Will the Academic 266XL be offered in the alternate colors?
Wixoss next? 🥲
I need advice, from personal experience when I came back into yugioh the game last sometimes just after my first turn or even before my first turn, so in frustration I wanted to come up with my own TCG and would like to know the steps into doing that and have you ever done a video on Duel Masters tutorial? I loved that game because it was a easier understanding of Magic the gathering for me and better in general.
Thanks for giving our little game a showcase, Prof! You did a great job and I'll definitely be directing newer players to this guide. Let's go plus ultra together. 💥
OMG! I HAD NO IDEA THIS WAS UNIVERSUS! I started playing with the Mortal Kombat set. It's such a good game. Thank you for covering it, Professor! 😆
No problem!
We have announced that we will be adding a "standard" format for people that want to use cards outside of the MHA format. Join the community for more info!
@@Vermazing Are Universus sets now standalone and self contained? Back when it was UFS, each set was just another set. So you could bring Felicia (Darkstalkers) to a game vs Sub-Zero (MKX). Is that no longer the case?
@@kalosprismatic So, the trick with that is the "stand alone" came with the MHA set and started the "MHA-only" format. That said, Standard is still a thing and you can take MHA cards into Standard. You just can't take Standard cards into a MHA-Only format.
Think of it like Standard vs Modern in MtG.
@@kalosprismatic Currently MHA has its own solo format. But Older ips are in the standard/legacy format. You can mix in MHA cards in the Stand/Legacy format
I’ve been playing this game since 2007, and I’ve never seen a better explainer video. This was so incredible, thank you for the time you spent putting this together
You've been playing this game since I was born😅
SInce 2007? Didn't MHA come out in 2014? Unless these game rules also apply to other Universus games.
Yeah so Universus started out as the Universal Fighting System back in 2006. The game system stayed relatively the same through it all, but got a name changed to Universus and then started a really heavy MHA focus once they got the license.
The OG game was based on fighting games mostly and collected all kinds of licenses - Street Fighter, Soul Caliber, Tekken etc. Eventually they got out of fighters exclusively, picked up Mega Man for a while, and now they have MHA. You could also mix cards from the licenses to make decks, so Ryu throwing mega busters and snake man throwing shoryukens at people.
Wow, someone else who has played this game as long as I have!! I really hope they get the Fighting Game licenses back, considering the original inspiration for the game!
Remember that none of these cards can replace your heart.
Edgeshot isn't in the game.... yet
That’s enough out of you lol
Yeah that’s because the Himiko Toga cards are my heart bru 💀👍
Hello Professor! As an up and coming content creator in the MHA landscape and the current #2 ranked player worldwide in the competitive scene I cannot tell you how much I appreciate a large content creator like yourself making content for the game I love so much, and I hope to see more of it in the future!
Can you mix and match different universes? Like Todoroki having sub zero’s freeze attack? Lol
(I just saw they have MK universus and hoping/assuming Sub is included)
@@Bored_Barbarian yes. In any non My Hero Academia format, such as standard.
Do you know how you can get started playing if there’s no events for it where you live?
I have a fun question for you. Is there an online client?
YOOOO WE MADE IT FAM
WE DID IT REDDIT
Dear Professor, thank you for making this video. This game is great and I hope that this tutorial will help making the community grow. Cheers from Poland and thank you for creating awesome videos through all these years.
I played this game for years, back when it was called Universal Fighting System. I used to run tournaments for it. It is super fun!
@Calm101 I still have my Sakura reversal deck somewhere. Lol.
Can't wait to have this video playing in my shop.
I love it when the community college covers non mtg games. I would be interested in a follow up video checking in on the various non mtg games that have been covered in the past
I hear this one is a lot of fun from others at my LGS. Might give it a shot.
So excited to see this game picking up more & more traction as time goes on, it's such a fun game to play, both competitively and casually
Didn’t even know this game existed. But it looks good. Less goooo
Whoa, I played this card game engine when it was known as Universal Fighting System (UFS). Back then about 15 years ago, I was playing cards based on Street Fighter, Samurai Showdown, King of Fighters. So yes, I very well know how to play this game already and very happy its managed to survive after all these years! 😁
So the QR codes for MHA Universus sends us to the professor, That's awesome. You've come along way from just magic. Congratulations.
Been a UFS/Universus player for a long time. Really happy to see you covering the MHA format! This new format has brought a lot of life back into the Standard community locally as well! Thank you for helping to get more eyes on my favorite cardboard crack!
Hey ryoken Angelos do you know what this reply you got is I got one to and have no idea what it is
Excellent video, professor!
Thank you so much for this video prof.
Honestly? i tried so many videos before yours, and they did not click.
You explained it in a way that made it simple, broke down each step in order, in such a way that it was easy to understand.
Just got into MHA a month ago and it’s awesome. Can’t wait for Nationals next month.
Never cease to amaze us Professor. This is the first good how to play video for this game and encompasses everything a new player needs to know to start. Thank you.
There’s a lot of how to videos out there but the Prof always finds a way to make the clearest, friendliest, and professional quality ones around. Thank you and great job!
Let’s gooooooo! Love this game, and love to see it getting more exposure
Gave it a try for the IP, but game is actually fun!
Thank you so much for such a detail to the games mechanics. I have been playing Universus for 10 years and I haven't seen a video that explains it as well as this. Thank you for the exposure.
Glad to see you cover this. Been playing since Street Fighter vs Darkstalkers back in 2018 (though I've been getting precons since the the first Jasco Darkstalkers set) and its been a ton of fun.
I absolutely love this game been plying since mk but mha has alot of inprovements to it
Delighted to see the prof mentioning this game. I've been trying to get people into Universus since Mortal Kombat and this video explains the game fairly well
Wow! Glad to see some My Hero content from the Professor. The game is absolutely wonderful!
Huge surprise! I love this system and would love for the game to see more success. Thanks for the great vid Prof!
The professor didn't mention this but not only are pack relatively cheap compared to mtg. My Hero Academia also has a loyalty rewards program! You can send in opened pack wrappers to get loyalty points as well as you get loyalty points for playing in events and these points can be used to redeem promo cards!!!
As someone who has been playing this game since it was called "UFS", it's awesome to see a channel like yours put a spotlight on the game! Thank you so much for all you do!
Thank you for this awesome video! ❤
Gotta love the time and dedication going into learning, and then teaching, so many other fun collectable card games, displayed by the professor! Looking into Universus, there are some really cool IPs!
I can only imagine the day a video drops where the prof tries to explain Yu-Gi-Oh! in 90 minutes or less lol.
He might try to start, then throw his hands up and bring in Team APS to do it for him.
Love this game. Super excited for the next set. Thank you for making such a great tutorial!!
I'm so glad you're covering this game. I love to jam some games with friends. Very fun
What a great video idea! I love the show/manga but never played it before. Now I’m quite tempted to pick up some cards, even just for the artwork. I’d love to see the Professor try to learn Yugioh as a side series!
Such an amazing video to watch! Thank you for the how to play! I have a couple locals that saw this and reached out asking when our local nights are and wanting to give the game a shot!
I’m so happy you finally covered this ty so much!!! I love this game and was hoping you’d bring some much needed exposure to it! Excited to watch the vid and hope you enjoy it and maybe that I’ll see you at an event!
This game is super good! Universes has been around for a long time and has seemed to hold a pretty consistent player base throughout.
For anyone who's hesitant to get into a new card game I highly recommend joining the discord and finding the tts channel, there are directions there on how to play the game for free on tabletop simulator!
Wow. I had no idea this made a come back. I played many many years ago when it was called UFS and it was Capcom vs SNK, with a few other fighting games joining the mix over time. I loved that game, and I'm incredibly excited to see it return with new life! Thank you so much, Professor, for bringing this to my attention!
Was in the same boat as you, haven’t played for a while (since Sabertooth owned the game) and jumped in a few months ago. It’s going through some initial growing pains with limited card pool, but the game is fun enough and the issues should subside over time.
It never died. Jasco took over about 13 years ago and have been keeping it going but it's getting new life with the MHA ip
@@CrazyAuron1 I managed an LGS when UFS first came out and I remember getting a call from a guy who worked at the UFS headquarters asking about selling the game at my shop. I immediately jumped and pushed the owner into agreeing to carrying the cards. I ran local tournaments, traveled to other shops around my state and other states running demos of the game. It was the first and only ccg I ever took seriously as an active player and supporter. (I only play magic casually). Long story short, I absolutely adored the game, but then it just sort of died in my area. Shops stopped carrying the cards, my boss closed down his shop, and things just ended. I had heard rumors that it was still going strong in Canada though. I'm just really happy to see it getting a resurgence, with a new name to as well.
@@Mirioman thank you for the insight. My perspective was clearly incorrect, as I saw it die a slow death in my local area. I appreciate you bringing new facts to me and educating me.
Huh, it's the UFS system. Thats cool to seeing having returned. Also excellent explaning video!
Thanks for the incredibly awesome video!!
Glad to see you covering this game.
I really like how you could play either of these decks against Sub Zero from MK, Chun-Li from Street Fighter or even Terry Bogard from KOF- if you had the decks of course… they are all very affordable unlike some of the other games we play.
Thank you for doing this video Prof!
Was gifted this game for my birthday, I can’t wait to play it with my brother, thank you!
While I enjoy your mtg videos the most, I do appreciate and like the fact that you do videos like this for other tcg's. Thank you!
Yes, this is much needed!! Love the game system as a whole
Hi prof! Coming back to this vid beause i just got into the game and hope that at some point we can see some more videos from you on it! Its been a blast!
I am thoroughly impressed that you are covering this great game. Thank you so much professor.
Omg i waited so long for this vidéo from you!
@TolarianCommunityCollege , i thinh someone is trying to scam people with your name
I haven’t really played this game since it was originally called UFS. I hope this grows the community, and maybe I can jump back into the game!!
My daughter and I just started playing this game and it is really fun. Thanks for the video it helped my understanding of some of the rules.
Fantastic tutorial, so easy to parse!! Thank you!
Super happy to see you covering this.
I already know how to play but want to get those views up.
Thank you for this, I don’t usually play card games and was having trouble understanding the instruction manual online
Played this in set one and was impressed
I remember when this game started with the penny arcade 2 player precon, and loved playing all the snk & darkstalker characters. Glad to see it is still going
Oh man, I would love to see you do an episode on evaluating the old UVS cards, its fun to see other people try to evaluate different CCGs
Really nice video man. Hope you find time to keep up with the game and I hope you enjoy it!
Best gameplay and strategy of any CCG I've ever played
The only thing that COULD have made this tutorial vid better would have been something like "Three rounds of play" or something similiar, so the mechanics explain could be seen strung together in action.
I am so glad you did a video on this and maybe you're getting into the card game I know I'm slowly getting into it.. I love the show a lot actually bakugo is my favorite..
Plus Ultra! (Glad you made the refference 😁)
Amazing video ✊🏽😎
Finally!!! I've been so upset that not many people have heard about this! Hopefully it pick up soon
I played UFS soooo much !!! Thanks professor to help to keep this great game alive :D
Tbh I love the MHA ccg it's so much fun to play
Great video even after reading the rules myself there was a few I missed or forgot about
Loved this content! Would love to see a review/learn to play for the Final Fantasy TCG!
This has been a lot of help tysm
Crossover episode 👀 thanks for covering the game!
Bro I can't help but get chills every time I hear that intro even when professor is reading it.
Out of all the videos (30 mins+) this has been the most informative one yet. You mentioned things that others didn't. When it comes to the 3 symbols, I thought you had to choose one of them for a deck. For example, you would have to create a life deck. You're one of those very rare college professors that explains things in a way that anyone can understand and ace the upcoming test. Stay cool professor. 🤘😎
This is still confusing to me. Do you have to choose one and only one symbol, and then all other cards must have that OR can you use all cards that have 1 or more matching symbols from the character??
@@andersolsen8104 as long as the card has one of the symbols on the character card then it can be used.
dang alright, then i have been doing wrong lol. Thanks!
@@andersolsen8104 I was too, lol.
Hey Professor I am the California Ambassador for the MHACCG thank you for posting this video, we really appreciate it! you did great!
Never played this before. I play mtg Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh. Seen the new set and decided I want to play but it looked pretty confusing. This video really cleared it up for me. Thanks so much
You covered my favorite game let's gooooo
I've only heard of my hero academia from my sister and I play MTG and I think I'm going to figure out how to make optimal decks for this game and make her a deck
Hi Professor! So happy to see you do a video of my favorite card game! I had a clarification question on the rules: Have the mulligan rules for player 1 changed? Previously, player 1 could mulligan twice instead of once. There's no official ruling on that yet so just wanted to see if this was stated as response to insider info towards a future rule change hahaha. Thank you and love the content!
Huge Fan of the show and the game!
I didn't know that I needed the profesor to narrate MHA. I love it
I like these tutorials for other game systems. If you can, please look into doing one for the Final Fantasy TCG. It is a wonderful game that deserves more attention.
This is incredibly poggers, thanks for showing off this awesome game to more people!
I just played this for the first time the other day at my lgs. There's only 4 ppl who play it there so there aren't any tournaments unfortunately but it was pretty fun to get introduced.
Wow, easily the best tutorial out there. Bar NONE.
this was an explained video but ive never seen a more complicated tcg. like holy crap
Yooo I love my hero. This game looks sick
the check system seems really neat, especially alongside the progressive difficulty and commit systems. it always feels so disappointing when you're just 1 shy of doing what you want in games in general, so I feel that a way to bump your numbers and hit the check gives players more agency, which is typically good. I hadn't heard about UniVersus before but I am definitely intrigued.
The check system is a cool way to balance cards. Essentially really overpowered cards can be given low check values so that if you want to run those OP cards, you have to either:
- Run a bunch of low difficulty cards to compensate for when you check that OP card, making your overall deck less punchy
- Or just play recklessly with an OP deck and accept that the RNG gods will force you to skip turns every now and then (the High Roller method)
One thing the professor didn't mention is that if you fail a check and you don't pay or can't pay for the check then your turn ends which means you have to manage resources as you also need foundations and cards to defend yourself with so typically most decks attack 2-3 times
Love it one of my favorite mtg creators and my favorite game
Anime? Card game? I'm in.
“I AM HERE!” This is a neat surprise, had no idea there was a game like this, lots of potential! All Might is the urza of this ip, if you haven’t check out his fights at the very least:3
Thanks bro imma get in to it
excellent video
So, a box opening perhaps at some point? Maybe an attempt at some deck construction and play against another person?
I love your videos, and love seeing you in commander games and such. Hopefully you do more with this, but I know you are primarily a Magic the Gathering channel.
Hey Prof! Love seeing these videos exploring other card games!!! Have you considered making a video on the Dragon Ball Super card game?
I miss Universal Fighting System being only fighting games, but I'm happy to still see the game existing.
Prof..... i need to send you some vangaurd and weiss schwarz decks. You teach how to play games so well!
This is awesome
Hearing prof say the intro the BNHA series was not something i saw coming today
