10NL but EVERY TIME I HAVE KINGS I LOSE A STACK?! | Top 10 Hands Of The Week Ep. 52

  • After a brief intermission of running decently last week and having some heroes donate to the challenge, we are unfortunately back to earth with a rather large bang. Honestly I forgot how sick this week was in the context of everything else, but every one of these hands is within a sample of 4000 hands played over a week. And it might not be the worst week in terms of beats, but to lose this many times with kings certainly seems unreasonable at the very least...
    Can you see any of the hands where you wouldn't have gone broke? I think you could have a case for maybe one or two, but not many! I decided to leave in a lot of my reactions for this one and I was getting a bit annoyed, but by the end I kind of started to lose my mind!
    If you've enjoyed this series then please do subscribe to the channel, it's a massive help! Here's to another 50, but maybe we could run a little better over the next half century!
    All the hands that you see in Top 10 from the $1,000 10NL Challenge are played live on my Twitch channel. If you want to see it live then make sure you drop me a follow so you know when I'll be playing! / eastyyy22

    I think you can win a lot by inducing and by pot controlling more. Obviously preflop KK isn’t going anywhere, however post on boards like J97 you’re never going to stack weak Jacks or A9 but you will get stacked by all hands that beat your overpair.
    KK needs dry Q or J high boards and clean run outs to stack AQ,KQ,AJ. Also,
    Try implementing weirdly small sizing to induce bluffs.
    Basically, work on your redline a lot and that will help offset when you run bad with your QQ+.

    Sadly very funny but in quite a horrific way. The rants are gold though it really is that simple.
    Honestly this vid series just gives a dismal insight into how insane variance is. To be breakeven after 66K hands with the size of the edge you have over field is depressing, just takes so fucking long to build a roll esp. if one has has a full time job.

    I think that zoom games are pretty tough. Doyle said "poker is war, but people pretend that it is a game" which may have been true when he said it; and indeed, we are still playing for money. However, to the people who aren't treating it as war (the fabled "recreational players" who don't even watch Brad Owen despite somehow still wanting to donate thousands to you) it's still a game, and it follows the life cycle of games that people play for fun. Imagine trying to be a Warcraft 3 or a Counterstrike or a Super Smash Bros or a Tetris player right now at a competitive level. Imagine how fucking hard that would be.
    Why is it hard? Because the people who were content to lose aren't playing anymore. The value of the game as a *game* (and not a dimension of discipline/mastery) has been exhausted. Maybe they play normal tables on GG or they play zoom on ignition because a HUD is too much work. Maybe they are there. But the training material you see these days that assumes you can just sit down in any $2/$5 and the action will go limp limp limp jam for 35BB and the guy shows up with A2s... yeah, no.
    Obviously you will get these donks who will sometimes show up with some bullshit and sometimes it will get there. But you have the persistent drip drip drip of the rake too, and every 4 or 5 sessions you've paid so much rake that you have to stack a fish just to pay for it. So if you can't articulate an edge that you have against the regs, then you're probably just treading water.
    You keep saying obviously you're all in in these spots where it isn't actually obvious, or at least it should be contingent on the relevant HUD stat, I am convinced there are guys in these pools who literally just play tight/passive until they have 2 pair plus then stack it off hoping someone has one pair.
    This idea of being a pro poker player--- you want to sit on your computer and receive goods and services from the rest of the world who are shoveling literal shit, slitting pigs' throats, entering data all day, whatever; they are paying you because you are good at balancing-- or not balancing-- an overbet range, and the bad reg who leaks to you is paying for "recreation" and will just keep paying without plugging the leak? I mean it's hard to existentially justify that to the point that you'd be on solid ground raging because the world isn't handing you that.
    If you can't beat 10NL, either the game is unbeatable or you need to work harder to beat it, that's the bottom line. I feel like there are some guys who are beating it but they are very unlikely to tell you what lines they are using on reddit or whatever. I suspect from my 100k+ hands of experience that this stake that they are doing highly exploitative things to engineer a line on your part which they can exploit. Like using stone bluffs instead of natural bluffs so that their HUD stat looks the same but they have all the high equity semibluffing hands in their calling/checking range. Or they are using reverse timing tells so that you call in a spot where you're always folding or always calling a river. If I knew exactly then I would be profitable. But I don't think it's like "oh i drilled with GTO Wizard for 6 months now I grind out 2bb/hr through passive exploitation." Maybe some guys moved up that way. But the level of mental horsepower to implement that over the hands you have to play with 20s timers? You probably have to develop it off-table or on "normal" tables. Like speed chess, it doesn't make you a better overall chess player because you're forced to cut corners. So zoom is its own thing-- time equity and all that.
    In any case, the money isn't coming because they got it in pre with AKs, KK+ and held. It's other edges for sure.
    Fedor said not to think about where you are today because it's totally irrelevant to the money/stakes you will eventually be at. Use the place you eventually want to be at as your frame of reference and compare the man you are today to the man who beats that level and what you *know* about how he organizes his life and approaches the game.
    If you do that then you realize that 10NL is just a training tool, a dojo, not much different than pokersnowie or GTOwizard. You wouldn't get angry if you got it in good on pokersnowie, because no money is involved and the whole point of it is 'did I make the right decison.' So with real players you have reads and stats, but it's the same principle. Compared to where you aspire to be, you are basically playing for no money. So losing it to a stupid suckout really shouldn't hurt.

  • @Veristex
    @Veristex 2 роки тому

    I want to preface this question by saying that I'm a poker noob so not trying to give advice - but why do we bet small (especially on turn) allowing them to draw. Do we not want to charge their draws. Especially at 10NL where the pool is weaker than you, and not thinking about the hands the way you do. Instead you can exploit them by making them pay for the draws (e.g. hand #3)?
    Once again, I'm not a good player so genuine question.

    • @Veristex
      @Veristex 2 роки тому

      My thinking comes from the fact that in my experience lots of people see bigger (pot) sized bets as bluffs and will continue and see small bets as stronger holdings trying not to 'scare off' the opponent. Small bluffs work less at these stakes so players only see bluffs as bigger sizes?

    • @FefeLeVrai
      @FefeLeVrai 2 роки тому

      There are extremely few draws in hand 3. The only draw is AXcc, and with the Kc on the board he needs to have AQ/AJ/AT of clubs to have a draw.

    if nothing else, this video sort of underscores how you seem to insist on playing for stacks (postflop) whenever you have a top pair hand, regardless of how the board runs out and regardless of how the opponent(s) respond to your bets.
    but I guess it is a "highlight reel" so maybe you don't really do it every time.
    it's like whenever you get AA or KK you decide you're going to play for stacks before you even see the flop.
    kind of like the bad live reg that waits for hours to get AA and then loses his stack when he has red aces and the board is 6789 with 3 clubs.
    yeah, it sucks when they flop a set on you or turn a flush, but there is no rule that says you must lose your stack with a one pair hand.
    or is it some GTO thing I am unfamiliar with?

    This is exactly why I quit online poker. It’s almost unbeatable at this point. The sites being rigged for action is so blatantly obvious at this point. It doesn’t matter how tight you play, how fundamentally sound you play. I’ve held aces and gotten beat so many times all in by smaller pairs it’s sickening. Having a set on the flop them getting coolered by runner runner same suit or connecting cards to give a flush or straight. May as well fold 2 pair in the flop cause runners are coming. And still people are going to scream, “variance”, “bad player” etc. y’all are brain dead zombies at this point if you can’t see.

    the problem (other than runbad obviously) is youre too entrenched in playing "gto" against whales. 6:30 is a fold 100% of the time. youre burning money trying to play mathematically optimal poker against donkeys that are literally showing you their hands

    You’re a good player but the mental game is truly lacking. Need a chill pill or something. Poker owes nothing to no one. We all go through exactly the same pain, but we have to stay analytical and not emotional about the whole thing. Every time you’re like I’m gonna get stacked again, this only happens to me etc etc. Happens to everyone. We have to roll with it and make the best plays. That KK on 22Q9 is a clear fold
