I did not realize that the broken piece was inside the SAta data cable. I discarded cable. Is there any repair service available that will do this? Also a WD drive- 2TB. TNX
you just saved me some 1/5th of my salary.. cheers for you mate.
The best fix out of two dozens I watched.
Thank you for the feedback!
Tested with a 10TB Western Digital HD and now it's working perfectly. Thank you very much :)
Thanks GR!
This fix was easy and saved my 6TB Toshiba hard drive. This was the only video that addressed this particular problem easily!
I had this happen to me on an SSD. I simply superglued the broken piece back on. Worked fine and much cheaper, though not as robust as this approach.
Thanks for the idea.i didn't know these adapters existed before watching. Was able to snag a 10tb drive at a good price..
Thnx a lot! just fixed 16tb ironwolf seagate!
thanks! super glued the broke piece back on and it worked!
Thanks, I’m definitely gonna have to try this. I recently found an old Dish Network DVR at Goodwill, and bought it solely to salvage its 500GB hard drive. ($8.99, yeah!) But when I tried to disconnect the very short SATA cable, the connector broke the exact same way yours did! ☹️
Thanks for the idea. Didn't know the adapters existed. I have a Blu-ray burner with the same issue. I got the replacement. Just have to install it. Seems solid, even without the glue gun. We'll see! Thanks again!
subscribed because you saved a guy 1/5th of his salary. cheers mate
Very helpful, I've done too and device working properly, many thanks.
I have a Toshiba internal HDD. Sata connector broke along with the #4 pin which I belive is a ground. If I still can get it connected with the missing ground pin not allow for data to be transfer to a new HDD?
Good Job! Thanks for the links.
you saved me 50 bucks haha
I was so close to buy a new hard drive but you saved me thanks again
that sata adaptor can we buy??
Hey bro, what if the pins are bent? How do you straighten them out? And how do I fix it or use an alternative solution? Thx
Do you know how to replace the motor contact ribbon cable?
Swinging by to say that I just saved a 6 TB WD Black with this fix. Thanks!
That's Awesome! Great work. The drive in this video is actually the main storage drive in my PC to this day!
@@GeezRips This saved a drive full of photos from my photography side-gig. They're now copied over to some mirrored drives, but I still have the now fixed drive in service because it's working just fine!
Because of a very bad and compact cable management on a Gamemax Expedition case I broke the sata connection of a 4tb hdd. Thanks for your help, I managed to glue it, now it's working again
what if the points of the port broke off?
pls help i cant let this thing break can i maybe use the port netxt to the sata cable port?
Thank you bro, amazing fix
Which adapter did you buy that you mentioned in the list? is it the right angle one or the left angle one. which way should we buy with the entrances facing up like yours? Thanks.. I think left angle?
Thank you very much, it worked
Question, what if the actual clip is broken and missing at the same time? can you still do this method?
too bad there is no response. This is my same issue :(
My same too =((
Same!
TY! Just fixed an 8TB I just bout 2 months ago!
Thank you so much, this solution helped me a lot , I was going to buy another hdd, you saved my hdd 😭
Do you have a video where you replace the SATA connector/port on a laptop mobo? For the DVD/CD ROM drive? Thank you 🤓
Can I now use the drive in a a docking station (internal to external USB)?
My old computer is kaput.
bro you saved my life thank you 😭😭😭😭😭
Will it still work without the plastic bit thats been broken off?
Locking SATA cables are a nightmare- they usually stick and the connector on the drive breaks way too easily.
God bless you, i got same issue when i've tried to pull SATA cable out of 4 TB HDD, but it wewnt wrong. Fortunately, it is reparable.
You can also use an extension cable for a cheaper and messier look, but I dont care since I want the data back from it.
Thank you...this will save my perfectly good 10TB drive!
Would it work the same if the sata pins broke off the motherboard? I had someone try to take the bracket off, and the left and right pin, 1 and 7 broke
The big question is, what happens with the Sata data cable connector, if the plug has a clip activated release, because that release is then pointing towards the hdd body (almost hidden behind it) and is quite impossible to reach that way, if the angled adapter points upwards not downwards. I am facing exactly this situation right now, because my space is limited in the downward direction, making it impossible to have the angled adapter the other way around.
I wonder if model airplane glue would work on that type of plastic- it seems like a similar type.
I was cleaning my pc out and tipped it and it snapped the lock right off the cable hopefully I can find a replacement sata cable somewhere
Quick question i dont have part that broke so what to do?
Ican send my brocken board picture can you tell any use full idea
thanks&Regards
Hari
Would Super glue work or do I have to use Hot Glue?
Just a question, you cannot just use superglue to put the plastic piece back on the drive and be done with it instead of this fancy stuff?
Plastic piece on my 8TB WD White drive snapped off. Hopefully this will fix it.
Link to the adapter?
The only problem with this for me is: the plastic piece can't be found, and not only that, but 3 of my pins are snapped in half as well. Do you think I can still fix the drive?
NO , the reply is too late i know but there is a solution
How to fix connector on ssd m.2 ?
My Sata ATA cable is currently connected to my SSD and staying in place with blutack, I play a fun game where if the wire moves the slightest little bit (be it from wind or me trying to move an inch....it stops working
It's been a fun month, other then having to save fallout every 30 seconds just incase, it's not so bad 😐
Is fixing a broken pin on SSD the same ?
Broken pin itself, is a whole different story, but the plastic piece, is what this videobis going over, should be same for each hdd/ssd
For a broken pin you will have to remove the grayish io frame, using a donor drive unsolder one of its pins, unsolder the broken pin and replace it with the good pin from the donor drive.
I broke the SATA Data pins. What should I do to fix it?
You’ll have to order the exact same model of HDD and canibalize it for parts. Specifically you’ll have to take the Circuit board off both so you can swap the Sata Pin Connectors.
@@lexcelius6921 I did order the same exact model but I put data on it, that being said, if I swap the boards, do I still need to swap the BIOS chip?
I don't have the peice that broke off when it happened I was so mad I just stormed off so ... Idk I'm awake it work tho thanks bro
Understand the video is 6 yrs old, but just run into this problem last week...
How to extract the broken piece from the cable? I tried pliers, even tweezers. OP mentioned "...slowly break back" but can't get a good grip! IS there a video on extracting the broken piece :)
Also is the glue part even necessary? Seems like the adapter would stay on just fine and the drive is not going to get plug-unplug often...
Use a needle and you'll be able to slide the broken piece out just enough to grab it with a needle nose pliers.
That's how I got mine out.
awesome vid, but that preview window is not only annoying on the top left but covers some things.
What if the pins are broken off... ?
if it works it works.
I can't get plasic part can I still do this
yes :P
There is realy no other easier solution than that? My brokrn part fell totally apart so i cant connect it to the new one..or at least with the plastic part on...thanks...
What if my pins broken ?
I hate those locking sata cables. No need for a lock. I just break them off because it's hard to find those cables without the locking mechanism at a reasonable price, especially when you need right angle ones.
glue guns are very cheep
I accidentally broke the plastic piece off but I never found it again. I believe it got vacuumed and is now gone forever. Is there a way to fix it without the original plastic piece? Maybe find another one from another sata port? Please help I really don't want to waste a perfectly good and honestly bit expensive ssd
buy a broken hard drive on ebay. plug broken hard drive into sata/psu. break the plastic piece... use it on ur main drive.... profit
Could you cut up an old gift card/credit card and wedge that in there?
@@kg6097 you probably "could" but it wouldn't be as good since the actual plastic piece has grooves to keep the pins from contacting each other so you run the risk of pins shorting against each other
Do u need a glue gun and does it work with an SSD?
As long as it I he same connection, it should work.
This is not a "repair". You won't be able to place this hdd into the hdd case. This is just making HDD work but with crutches.
can you use super glue if you don't have a glue gun
Absolutely but it would be much harder to remove if ever you needed to. Just be careful that it doesn't drip all over as it is much thinner.
+ITXtended thanks so much I just fixed mine that I didn't know was broken until I tried to upgrade the ram which was a failure.... I used your method but I used a piece of plastic to fix the connector and put it inside and used electrical tape.... hoping it holds for at least an month
Excellent, I'm glad this video could be of assistance to you! Here's to hoping it holds up!!!
@@GeezRips I need backup Or not
That piece is way too weak.
