- A bit of fun. I've been watching a great channel, by The Missenden Flyer, and he did a series of videos of the top 10 things he hates about his bikes, so I thought I'd do one about the VFR!
Thanks to TMF for giving permission to steal his idea! ;-)
Check out The Missenden Flyer here;

I had the 750,plenty not to like
1.total waste of breakdown cover.
2.bars 2mm to low
3.seat to narrow,needed another 1mm
4.not enough room for your mates spares under the seat.
5.rubbish at cutting grass
6.took an age to heat a pasty
7.wouldn,t sleep two
8.the engine noise would often wake you up
9.had to wear a helmet
10. And worst thing of all,my mum liked it!
+ooasdxtcoo haha brilliant!
3:24 Thank me later
haha.. I was looking for this.
Thanks!

great vid's rich, been meaning to ask... whats the case/holder you have for your iphone, i need something similar for my phone
+Ian Richardson hi Ian. It's made by Tigra. iPhone 6 mount. 100% waterproof (tried and tested) won't let you down.
I had 2006... *I hated the chain* ...lubing it...adjusting it...cleaning it. I did like the center stand and single swing arm...But, If it had a shaft drive...It would've been perfect....Until...I rode a Blackbird....Liter bikes...There are no substitutes.
pmsl. i was thinking nooooooooooooooooo at 1st thinking how can he.....got me pal..very funny...
haha just as you are about to embark on a 6000 mile adventure of a lifetime on one! haha
literally me, cant fault my vfr800 at all
Class Richi pure class mate bravo bravo
+Stephen Lightfoot haha :-)
What a cracking idea for a video!! ....and you're quite right, we don't tend to buy bikes we hate do we, still made me smile this one and gutted I didn't do the same treatment for my Street Triple (which was extremely difficult to even come up with niggles for!). Massive thanks for the credit on the video....stay tuned to my channel as I have a little something in mind for you in one of my future productions..... ;0)
Haha hey, all credit to you, Sir! I personally didn't think it was funny enough, but seems to have gone down well! haha. Great stuff! Will keep my eyes peeled ;-)
Brilliant you two!
Kind regards
You got me... I thought, the way he goes on and on about that VFR I'm very interested to hear what he hates about it, and then you go and snooker me! Damn it, man! I fell for it.
hahah funny video :)
+HEROrr it fair tickled me! ;-)
The lack of gear-driven cams! :-)
VTEC is what makes it fun and different ;)
Nope worked on gear driven cams like 8-9 times and my life and I’m never doing it again🤣🤣
I m a 5th gen vfr all day for the gear driven cams love all vfrs tho
Been wanting a VFR for a while, your videos are convincing me to pull the trigger and get one 👍🏻
I consider a bandit 600 as my first bike, but the VFR serves for some headaches this last weeks. What a great product!
Richy, I agree with your list! Here's my number 10...I get angry with all those riders who are constantly telling me (correctly) that it is the finest sport touring bike ever made! :>)
Brilliant richy 😀😀👍👍
Made me proper laugh out loud 😂
+roger wood nice to share a bit of sunshine in a morning! ;-)
Must say, I was a bit confused at first but now it's rather funny after the 3.5 minute mark 🤣
K, I just obtained a VFR, mostly based on this video. After 1000 K's in, I'm glad I watched and bought a VFR! Thanks . . .
+Walter Wilkins glad you like it!
1000k's? Wow that's a million kilometers. .
A few things;
I like to stand up and ride occasionally. That’s pretty hard to do for any extended period on the VFR.
Almost zero underseat storage.
And there are not many options to fit a throttle lock/ cruise control.
Hitting the VTEC whilst on the back wheel or cornering is sometimes very unnerving.
My particular fuel gauge is not at all accurate. But that is maybe only my bike. 😂
Other than that. It’s perfect. 😉
10 things wright with the vfr just so perfect whats not to like about them god made these bikes .
This never gets old lol.
I know one, slow rpm speed in a 30km/h zone, that is horrible. But other then that, it still beats modern bikes in comfort, speed, power and mostly everything else.
It's 115HP is more then enough to keep up with all other bikes. Going from 100 to 250KM/h is so fast, it's no problem to keep up.
I know as I used to have a VFR1200F with a racing ECU, the VFR800 had no problem to stick in my mirror.
Honda are idiots for not producing this bike anymore thanks to the stupid EU-rulings on CO2, that turned out to be lies in total.
I will not ever sell my VFR800Fi's, ride them until they crack, there isn't any better bike on the planet.
The VFR800 does it all, great speed, great touring bike, great racer....what more do you want or need? And before I forget, they never let you down, they simply don't fall apart.
100% agree. The Viffer was the best bike I've ever owned.
Cheers. Yes, 'tis true! What are you riding now, mate?
Working on a 75' KZ400 scrambler/tracker/café thing... lol.
Same here. My son has got one now and taunts me with it, I'm seriously thinking about trading in the bike I replaced it with just because my old bones found it easier to wheel about the garage. Best rapid tourer I ever had. Probably the best bike full stop. One of the first pre-vtecs dec 97.Loved it, had it for years.
Miss my 87 VFR 700 F2.(Candy blue and Silver) Great bike.
P.S. My 87 had approx 185 K on the odometer before it broke ( stuck valve). Still have it though.
Those are the exact same things i hate about my vfr.
Must be a manufacure problem :))
Well thought out 10 things you hate about the VFR...very informative list ;) .... haha had a good laugh
there is ONLY ONE THING i hate in VFR800VTEC - weight. could be some 50kg less :) this is amazing bike... I got mine since 10 years allready...
🤣🤣🤣
" Number 10 ? ... number 10 ?... "
Lol I was wondering, like what's this guy gonna say, it goes too fast? Too good looking? Great stuff
I must be a thickie, it took.me a minute or two to twig what was going on. nice editing too. Enjoyed.
Very good mate. The love affair is strong!!
I have a 800FI, last year b4 variable timing, great bike, fuel injected, gear driven cams, sounds unique, goes well, won’t sell it, to fond of it. Love my R1200gs but the VFR is unique
I have a 2005 VFR800 and I love it. The only complaint I have is it does tend to run a little hot when caught in slow traffic here in California.
After 3 days of owning a VFR 800 V-tec I can confirm you are right,- There is nothing I hate with my VFR.... BUT,- I can make a long long long long long long long long long long list of what I love about my VFR...:-)" Keep up the good work:-)...
YES! ;-)
Hahahaha Good one !
Brilliant! :))))
Very clever! Love it. 👍🏍
Two days from now,- I am going to try and may be bay a VFR 800! I'm looking forward to that:-)! Thank you for giving some good vibes into this channel..:-)!!
Haha brilliant 😆👍👍
lol, and I thought "oh, this will be handy for when I think about buying one!"
How about 10: Honda Dealers ?
hahahah! BINGO! ;-)
You should bought an rc36 with cam gear drive and carbs or a 1998 vfr800 fuel injected still with the gear drive. When Honda took switched the gear drive for a chain they took out a whole lot of charisma. Test ride an older one to see what I mean. Keep the rubber down mate...peace
Brilliant, lol.
Damn!!! CLICKBAIT!!!!! Didn't help me in the slightest with deciding to buy mine.....LOL!!!! Good one!!! Some gorgeous shots though!
Well, that is the ‘pre-adjusted ‘ VTEC model, which can be dodgy if you are in a certain rev range when taking a lean through a corner - then it ‘snaps ‘ at you at 7K as you accelerate out.
Thats why it lowered the VFR tone. The 2014 model irons that issue out (mostly) and is much better…. 😊
Watching TMF brought me to your channel a few months ago. You two(and a few other Brits) have cost me many hours this winter. Great video great channel!
Peace!
I just bought one recently (2010 model)and after owning a VF 500 and 750 many years ago I must say that it is an absolutely fantastic bike and light years away from those models. Looking forward to touring Scotland this May on it. Can't wait.
I have a 08'VFR800 abs.2nd. Owner 13k.miles.I love it .silver is ok,but Iam going with red/white and blue body.
Back in the day I had a VFR 750 fv, 1996 I think. It was a fabulous bike but I only had it for 6 weeks before it was nicked. As soon as I was paid out I bought a Firestorm as an interim bike until the VFR800 was released. Bought one immediately but what a pile of poo - in my opinion - it was !!
Then Honda released the VFR vtec; FABULOUS MACHINE in all respects. By then I was into GS's so never owned one, but a GREAT, GREAT bike.
I don't have a VFR (I'm thinking of getting one) but here's two things that I've heard of - the side radiators of the gen 6 vfr can cause your legs to get hot - they can be very expensive to work on (that's all I've got ;)
Rubbish. To both. 👍
Another great video... as usual.
And Richy, today, do not leave us you too... ok? Cheers from Portugal
I Motovlogg of an '06 VFR800.....I was wondering what your ten would be :-)....Super funny man...super funny. Dazzle rebel rides recommended your channel.
haha Hey, I tried! ;-) That's very good of him. Thanks guys. ;-)
adjusting the chain, cleaning the chain, replacing the f##kin chain. There's 3 for you. Past that it's......
+andy coomber haha yeah I agree. Cleaning the chain (on any bike) is a thankless task!
Linked brakes. Lack of storage under seat. Lumpy down low. Little top heavy. Under seat pipes get flipping hot in traffic. I had a 56 plate couldn't gel with it. Now have a vfr800f 2015 cured most of above. But gained stupid self cancling indicators. A basic traction control. But vfrs are lovey I have had 3 of them.
1. Weak stator 2. no cruise control 3. No quick shifter 4. Short on power for its class 6. Front turn signals resemble lopped off elephant tusks 7. Seat won't recline. 8. No forward pegs and controls 9. No LED accent lighting 10. Falls far short of 200MPH.
I started riding my '98 again after I replaced the reg/rec, stator, and harness. In the meantime was a Ducati Multistrada 1200s. And I'm so happy to be back on the VFR that I don't ride the Multi any more. The Multi might have bigger on-paper numbers, electronic suspension, ride by wire stuff but it's no match *at all* for the VFR, even though its engine is a full 1/3 bigger. Nowhere near the flexibility, woosh feeling, sound. Plus the Multi feels twice as heavy, and has nowhere near the same telepathic throttle/brake, feeling of grip, or perfect gearchange. And even though it's got more power, massively more torque, it's just not as usable. It's either too quick, or just too cantankerously irritating in the fuelling to ride at anything other than full throttle. The VFR is as beautifully relaxing at 10% pace as it is at 80%.
What a great comment! Lovely to hear. 👍👍
Haha, nice one, just picked up a 2004 one last week, so far only thing i don't like is the screen too low and position hurts my wrists because im old, cruise control would be nice, always loved them and happy to have one to play with ;)
Fine I'll do it
10. The hideous smashed-crab styling
9. The bullshit dual braking crap
8. The styling
7. The VTEC nonsense
6. The styling
5. The mediocre performance
4. The servicing/valve adjustment
3. The vomit-inducing styling
2. The owners are about as interesting a bucket of sand
1. Did I mention the disgusting styling?
haha well done on the imagination. To re-iterate;
10. After 13 years in production, still a superb looking bike.
9. I love the dual braking. Makes me feel safe.
8. Great looking bike.
7. The VTEC is superb. You just need to learn how to use it.
6. 13 years without change...
5. I understand sportsbikes are way better in this dept. But we are here for touring, and enjoying the freedom...
4. *this sucks
3. Put it with a bunch of new (or newER) bikes... STILL looks amazing.
2. I have over 100 riders, soon coming on a riding weekend due to my LOVE of this bike. What about you?
1. STILL one of the BEST looking bikes out there.
Cheers for the inspiration ;-)
The styling is fucking spot on. I love the fucking styling of this bike.
This is coming from a guy that has a playlist of: drinkin songs yeah, Sex Songs for the modern bro and a liked video on how to shave your testicles....you should be the least person talking about styling here...bro....this bike has won countless awards...bro, if you have educated yourself a bit more your world perception might have been a bit more understanding of styling and performance.
Great video, tomorrow i will probably buy my first VFR 800, your video just convinced me that this is a right choice! :D
I got one for you! No. 10: Everybody rides a boring silver one!
And... that's about it...
I've got a Red one haha
Oh my god!!! Soooooo good!
But why did the video stop, just when you wanna start the count down??? :)
Great Video! Thanks for laugh!
Hahahaha GREAT job!!! Best regards from Germany ;-)
I had an extremely good tour of Ireland on my VFR800 around 10 years ago, topped off with a quick sprint down to Dartmouth in Devon and finally back home to Ipswich. The whole experience was marred when going passed Colchester on the A12 my chain decided to part company with the bike, taking a chunk of the crankcase with it. Fortunately it was just a stone’s throw from the Honda dealer where I bought it. Having said all that I still loved the bike.
Uhh.... maybe the tire air valve caps are black plastic? Couldn't tell. Great video.
Oooh! I got 1 problem with it it! I'm not riding it.
Hey Richy that's superb mate am stuck on 10 as well
Had a 2008 VFR. Easy number one: radiators on the side, and low side crash and one of them is toast. Should be in the front of the bike like every other decently designed sport bike.
Absolutely brilliant. I hate all those same things as well.
Maybe time to revisit this one Richy... given your current love for the AT!... maybe #10 is that the VFR is not an AT.... :D
The Missenden Flyer is a great channel, as is yours. Also could you watch and maybe comment on "Blackness Rides" as he is churning out some great content and deserves more subs than he has currently.
the only negative thing about the vfr is that it's a bit thirsty, but my gosh what a great ride. the sound,,, performance. all excellent. the only mod i will do is to raise the bars a little bit.
Lol I like the video. I’m guessing you love your bike 😊 I’ve not ridden for 12 years I’m 43 and thinking of getting a vfr800 I’m too old for leaning over tanks again (last bike was an r6) the vfr looks like a good bike......hmmmmmm 🤔
Subscribed so keep posting bro 😉
Nice work mate. I own a '04 VFR and because i'm 6 foot 3 I find it a little cramped.. But otherwise an awesome piece of machinery.
i bought a 15 vf havent got it yet ''waiting patiently'' but I hope I can share your love of this bike cheers mate mal from aus.
Good dose of comedy acting but making a valid point. I ride the 5th gen vfr800 and find it hard to fault. I actually prefer it to my two previous machines; a Yam FZ1n and a mk1 Triumph Street Triple. They were both excellent machines but lacked the versatility of the VFR (which is also a blast to ride when you're in the mood to take things up a notch).
I discovered The Missenden Flyer about a month ago and I completely agree with your comments; I've watched all his videos and his reviews are excellent; Just wish there were more of them........
Quality Richy I knew you wouldn't have any before it started lol👍
Haha i love it .
thank you man for this wanderful videws espacially norway it was epic not a journey subscriber from morocco
Sound of stock exhaust for sure.
oooh so this was a funny video... sweet mother
when you can't find anything wrong with something, I think that's called love! you've got me thinking as I don't feel so fondly about my biffer...
😂😂😂😂😂 Bravo!
For someone who is looking for this bike, this is the ultimate test!
just bought one on saturday, and thanks. this video made my day
Congratulations!
What a place to park and plug in your mic.
Forcing people to pass on the right , just before a corner.
Lol. I just bought 2004 vfr day ago and was very interested to listen to your list🤣
What a beautiful country road, I love it, but why you British drive on the wrong side of the road ?
Doesnt it make you feel like your riding on the wrong side? hah...its funny riding on that side.
there's love for you lol.
Before I watched the video, I was wondering how could someone say anything negative about a VFR 800! Glad to know we think alike.
number 10, I hate when I have to drive on a slightly dirty road
What a beautiful town you are riding through. I' hear you I have 4 VFR"S All 5th Gen. 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001. I hate the yellow color on my 2000...
the yellow one is stellar and the one to have!;)
There is a 2003, silver, 6000 miles, 1 owner for sale here in Florida, $4600
How about just 1 thing I hate... the looks. Don't get me wrong, if a gal is genuine, looks after your kids, is not bad on the eyes, and is not trying to kill ya, then she's a keeper. But, bikes... it's kinda, make-up looking good, but it's no toe-stubbing of a looker
Give over! It’s a beautiful looking bike! Even by todays standards! 😍😍
in my opinion the only downside of owning a viffer is that the parts of the bike are so damn expensive
LMAO, Right on Richy!!!
Lol, I thought you was trying to imply that the VFR was a perfect 10/10 bike. I'm sure I could prob find 10 niggles with my ZX6R starting off with its tappety cam tensioner, comfort, vibrations, mirrors, sitting position, suspension, e.t.c. But do you know what, I wouldn't change it for nought. Nice vids mate.
+Jarred Roe good man. That's the thing isn't it. Character! Cheers for watching
Here are the 10 things I hate about my 1999 Gen. 5 VFR.
10. It cost me £2300 and is in showroom condition with loads of extras. That's just not right.
9. It accelerates to 155mph but I'm a 'max. 120' kinda guy. What a waste.
8. When I go past some sexy chicas, they're ogling the bike and aren't interested in me.
7. It never allows me to work on it. It's just Very F**king Reliable.
6. When my wife asks me to go get some milk, I have to go 50 miles to get it even though there's a shop a mile up the road. I don't understand why it does that.
5. When I meet up with my mates they just want to talk about the VFR.
4. It's not very exciting. A few times the back wheel has stepped out but it always corrects itself. I'll never be able to get a good rest in hospital.
3. The seating position is so comfortable that I find myself getting sleepy. This is extremely dangerous.
2. It's too easy to clean. If I had a Harley I'd have hours and hours of fun cleaning and polishing it every week.
1. The thing I hate most about the VFR is that I might never want to buy another bike.
Bravo, Sir! Great comment! 🙌🙌🙌
Funny. I own a 2003 silver VFR 800ABS. I am selling it now as I purchased a mobile couch for this 49 year old. My new ride is a BMW R1200RT. It has all the bells and whistles lol. But the VFR is a very nice bike. And you can’t beat that V4 sound through the carbon fibre exhaust. Just can’t! 47000km on it and still going strong.
Still going strong at 47,000kms? She’s a pup! Mine is on 87,000 miles now ;-)
Cant find 10 but 6 are enough...
1)Electric Gremlins (...if you have the luck)
2) Heat coming from radiators (Mediterranean guy here)
3) Easily gets hot (more than other bikes, but not a real problem here)
4) Surging at low revs (PC + Mapping can fix this)
5) Locked ECU. (at -2006 models)
6) Kind of expensive service (VTEC valves especially)
For me all above plus it's top heavy which means it's more difficult to counter when you start leaning it while standing. Exactly what happened to Richy when he "leaned" it over from center stand.
I'm looking at changing from my old cbr600f2 to a vfr for touring
Those who are interested who's that youtuber, it's RoyalJordanian or RJ. He owns 2 classic Yamahas, Honda Grom, BMW S1000RRs, Husqvarna Nuda 900R. Husqvarna SMR511 and KTM 1290 Super Duke R. That 1200GS was just rental but it was hard for him to give it back
Every bike suits someone and brand snobery is embedded deep in many peoples minds. To you Rich you have a bike you love and cherish as i do with my Street Triple. I also love my BSB and TT and I do not care what brand wins as long as I have had great racing and the thrill of speed control and the sound of the motor. Good on you son and long may you make your vids.
Only thing i hate about the VFR is the pain in the arse to replace the number plate light
Ok, lemme help you out. You are supposed to hate the under tail exhaust. Not for its looks, cuz it looks good, but because it takes up room on the rear tail section, causes too much heat and may cut performance just a bit. You are also supposed to hate the V-tec. Its only there for emissions, and hurts performance under 6500 rpm. Also valve clearance checks are very difficult. Those are 3 of the most common, anyhow.
Love the under tail exhausts, really love the Vtec, and I’ve never touched my valves in over 80k miles! 👍
