I did not realize that the broken piece was inside the SAta data cable. I discarded cable. Is there any repair service available that will do this? Also a WD drive- 2TB. TNX

Thanks, I’m definitely gonna have to try this. I recently found an old Dish Network DVR at Goodwill, and bought it solely to salvage its 500GB hard drive. ($8.99, yeah!) But when I tried to disconnect the very short SATA cable, the connector broke the exact same way yours did! ☹️

The big question is, what happens with the Sata data cable connector, if the plug has a clip activated release, because that release is then pointing towards the hdd body (almost hidden behind it) and is quite impossible to reach that way, if the angled adapter points upwards not downwards. I am facing exactly this situation right now, because my space is limited in the downward direction, making it impossible to have the angled adapter the other way around.

    • @talclipse

For a broken pin you will have to remove the grayish io frame, using a donor drive unsolder one of its pins, unsolder the broken pin and replace it with the good pin from the donor drive.

    • @lexcelius6921

Understand the video is 6 yrs old, but just run into this problem last week...
How to extract the broken piece from the cable? I tried pliers, even tweezers. OP mentioned "...slowly break back" but can't get a good grip! IS there a video on extracting the broken piece :)
Also is the glue part even necessary? Seems like the adapter would stay on just fine and the drive is not going to get plug-unplug often...

    • @Needshoe

Use a needle and you'll be able to slide the broken piece out just enough to grab it with a needle nose pliers.
