Glad your talking about over use of goalies being on their knees. Especially small or younger goalies in a non shot/save situation. See a lot of goalies on their knees as soon as the puck is below the goal line.

This is the perfect example of practicing common game scenarios so that it becomes instinct.

Hats off to the two players who executed the drills nearly flawlessly. Doing that is a lot more tiring than it seems. Good sports.

Thanks for showing us ! That behind the net pass to front is very hard to stop! I get scored almost everytime.

    Very good drills!
I would of really liked to hear your thoughts on proper mechanics of the goalie moves and what he did wrong on the goals.

In many previous videos we covered the proper mechanics of each situation and agree there are lots to correct on any goalie. I wanted to keep this video very dialed in to just the basics of drill set ups and delivery. I appreciate you watching.

Hey I have a question, I am pretty small for a goalie, and the only way that I can make saves against really good players especially on break aways is essentially putting myself in a sort of starfish like pose, is that what I should be doing or is there a better way?

I would go through the videos on my channel with detailed breakdowns of how to tidy up your breakaways.

Love the video.. only criticism is the goalie on many of these drills was spinning and sliding way out of position after addressing the initial shot. Real bad habit to develop for game situations

No question. That is a point of emphasis as he is ideally getting drafted to the OHL this year and that over pursuit will be exposed.

Don’t know if that was more of a workout for your shooters or the goalie. Those all look like really good drills. How often should you throw variations into a drill to keep the goalie “honest” and simulate the randomness that happens in a game? Much easier to make saves when you know where the shooter is. Also, how about bad defense drills? We all have that one guy that loves to play out of position, or tip every shot, clear rebounds right to the tape of the opposing team, or best yet… loves to “pass” it back to you in a scramble so you can cover it.

Building realism and drill variants are the hallmarks of professional full time goalie coach. A key talking point on almost every drill we do related to game situations is time and speed reads. For instance, on a give n’ go drill, the final effort will be entirely dependent on how much time and space the shooter feels. If he knows he is about to get laid out by a big D, he will just quickly catch and release. If he has gap he may try creative crap.

I personably feel the shin lock method covers more holes and is much easier on the knees and joints, plus you don't have to worry about missing the post with your toe or pad. With the height of the pads and longer blade holders there's too much of a hole and I've been seeing a lot of goals get scored that way. With the shin lock you don't have to worry about that.
