OK, wow. This review is simply amazing. Thank you. I know last year when I was researching webcams, it took a lot of digging around to find useful information. I did not have any problem toggling the HDR in the Logitech Brio. I used the Logitech camera settings app on my Mac and it does make a difference. My office is setup with a back-lit situation, and I can't really move the desk around. But, of course, the best answer there is to simply get a light. The Lumecube panel kicks out enough to compensate and give a great picture.
Right on, next time I am able to, I'll test using the Brio HDR in the same lighting environment as the Kiyo Pro was (back lit) to check out the results. Thanks for watching!
This is the best explanation of the differences in webcams I've come across. I just bought a Brio and I feel like I can get the best quality from it thanks to your excellent information. Thanks.
man you're doing such a good job! all the info, all the relevant comparisons, and an excellent structure in your reviews. by far the best webcam reviewer.
Watching Webcam comparisons for the last 3 hours. By far (!) the most analytic and professional comparison I came across! And that OBS information might even just have saved me the money to upgrade my old Logitech C920 since it looks way better in OBS than it ever did before with Linux and it might be just good enough actually. THANKS!
That was awesome, incredibly comprehensive and helpful, thank you! Perfect review and comparison, really well thought through and presented; an absolute masterclass.
This is what’s called a comprehensive articulate and engaging video. Waaaay too many UA-cam videos are by people who think, “I have a Camera and You Tube, therefor I’m a reviewer, or analysts or SME..... Please don’t do too many more of these- I can’t take too much high quality work! Laughs- Cheers. Thank You
This review put to shame all other ones I have watched from all known big web portals. Fantastic job! Thanks for putting so much effort and details in your review.
I don't want to be too technical, however, the main difference between YUY2 and MJPEG is the chroma subsampling, YUY2 uses 4:2:2 pixel format (less color compression) and MJPEG uses 4:2:0 (more color compression), the more compression you have, the less detail you might get, your images might look too soft, etc; this is why you see tese differences. The best is when you have 4:4:4 (no compression), this is the equivalent to RAW in photos. Thanks for the video.
BRO!!! I've been researching webcams for a while now and youtube is full of rubbish reviewers EXCEPT FOR YOU!... Your reviews answer nearly ALL the questions one needs to make a decision. Even if you don't answer it upfront, the video and audio stream from the webcams answers it for you. Most other reviewers just straight up show webcam video/audio for like 10seconds and think their work is done. They show a 4k "30"fps choppy video running like 10FPS and NEVER MENTION THE ISSUE. I can't believe it took me so long to find you on youtube... Subsrcibed, i'm not letting you go now! :D Thank you.
thank you, a really worthwhile review and comparison, not like some bloggers just read the characteristics from the site and talk about the external design
While I may not agree with all of your judgements and conclusions (like the opinion on sharpness), you do provide an excellent comparison material for making one's own opinion - and that is a thing most welcome. You are also the first channel reviewing Kiyo Pro that I have seen that dared to go deeper into the flaws of the HDR mode - I had zero idea such motionblurry artifacting could take place, and I had watched... around 5+ reviews of that device prior to watching this video.
Right on. My main goal is to function as more of a resource and demonstrate the products rather than push one or the other (though I do I have strong opinions on them all). I'd like people to be able to make a decision even if they mute the entire video.
this is an incredibly awesome evaluation - thanks for creating this content and staying current... seriously appreciate the way you chose to do this eval... nice work Sir...
@@BadIntentStreamTechReviews now if only I could choose between the kiyo pro and brio... I dislike the color of the wall behind you in both the logitech cameras - to me (imo) the best color was consistently with the kiyo pro... I didn't notice the orange coloring on any of my monitors watching your video but I did notice this reddish / maroonish tint in the logitech cameras that seemed very prominent... I did think the brio handled lighting better in a lot of cases... Gotta pull the trigger today - ughhh.... Leaning towards the kiyo pro at the moment... Tell me I'm wrong and why! Please! Lol
@@iam2loki4u Yep, the Logitech cameras definitely have extra red. Since colors are out of the way, I'd say it's down to whether you want 4K or are ok with 1080p. 4K, Brio. 1080p, Kiyo Pro.
Damn. Fantastic review and the best I've seen comparing these webcams. Thanks for this! I finally know which webcam would work best for me instead of having to guess! The different lighting situations were particularly useful since I use Zoom in all sorts of variable lighting, and accurate color is SUPER important. Kiyo Pro for me!
dude this is such a well done review. I've got a job interview coming up next week for remote work and this is exactly what I needed to choose my webcam.
@@ensi1645 bought the kiyo pro on amazon (used) for $54. 1 year later still going strong. using a dedicated mic so can't speak to audio quality. software is a bit annoying but the video quality is great and it works well in a variety of lighting conditions.
Thank you. I purchase these for my corporate charges. I was placing an order today (the old Kiyo's I got years ago are starting to break from high use) and needed some reference. I decided to go with the Kiyo Pro because these people are not tech gurus , but need to "look good" when talking to clients without all the setting adjusting.
Great review and thanks for you thoughts! Really amazing comparison of all the main webcams. I'm probably going Kiyo Pro, but that's mostly because it's on sale right now for $100. The Brio is still at $150, and I think the price / performance on the Kiyo pro can't be beat. And I already have a regular Kiyo so I'm already dealing with Razer Synapse software! Thanks so much for the detailed and comprehensive review!
thanks man ! appreciate how far into it you went with the comparison ! have decided to go with the Kiyo Pro myself , i have a lighting set up and i use my own mic , so the downsides i can make up for
I've been looking for a video just like this, a wide-range of different webcams so that you have more of a choice. Thanks for the review man, and keep up the good work!
Great comparison! Just picked up the Kio Pro for $80 after tax on Prime Day. Although the Brio seems to check the most of your boxes, I'd consider the Kiyo Pro a win if it's almost half the price. (Plus I think I like the skin tones more on the Kiyo Pro.)
I picked up a Brio the other day and similarly noticed that HDR doesn't seem to do anything, but have since discovered that all it is doing is toggling the "Backlight compensation" setting on and off (aka 0 for off, 1 for on). It's really not HDR at all, just seems to darken the whole image a little bit if it determines you are backlit (or it does nothing if you're not).
Very interesting review stretching them to the limits, and trying to extract the best they can do. But try making a better lighting on your scenario like a backlight, warm adjustments, left/right light with different intensity and you`ll see that they look pretty sharp and won't differ that much. ✌
Thanks for doing the reviews. Given what I've seen from various other reviews on the Kiyo Pro, I think that's the direction I'm going to go for my situation. I won't really be doing traditional streaming being close to the camera, but rather we'll be doing whole room virtual performances in my basement rehearsal/production space. It's a 16x20 room (320 sqft) with the main room lights being 3 pendants over the bar, and 2 4-bulb track lights over on the opposite side wall. For performances (once it's safe for the whole band to get together and rehearse again). The main lights are on dimmers, so for performances, I'd be turning those down, or possibly off, and engaging the stage wash light (An ADJ UB 9H light mounted on the front wall over the studio desk that illuminates the floor and back wall). I also have a couple LED blacklight bars mounted to the steel support beam in the room. So, mood lighting. There are also some GOVEE LED strips on the bottom of the bar countertops for underlighting effects. The LED Strips and the stage wash light are all sound reactive. Anyway, I'm leaning toward the Kiyo Pro, but I can hold off a couple months and see if anything better comes out. Otherwise, my other option is to probably bite the bullet and get a DSLR or mirrorless for around $500 or so, using something like Canon's EOS webcam utility. It's an option, but just not sure I want to spend that kinda money yet. The plan is to have a main camera mounted to the monitor, or near the monitor to see most of the room, and use something like my iPhone with droidcamx as a second angle, or pointed at the singer, and alternate between the two scenes in OBS. If you're curious, here's a pretty decent shot of the room, main lights on using my iPhone SE (not the newer one). imgur.com/dAPrwwJ and in low/mood lighting with the main lights dimmed: imgur.com/r8CWUGp and imgur.com/Q9sY34Q (bonus I stuck a Christmas kaleidoscope light up for fun just temporarily). Anyway, I'm still researching what will best meet my needs for my somewhat niche scenario.
Took a look at all the pictures, nice setup! The Kiyo Pro's sensor makes it a good choice because of all the different lights, though I do I think the Brio will be beneficial here for a couple reasons: -With multiple people in the shot, especially since the camera won't be super close, the 4K is really going to help out. Even if you have to end up streaming in 1080p, setting the Brio to 4K in OBS will make it look a lot sharper than the Kiyo Pro can get. -Touching off that last part, the 90 degree field of view will be really helpful. You can get technically wider on the Kiyo Pro but that fisheye isn't ideal (imo). I think both the Brio and Kiyo Pro will be able to deal with the lighting you described - they have pretty good sensors for webcams. I'd definitely experiment with tweaking the manual settings since the auto-exposure is going to be finicky. Hopefully this helps.
@@BadIntentStreamTechReviews Thanks for the quick response. Yeah, I'll take the Brio into consideration as well. I think I did remember some reviews mentioned that it handles low light conditions pretty decently. I do agree that streaming at 4K and letting OBS downscale to 1080p is desirable. There's a similar concept in audio production where you always record at the highest bit depth and quality that you can (e.g. 88.2 or 96 KHz, 24-bit, or at the very least, 48KHz 24 bit) and then when it comes to printing the final mix for release on media, the audio gets dithered down to the quality and format that the media supports. (44.1KHz, 16-bit for CD, or 96 or 192 KHz, 24-bit for DVD or Blu-Ray). The idea is that you preserve as much audio information as you can during the recording/tracking process so that you have lots of headroom to work with during the editing and mixing sessions. (of course, proper gain stage and not setting the mics too hot helps a lot with headroom too) So yeah, makes sense to me. I absolutely would not use the Kiyo Pro at the widest angle. The barrel distortion at the frame edges is pretty undesirable unless you're going for a specific effect or you have a good reason to go with the fisheye look. One concern is that the stage wash light can be a little harsh depending on where you're standing since it's 9 LED lights. But it is dimmable as well, so I can probably get a decent look out of it. And I can always adjust the manual settings on the webcam itself, so I should be able to dial in something decent looking. Glad you liked the pictures. Setting up a good room like this for a home studio and being able to rehearse and do some semi-pro to professional quality tracking has been a dream for a good number of years. So yeah, looking forward to putting it to use!
