base color.
      Once mixed, check the color of the tinted system before spraying and adjust if critical. For tinting, typically 5% color is required for good opacity. When tinting above 5%, product will need to be mixed out of the bottle in a suitable mixing cup. For best color control, add color by weight. For best results, use the solvent based toners from basecoat mixing systems. RAPTOR® can also be tinted with solvent based basecoats and solvent based 2K solid color isocyanate cured paints. Where 2K paints are used this will also need to be activated before use.

    I want to spray my sons Honda four wheeler. I have ordered the adhesion promoter to spray on the plastic once the prep work is complete. • @UPOLRaptor
      @UPOLRaptor  7 років тому +1

      HI Donald. You will need to check to see what kind of plastic the four wheel is made of. Most flexible plastics are TPO, EDPM, & PP, which are all approved substrates. For these, abrade with 180-320 grit. Clean and degrease. An adhesion promoter is required for proper adhesion. U-POL GRIP#4 is recommended, which you've already purchased. Polyethylene, which is often found on ATVs, is a finicky material that has adhesion issues with most coatings. RAPTOR does not adhere to polyethylene, even with the use of adhesion promoter. Donald Tidmore I'm a little late in this matter. I own Cng-Hydrographics and do a lot of atv's etc. Most plastics are stamped on the underside. You can flame treat the plastics with a soldering torch. Do small maybe 8x8" squares just till it gets shiny. Immediately take with a spray bottle and spray 91 percent alcohol on it and wipe right away. Be sure to do the entire substrate like that. That will remove the releasing agent out of the plastic. I've never had a job come back. Any questions please feel free to ask.

    • @fjdriver
      @fjdriver 6 років тому

      U-POL, We do hydrographics also... 90% of our job is to make paint adhere to any kind of plastic, even Canadian plastic, which nothing wants to stick to... Flame treating plastic brings the release agents ( WD-40, silicone, etc.), that make the parts pop out of the mold when they're done, come up to the surface, so they can be removed with alcohol... Adhesion promoter, epoxy primer, or hydrographic paint will stick to any plastic using this process...

      Good morning, you typically need about 3 kits to do a small pick up truck. 3 kits will be 12 bottles. If your not doing the bed you can probably get it done with 2 kits. You will want to use urethane reducer UP2452 and reduce the Raptor 10% to make it roll easier. You have to sand the surface with a minimum of 180 grit sandpaper. A red scuff pad will not create enough of a scratch in the surface to make the Raptor adhere. Hope it helps, have a nice week end

    • @UPOLRaptor

      RAPTOR can be topcoated, but generally, it's not needed. RAPTOR dries to a semi-gloss/eggshell finish, which most people find to be plenty of gloss. Clearcoats do not have the same level of durability as RAPTOR and are more likely to chip under heavy duty use. Lightly abrade fully cured RAPTOR with a gray scuff pad. U-POL 2K clearcoats, like UP2882 and UP2872V, use the same resin system as RAPTOR so U-POL clearcoats will give the best results. Hi +Brandy Adams. RAPTOR does have UV inhibitors in the formulation, so it does have bit of a gloss to it already which won't fade or draw back. If you want even more gloss, any 2K clear can be applied over RAPTOR. U-POL does offer a line of coatings called System 20, which your local Jobber can order for you if they don't have it in stock. Even without a clearcoat, RAPTOR is very easy to clean and can be power washed once cured.

      Hi H S, RAPTOR is a coating made to last, so it is difficult to remove once cured. Once RAPTOR is cured, remove by sanding it off with P80 grit sandpaper either down to the original substrate or to bare metal. Then, respray the surface with another coating, like OEM paint colours.

    • @UPOLRaptor
      @UPOLRaptor  7 років тому

      Hi Jay Pereira. How close the color will match depends on the age of the vehicle, how weathered the original paint is, as well as the paint system used and the pigment density in the toners. Generally, you can get very close to a color match. The age of the vehicle and the texture, more so than the color, will impact the finished look when attempting to match a color on the vehicle.

    I'm spraying a 89 jeep cherokee 4 door next weekend with an hplv syphon feed and have 2 kits total of 8liters. iv read that 1 bottle sprays nearly 31sq ft so roughly 6×5 or 3×10. so should 8 bottles be enough for 2 good coats with a 10% thinned out ratio?

    • @UPOLRaptor
      @UPOLRaptor  7 років тому

      Hi svborek. The amount of product needed depends a bit on your application technique, but generally speaking, each bottle of RAPTOR sprays about 30 square feet with 2 coats. To do a complete overspray of your Jeep Cherokee will most likely take 4-5 kits total. It's better to order more than you need so you don't run out mid-application. Many distributors offer free returns of unopened product.

      U-POL 4 gallons of paint is WAY to much for my jeep cherokee. I sprayed my truck today. took 4 bottles do the whole truck and 2 more bottles to do the 2nd and third coat and turned out awesome. I have 2 bottles left over out of an 8 bottle pack. I would totally recommend this product for any diy. prep and masking is the WORST but the results are AWESOME and worth the weeks of prep. and I never used the thinned out or the hplv. straight bottle and spray gun.

      PORTER CABLE Model: 150 PSI 6 GAL - 6 Gal. 150 PSI Portable Air Compressor would this compressor be able to apply it ? Also i have been watching alot of videos and the true painters seem to think a higher pressure up to 80 is way better? I have seen a truck with a grey tint look real nice do you know who would offer the product with that tint? maybe charcoal grey or something? Sorry for all the questions but want to do it right the first time.

    • @UPOLRaptor
      @UPOLRaptor  7 років тому

      Visit your local automotive paint (PBE) supply store, and they can help you color match. Keep in mind that for tinting, typically 5% color is required for good opacity. Do not use waterbased systems to tint RAPTOR®.

    • @UPOLRaptor

      RAPTOR is a very versatile product, so a variety of tips could be used depending on the final look and texture you're looking for. Generally speaking, we suggest a 1.6-2.0mm tip setup, but you could experiment with other tip sizes. Spray some test panels to find the perfect look before doing the full project.

    so in litres how much harder do you put in a gravity feed gun

    • @UPOLRaptor
      @UPOLRaptor  7 років тому +1

      Hi Brian. RAPTOR is a 3:1 mix ratio, so the amount of hardener used is dependent on how much you need to spray, not what type of gun you are using. The easiest way to mix is in the bottle adding about 250ml of hardener to the line on the bottle. After shaking and activating, you can then pour into a gravity feed gun to spray. You can also use a graduated paint mixing cup that has pre-measured ratios if you want to mix outside the bottle.

    Where do I buy the toner\tint from to do my whole truck? Thanks

    • @UPOLRaptor
      @UPOLRaptor  7 років тому

      Hi Werner.

      Visit your local automotive paint (PBE) supply store, and they can help you color match. RAPTOR is compatible with any urethane based color, including 2K acrylic solid color and mixed acrylic basecoats, and can be added up to 10% by volume (ask your paint supplier to leave out the binders if possible for best pigment density.) NOTE: Acrylic basecoat toners tend to have high color strength so use sparingly (less than 10% tint by volume). RAPTOR cannot be used with water based, polyester, or enamel paints.

      @UPOLRaptor  7 років тому

      Hi d shook. Do can do either or both. U-POL suggests spraying a test panel before starting your project to find the exact texture and look you're looking for.
      U-POL does not offer RAPTOR in Lime Green. RAPTOR only comes black, white, or tintable from U-POL, the manufacturer. If you have found a colored kit online, it is likely to have been pre-tinted by the distributor. If you have any questions about a pre-colored product, you will have to contact the distributor directly.

    • @UPOLRaptor
      @UPOLRaptor  7 років тому

      Are you doing a complete exterior overspray or just the bed? For a full vehicle, U-POL suggests buying 4-5 4L kits from a distributor who offers free returns. No one wants to run out of product midway through a project, so buy a little extra with the option to return. For a short bed, 1 4L kit will be plenty. A 4L kit can spray up to 125 square feet or an 8-ft bed depending on your application technique,

    • @UPOLRaptor
      @UPOLRaptor  7 років тому

      Hi MrMrsregor. Keep in mind that POR-15 is not affiliated with nor is it endorsed by U-POL or RAPTOR. U-POL has not done testing on the compatibility of POR-15 and RAPTOR, but we can share anecdotal experience. RAPTOR can be applied over POR-15 when it has become "tack free" but has some drag. Time frames will be determined by atmospheric conditions (4-5 hrs at most or as few as 1.5 hrs).
      Check the gun manufacturer's recommendations first. Most guns, including our UP0726 application gun, can be cleaned with acetone or mild solvent. Make sure you clean the gun immediately after use (before the product cures). Once the product is hardened inside the gun and pick-up tube, it is very difficult to remove/clean.

    how is the durability of Raptor vs LineX ?

    • @UPOLRaptor
      @UPOLRaptor  7 років тому +2

      RAPTOR and LINE-X are completely different products, the chemistry of each having their own “pros and cons”. RAPTOR is a great cost effective alternative to products like Line-X but it’s difficult to make a direct comparison. RAPTOR is a thinner product which can produce a variety of textures and finishes, depending on the desired outcome and the application equipment used. RAPTOR can be tinted almost any color to meet a variety of color requirements. When properly applied, RAPTOR has very good impact, scuff and chip resistance. Another important feature is “reparability” - should RAPTOR or the underlying substrate become damaged, it is very easy and inexpensive to repair. Additionally, RAPTOR is UV stable and will not fade unlike many of its polyuria competitors.

      Thank you for your comment!
      Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and that’s what makes America Great! We base our claims on basic science and facts. Did you know Raptor is a 2K Urethane(2-component) coating? Herculiner is a 1K (one-component) coating. 2K coatings outperform 1K coatings in durability, UV resistance, chemical resistance, abrasion, flexibility and longevity. Its why your car is painted with a 2K Urethane from the factory and not in a 1K Acrylic. A coating may look great going on and you’ll be happy with it for a while, but over time a 1K will expose its shortcomings and will “chalk-up”, lose its luster and will never have the durability a 2K can offer from the day you apply it. Just like cars and trucks, there are many brands of coatings out there and everyone has a preference and a reason to purchase their own. At U-POL we want our customers to have the best products for their vehicles.

    • @brettsgroovychainsaws5995
