This video contains a step-by-step explanation of how you can build this great axe sharpener system yourself. This is even possible with hand tools and a drilling machine. With this great system you can repeat the convex geometry of your hatchet without any problems and you get a super sharp cutting edge.

Very well done Felix! If I didn't already have the KME axe sharpener along with the KME knife sharpening system, I would build this in an instant! One thing to note...KME sells the convexing rod for $18.95 USD and it includes 2 stops to limit the travel of the diamond plates on the axe head. I don't know how much you spent on that rod, but it is something to consider. I'm going to watch your friends videos next. I like these collaborative videos! THANK YOU FELIX!! UPDATE:.....I watched all three videos. While all 3 work, your design and ease of function, along with easiest repeatability, is clearly the best IMO. Nicely done Felix!

I have had this same idea for a repeatable axe sharpener - again based on the Edge Pro Apex knife sharpener design. I like your version of it. What is the name of those clamps? Also you can add a lip on the edge of the face that holds the diamond stones so when you push hard into the blade, there will be a small mechanical stop to prevent the diamond stone from sliding against the magnets.

For a long time I thought, a convex grind would be best for an axe - after I bought a Fiskars A6 and saw, how well it performs with a flat grind, I'm not sure any longer. Cutting down a mature juniper with five limbs of 10cm diameter, the Fiskars was a lot faster than my convex 25° Toom-axe.

@@FelixImmler - May be, I didn't split wood with my Fiskars yet - but I remember my father saying, that a splitting axe shouldn't be really sharp, instead a bit blunt, because the head shall not cut the fibers, but wedge between them.

@@mannihh5274 I recent bought an antique axe with a very blunt and thick convex edge. I sharpened it as best as I could (so it could slice paper) but due to the extremely thick edge geometry it was not good at chopping. But when I tried it for splitting, it was amazing.
