Love it. They have all off season to prepare for this game. They know who KC is KC doesn't know who the Lions are particularly on the improved defense. They have a mini-bye to prepare for the next game and iron out any kinks they have in the 1st game. There is a reason why the 1st week of the season is the most unpredictable in the NFL.
Going to Arrowhead for the first game, also being primetime is a rough way for any team to start the season. Hopefully the Lions can keep it close.

The one argument I would make against this though is the Lions have vastly improved during both seasons under this coaching staff as they seem to figure things out the deeper into the year we get

It's a great matchup, great story lines and no one knows what the other team will bring for the opener. Goff-Mahomes rematch, finally, from the epic 2018 game in the LA Coliseum. The Rams-Chiefs last year was pathetic. This game is what the fans want to see. Cannot wait and should be wildly entertaining. Both the QBs love playing with the bright lights on. Go Lions!!!

I think this is the perfect way to start the season. I don't know if they can beat the Cheifs, but I can't think of a better opponent to face in order to get their heads out of the clouds. A year of great press after finishing strong, I feel that having a daunting opponent will help Campbell get the team focused and ready to go.

Detroit Lions are deserving of the first win of the season and that is being chosen to play in the NFL season opener! That's a win in itself!!! Lions fans have been waiting, and wait, and waiting, and waiting for so long to cheer, to celebrate and to be fanatical. Those thumps you will be hearing throughout the season won't be from all the people jumping on the band bandwagon it will be from diehard fans knocking them off! Go Lions!!!
I honestly would prefer the Lions didn't open the season at Arrowhead. It's not a guranteed L, but a likely one. And I think it's critical in the NFL to get a good start, even if I think the Lions are likely to win most of their other games. A game against an average opponent is the prefered way IMO to kick off the season.
I'm just the opposite. This team has to learn to prepare against every opponent with the same intensity week after week. Set the standard with this game. They are playing the world champs in their home stadium, when they raise their super bowl banner. I already know that after one day, DC is pumping his team up....and the rest of the staff is ready to go to war. This young team needs the challenge to set the tone for the rest of the season. And with the prep work going on....they will be ready to compete, and will know they need this intensity for every game the rest of the season. To go to heights this franchise hasn't been to since 1957. #onepride

If you want to fancy yourself a division contender, a superbowl contender, you have to play and beat these teams
The first game of the season is usually a Super Bowl rematch or a playoff rematch. This is the first time since the TNF game started the season that a non-playoff team has played in that game. This would imply that the NFL believes that the Lions are going to have double-digit wins on their way to the playoffs. Maybe I'm Lionized but those expectations seem kind of high.

Time and again the defending champs come out flat after the banner ceremony. That's quite the emotional dump right before a game. If the chiefs live up to this tradition the lions will be up by 21 b4 they know it. Spring board into the greatest season in the franchises history

We had Philly last year in the opener and they stuck in that game well. I don't see why you don't like the opponent.

The only reason Michigan hides is because they are at levels that 90% of college football teams aren't at so almost every great team plays mismatches every week. This is why the NFL is so much better than college football is every game is winnable for both teams
This Michigan hiding perspective is an example of terrible recency bias. Yeah the last couple years haven't been thrilling but they used to play Norte Dame every year and there's tons of examples where they're trying to schedule competitive non conference games. Hell like a decade ago they had Alabama and Norte Dame non conference and they both made the championship game haha. It's not like this is something they've done forever or are continuing to do with games with Texas and Oklahoma coming up for example.

Rico is still a SOL fan, clearly. The Lions can beat the Chiefs. KC won't know how to best prepare for the LIons when we have so many new players. And I don't get Rico saying 'young secondary,' since the three DB's we added through free agency are experienced, smart players. I think Maholmes wiil be over-agressive against the LIons and he'll throw a couple interceptions, and maybe one being a pick six. Stop being scared Rico. As someone else mentioned already, we have all summer to prepare for this game. If I was the Lions coaching staff, I would be working on how best to make that game with KC an unpleasant night for the Chiefs, starting now. Wish we had Jamo for the game, but I think the WR the Lions got late in the draft may play in the 1st game, and be a factor in it.
