Absolutely cracking discussion - James and Graham are legends, offering insight that's on another level.
Finding an installer who you can trust is difficult. As I have voiced before, I have been let down by those so called 'Consumer protection' bodies, such as HIES and MCS and have little faith in their value. (Though I accept the positive points Graham made about the MCS standards).
I know I may get shot down here, but I found that Octopus Energy have offered me the most reassuring quote for a Heat Pump installation. Having had my fingers burned by a local Company when having Solar PV - a company which had been established over a decade and allegedly had very good reviews on Trustpilot (transpired they had effectively paid customers to remove poor reviews), I personally needed reassurance of a large brand.
Octopus installed my EV charger 18 months ago and I found that the whole installation process was professional and efficient.
The Heat Pump process has similarly been a positive experience to date.
I noted the comments around hot water, which is often skimmed over. Those of us who have lived with a combi / instantaneous water heater for the last 40+ years often forget what it used to be like with an immersion heater.
My wife's only request when we started down the Heat Pump road was that we end up with a system that ensures she will have enough hot water to have a long shower and Octopus have been great in accommodating a larger water cylinder than they would normally fit for our house size. - (Our wedding day was over 35 years ago and the stand out memory of that day for my wife is nothing to do with the ceremony or reception, but how they ran out of hot water at home when she was getting ready!)
So the moral of the story is also ensure you understand your needs as a family in relation to your hot water usage and ensure the system you choose can meet this.
Love these discussions, massive thanks to the team and have a great Christmas.

Thanks for your feedback - you’re absolutely right about Graham and James. They consistently provide real, honest insights.
The point about OE is an interesting one. At the end of the day, you need an installer who delivers exactly what you need, and having the support of a well-established company with staying power can’t be overstated.
I completely understand your wife’s perspective, and it’s fantastic that she’ll get the HW cylinder that meets her expectations.

James is hands down one of the best in the business, genuinely cares for his customers and goes the extra mile to ensure they are happy and have a well designed working system, that the customer knows how to use.
