  • Officials in Meriden want to assure parents and students that the school environment is safe following a concerning incident where a handgun was brought into school.
City and school officials told FOX61 they rely partly on a strong relationship with Meriden Police, who only have 106 officers out of their full complement of 123. That’s led to some tough decisions. The short staffing has forced school resource officers to be plucked from their original duties.

This sounds like a typical case of a child showing off to friends. I don’t think the parents are to blame for lacking in gun safety. This is however a lack on the parents for not teaching their child proper gun safety. Or maybe this is on legislation. Can parents teach gun safety to their children or is the government so involved in the family unit that it’s just not possible. I believe this child should not be punished for being dumb. Unless of course harm was intended.

yes they can teach their child gun safety. A child (I believe from the age of 13+) can handle a gun under adult supervision.
