Practice makes perfect! My playing has some progress to make been playing since March 2020. Long bow scales 3 octaves, is helpling me and I am using the Carl Flesch book for this and I appreciate the importance of scales .
I’m using the Rubank First Etude Album for violin to become disciplined with basic bowings with multiple note slurs, string crossings, up to 3 # or b, and basic even and odd rhythms, dynamics, tempos, and it’s working !! Takes daily practice and discipline, both hands, posture, and hand and arm positions and violin position on body...don’t get frustrated, always play relaxed !! Warm up bowing arm, then add fretting hand.
I use this video (the contents: exercises, tips..) pretty much everyday, during practice. It has been so helpful for improving my bowing, which is not there yet but significantly better..cheers..Francisco
I hope my bow speed is becoming more consistent so I can develop those beautiful smooth transitions! Also interesting thinking about the different weight of playing on different strings, something I had noticed but hadn't really thought much about.

Wonderful video. Lots of good tips! I am wondering about something: if you play on contactpoint one or 5, how do you stay on that same contactpoint? What I notice is that after two strokes, I am back in the middle, contactpoint 3. Do you change the contactpoint-position from the shoulder? At least, that is what helps me from slipping back to normal within two beats....I hope I am clear: I mean, if you play at contactpoint 1 or 5 the whole position of your right hand is different.
Excellent!! You are wonderful and I have learned a LOT!! from this video!! I have a lot of your videos, but this one I think is the best!! I am now experimenting on chinrests to no avail! I went back to my Guarneri. I have not found a suitable shoulder rest I tried 3 different ones, including the one you recommend, but all of them the violin slants too much on a downward angle, if I adjust the shoulder rest to sit on my shoulder properly and also to rest on my chest. On the chinrest, I am not sure that I attached it correctly. Is the chinrest to be attached flush on the violin, or is it a little in front of the lip of the violin, not on top of the lip. I have attached it flush to the violin. Am I correct or maybe U have a video on how to attach a chin rest?? If U do, please let me know. As I am playing without a shoulder rest, I have to use my left arm to help balance and hold the violin. When I play that way , it seems OK. But, if I drop my left arm, the violin will not sty in position, it drops a little and i have to press my chin down to hold the violin, it only drops a little. Any advice?? I know I am asking a lot, I wish you were in USA where I live as I would like to learn from you in person after this virus is obliterated. Thank you again very , very much.
