- As requested by several subscribers, we take a look at both versions of the Saab Lansen available to players in War Thunder.
With the Viggen coming soon, I suspect there will be a renewed interest in the Swedish tech tree, so check out this review to get an idea what you're in for.

If it isn't obvious what happened in the footage - the guy at 5:50 flew down into my missile *after* I had fired it at someone else. I can't imagine the odds on that, just terrible luck!

hey i posted this on another one of your videos but i see you saying in the vid here that you black out all of the time with untrained crews. there's a trick where if you pull negative g's for a split second, it will reset your pilot's positive g tolerance so you can keep turning. all you have to do is press W for a split second, although the exact timing can be different from plane to plane, and then you can keep turning with the S key. i NEVER black out since i have started using this trick and think it would help you a lot!

the lansen is "made" to be able to withstand a belly landing, as is all swedish designed and made jets due to the road take of capability
basically all Swedish jets were made with a thick belly to assist in belly landings because runways were expected to get destroyed
9.7 subsonics like the Cl-13B , G91-YS and the J32 are pretty bad in the current meta thanks to airspawn cancer.

The Draken grind is so bad rn because of this, I’m 100k research away from it and as a free to play player it is hard to manage my money because a 15k repair cost is frustrating when I can’t dodge 30g missiles
For what it's worth, for Ground forces, I'd recommend the 250kg bombs on the A32A - they have nearly the same amount of filler as the 500's, but you get an extra bomb drop. Coupled with the ballistic computer, it's pretty much 3 guaranteed kills.
3:53 we have a single example of aircraft mounted guided anti-ship munitions ingame already. The Fritz-X guided bomb was an Anti-ship weapon developed by Germany in WWII, and is carried ingame by the He-177, as well as on a Do-217 and He-111, though I can't remember at the moment which exact model has them.
In warthunder only he-177 and he-111 that use it xd
There were a couple of cool suggestions by SAAB for future SAAB 32s. For example, an attacker based on the J 32B - if the SAAB 37 system failed.. Could have been cool (but not as good as the AJ 37). Just like an attacker based on the JA 37 for an updated AJ 37 could have been later on.. :)
Were I did my service, the old F 6 wing was as well. Used the airfield alot as well as the old mess when ours was renovated. And outside was an old A 32A as a gate guardian. F 6 was also the last ones to fly the A 32A - to 1978 iirc, when they got brand new AJ 37s instead. The rest of the service they were used as target tugs and collection radiation from the atmosphere... Still, to 1978 was kinda long for that airframe. They were pretty well used and beaten up by then.
There is another gate guardian, I´ve seen, at old F 14 wing as well, a frankenstein A 32A made from two old airframes. My dad grew up watching those go up low over the Kattegat, as a kid.. Cool planes.
The RB 04C is something to look forward too.. :)
I´ve used it a little bit in GFs at 9.0.. Kinda tough. 1955-ish aircraft facing 1970s (?) SPAA and so on.. Pretty tough.But the m/50, 600 kg bombs do good damage. There is a lot of high x in there..
The J 32B has similar problems.. 1960 aircraft - or was it 1958? Often facing 70s aircraft... Yeah..

Tim, have you considered reviewing the F-8 Crusader? It's one of the best jets at top tier but unfortunatley due to taking a bit of skill to fly.
I dont have it unlocked, but if/when I ever get it, a video will go up. I'm a big fan of the F=8's unique role in the cold war.
The Lansen is still used to this day to take air samples which helps detect nuclear tests or just volcano ash.
Two J32B Lansen are airworthy with the Swedish Air Force historic flight.
The RB04 might have been the first Swedish air launched anti ship missile but it's not first generation.
It's the worlds first sea skimming anti ship missile and is more akin to the 1970's Exocet than anything contemporary. The missiles where top secret and banned from export because they where so vital to invasion defence and their advanced nature. There was nothing on the market that even came close to it's capabilities until the late 70's
A fun fact is that it can trace it's origin directly to the V1 buzz bomb as the autopilot of the buzz bomb was used as the basis of the autopilot on the RB04, many V1 bombs crashed in Sweden when they where tested on the Baltic coast by the Germans.
Just as I was getting into swedish jets, the A32 being the 2nd one I'll use for grind. Thank you Tim!

3:56 I was so sure you were about to kill him with those bombs.
I've found that a 1-1.5 second timer on jets is perfect.
I've used my F4s 750lbs ×6 as VERY EFFECTIVE as Anti-Aircraft bombs.
I've gotten about 7 or 8 kills this way.
So if you ever see a slow, helpless jet flying low DONT GET LOW AND CLOSE.

Don't grind the Draken with the J32B guys, its awful at its BR, use the A32a, it has ballistic computer with decent rockets and guns, ground pound your way to the Draken! Also good ammo count for those G91's who dare head on with you ❤️
I disagree I think the a32 is way worse
I used the Saab-105g as I loved that
SK60 with prox mclos missiles works great in 7-8 tbh loved it.

100% my go to for silver lions is a23a on realistic battles with a booster. Just ground pound away and if any fighters mess with you you still have tracers, and a lot of them. Which imo is easier to get kills with in rb considering the j32b has no tracer options.

The j32b is pretty good in sim, and was my go to first spawn before the recent changes.
tap the pull down key when your screen turns black and continue the turn it resets the G timer thing and lets you turn more without blacking out
3:41 The Aj 37 Viggen was indeed a dedicated low altitude attack aircraft, albeit with some self-defence capabilities, which explains the choice of engine, giving it low level performance unmatched at the time.

When i played with friends at 9.7, i was averaging 2-3 kills per game without dying. The J-32 best played like a support fighter on the sidelines, picking off enemies that arent paying attention.
gaijin did the j32 dirty, it was balanced and fun when it was introduced... a month later it was 10.0 with 20k repair cost!
Lansen B was never meant to be a daytime fighter. It was a all weater itrerceptor. At that time the average jet was not very able to intercept bombers in adverse weather. It was not meant to fight with migs and the like. It is the same misunderstanding with the aj 37 viggen. It is a attack aircraft with a fighter edge so it doesnt need a fighter escort. The real fighters where Tunnan, Draken and JA 37 Viggen which was a compleaty different aircraft even if it looks the same.

I'm really surprised here actually. The J32B is by far my most successful jet in WT with something like 3-1 kd ratio. This was in early 2021 so I don't know if the matchmaking at it's tier has changed a lot since then. I tried taking it out a few days ago only to notice, to my disappointment that Swedish jets (at least in the fighter line) get no tracers anymore. Which makes the gun incredibly hard to aim.
I'm also not sure why the repair cost is 18k lions (!!!). The Draken and Viggen are both way cheaper to run.

You spray so much one those ground targets! It annoys me but still very good video.
I like the J32 except that the flaps can rip early. First sim fight; Two kills, died due to flaps coming off before landing

Another bad thing with the J32 is that the 30mms no longer have tracers. So you can’t see where your shots are going making it even worse. Stick to the A32.

@@TimsVariety damn tim, i was NOT expecting a reply from the man himself in a 2 year old vid. i love your content man. i looked up your review because i just now got both jets researched and bought, and am trying to figure out what i should use to grind out Sweden air. i got the j35a for 50% off a while ago and i just don't really like it for grinding. its playstyle is so damn specific that it makes it a drag to grind a whole tech tree with. but with the A32 and J32 B.R. i the current state, it may be a viable option. any tips for grinding air Sweden? thanks again Tim
@@joshsullivan8527 For my 5cents, the Saab105g is the best grinder in that range. My vid on "efficiently grinding the tech trees" discusses how I did sweden.
@@TimsVariety Sadly the saab 105 is a rank V while im researching rank VII now, but i appreciate the reply non the less. I'll give your grinding tips video a watch again if what you're saying is true. I'm excited for the Grippen to be introduced to war thunder and I know you are too. (that's the whole reason im grinding the tech tree lol) keep making your videos Tim, i watch all your videos (even the hour-long ones) because your opinions are typically fascinating and well thought out. Even in gaijin was paying you money directly, i don't believe you would become a sell-out or that it would alter your view on the game. I believe your heart is too much in the right place for that to happen.

the reason why you keep blacking out and ripping your wings, is because first, you just turn as hard as you can even when you start blacking out hard. you can avoid that by NOT continuedly turning and do a slightly less agressive turn and to not rip the wings, stop trying to turn hard when going over 1000kmph bc that will result in extreme wing overload. or in a nutshell most of the problems you encountered can be easily avoided/prevented if you were more careful

I think they both are a little over tiered.. The A 32A is a good attacker.. But 9.0? I dunno.

pfff i again unlock a plane with so much hope and....again a Jet with wings fragiles....So stupid gaijin!! So, you put like in real life for all planes or none, but tired its always the 3/4 same Nations with wings rip and never Germany or Soviet except 1/2 exceptions who have no consequences because so many other choice!!!
